Motivational Monday

I’m having trouble focusing today (Monday). I think that leftover pizza and STUFT Fro Yogurt at 10:30 last night is messing with my head. Thank goodness for Mondays sometimes, right? A fresh start, a look into the week ahead. It’s so weird because today is the last day of school for the kid’s around here. It would’ve been my last day of work before summer break if I was back working full-time. Such a weird thing. I’m not good with change. It takes me awhile to get into a groove whenever something in my life changes. Motherhood and a career change have definitely thrown me for a loop. I’m living my dream (being home with my boys, teaching fitness classes, and running my own business) and thank goodness for Andrew taking care of all of us, but it’s scary (and very unsettling) not being in a secure, steady job. Andrew tells me to take one day at a time, but I’m really not very good at that. Anyone else? Anyway…….

This morning I wanted to revisit my goal towards losing those 7 pesky pounds. I wrote about it on here a couple of weeks ago, and have been thinking about it off and on, but really haven’t put in the effort (and focus) that I need to. So today, it starts. I’m not one to count every calorie. I used to do that obsessively and it was NOT good. I mainly just want to focus on family, business, this blog, my Mission Impossible Organization (MO), and taking better care of myself. I’m going to keep track of what I eat and estimate my daily calories for a little while. I only estimate because it’s easier and more flexible. I can be accountable, but not obsessive about it.  It’s all about moderation (something I still struggle with and have to work on with certain foods). I know that if I start to count every single calorie and measure everything out, it takes away from enjoying food (and life). I like to play it safe, estimate and just make healthy choices, otherwise I get too tempted to have a free for all and eat anything I can (and then push off my calorie counting/recording to the next day). Check out my little cute book I have ready to go (it’s the same book I put my little weight loss graph in). And cute little stickers for motivation. (I am such a teacher nerd.)

Here’s the plan:

  • 1800-2000 calories a day
  • 1 dessert treat a night (less than 300 calories)
  • nothing is totally off-limits
  • no overeating
  • get at LEAST 7 hours of sleep
  • wine (Mike’s Light, etc.) and 1 bigger dessert treat on weekends only
  • focus on getting most of my calories earlier in the day (instead of a huge dinner at 10 at night)

Here are my motivational thoughts/mantras:

  • “The better the fuel, the better the performance.”
  • “Why choose to fail when you know you can succeed?”
  • “Nothing tastes as good as being healthy and happy feels.”

Here are some other goals:

  • inspire others
  • fit into those darn jeans
  • be the best person (wife, mother, friend, etc.) that you can be

I’m a little nervous that I just wrote all that on here. (I usually keep it to myself.) Oh well. Everyone’s along for the ride I guess.

On that note (you all being along for the ride)……… I realize I have a ton of PB2 that expires this month and I want to share the PB2 love. I know other people do giveaways, and I’m not totally sure how it works or what the rules are, but here’s my first attempt.

      Yes, green tea frap is soo soo good. It’s just as good iced too. I keep trying to recreate it at home, but just can’t get it right. One of these days. Hope you’re feeling well!!! Almost time………

    I’ve been dying to try the PB2 you keep talking about so I’ll take a chance! I am not a fan of coffee (never have been), but being a teacher I seem to accumulate a lot of Starbucks gift cards. My favorite is a toss up between Peppermint Hot Chocolate and Strawberry and Creme frozen drink none of that yucky coffee flavor. And my favorite 80’s movie is probably Ferris Bueller’s Day Off but in very close competition is Back To The Future and Adventures in Babysitting (all of which I pretty much had memorized at one point in my life).

    My all time Starbucks favorite is a nonfat gingerbread latte. I start craving them come September! My day-to-day favorite is a skinny vanilla latte but I’ve been totally satisfied with your mocha. Yummy! One of my favorite 80’s movies is St. Elmo’s Fire. Rob Lowe!     My fav. starbucks drink right now is a venti decaf iced americano with skim milk and a truck load of splenda and my favorite movie would be Pretty Woman or (I’m super embarassed to say this but…) Wayne’s World. I’ve been making the best PB2 chocolate oatmeal for breakfast every morning and I just ran out of PB2! Fingers crossed I win. Everything you write in your blog I feel everyday but you express in a much braver funnier way than I ever could. Your honesty is so comforting.

      Oh Sarah- you will forever be the first person who sent me SUCH a nice email when this started. 🙂 I wish you lived here. I know, PB2 is so great just added to oatmeal. Mmmm…… Wayne’s World??? Too funny. I don’t think I ever saw that one. And……. it’s MUCH easier to write my issues than talk about them. I almost don’t like going back and reading what I wrote. It scares me- like pressing the “send” button on an email and immediately regretting it. ha ha ha!

    My favorite Starbucks drink is a mocha/coconut frappuccino light..I know too much sugar, but oh sooo tasty!

