“NUUN”-thing is Going to Stop Me

Hi friends! Hope you had a wonderful Easter yesterday!

Besides the Easter bunny really “making a mess” (Joaquin’s quote, not mine),

the fact that the boys are still sporting their Christmas pajamas in April,

our taxes went untouched one more day

and I decided to have not one, but two full fat dairy filled desserts last night, we had one amazing day celebrating with family.

So… of course on top of Easter this past weekend (when I should have been doing nothing but taxes) I learned about three very important things:

- NUUN

- the Hood To Coast Relay

- that NUUN is putting together three blogger teams for the HTC relay

I don’t know how in my years of racing and my fitness career that I had never really learned much about NUUN electrolyte drink tabs. I do know that now that I’ve read about them I want to get my hands on some as soon as possible. I’m always on the lookout for electrolyte drinks without calories and sugar and these, my friends, seem to be just that. I have yet to try them though, so I will make sure to fill you in once I find some.

The people over at NUUN (again, we haven’t met yet, but I have a feeling we’ll be fast friends) are putting together three relay teams for the Hood To Coast relay in August this year. It’s the largest 199 mile relay in the world up in Oregon and it’s pretty much calling my name (as are taxes).

I couldn’t help but apply for this (and of course today is the deadline). So instead of making an elaborate video and blog post (like all the other awesome applicants), this is my submission.

Here’s my Nuun audition video that I got no help in making. Since STUFT Daddy refused to help me tape it. (He would rather mow the lawn. And yes, the lawn mower is on pretty much the entire time in the background.) The boys wanted nothing to do with helping either, so I’m all by myself and they don’t even know what the video is for. Surprise.

Smile

Ha ha! I wear my “Running is Cheaper Than Therapy” hat for a reason.

Let me run for you! :)

Here are NUUN (NINE) reasons why the NUUN folks need me for the team (in addition to my “therapeutic” ones I talked about in the video).

1. I have a lot of practice staying up until the wee hours of the morning. I’ll be getting some really great practice the next two nights with taxes. I’ll just consider it my “training”.

2. In the countless races I’ve run, I have yet to run a relay. I would love my first experience to be with NUUN and some other awesome bloggers/runners.

3. I train pushing a 100+ pound double stroller most of the time.

4. I’ll bring Flat Kitty with me.

5. I’m pretty darn energetic and will cheer on my teammates, but try to entertain them with some stories as well.

6. I can sleep, eat and run anywhere.

7. My race times are getting pretty fast and I’m very competitive. NUUN wants to be one of the top teams right? He he. I promise I’ll put in some extra training.

8. I have yet to be on a plane since the boys were born and this is the perfect first trip for me.

9. Well, shoot, it’s early on a Monday morning and I have some cat barf to clean up along with 6 fitness classes to teach and some cranky boys to get up…….. let’s just say you NUUN NEED me, okay? You need an official “Team Bob” member. He he.

Even this guy thinks so too.

Oops. I just remembered I’m not supposed to be blogging about myself this week. Sorry friends. The deadline for this application was today. Would love it if you could humor me and watch my application video. It’s less than 2 minutes.

I have some good stuff coming up later this week for YOU!

Speaking of……

Don’t forget to enter the Technogel giveaway for the greatest pillow ever. (I wonder if I could take it with my to the relay?)

The Yumvelope giveaway post has been edited with the winner. Click here to see if you won. I LOVED reading all of your Easter memories. They all sounded so much fun!

Have a wonderful day!!!!!

Have you ever had NUUN or ran a relay? I’ve been missing out, right?

I’m so glad you applied for this – you’d be a great addition to the team! I think you’d really like Nuun, very light in flavor. In has a hint of effervescence which is my only complaint – I have a sensitive tummy and it didn’t agree with me last time I tried it.

    Good luck!!

So I thought of you on Friday. I pushed my almost 6 year old in my jogging stroller for 7 miles and I am 9 weeks pregnant and feel like crap! I gave him the option of riding his bike (which I’m not sure he’d make 7 miles) or the stroller and he made a smart choice. Ha! I had to dust it off and pump up the tires considering it had been 3+ years. Oh and I found moldy snacks of his that were there since our last run. Ewe. I trained for my marathons pushing that thing and for some reason it was much harder this time. I can only imagine with twins how hard it would be!

Good boy for making the “right” choice. Ha ha. And how fun that you found some bonus snacks in the stroller as well. Congrats on being 9 weeks pregnant Jody!

I run Big Sur marathon relay every year. Although its not 199 miles or overnight, it is still a fun experience! Good luck!

I’ve seen Nuun but never really knew much about it, I’ll have to give it a try!

