Warnings and MOTW

First off.

Warning #1.

I wrote this earlier today on my Facebook page, but Trader Joe’s was OUT of broccoli slaw today and they informed me that they didn’t know when it would be back in stock. That is NOT okay with me.

Sad smile

It was a steal at $1.49 a bag. I REALLY hope it comes back soon. If not I may have to put Joaquin to work on his five finger Trader Joe’s discount again. Just kidding. I CAN survive a couple days without my beloved Broccoli Slaw. I know they sell it at other stores, but I prefer the Trader Joe’s brand as it’s cheaper and doesn’t have the cabbage.

Warning #2.

Do NOT let STUFT Fro Yogurt sit in the freezer for too long. I usually throw it together and put it in the freezer for 1-2 hours. Tonight it was in the freezer for 5 hours. Parts of it were frozen rock solid. It was still good, but a little harder (no pun intended) to eat. It’s MUCH better if just frozen a little bit.

It sat in the freezer that long because I put it in before going to a family BBQ at Tutu’s house today. There are ALWAYS the best desserts there and I’m really trying to stay away from sweets this month. I’ve been doing a little too much overindulging lately and my tight pants are telling me to lay off for a bit. This month I’m all about healthy substitutions. Speaking of desserts, I updated my about page tonight and had to laugh that one of the first things I wrote was that my talent was eating 3 desserts. Really Kristin? Why do I write that stuff?

And why do I show you my red upper lip (which is getting better by the way). Smile

Now for MOTW.

I want to start a new series (in addition to Flat Kitty Fridays). Each week I want to give you a workout or a move you can do. We tried a little taping session yesterday after I got home from teaching classes (excuse the sweaty mess).

Move of the Week

Burpie with a Plank Jack

We did this move at boot camp and at another class I teach at the Y. It was just too good not to share. I think my Biggest Loser boyfriend Bob would be proud.

Try to do this move for a minute straight and then rest a little. Or do 10-15 in a row and then take a break. If you can, go through 3- 4 times. You can mix it in with resistance training, moderate intensity cardio or just do these during commercials while you’re watching TV.

Burpie with plank jack

*This is my first attempt at videoing a move. I pretty much can only improve from here. Smile I do NOT always say “Woo, yay” like that. (I panicked in front of the camera.) And yes, that’s Joaquin saying “hi” to all of you for a little extra motivation.

Modification:

You can do this move by stepping your feet instead of jumping keeping everything low impact.

Pointers:

Keep your back straight and shoulders over your hands.

Your head should be in line with your spine so you’re looking at your hands.

Keep core tight and think about pulling in your belly button in towards your lower back.

“Woo, Yay!”

I may take a little blog break tomorrow. I HAVE to tackle my to-do list and really work on my MO (which was supposed to be done over a month ago). I may even venture into the scary green room where Flat Kitty was hiding last week.

Have a WONDERFUL Labor Day!

I’ll keep an eye out at my TJs (hillcrest) for the brock slaw. I know people that love that stuff, REALLY love it. I’ve always been meh about it..now if they ever didnt have sugar snap peas, mango chutney, or sumatra coffee…there would be…pandemonium for me :)

Strange…Whole Foods aka Whole Paycheck ;) was out of broccoli slaw this week too. You can imagine my disappointment now that I’m *addicted* to your recipe. I made it 3 times last week…even my die hard meat eating husband loved it! Btw…LOVE MOTW!

Shannon- I know it’s ADDICTING!!!! I’m so sad over here. I made due last night with zucchini instead, but it’s not the same. At least spaghetti squash season is coming and it works too. :) I have never been to Whole Foods. Maybe that’s a good thing though (since the aka name). Im ay have to splurge and buy it at Vons.
