Balls and a Mix1 Giveaway


Ha ha. Balls.


I was busy making my Peanut Butter Doughtzel Balls yesterday morning for a health fair I attended. I was either going to take the balls or green gobblin’ muffins. I think I made the right choice. I need to lure people in first, right?

Speaking of, if there are any new visitors I met yesterday at the fair, welcome! I was thinking that these balls would be a great treat to bring to a Super Bowl party too! I totally forgot that this weekend was Super Bowl until yesterday and to be honest, if you asked me right now who was playing I would just give you a blank stare or a doughtzel ball.

Okay enough ball talk.

Let’s get to the giveaway.

I was sent this cute package of Mix1 all natural protein shakes awhile back to sample and review.


These drinks are popping up around a lot of different places these days. I just saw them at Vons for the first time a couple of weeks ago.


These protein drinks have a lot going for them. They are made with whey protein isolate, are filled with antioxidants, have heart healthy fats and even have soluble fiber. It’s not that often that a protein drink has fiber.

My favorite flavor is the vanilla one.

The also have some that are lean performance shakes for 100 less calories and less sugar.


I tried that acai-pomegranate one first. I love that they are a protein drink with antioxidants too.


I was also just sipping on a vanilla one while I wrote this. (I know, cute that I put in a matching straw.)


I’m thinking about adding the second half of it to my coffee as creamer.

    They gave these out at a triathalon I did in the fall.. soo good! And they were so light, so it was easy to have one post-race! I like to drink protein shakes while I am bartending, because I need to eat every 4 hours and I don’t get a break on busy nights until late. But I do have access to a blender 😉

    I love Mix1! They handed them out after a race I ran last spring and I have been hooked. I’ve never seen the vanilla flavor before though. I have a protein shake after every workout.

    I definitely go for the protein shakes after I run or work out, but these drinks look amazing so I may just have to drink them other times of the day as well! I mean, for less than 100 calories and yummy flavors how can you go wrong??

    Before and after my workouts, practices, and hockey games! Best drink for fueling up and for recovering. Great as an in between meal ‘snack’ too!

    I have at least one every day, either for breakfast and/or I will drink half before a run or swim and the rest of it after. I can’t eat a lot before working out cause it will upset my stomach (heartburn anyone?) and these drinks never cause my stomach any issues and they taste delicious 🙂 thanks for the recipe too!!

    Mix 1 shakes are perfect to throw in my gym bag for post workout on the drive to work in the morning. If its a nice cold and dark morning I’ll throw one on the dashboard so I have a nice cold mix 1 waiting for me to drink on the drive as the sun rises!

    I don’t eat before lifting (though I’ll eat a little before a run) so I usually do the protein shake after a workout. Mix1’s are great, although I can’t help but feeling like the “light” version is just a watered down version of the regular shake (like how “light” apple juice is just half water / half juice). Anyone care to comment on that?

    Not necessarily anything wrong with that, but since they’re sold for the same price it seems kinda tricky.

    I drink an ice cold Mix after ever major workout…. Religiously! There have been two times I didn’t follow this procedure and both times I was injured the next day. I guess that means Mix 1 for life!

    I drink two a day! Religiously. Every morning for breakfast I have Isalean Shake by Isagenix. And in the evening to take the edge off after a long day with 5 kiddos! I add extra protein too (Isa Pro by Isagenix)
    I say take the edge off, cause if I don’t feed myself with high density nutrition I can turn into an evening grazer. I’m much more successful at navigating my way through my happy, stressful PM, put kids to bed get life back together routine if my brain if properly fed! I’ve been doing that for over a year and a half and am now just looking to keep adding more great nutrition! I love your recipes! Coaches Oats with Costso triple berry and Sun Butter is my new favorite!!!

    Hmmm – I have never heard of these shakes before and I’m totally intrigued! I like to have a shake after an early morning workout on the drive in to work (I’m a multitasker haha). Adding the vanilla one to coffee sounds like something I’d do too! Great giveaway!!!

    Those shakes look awesome! I like to drink shakes post-work out usually but sometimes before. I’m still not 100 percent sure when the best time is to do that. Maybe you can write a “fueling for workouts” post? I work out late at night after work and after dinner has digested so I usually eat peanut butter or a shake or something post-work out.

    I’ll usually make a protein smoothie in the morning for breakfast. Then I freeze the rest in Popsicle moulds for Lincoln – he thinks it’s ice cream and I like the added protein he gets 🙂