Love your list! I’ve not tried NUUN or run a relay. Lots of luck to you. Totally think you deserve this!

I love NUUN! Great post workout and for cocktails!

I wanted to apply for HTC but the hubs was not buying me flying across the country to run a relay race while he stayed home with the twins. Who would be working harder????

Good luck on making the team!

Oh, was I supposed to ask my husband first? I forgot that part. Oops. You’re too nice Angela. Maybe you could butter him up with a NUUN cocktail.Ha ha.

NUUN is fabulous! There are so many flavors too. I recommend Tri-Berry. Back in November, I also found a grape-flavored one that supported the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – even better!

Crossing my fingers and toes that you make the NUUN relay team!!

good luck!!!! hope you make it!

If I was Nunn I would totally want you on my team. In fact, I want to start a team just so I can ask you to join. Team Green Stuff!

I’ve done HTC twice – the first time it was…10 or 11 years ago, and then did it again just this last year. NUUN was a sponsor last year, and they had their drink available at some of the transition areas, so I gave it a try. I tend not to drink a lot of flavored beverages while on the run (I haven’t been doing long enough miles to make it very necessary) so I haven’t had it since, but I remember it hitting the spot – it was a HOT day!

Hood to Coast is frickin’ awesome, but exhausting. And of course time #2 I was 10-11 years older (*cough*) and it took me longer to recover after. I was so sleep deprived I wasn’t right for a week! But I wouldn’t have traded the experience for anything.

      STUFT Mama says:

Stephanie- I didn’t even think about the recovery as far as sleep goes. Oh man, this getting older business is for the birds isn’t it? :) Are you running this year? Oh and my friend gave me some NUUN to try tonight. I’m going to get into it tomorrow. :)

      • Stephanie says:

Most of the time I am in denial about getting older, but that week I couldn’t! I don’t think it’s on my plan for this year. There are some other travel plans I have, and one of them is in August, so timing wise I don’t think it will work out.

  13. 13

Oh, I really hope they pick you for their team! I ran Hood To Coast a couple of years ago, (with 2 days notice) and had a total blast! It is one of those experiences you will remember your entire life, and having not even met most of the people on my team until the race, we became fast friends, and are still friends today. Since then I’ve run two other relay races and they all were so much fun. Funny how quickly you forget the not-so-good parts of an overnight relay and only remember the good. Good luck Kristin!

Love the video! Hope you get in! Haven’t heard of NUUN, but I will keep an eye out for it. Sounds like a perfect re-fueling option!

  15. 15

Wow I completely forgot about NUUN. I had a lot of it this particular summer when I was training in powerlifting and kept getting heat stroke. It really helped me then. I bet it’s great for runners. Once they see your video they’ll have to have you on board!

  16. 16

Good luck Kristin! Both on your NUUN relay entry and your taxes. ;)

  17. 17

You totally deserve it! I hope you get it! Taxes, yeah, I’ve touched them, but who are we kidding…there is definitely an extension in my future. This is the first time ever for me. So sad. This week is not going to slow down, so I know they won’t be in on time. Bummer. Good luck with yours and on NUUN!

      STUFT Mama says:

Oh Sarena- I’m hoping on getting them done by Wednesday. I even cancelled my “date” with Bob to focus on taxes. I’m not happy about it. I hope you get a little time to relax this week and catch up with everything. Thinking about you!!!

  18. 18

Love it…. you would be an excellent addition to the team. AND you are going to LOVE the relay expereince. I’ve done 2 (not H2C tho) and they are a blast. Good luck!

  19. 19

Love the video! :D That relay would be so much fun! I tried Nuun at a race a few months ago and I got a few free samples that I shoved to the back of my pantry and forgot about so this reminds me to go find them..the flavor isn’t super strong so it’s very refreshing although I found them a little salty. I still think they’re a good alternative to other drinks!

      STUFT Mama says:

Maggie- so funny that you said that because as soon as I read all about NUUN I went looking through my pantry to see if I’d ever gotten samples from a race or anything that I forgot about. I didn’t find anything though. :) Thanks for watching the video. :)

    Holly says:

I’m a big NUUN fan! It is so much less sugary tasting and light than the other sports drinks. It does has a weak fizz to it, but that doesn’t bother me. The lemon-lime flavor is very subtle. I always have a couple of tubes handy for long, hot runs or races!

    Miz says:

I LOOOOVED watching the teams and cheering last year.
thats what this non-runner does :-)

  23. 23

YAY!! LOVED the video! You NEED to be on that team!! =) Bummed that I can’t apply this year…but I’ll be cheering you guys on from over here =)
