Okay, first of all, if this post is a bit of a disappointment (like the title), it’s the boys’ fault, NOT mine. They are still refusing to nap.
Good times. Good times.
The other day we took a little trip to Smart and Final because my sister-in-law informed me that they have my favorite cocoa powder there. (I made the special trip less than 24 hours after I got the text from her. Yeah, problems.)
Clearly the boys were as excited as I was.
We found it and bought the last two containers. I wasn’t too excited about the price, but it beats Amazon.
We also found this.
Check out the price on that baby. AWESOME.
Something that wasn’t awesome was the size of the carts.
You’d think at a bulk store, they’d have bigger carts like Costco.
Wondering what else I squeezed into the cart?
Iceberg lettuce- perfect for healthy chicken nachos. I’ve also been wanting some shredded lettuce for sandwich wraps lately. It’s so much better sometimes.
Ha ha. Yeah. Three ginormous bags of broccoli slaw. It says one bag serves 11. They must not know how fast we go through the stuff around here.
I couldn’t pass this one up. Not sure if I have room in our refrigerator though. Ha.
Some huge cans of pumpkin. Score.
Serrano chilies. Score.
Um, excuse me.
Some sugar free Torani syrup. $3.99 a bottle when you buy six. Done and double score.
We’ve got enough sugar free syrups and wine here to last AWHILE. Those darn 6 pack carriers get me every time.
Now, the very next day I stopped at Stater Brothers to deposit some money and I found these on the shelf for $2.99 each.
Figures.
Enough lousy pictures of my groceries. Sorry. Again I’m blaming the no nap thing.
Since I’ve got a little race tomorrow (the La Jolla Half Marathon), after boot camp this morning I scarfed down a sweet treat breakfast sandwich.
That looks a little scary today, doesn’t it? Maybe this one is better.
Or maybe not. Ha ha. I don’t care. This sandwich rocks my world.
Then I made an iced green tea sugar free vanilla espresso latte for the road
and we headed out to the expo.
This expo wasn’t very exciting. Some expos are awesome, this one, not so much. The highlights of the trip were finding some Nuun
getting a couple of free samples, playing on the playground
and driving this pretty cool fire truck.
I was a sucker and bought the boys some ice cream on the way back to the car, probably not the best idea, but oh well. (Hmm… maybe that has something to do with the no napping thing.)
When we finally got home I had a salad (romaine, a Serrano chili and chicken breast).
Instead of dressing I used these- TATS BBQ sauce and Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning. (One of you told me about this Everyday Seasoning on a comment last week and I went out and bought it. Thanks.)
Instead of water I had this- Kona Cola Nuun.
Instead of napping, the boys climbed in and out of their cribs multiple times. I lost count.
So did Kitty.
It was the perfect time to whip out this.
Fudgy Peanutty Overnight Oats
1/2 cup oats (40 grams)
3/4 cup nondairy milk (I used unsweetened almond milk)
1 ripe banana, mashed
2 tablespoons PB2
2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
1 tablespoon chia
1 sweetener packet (I used Splenda)
splash of vanilla
1-2 tablespoons nut butter of choice (optional- mine was the leftover nut butter in the jar)
Combine all ingredients and let sit in refrigerator for a couple of hours.
These were soooooooo good. They were a mix of three ingredient fudge and basic overnight oats, made just that much better in an almost empty jar of NuttZo.
I will definitely be repeating them, especially if this (the Great Escape) keeps happening.
Don’t be fooled by the outdoor pictures, it actually looked a little something like this when I ate it.
Ha ha. Yes, Sesame Street saved the day yet again (the boys are on the couch beside me).
And yes, these dark chocolaty oats were that good.
Hope you’re having a good weekend.
See you after the race tomorrow.
Don’t forget to enter the Coach’s Oats Pancake Mix Giveaway. You’ve got to get your hands on this stuff.
Do you all shop at Smart and Final? Have I been missing out all this time?

I love Smart & Final and what is this “extra” bit?? I’ve never seen that one. Actually, we don’t have them up here and that’s where I buy my spices! They have my favorite curry powder. I also miss Stater Bro’s, can’t believe I’m saying that, but there is no “cheap grocery store” up here either. Weird how things are so different. Good luck tomorrow! Can’t wait to hear all about it! Just don’t have all that syrup and wine PRE-race 😉
What great food finds!
Good luck! We are running the Big Sur relay marathon tomorrow.
How was the cola Nuun? I want to try it but haven’t been able to find it yet. Have fun tomorrow!
Don’t you hate it when you find something you just bought at a better price somewhere else?? Happens to me all the time.
Good luck! Can’t wait to hear about the race!
we don’t have a smart and final in st. louis. i HATE finding things at a better price soon after i just bought them! so frustrating! kind of like the boys naptime… 😉
I hate when I buy a product and then find the same one cheaper…usually happens that way doesn’t it. Sorry the boys still aren’t sleeping! Hopefully its just a little phase. Love all of your foodie finds too. Looks delish! Good luck with the race!
Girl you are giving me heartburn just looking at all those Serrano peppers and red chili flakes you eat!!!
I ran the La Jolla Half today as well!!!!! Can’t wait to hear all about your race! <3 Hope you did as well as you were expecting!!! And yes, the expo was a little lame, but I still left with some fun stuff!!!! 😉
Smart and Final – everything you need, nothing that you want. Unlike Costco – where I always want a million dollars worth of stuff. Smart and final – I’m in I’m out, usually for less than $100.
thank you for reminding me of that choc/pb oatmeal recipe! i used to make that all the time as overnight oats for a chocolate-y, peanut buttery breakfast! it’s even just as yummy without the bananas (as I’m eating them now since mine are super green still..) I have been stuck on your overnight less oats for weeks now so this is good change up…PS congrats on the race!
What’s PB2?
Powdered peanut butter.
