Yay! I don’t know if I’ve ever been so excited to write a post before.
I’m so humbled, thankful, overjoyed and blessed (not to mention tired, sore, and counting down the hours until pizza and wine tonight). But…….. this is about Amelia and our little STUFT family contribution towards Amelia’s Hope for Hearing.
Today we used our gift of running to Race for Amelia to help get her one step closer towards the gift of hearing.
Let’s start with last night, shall we?
After continuous rain ALL day yesterday we were a little nervous about the weather this morning. The boys and I were ready though, rain or shine.
(That was us yesterday picking up our race bib.)
Last night I made sure all our special outfits
and signs were ready (thanks Print World),
and got all of our gear (diapers, wipes, snacks, sippies, sunscreen, GU, water, etc.) packed. (And just in case you’re wondering, it’s not fun packing everything up for all of us to race. Ha ha!)
Then it was time to load up on some carbs. Dinner was whole wheat spaghetti, broccoli, chicken and tempeh with marinara sauce. I put it all together and stuck it in the oven.
Yes. A little too long. No surprise.
It was good anyway. I stayed away from my chili peppers in hopes of avoiding any incidents like America’s Finest City Half Marathon. (Crisis averted. Thank goodness.)
This morning I was up early. I had to give myself some time to try to take my own picture before the boys were up.
And to try to take a picture of the back of my shirt for our fabulous sponsors Flatout and SunButter.
Ummm….. they’re probably not going to be impressed with that picture. Oops. (Nice tag sticking out.)
Grandma D and Papap arrived about 5:45 am and got the car all packed up.
The boys were champs that early. Thank goodness.
It must have been their winter pajamas they still had on and their snow hats. (Yes, we live in sunny Southern California).
We were off!
Only one pit stop later (so I wouldn’t have to use those disgusting race porta potties) we were at our destination.
A quick sidewalk wardrobe (and diaper) change
and a couple of quick “before” pictures
and we headed to the Silver Strand Half Marathon starting line (with about 7 minutes to go).
I tried to push my way close to the start line. That’s how we roll stroll.
Andrew managed to get one action shot at the beginning. Can you find us?
All in all the race went well.
I felt good. The boys were quiet. No emergency stops (for me or the boys).
As always…..
some noteworthy comments along the way from others:
“The sun’s in their face.” (Thanks Mom. I have 13 miles to go.)
“You go Mama.” (I love those.)
“What do you have in there?” (Come on. No comment.)
“One is asleep.” (Yes, I know. It’s always like that.)
“Whoa, that’s humbling.” (Want to help push for awhile?)
“Is it snack time yet?” (For who, me?)
“It’s just like pushing a sail now.” (Really dude? At mile 11? You should try it. And just for the record, we passed him about a minute after he said that. I can’t help it. I have a competitive problem.)
The last 2 miles were brutal. Luckily Joaquin had his shaker egg for a little extra motivation. I’m sure no one found it annoying.
When we got really close to the finish line all the cheers were awesome.
(Oops. Sorry guy who got in Andrew’s shot. Hope you don’t mind me posting your face on the internet.)
The fact that we were going to see Amelia’s smiling face as soon as we crossed kept us going.
I’m pretty sure we were the first stroller across the finish line. I wish they had a special stroller division. THAT would be awesome.
But, that didn’t matter for THIS race.
THIS race was for Amelia.
After a few pictures it was time to find Grandma D and Papap.
Yep. That’s where everyone was while we were running 13.1 miles.
Must be nice.
(Side note- Andrew told me he was EXHAUSTED on the way home. Funny guy.)
After two more failed attempts to get a good photo of our sponsors on the back of my special lululemon shirt
(Note to self. Do NOT give camera to Andrew. He as a thing for these pictures.)
we decided to take a walk on the pier. (Thanks to Amelia’s sister Sienna for the suggestion.)
We made our way back through the crowd, took a few more pictures along the way,
and made it to the pier.
We decided to call it a day morning.
“Awww done.”
Time to go home (tag sticking out again and all).
Our signs even survived.
Yay!
Once we got home I had to check out how we placed.
I got a better time than the girl listed ahead of me. So I should be 35th (out of 350). Sorry. I can’t help myself.
We even did better than we did last year.
