Green, Clean and Gluten Free

I had high hope of yesterday being a good day as the boys and I had nothing on our schedule. A very rare occurrence around here.

Things really started looking up when for the first time in over a week I didn’t have to take Judah directly from his crib to be hosed off outside due to some “issues”. I also didn’t have to do the two extra loads of laundry that I’ve been having to do everyday for the past week.

Oh yes. Things were good. I took him off gluten for three days and it’s like a miracle. Crazy. I don’t know exactly what’s going on, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we’ve turned a corner.

After posting the Queen Quinoa Green Muffin Saturday, I naturally had to make some for breakfast for the boys and I. We made ours minus the chia and oats.

*Note- the recipe has been updated with a printable version here.

I topped it with some SunButter on one half and some coconut butter on the other.

Smile

I also made some time to clean. I felt like I had to since I recently got some products to sample from Green Works.

IMG_9460

It may or may not have been a set up by STUFT Daddy to get free cleaning supplies to make me feel like I have to clean a bit. Ha ha. Just kidding.

Goodness knows though that I’ve been doing my fair share of disinfecting this past week. Ugh. I decided to put these products to the test.

These wipes were pretty handy and have found a new home under the kitchen sink for easy access.

IMG_9463 IMG_9465

The all purpose cleaner not only smelled good, but seemed to clean up my dirty stove fairly easily.

Before.

IMG_9467

After.

IMG_9469

It was clean for approximately 2 hours (during naptime).

Smile

This Green Works stuff is awesome. I think I have a new favorite all purpose cleaner, which is good timing since I can’t seem to locate Simple Green anywhere lately.

I have to admit I haven’t used the toilet bowl cleaner yet. I dread cleaning the toilet. I wish Kitty drinking out of it would count as cleaning. Kidding. Kidding.

You can find more information and purchase Green Works products on their Facebook page here. I also saw that their products were on sale at Target the other day.

Okay, now onto some snack talk.

I’ve spend over $100 dollars the past few days stocking up on gluten free foods for Judah. I figured it would be too difficult to have him be gluten free while letting Joaquin eat everything, so we’re all making a few changes.

The boys really wanted to do a video so here we are talking about some fun gluten free finds. Most of our goodies are from Trader Joe’s and are on the go snacks. I’m new to all this, so I just shopped for things that had a little “g” on the package and/or said gluten free.

The video is short, the food finds are tasty and chainsaw mass Kitty makes a cameo at the end for a little gluten free dance you won’t want to miss (especially on a Monday morning). I’m not sure why we taped this in the family room, but oh well. Oh and don’t mind the glare on pretty much all the packages I hold up. I’m pretty professional like that.

Smile

Mmmmm….. travel snacks.

Another on the go snack that I didn’t mention on the video are Larabars.

IMG_9473

We love them. I tried to hoard some from my race last weekend, but they were only letting people take two samples each. Boo.

I talk about this stuff in the video also, but Love Grown Foods granola is pretty spectacular.

I got my first LOVE drop a couple months back that is dwindling away.

IMG_8696

The first empty bag was this one of course.

And well, since it’s Monday and all, I thought I should share the LOVE.

I have some coupons to give away.

One reader will receive two coupons: one for a FREE bag of Oat Clusters and Love and another one for $1.00 off of a bag.

Exciting right?

I haven’t been following you too long but I love the blog! I’m thinking a new flat kitty theme could be a spin-off from the Ellen show…having flat kitty “dance” behind people while you film. She has people send in videos of them dancing behind people secretively, then it’s set to music…it’s pretty hilarious!

Haha bestttt video! I started eating gluten free a month ago (see here: http://dareyouto.blogspot.com/2012/03/ditch-wheat-for-week.html) and so I, too, have been scouting out products. For the most part, I just try to eat real, whole foods that naturally have no wheat, but it’s helpful to have snacks like the ones in your video (and larabars, yes!) when we’re on the go or traveling. Apples, baby carrots, and nuts are also great to pack on-the-go. I’ve been meaning to try those seaweed chips! Guess I gotta make a trip to Trader Joe’s ! (What a shame… :) ) Thanks for sharing! Love your blog.

Some gluten free finds that I love– Mary’s Gone Crackers- Original- they are at Costco now. They are great for adults and big kids…too crunchy for little kids. They are really good with a great cheese like Syrah cheese at Trader Joes.
I also love the glutino pretzels
Yogurt is a great gluten free snack
    dark chocolate
    raw nuts

Thanks for the suggestions Annette. I just bought those crackers at Costco today. :) Oh shoot- hopefully they’re not too crunchy though. I just read that part.

