In the Moment

 

I was going to do a What I Ate Wednesday post for my birthday eats yesterday, but I’m not.

The only actual pictures I took yesterday were of all my goodies I got from Love Grown Foods from my first LOVE drop.

He was quick to scope out his favorite flavor.

I also took some pictures of my lunch.

I had to put my first LOVE drop to good use right away (and take full advantage of nap time because yesterday morning was a doozie).

In the bowl- Chobani plain nonfat yogurt mixed with my homemade chia berry jam, some Love Grown Foods simple oats granola and a tablespoon of crunchy SunButter.

That’s not all.

There was a little something left over from STUFT Daddy’s trip to Starbucks earlier in the morning. I decided to live a little and add this treat to my yogurt bowl (you know, since it was my birthday and all).

I don’t even know exactly what is was. It was blueberry and delicious and I’m sure had more calories than I want to know. But, I added it and enjoyed every single bite.

I truly believe that part of balanced eating is letting yourself enjoy things in moderation. I did just that.

Then I followed it up with a soy green tea latte espresso twist.

The rest of the day was spent at the hair salon and then STUFT Daddy and the boys took me to dinner.

Last night I lived in the moment.

From 7:00pm to 10:00pm I did not look at my phone once.

I went out to dinner with the family looking tired and ragged. I had wet hair and was wearing sweats. The best thing was I didn’t even care because I was just content spending time with my men.

We went to BJ’s. I ate calamari, BBQ chicken salad, and vegetarian pizza. They even messed up the order and didn’t bring the dressing on the side (I always order the dressing on the side). Instead of complaining and making them do it over (as I usually would), I ate it. Full fat dressing and all.

Guess what else.

We ordered REAL pazookies. No homemade pizoatie yesterday. We got the sampler plate with 3 mini ones. One had a candle in it (so we could sing and everything- yep, just the four of us). We ate every last bite.

It was a great night. A GREAT night.

So…….

I’m taking a lesson from my friend Heather, and going to make a conscious effort to be in the moment more every single day.

Sure that may mean making a workout a little shorter, missing a message or an opportunity on Facebook, not being able to participate in a Twitter chat that would help my career, having less than mediocre boards on Pinterest, not being up to date with the big talk of the day with social media, not getting a post done every day, etc.

But……

it will also mean that I lived each moment of the day to the fullest and gave each moment and my friends, family, and clients all of my attention. Goodness knows they deserve it. 

Hope you get to do the same. Today and everyday.

Be in the moment!

On a side note-

Thank you for all your birthday wishes yesterday here and on Facebook. I am one lucky mama. I am thankful for you every day.

Oh and I’m going to a health fair today and planning on either bringing Peanut Butter Doughtzel Balls or Green Goblin Muffins. Which ones would impress people more?

    I am so with you on really taking time for life’s moments. Being spread too thin helps no one! Do what’s right for you and your family. Oh and totally take the balls! Everyone like balls, right? I’m glad you had a great birthday. I hope today treats you well!

      Ha! Yes, everyone loves balls. Being spread too thin is the story of my life. Not good. Wish we could enjoy some moments together and eat out of fun jars. :)

    Love this post. :) I missed the recent twitter chat for the same reason – it’s just not always my top priority. Last night, small group dinner/Bible study and then time with my husband was! And that’s fine – never feel bad about that (doesn’t sound like you are), especially on your birthday. ;)

    And I’d go with the balls – I LOVE your green protein muffin (eating one after my run today!) and can’t wait for your new recipe, but I think the balls are easier to grab and go and would seem more appealing at an event like you described.

    And hey – HAPPY (late) BIRTHDAY! Saw your post but neglected to wish you a good one yesterday! Here’s to a healthy, happy and honoring-to-God new year ahead full of freshness and vibrancy in your faith and life with your family!

    This was my New Year’s resolution – BE MORE PRESENT! Somedays are better than others, but I’m making progress. Sounds like you’re trying too!