And this year I was pushing two 30 pound toddlers (rather than two 18 pound babies) and the 35 pound BOB stroller. I’m sure it’s because we had some extra motivation from Amelia.
This may have been our last race together.
It was a good one to end on.
A giant THANK YOU to our sponsors at Flatout and SunButter and to ALL of you who donated money to Amelia’s Benefit Account for our run.
We are truly grateful for each and every one of you and are so overwhelmed by your willingness to help such a great cause.
Thank you for supporting us and for making a difference in young girl’s life. Together we made over $1500 for Amelia.
To the Heston family:
Thank you for letting us be a small part of your journey. We know you still have a long way to go. You will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers every day.
Amelia-
You
Are
AMAZING.

That was probably the most inspiring post I have ever read. You and Amelia are amazing! 13.1 miles pushing a stroller with 2 toddlers-unbefreakinlievable!!
Jensine- thanks! You are too nice. 🙂 Love your fun word too “unbefreakinlievable”. ha ha! I can’t stop reading it! 🙂
YOU GO, MAMA! 😉
ooh, how I love this! all of it! you did great, Kristin! this warms my heart… and that last photo just makes me so happy 🙂
Spabettie- thanks! It warms my heart thinking about it too! I can’t wait to get some down time to catch up with your blog! 🙂
I’m seriously impressed!! THAT time and you were pushing the boys?!!? you are a super hero for sure!! Glad that everything went well, Kristin!
Thanks Lindsay! Trying to find some energy to do a quick Tuesday Trainer. I will NOT miss out this week. ha! 🙂 Did you get the part?
Aw I love the photo of you and Amelia together! I got goosebumps. Good job mama!
me too! me too! goosebumps :).
You ran that far with a stroller?!?! I am so far beyond impressed by you. Great race, great cause. You are totally inspiring.
Laura- thank you! It was tough, but for a GREAT cause! 🙂
Sweet – so sweet! You are Amelia’s angel!!! She’s so cute!
P.S. Andrew was also complaining tonight at mom’s about how tired he was! And while we ate pasta and jarred sauce, he has to tell us what you two are having for dinner (which I GUESSED, by the way!! I told him “I read her blog.”)
Ha ha! Yeah, not hard to guess what we celebrate with. Filippi’s pizza and cheap wine never gets old! 🙂
Wow! You are an inspiration but I know it is nothing compared to what Amelia and her family do every day. Congratulations on making such a difference in their lives! Is it two late to contribute? I am behind on your posts and missed the whole fundraising. Great job!!!
Erin- thanks! Not too late to contribute at all. 🙂 Details are on the running for Amelia page and you can still send checks to the STUFT Mama address or go throguh Paypal. 🙂 Let me know and I’ll put you on my “thank you” list. I have some fun stuff to send people! 🙂
What an achievement! I know this will go down as your most memorable race ever. I am so glad everything went well. You must be tired but so proud and empowered. You will always have a special in Amelia’s heart. Get some rest! Keep doing what you are doing…. What a success!
Totally. Most memorable race ever. Loved every second of being a part of it. 🙂 This week is madatory rest week. 🙂 We’ll see how that goes. Ha!
i ditto EVERYTHING everyone else says. i can’t even begin to understand how the heck you do what you do. but i need to add one thing i haven’t seen on here yet… you have the cutest little booty and i think andrew is funny. HA! love your cool lululemon shirt!
Um…. that booty is NOT that cute in person (must be the lululemon pants), but thanks for the compliment. ha! Love you!
What can I say………sniff, sniff. We are overwhelmed by your kindness and can’t thank you enough. You are a supermama for sure and will definitely hold a special place in our hearts forever! (and I did feel a little guilty enjoying some delicious coconut french toast while waiting for you to cross the finish line….you ran so fast we barely had time to finish it!!) Great pictures 🙂
YOU are a supermama! Thanks soooooooo much for letting me do this for you! Next time you and I will go eat yummy French toast while the guys
run withwatch the kids. ha!You are one amazing mama!!!! So awesome Kristin! I remember pushing one in a stroller, never 2, you really are superwoman. How wonderful that you ran your heart out for such a good cause. So proud of you. I get competitive just running on the street. When there is someone going in the same direction as me all of a sudden I get a little faster.
Marie- thanks. I get competitive running on the street too. You can’t help it, right? ha!