Take fruit, dip in greek yogurt, and freeze. It becomes like those like gerber yogurt bites but waaay cheaper and healthier. A good bite size snack!

  8. 8

i’m honestly not knowledgeable at ALL when it comes to gluten free eating, so i’m not going to make any recommendations. i also don’t have any creative ideas for flat kitty themes. ha! it’s a monday… can you tell?! i will say that i’m so glad to hear judah is feeling better! and i’ll just say again that both of your boys are adorable. :)

Love seaweed snacks and Lara Bars – good to hear they are both gluten free too! And watching kitty dance was awesome – it made me laugh – that poor, little, naked kitty. :)

I googled gluten-free snacks and edamame was on the list – yum! That’s a good snack, but might be a little wierd for the boys. How about Alexia Sweet Potato fries though? Those sound kid-friendly to me!

Ha ha. Glad you liked Kitty’s dance. Yeah, poor guy. I’ve tried edamame with them before. Sometimes they like it and sometimes they don’t. Oh.. .sweet potato fries. There’s an idea. :)

We love the bean and rice chips from Trader’s -dipped in yogurt dip. They are made from adzuki beans, which Dr. Oz says are the healthiest beans to eat! My mom and I were just trying to find the beans the other day- appears to be a reddish bean from Asia. We’re still looking………

The products I thrive on are Gluten Free by Isagenix. I use them as part of a cleansing and replenishing system. My digestion has never been better! I’ve been using Isagenix since Oct 2010. My kids love it! They beg for shakes and love the bars too. I love that I can give them fast food that is so nutrition dense, organic and gluten free. It makes for lots of happy tummys! And with 5 little tummys that makes for a happier Momma too! (They have great Chocolate too. ;)

I use the Green Works products as well. They really are great – that and my Magic Eraser ;-) Seriously love Love Grown granola for a great GF snack. I always try to keep some on hand for when my sister comes up for a visit. Either eat straight out of bag or over Greek yogurt. So good. I know that’s not exactly original…LOL. I also like the Think Thin protein bars as they are sugar- and gluten-free.

Another fun gluten-free cereal is creamy buckwheat. It’s become my new favorite. I buy Bob’s Red Mill. In bulk.
I’ve never had this famous Love Grown Granola and now I never will because I can’t have oats anymore BUT I’d love to give it to my mom. Granola and greek yogurt is her 2x/day snack. Took me forever her to get her on the greek!!

      STUFT Mama says:

Creamy buckwheat sounds AMAZING! I need to get some. Just cook it like oatmeal?

      • Yes but it doesn’t take as long. Like anything else, it takes a little experimenting to figure out how you like it but I prefer it over oatmeal. I never would have discovered it without my allergy! Technically it’s not even a grain and has crazy health benefits too.

Love our gluten free treats! Those seaweed snacks are so good. Max loves them. Popcorn is definitely one of our favorites here too. Who doesn’t love a dancing cat? Seriously, that is entertainment! I hope you’re having a good day so far. I’m so glad the little tummies are doing better gluten free. I know the clean up is rough, but the upset tummies are even worse. Hugs to you friend!

Do you have an iPhone? The “Is That Gluten Free?” app is really good. I’m back on the gluten free wagon (2 weeks now) so I’m happy that you’re doing it too. Not that I’m happy that Judah is having tummy trouble, but I’m happy that I’ll have more yummy recipes to try. :-)

I love Mary’s Gone Crackers but agree that they are a little too crunchy for kids. Larabars are a staple, as are raw almonds. I also really like the Trader Joe’s gluten free brown rice bread that I mentioned before and Vans gluten free waffles (from Henry’s). Brown rice rice cakes are tasty with nut butter and bananas. I don’t eat a lot of snack-y things… like Meredith, I just try to avoid barley, wheat and rye.

Good luck! I hope the blow outs continue to stay away.

I have a friend who is gluten free and she snacks on edamame, homemade larabars(my recipe!) and Mary’s Gone Crackers. I know my kids like edamame and my larabars so that might be an option. Glad to hear the little guy is doing better! Isn’t it crazy how things can change so quickly?

Ugh that is just no fun, hope Judah gets to feeling better soon. Speaking of Judah, I think you should put together a post with how the boys came to be, the delivery and how you chose their names. I love both of their names and always love to hear stories like that.

Nice work on the clean house, I hear you on the toilets. UGH my least favorite part, especially with all boys in my household. They just can’t aim right:).

Love Love Grown, this is (almost) as good as a Chobani giveaway.

Have a great week. Hope it slows down for you but knowing you it will just get busier!

    Take care!
