Wannabe Starbucks, a Story and a Tease


Good morning.

I totally forgot to mention a really important thing with my working it out tips yesterday.

Every minute counts.

If you only have five minutes, you only have five minutes. You don’t need a huge chunk of time to exercise. Do what you can when you can fit it in.

Yesterday I was totally that lady who was using my resistance band standing in the wood chips at the playground while the boys played. Yeah, it was a little embarrassing and I got a few looks, but that was the only time I had to get a couple upper body resistance moves in. I took it.


let’s see, what else happened yesterday worth mentioning?

Well, we did some serious damage at Souplantation.

Not only can a build a salad like no other, I bring my own dressing and I have to sample pretty much every muffin they have there, but I also decided that I really want one of these chairs at home. (I want it to be big enough for me to sit in too.)


Ha ha.


I also recreated my usual Starbucks order for STUFT Daddy yesterday afternoon and since it passed his taste test and all, I figured I’d share.

Before I give you recipe, I have to admit it’s not as good as the Starbucks version. There’s something about Starbucks that is so darn good. I wish I could pretend every day was a special occasion (like this one) and splurge on my $4 Venti soy green tea latte creation.



I guess I’ve had a few “special occasions” the past few months. Ha ha. (I really should have used that money to get my yearly manicure instead since my nails are hideous.)


My FAVORITE Starbucks drink:

Venti Green Tea Soy Latte, minus the classic syrup, 1 pump (or 2) sugar free vanilla syrup, 1 (or 2) added shots of espresso



Here’s my wannabe Starbucks creation I made at home yesterday.

(I’ve made a warm version here, but I prefer it cold over ice or blended.)



Wannabe Starbucks Favorite Tea Latte with a Twist

1 tablespoon instant espresso (or cold brewed espresso)

1 scoop matcha green tea powder 

2 tablespoons sugar free vanilla syrup

1 1/2 cups milk of choice

1 cup ice (if blending)


Combine all ingredients. Shake and/or stir and serve over ice or blend.




Café Pilon instant espresso (I get it at Target for about $5), Torani sugar free vanilla syrup (Smart and Final for super cheap, Vita Life matcha green tea powder (from Amazon, but there is probably a better matcha powder out there somewhere)


Andrew takes his with 1% milk.

I make mine with this combination (which is also my daily combination with my morning mocha lately).


1/2 cup Soy Slender (I get it at Target or Sprouts) and Silk PureAlmond Unsweetened Vanilla (I use the Almond Breeze version sometimes too- it just depends what’s cheaper or if I have a coupon)

The drink was pretty good. You should try it (with a glass straw of course)!


Dinner last night was just worth mentioning really quick. I made a little Chinese version of broccoli slaw and kale.

I sprayed a pan with nonstick spray and stir fried kale, broccoli slaw and shrimp on the stove and added a combination of all these sauces and spices.


I didn’t measure anything, just dumped them in, but the result was pretty darn impressive.


It was made even better with a little added soy sauce and rooster sauce (and chopsticks).



Now for a little story time.


A couple of days ago I told STUFT Daddy that I wanted to start getting up at 5:30 am and getting things done before the boys wake up. One of those things included making him an Andrew’s Morning Mocha (recipe definitely needs to be revised) for him to drink on the way to work.

Well, this morning I thought I might try to sleep in a bit. However, at 5:45 am I hear STUFT Daddy asking me where his coffee is (while I’m still in bed mind you).

Yep. That’s right.

Me and my big mouth.

Then…… he called me tease. That didn’t phase me at all though since I’ve been called that many, many times. I just rolled over.

Unfortunately I couldn’t fall back asleep so instead I took my tired, pajama wearing butt outside to take some pictures.


Why yes, I have been wearing the same pajamas for many days in a row and yes, I really should stop posting pajama pictures of myself on here.

See that book?

Andrew came home with it yesterday for the boys.


He also made sure it came to the bedroom when it was time for a little reading.

It was the perfect book to read to the boys right before bed.


Lovely. I’m sure they had sweet dreams.

Thank you Andrew?

I will not be making him one of these again anytime soon if this is how he repays me.


And in honor of being a tease just once more, here’s my dessert from last night. This ice cream, this frozen frosting (both versions) and a couple Vitatops reappeared (since I’m trying to get a good ice cream post together and all).