    My all time fav 80’s movie has to be Valley Girl!!! Love that flic.

    Best Starbuck’s drinks are Grande Soy Latte or Grande soy no water chai latte and the best 80s movie is Christmas Vacation. Every time I watch it I catch something new that is hilarious.

    Yea! You go girl! I already KNOW you have the most amazing fit body ever..so YOu are my inspiration 🙂
    As for best starbucks drink..thats a tough one, there are so many..I love their seasonal drinks, like around christmas. Anything mint, but I guess my fav is their caramel apple cider. Weird? haha

      Seasonal drinks are the best and the cool seasonal cups make them even better! It’s soooooo fun working out with you at Strollerwise! Yay!!! I can’t wait for all the fun things we’re going to do over summer (yeah, I’m already planning on us doing a lot even though I’ve only known you a couple of weeks. ha!). You are awesome!!!!!

    I found out about you from your post on NCMoMs 🙂 Been following your blog ever since…looking for some motivation. My twins are 14 1/2 mos old…and they have an older bro who is 3 yrs. And I work full time…busy, busy. I wish your weekend bootcamp classes were closer (I’m in Encinitas)…still trying to find some workout time…I see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I think I need to pick up the pace from a slow walk to a healthy trot. ANYHOW…my fav starbucks drink is hands down a skinny caramel macchiato w/ extra foam…my friends all make fun of my order since it used to be a “grande, nonfat, sugar-free vanilla, extra foam, caramel macchiato”…but now I don’t have to say all that. And, I don’t get to starbucks very often anymore – working full time w/ 3 kids, etc – trying to make the coffee at home more (and not go to Nordies as much). I still haven’t bought the special dark chocolate (neither Ralphs nor Vons have it!), and I’ve looked at BedBathand beyond for the frother but need to go into the store so I can use my coupon…but I’m getting there (the TO DO list is TOO long!!) I also passed along your blog to a pregnant (w/ her first – singleton) friend and she told me she’s already tried a recipe. I made vanilla/almond Fro Yo last night…yummy & my husband liked it too! I want to try the choc/PB one next. Did you ask for a comment or a book? hhmmm. Hope I get to try the PB2!! 🙂 – Joanna

      Hi Joanna! 🙂 Okay, first of all I love, love, love the caramel macchiato. I totally used to order that all the time (before it was like $5 a drink). I did the same thing- “caramel macchiato, soy milk, sugar free vanilla syrup, etc.”- Andrew would be so annoyed. Haven’t tried the extra foam yet though- next time. 🙂 You are awesome for working full-time. This mom stuff is HARD work!!!! 🙂 I teach classes at the YMCA out there in Encinitas 3 times a week. Maybe we’ll have to meet up- we can go for a “healthy trot”! I’ve seen the cocoa powder at the Encinitas Stater Bros, but I think it’s cheaper on Amazon. I have it in my Amazon store on the site.       Earl gray tea- hmmm… never tried it. I’ll add it to my list. Eggs………… just bought some today so I better get on it. You can FREEZE them in the carton too (since I’m taking so long to post that). 🙂

    A plain ol’ iced coffee is definitely not my favorite drink, but it’s the only one I get while low-carbing.

    I’m a pumpkin spice latte whore in the fall. :drool: I think I might try your “caramel macchiato, soy milk, sugar free vanilla syrup, etc.” combo next time. <3

    Ok, I must say that I only go to starbucks when I feel I deserve a treat. When I do though I do love my sugar free mocha frap with yes, whipped cream. Remember I said a treat! My girls loved Clueless and I just saw it again recently. Kristin your blog is great and I share it on facebook frequently. Keep up the good work and stop by Bear again with the boys anytime. The gals loved seeing you and especially the boys. Have fun this summer and good luck with your goals. You are definitely an inspiration to me. Love you!

    Nice way to get your readers out of the woodwork! I’m with D on 16 Candles as my fave 80’s movie. Ohhhhhh Jake Ryan! And Long Duck Dong… best lines ever. Karate Kid is a close second. Um, and Adventures in Babysitting too. My Sbux order is a grande skinny vanilla latte with extra foam. When I get free coupons (tell me you have gold status too?) I order a venti quad skinny caramel machiatto.

        Yes! If you don’t go much, it’ll take forever, but you register your gift card and always pay with that. They track your purchases – after 30 purchases in a year you get a special gold card – then every 15 drinks, they send you a coupon for a free coffee (any size – so I get a $6 venti/quad). Free syrups, soy, and another free coffee on your birthday. It’s cool, but definitely encourages me to spend way more money there.

    My actual favorite is a peppermint mocha ( I used to think you could only get it at Christmastime. I was probably better off thinking that. Ha!) But what I actually order is a skinny vanilla latte.
