Did You Run…….

Did You Run…….

For National Running Day? I realize I post late at night and most of you read this the following day. (I’m working on that. In a perfect world I’d post in the morning and then again right before or after dinner. Maybe someday once I get the hang of all this.) Today was National Running Day, which means its only the BEST day ever to commit to start running (or walking). And just because I’m always late (yes, seriously, ALWAYS late for everything), I think we should make June 2nd STUFT Running Day. He he! Are you in?

I talked a little about my thoughts on running in my Perfect Friday Morning post last week, but I really can’t explain how it has helped me in so many ways. I couldn’t always run like I do now and I’ve come to really appreciate my body and the ability I have to run. I still get choked up at every race and always have an overwhelming feeling to thank GOD for the gift of running. What an amazing gift, right? I bet there’s so many people out there who would love to run, but physically can’t. I’m so lucky to be a runner and to have a husband and family that supports me and my passion for it, because God knows they have made many sacrifices along the way for me. Running has truly changed my life. Here are the top reasons why I run:

  1. It’s cheaper than therapy. (And God knows I have some ISSUES!) Smile
  2. It helps me clear my head.
  3. It makes me a better person (wife, mother, friend, etc.).
  4. It helps me appreciate the world around me.
  5. It feels amazing.
  6. I can eat A LOT! (And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE food.)
  7. Well, because I CAN!

If you’re not sure where to start, just get outside (or on the treadmill) and walk. When you feel ready, try to run for a little while. Mix it up a bit (run a couple of minutes and then walk a couple of minutes). You’ll burn roughly the same amount of calories if you walk 2 miles or run them at a moderate pace, so don’t be discouraged if you can’t run yet. If it’s something you really want to do, you’ll get there. Just do it- get on the treadmill while you watch your favorite show or make a playlist of your favorite songs and head outside.  I really think you might like (or LOVE) it.

Okay, enough run talk. Sorry for you non-runners out there. I didn’t mean to get so sidetracked with National Running Day. Maybe I’m just pumped up about STUFT Running Day tomorrow. Ha!

A quick look at my dinner last night. Broccoli slaw “spaghetti”, with some extra spinach in the sauce, topped with fat free feta and some garlic cheese sandwiches on the side.

I had a skinny cow sandwich AND a vitatop for dessert. Yum!

This morning….

For the National Running Day festivities I managed to have the boys wear their special shirts (and capes?).

He looks excited, doesn’t he?

We started the celebration by opening up the Teeccino I got from Jimbo’s last week.

I did half espresso and a tablespoon of the Teeccino in my coolio espresso pot. Then added a tablespoon of my favorite cocoa powder, a splenda packet, and some warmed and frothed unsweetened almond milk. Mmmm….

This Teeccino stuff was GO-OD. It smelled sooo yummy (chocolaty, fruity, sweet) when I opened the bag.  What a fabulous coffee alternative. I don’t think it’s going to last long here. ha!

We fueled up (for our short run) with some Peanut Butter Banana French Toast Bake for me and SunButter Banana French Toast for the boys.

Do you like that gob of Naturally More on top? Man, that was good stuff baked on top like that. I had some PB2 in the middle with the other half of the banana. It was VERY peanut buttery (and REALLY delicious).

This was for the boys. I always make theirs big so I can freeze half of it for mornings when we need a quick breakfast (or when Andrew has “Daddy duty”).

This is what the table looks like most mornings (At the beginning of breakfast at least. It’s a lot messier after about 10 minutes or so.).

We went for a run after breakfast (for the special day). Turk even got to join us.

About 1 1/2 miles into the run, Turk decided it was time to stop. He would NOT budge.

So we turned around. Thanks Turk. Oh well, I had to teach a spinning class tonight anyway. Back to the house for some smoothies for the boys. Today’s smoothies reminded me of the kitchen sink cookie recipe. I just kept adding stuff: spinach, strawberries, frozen broccoli cubes, frozen carrot cubes, strawberry yogurt, organic vanilla soymilk, apple juice, and some frozen banana chunks. Hmmm…..Perfect! Smile

Lunch was my normal Veggie Burger Ginger Wasabi Salad and dinner was BBQ Chicken Flatout pizza with zucchini. I’m just now realizing that I don’t have the pictures downloaded yet. I’ll have to show them off tomorrow. I DID eat this though for dessert.

Not a big fan. There was a lot of hype about this stuff a couple of months ago. Yes, they say 150 calories for the whole pint. I ate the whole thing (shocker). We’ll see how my stomach feels tomorrow. I think I can make a something similar that’s just as big and tastes WAY better (and cheaper). I won’t be buying this again. It doesn’t even come close to Golden Spoon or my STUFT Fro Yogurt. Sorry Artic Zero.

See you tomorrow!!!!! Smile

I can totally relate to those late night posts. About the only time I can fit them in these days too. 🙂

I’m so happy to hear that you enjoy running and are doing something like that for yourself. Every mama needs an outlet.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Arctic Zero either. I tried it once even though I’m not a huge fan of dairy. I just kept hearing so many good things about it. I thought it was bland and icy and am much happier with my own version. You thank God for running, and I thank Him for my Vita-Mix. 😉

Oh man… so jealous that you have a Vit-Mix. Someday…………………………………. And yeah, Artic Zero= zero interest. Wait, that’s not nice, let’s just say yes, it’s much better making our own version. What’s yours????? Thanks so much for your comments. I’ll be thinking of you tonight when I’m doing another late night post since my attempt to get one done now is over (Judah is crying in the next room). Oh, the life of a mom. 🙂

P.S. Your boys are precious. Oh my gosh – melting my heart in their capes. Love. 🙂

I agree about the arctic zero stuff. I wouldn’t even call it ice cream.. It was like cold air. I was so bloated and felt yucky for at least a day after eating that. It was worth a try for such few calories.

Sorry to link drop, but here is my version of Arctic Zero since you asked: http://heathereatsalmondbutter.com/recipes/protein-ice-cream/. It’s creamy like soft serve & not as icy – love it!
Don’t stay up too late. 😉
