The Gourmet “Pea” Experience

The Gourmet “Pea” Experience

Holy moly Batman, it was hard to not write this post last night because it was such a fun day, but I had to document the whole barber shop experience and all first.

Yesterday I dragged the boys and Grandma D to The Gourmet Experience. I had been looking forward to the event because there was a certain New York Times Best Selling author in town.

When we got there I sprinted calmly walked (with Grandma D pushing the stroller behind me) right to the Kid’s Can Cook area. There she was. The beautiful, fabulous Mama Pea. Her blog is AMAZING (and so is her book). She is truly an inspiration (one of these days I hope to be half as cool as her) and her sense of humor can pretty much turn any frown upside down. As one of her blog readers, you feel like you’re her best friend and you can’t help but instantly fall in love with the Pea family. And meeting her in person, well, it pretty much felt just the same way. She is the nicest, most down to earth mama you’ll ever meet. She totally made me feel like we had been friends forever.

I was too excited (and busy chatting) to get any pictures of the boys chowing down on her delicious Blueberry Streusel Muffins. Oops. I did manage to hang out long enough though to get my Peas and Thank You Cookbook signed, meet the whole Pea family (who are also just as amazing in person) and to enter to win a free Vitamix (my “dream machine”). Someday I will own a Vitamix……

I thought about introducing the boys to Gigi and Lulu since they have cyber crushes, but Grandma D told me it would be a little too much to go back to her booth a THIRD time. I let Grandma D win that one (she was, after all, the one pushing the stroller).

In my giddy state we took a loop around the expo.

I found some yummy hot BBQ Sauce that I had to try. Jake’s Barbeque Sauce– Inferno Barbeque Sauce. It was mighty delicious, but my attempts to get a free sample to take home failed. Ha ha!

We got to admire Fabio from afar (we didn’t have the VIP tickets for the demo).

Yes, that’s them admiring. Hey look, Grandma D was just as giddy as I was about meeting Mama Pea. She didn’t want to let go of my book. Maybe I need to get her one of her own.

About half way through we needed a little pick me up and just happen to stumble along Muddy Waters Coffee Co.

I sampled the Dark Roast Deep Blues Blend.

My attempt here for a free sample to take home and sample was well accepted. Yay! Can’t wait to brew my own at home. (I better find my coffee maker.)

Other highlights from the expo:

Talking with these nice ladies from Good Habit. Christiana was so nice and they had some pretty tasty gluten free goodies. The Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie was my favorite (shocker).

The boys, well, they just loved ALL the goodies. This IS their excited face when they’re in the stroller.

We met the cute Chef Betsy G. and tasted her yummy biscotti.

She sent us home with a box of her famous Outta-Sight Orange & Almond Biscotti which she said went really well with wine. I’ll have to try that out tomorrow!

I found a new local candy love. The Salty Sisters Sea Salt Candy Co.

We sampled the Claim to Fame Almond Toffee and it pretty much knocked our socks off. I’m so glad they’re a local company. Salty Sisters I may be knocking on your door really soon.

Unfortunately we had to pass up the Spirit Pavilion, although I saw another lady walking through there with a stroller. Is that even allowed?

Then I found this.

The Salt Farm had all different kinds of sea salts.

Here was our very short conversation:

“Do you have hot salt?”

“What is the hottest salt you have?”

“Ghost Pepper Sea Salt”

My only purchase at the expo. $10 Sea Salt. (I hope it lasts awhile.)

Before we left we passed by my “dream machine” demo while I tried to come up with a reason to tell STUFT daddy (Andrew) that I “needed” one.

I couldn’t come up with anything, but I did manage to come up with a reason to stroll by the Peas and Thank You booth one more time.

Mama Pea’s Pumpkin Spice Bars. Grandma D didn’t talk me out of it this time. (I shared my bar with her.)

Now the trip was complete.

Well, kind of……

These guys had to get out, run around a little bit and tell everyone to come see Mama Pea.

And while they moved their toes, Grandma D pointed out that mine weren’t looking too good.

Dang it. I hope Mama Pea didn’t notice.

Oh well, even if she did, I think we would still be friends.

Even if she did, I got an email with some freaking spectacular news this morning.

Oh yes, friends, dreams do come true.

Someday……….. just happened.

More on that later.

For now, I’m off to bed with my new BFF by my side.

Thanks Sarah for making yesterday so great!

Everyone got to meet Mamma Pea this weekend – I’m jealous! 🙂

Sea Salt Candy Co.?! I love sea salt and sweets. How did you not buy the whole booth? Haha. I bought white truffle sea salt in Italy and I want to stick my finger in the jar every time I walk by it.

Kristin- You and me both on the vitamix, sister. I ALMOST posted this last week on my fb, but never got around to it… sorry :/ SO about the vitamix…. You can get one on QVC or HSN (I’m really embarassed to say that lol- my mom shops on them like there’s no tomorrow, I kinda follow along. It’s VERY cool to shop from home (like the internet) but you see demonstrations and size etc) Ok, enough for my embarassing tv shopping plug trying to save face hehe 🙂 ANYHOO- Every 6 months one of ’em (sorry, can’t remember which) sells ’em. It JUST happened recently, BUT they let you make payments AND it had free shipping! I Seriously ALMOST bought one. I can swing 79 bucks a month for a couple months….but b/c of me talking about how we need it, the hubs knows how much it costs. Even if he never noticed a dent in our spending, I think he’d freak if he saw a “vitamix” on the counter instead of our $30 Hamilton Beach that we got at our wedding almost 14 yrs ago and “works just fine” boo. Anyway, just wanted to pass on the good news (which I MEANT to do on fb during that time) I need to live vicariously through SOMEONE getting a vitamx! lol

I have a jar in my kitchen and every time I use my current blender I put a dollar in the jar. It’s my VitaMix savings account. Something tells me you don’t need one of those anymore… 🙂

Looks like SUCH a fun day….I had plans or I would have loved to trek up there. We need a San Diego blogger meetup, soon!!

And get the Vita. Lifechanging. Tuck away some cash here and there and make room for that$$ in your budget. Girl. You will love it. Just do it. Even buy a refurb’ed one. They are like 300ish on the Vita site that way too.
