“They named it San Diego, which in German……”

means a whale’s……………………

Please tell me you’ve seen Anchorman.

This movie rocks!

I had to. Smile

I didn’t get to a post before boot camp the other morning (no surprise there). Things got a little hectic trying to get ready for our night away. We had exactly 24 hours of “date time” without the boys this weekend and we lived it up in San Di-ago. Smile

I won’t bore you with every detail, but I WILL share our fun times and our fun eats. (Which by the way have done me in, I’m over big meals for awhile. Ugh, but we had some AMAZING food that was worth every dollar and calorie.)

Using my AMEX for our frequent Costco trips= quite a few Hilton Honors Points over the years.

Hilton- here we come. Smile

Look at my nice “bangs” that decided to make an appearance again on our way out of Dodge town.

30 minutes in the car and……………..

Ahhhhhh……… a quiet hotel room with a great view.

I’m not sure how much time I thought I was going to have to read, but the idea of actually being able to focus on a magazine seemed so exciting. I grabbed anything I could find.

We started the festivities off at the pool.

We weren’t there too long because we wanted to hit up the hotel Happy Hour. When we went to check it out we couldn’t figure out why no one was there. What the? We had just seen a sign in the elevator about it. Well…………… Happy Hour was Monday-Friday. It was Saturday. Hey, we were off to a good start.

Thanks to my Hilton status (I guess I should be thanking Costco), we got a mini bottle of wine on the house. So we decided to make some spritzers. We didn’t need a stinking hotel happy hour. We had our own.

We DID manage to get our butts out the door make it to the Top of the Hyatt for a drink and a beautiful sunset view.

Love fancy drinks (especially from a straw)! I had the Bubbles to the Top.

It was pedicab time to our second destination.

One of our favorite restaurants. (It’s not what you think. It is a STEAK place.)

Guess which drink I had.

Yep! Serrano Chile Mojito. Fabulous (and he made it extra spicy for me).

This place was awesome. We got the New York Steak (but started with some calamari and salad).

Andrew’s job was to grill.

Mine was to drink wine and take (out of focus) pictures before he got too annoyed and threatened to take away the camera.

Mmm……. even the burnt garlic bread was delicious. (Maybe the wine had something to do with that.)

Hey, look who turned his frown upside down. (Maybe it had something to do with the picture in the background or it may have just been the wine again.)

After dinner I knew exactly where we HAD to go.

I LOVE ice cream!!! I got the Mint Bliss and ate the WHOLE thing. The reviews online said the sundaes were big enough to share. That’s just plain silly (when you’re talking to me). Winking smile

And while were were rolling ourselves on our way out, Andrew spotted this guy.

Troy Polamalu. He had a little scoop in a cone. That’s probably what I should’ve had. Ha! Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

We were out LATE (11:00pm).  And I was sporting my new bra (just in case you care). Thanks VS for the new “miracle”- best $30 I ever spent.

This morning I ran out to get us some lattes and a quick bite.

I LOVE when you stay somewhere that you can just walk to places. It makes me feel so cool. So cool in fact, that I wasn’t embarrassed at all to ask these ladies to take a picture of my in front of the hotel while I had something stuffed in my shirt. Who knows what it was. That seems to be the place for things.

Expensive “to go” lattes? Yes. But were they worth it? Yes.

Then it was workout time. I finally got to read one of my magazines. I can’t remember the last time I was on an exercise bike. I gotta say- it was pretty fun.

And I made Andrew take some pictures for me for a guest post I’m doing later this week. Boy did he LOVE that.

We couldn’t resist trying these out across the way.

Side note. I recently befriended Little Tommy after my little radio contest the other week. (He’s a radio producer here in SD and, actually, I’m one of his 5000 Facebook friends, so maybe that doesn’t really count.) He sent me a message asking if I ever ran “bleachers”. I got sooooo excited that he sent ME a message. I quickly wrote back and asked where it was and if it was in Escondido. He then informed me that they’re in every high school in the US. Oops. I am NOT the sharpest tool in the shed sometimes and my attempt to impress him went down the drain.