    I loved dinosaur books when I was a kid… who am I kidding? I loved looking at those photos right now. LOL. Maybe you should make a version where the dinosaurs eat your soy green tea lattes… that would be cool! NOM NOM NOM.

    the GTL is my favorite at Starbucks too, iced, thank you. I make them at home all the time, and yes, they are amazing and delicious, but … different. I think if I added condensed milk they would be exact. oof. 😉

    Your food creations still put me at awe! I bought my first blender so that ice cream will be in full force starting this weekend when I move into my apartment. I actually had a trainer question for you, I have never really strength trained on my own. Now that I am moving and won’t be able to take the fitness classes I did, I want to keep up my upper body work. I hate not having upper body strength. What do you suggest doing to begin a routine? I was thinking live fit. Any other ideas?

      I don’t know much about those home programs. I’ve always been one to do my own thing. I’ve heard great things though about live fit. What other ones are you looking at?

    I totally agree, every minute counts when working out. Sometimes, I’ll only have 10 minutes and I’ll spend those wisely! Your ice cream looks delicious of course and so does your chinese brocc slaw! Love that idea! Haha, I love that dinosaur book, when I was younger I had a serious obsession with all things dinosaur, I had these glow in the dark dinosaur toys and my friends would make fun of me because I played with “boy toys”. Oh to be young again! I love your faux starbucks drink, I should try it since I have a serious addiction to starbucks!

    That stir fry looks amazing. I’ve got some asian spice blend from Wildtree that’s I’m itching to use up. Woodchips aside, I am so like you. I do squats and stretches at the microwave and I Always take the stairs. The little things do count.

    I don’t think I’ve ever ordered that drink at Starbucks but now I am intrigued! I love green tea, so I’ll have to try it. And with working out, a few minutes are better than nothing!

      Sue- I have a couple different ones. I have the basic running ones (can’t remember the style name) that are my favorite, but I also like the wonder under crop. I’m excited for you to get some when you return to the states! yay!!!!

    Iv never had one of those type of drinks before, iv never had a coffee at all actually- iv been on the fence about trying it for aaaaages(I want to try one of your fab looking creations!). The thing is , I’m a die hard diet coke addict, and I’m terrified of loving coffee too- I can’t have 2 caffeine crazy bad habits! Iv literally been mulling this over in my mind for about a year now:p. But YOU are really tempting me big time.

    Iv been psyched for this ice cream post- those pictures( actually all your food) are drool worthy- didn’t anyone ever tell you teasing( ESPECIALLY when withholding icecream amazingness) isn’t kind!?!?

    Since I am not a Starbucks girl and I happen to have a $10 gift card to Caribou …just wondering what exactly would I order at Caribou if I wanted to try and have them make the green tea drink from Starbucks that you love…..would you happen to know that? (I mean you know a lot so I just figured you would know that too…ha!)

    I bought Good Earth tea yesterday (thanks to your post about how good it is!) and we really enjoyed it! 🙂 It was getting very late last night, but I still wanted to go to the gym. We had to run by the pharmacy to pick up my husband’s rx before they closed (it was almost 10) and our gym closes at 11. I felt defeated that I wouldn’t have tons of time to do the elliptical + weights. i told my husband “let’s just go home after the pharmacy. It’s too late for the gym.” (Insert sad face) He said “Nah, let’s at least just go and do weights!” So I said OK. And we did. Yay! Then since the gym was so, so empty, I tried out every machine I’ve never used before (stair climber, some machine that looks like you’re climbing a rock wall and some others.) It was so much fun! So glad we went 🙂 And yes, even if you only have x-minutes, it is worth it! And I really wanted to order a pizza last night, but I made dinner instead. Not the best meal ever–some mac and cheese, green beans, baked fries and chickenless nuggets from Trader Joe’s–but if we ordered pizza, I knew we’d eat the whole thing and that would be bad. So yay!

    Breakfast this morning and it was flipping fantastic! I followed the recipe aside from

    I can’t thank you enough for posting your meal ideas. I’m not very good in the kitchen and am always looking for new foods to eat. Today for lunch I made broccoli slaw stir fry with soy sauce and enchilada sauce from Trader Joe’s. It was delicious!! I would have never thought to make this without you.

    I fit in a little bit of exercise whenever I can. I get bored if I have to sit for too long (I have a job where I have to stare at the computer screen for hours at a time) and lately I’ve been getting up and doing your upper body resistance moves while working and it makes me feel SO GOOD!