Ah, Kristin,
Way to go! We’re so proud of you and thrilled you asked us to support you in your amazing experience–and especially for Amelia. As usual, your post had me feeling I was right there cheering you on. (We visited San Diego a few months ago and I did my morning runs on Coronado, including gorgeous Sunset Park, so I savored thinking of you on the route — or at least the starting line!).
You’re an inspiration! Thanks for including SunButter and, of course, take good care, Kristin.
Elizabeth- Thank you! I can’t thank SunButter enough for being a part of such a special day! 🙂
Booty shots always appear when Peter gets the camera too. You have a nice one though! 😉
And you seriously amaze me. 13 miles with the jogging stroller? So hardcore! Congrats on the race and pushing through those last couple of miles. I find you so inspiring. Love ya, Kristin!
Tina- you inspire me! 🙂 I’m giving all credit for the booty shot to my expensive pants. They do wonders. ha! Congrats on YOUR accomplishment this weekend! 🙂 Yay!
This post brought tears to my eyes. You are one incredible woman. You inspire, you love, you nurture, you give so much of your time, your heart and your soul. Oh, and you eat and drink merrily along the way! (hehehehe….just had to throw that in!) You have an amazing family, from your boys, your husband, your parents, your inlaws….!! It’s so cool to see how they love and support you in your endevours. Well done with your race. And for raising SO MUCH for Amelia.
Perdita- thank you. I had tears too while writing it. 🙂 Hope we helped in some way. 🙂 And, yes, I know, I am truly blessed with the amazing family and friends that I have. 🙂
What an awesome race! Nice job Kristin! You ran that faster pushing a stroller than I will probably run mine on Sunday so I’m super impressed 🙂
Aww… thanks Gina. Good luck in your race Sunday! You’re going to do fabulous! 🙂
Way to go! I’m just catching up now and am so happy it went well for you! It must have been so great knowing that Amelia was waiting for at the finish line! Be proud 🙂
Jenny- thank you. It was AMAZING knowing Amelia and her family were there at the finish line. 🙂 It was a fabulous day! 🙂 Thansk for your support!
This is amazing and inspiring! I love the shirt! I think it looks great! Love the signs! (Love Flat out in general)! Love the pictures at the pier! Love that you pasted the dude who was snarky! Love this whole post! Hope you don’t mind all the love! Great Great job!
What an amazing post! You are like my personal hero. Seriously. I can’t believe how awesome you did! And what a big heart you have. 🙂
Holy cow! You’re half marathon time is faster than my PR *AND* you pushed a double stroller with two kids. I’m in awe – that’s amazing. Congratulations!
Thanks Heather. You are too nice. It was a flat course- thank goodness. 🙂
Big congrats to you, Kris! Such a great accomplishment to work so hard towards something and to get it done in such a big way – raising all that money and awareness for Amelia and for finishing in 35th place while pushing TWO little humans…amazing. So proud of you! Glad you have this blog and the photos to document the race so one day when the boys are older, they’ll understand how lucky they wree to be part of such an important day and to remember how much of a rockstar their mama is.
Love that you include the comments you heard from people as you were running – some of them are pretty funny…I think my favorite is your mom’s comment. And btw, could you look any better in that photo taken of the back or your shirt? Nope Your ass looks great (bit of a strange comment and I can I say “ass?” ha, too bad, I just did). 😉
Sash- Thanks for you NICE comment. Yes, this blog is nice ot be able to document everything, even if it takes up A LOT of time. 🙂 Please no cursing on the blog. JK. 🙂 I paid the price for those pants- they better make my backside look presentable. ha!
This is the first time I have had a chance to check your website since the half-marathon and I am a bit emotional after reading your posts and everyone’s comments. It makes me reminisce of the Cure song “Boys Don’t Cry”. Seriously, THANK YOU for all of the support you, Andrew and all of your family have provided. You should take pride in knowing you have helped changed Amelia’s life.
DJ- Thanks for reading the post. It was truly an honor. I wish we could’ve done more. Thank you so much for letting us be a part of Amelia’s Hope for Hearing. We will cherish THIS race forever! 🙂 PS- Joaquin foudn an old flyer today and he kept saying “Melia”, “glasses” and “running”. Awesome. 🙂