Back to the stairs (bleachers, whatever). These were serious and the fitness model couple next to us who would kiss at the top every time didn’t help the situation. But, they were really nice and took this picture for us.

After we worked up an appetite it was time for our last big hurrah. I was sooo excited about this one. I made special reservations and everything (which we were 15 minutes late for).

What is that thing in the picture?

Oh yes, all you can eat (and drink) buffet.

We ate (and drank mimosas) for a LONG time. I single handedly ate our money’s worth. Ugh. Here’s a few pictures of our experience.

Egg white veggie omelet.

Crab legs and lobster claws.

Cutie husband.

Dorky me with a cool miniature fork (and my “miracle” undergarment sticking out).

Amazing view.

Cutie husband again (with more legs and claws). Smile

A little break to let things settle.

More food.

HOLY DESSERTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My stomach still hurts. (Disclaimer- I was NOT a member of the clean plate club on this one, but I did come darn close. Andrew was really impressed and said I need to challenge someone to an eating contest. I would definitely be willing to do a contest if there was money involved. Maybe I could use my winnings to buy a Vitamix. Hmmmmmm.)

Okay, it really is time to go now. Staycation is under way (and in full swing). My goal in the next week is to play “catch up” with all my different projects: Mission Organization (MO), organizing THIS blog, cleaning closets, tackling my desk and eating as much fruits and vegetables and healthy food (after our little trip) that I can.

One question though before I go. Tina asked a question the other day on her blog asking what people’s thoughts were about healthy living/lifestyle blogs and what they preferred to read. So… it prompted me to ask the same question….

What do you like to read about? Do you like to see daily life (what’s going on) or do you prefer to read specific topics like a recipe, workout, motivation or a Trader Joe’s shopping list. (I’m working on that last one still, okay?) I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks for reading! I hope you had a WONDERFUL weekend!!!!!!!

Hallloooo. Loved this post. It reminded me what a fun place downtown SD is! (And that my husband and I should make a plan to get down there A-L-O-N-E!! Can I borrow your parents???? We are so lucky to live in the finest city. I can’t believe you STILL work out on a mini vacation!! Man!….you sure do know how to (make one feel bad) – line should be through that….. inspire!!
To answer your question about what I like to read about:
Variety is the spice of life (hey, no pun intended!) and since life is all about balance….you are doing a BRILLIANT job in mixing things up with diet, excercise, daily life etc. I would get bored reading about the same things every day. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Perdita! My parents were pretty wiped out yesterday. I think they’ll need a little time to recover. ha! And yes, isn’t it amazing how wonderful San Diego is? I totally take it for granted that it’s just 30 minutes away. And…. love the “variety is the spice of life comment”. 🙂

You look adorable and the best thing is you 2 don’t look like tourists.
I love to read great finds… such as have to buys and great recipes. I love what you do already. It adds those things but others too. I love reading your blog. Have a great week.

I like the mix and look forward to the Trader Joe’s list. Am also going to try some of your recipes later when the weather in Phoenix cools down and we complete our move from one house to another. My goal in the fall is heatlier eating. I have been hiking and doing some yoga, so I appreciate all that you fit into each blog. It is inspiring. And the kids are cuties!

maybe it’s because you’re one of my best friends and i’m bias… but don’t change a thing! i LOVE your blog and you do an amazing job of mixing it up. from daily life, family, food, working out… it’s all fantastic. my favorite part of this one is of course the mention of your $30 miracle sticking out and the bleachers at every school in the US. you’re so real and down to earth… your sense of humor shines throughout. love you and stuftmama.com!

I LOVE the new site redesign! I haven’t made it down to SD for a while now. (it’s only 2 hours away) I’ll have to look into that all you can eat buffet — for $30 bucks that’s a winner! (as long as you dont have any lite eaters!)

Thanks Jeff! That buffet was AMAZING! And yeah, for $30 it was totally worth it. I’m pretty sure we ate for 2 hours (and enjoyed the ocean view). We definitely got our money’s worth. PS- they’re really good at refilling your champagne glass too!
