I was itching to go for a long run today. I haven’t been on one since the La Jolla Half Marathon. It felt so good to be outside. Running really is my therapy. I have a keychain that says “Running is cheaper than therapy.” Love it! and I really think anyone can be a runner. I didn’t always love running. I went years without running because my back hurt so bad. Then, when I tried to get back into it I would run for about 10 minutes before I would get the worst side aches and my knees would hurt, so I ended up walking. It’s definitely a process to get to the point where you look forward to running. Now, I LOVE it! I have my days when I really don’t want to do it, but I talk myself into it because I know that I feel so much better when I’m done.
Here’s a little look at my pre-run routine (if I’m running more than 10 miles). Here’s my standard snack.
Banana with a tablespoon of Naturally More. I made the mistake of adding a little too much peanut butter once before a race. NOT a good idea. That was a really long race. Ugh. I also have a little version of my favorite morning mocha to go with it.
Don’t mind the mess in the background.
After feeding the pets and getting something together for breakfast for the boys, I get my running stuff ready. Belt, water, IPOD, and cell phone- check.
Don’t worry, I make sure to leave a mocha for Andrew.
Cool mug huh? His mocha is a little different than mine-
Andrew’s Morning Mocha
- 1 tablespoon instant espresso (or another instant coffee)
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 1/2 cups 1% milk
- 1 hot cocoa packet
- teaspoon on cocoa powder
- teaspoon of sugar
Put the espresso, hot chocolate packet, sugar and cocoa in a mug. Heat up the water until it boils and add it to the mug. Stir really well to make sure there are no clumps. Heat up the milk, froth it and add it to the chocolate mix. Top with a little whipped cream. Mmm………
This is the version I make for others when they’re over- it’s always a hit!
This morning it was a 12 mile run, then time for us to take our cars in to get serviced so we decided to make a morning of it. Family breakfast?? Okay! Where can we walk to from here?
Ahhhh….. The Omelet House. This is where we tried to go on Mother’s Day and ended up at the bar. Today, there was no wait. Look how cute!
Not sure the whipped cream on the boys’ plate was a good idea.
Oh that hair is out of control.
I had an egg white omelet with artichoke hearts, mushrooms, spinach and tomatoes. It was delicious (and huge)!
They even gave me some salsa on the side and they had the yummy green Tabasco sauce.
Love having breakfast as a family. It doesn’t happen very often with our work schedules, etc. I made everyone take a picture of our special moment.
Happy Friday! Whoa, I think I used a few too many happy faces on this post. And… I forgot to get Andrew’s “okay” before posting pictures of him. Oops. Guess I tell him after a couple of beers tonight. ha!
