Summer Priorities

Summer Priorities

Every once in awhile I have a day that I’m really proud of. To be totally honest, it isn’t that often. I think that’s pretty normal though for a lot of us moms. Whether it’s mommy guilt, realizing I never returned emails, didn’t tackle my piles of papers that need to be organized, didn’t cook the healthy dinner for the family that I should of, spent way too much money that we don’t have at Costco, etc., frequently I go to bed at night thinking how the next day I’m going to try to do things differently and prioritize a bit better.

Friends, I need to be straight with you. I inconvenience a lot of people a lot of the time. STUFT Daddy is a saint for putting up with all my shenanigans.

Every time I make that drive up to LA to hang with my best friend Bob I feel guilty. I feel bad for leaving my boys all day, leaving my mommy duties behind, spending all that gas money and time stuck in LA traffic and for whomever I suckered into watching the boys for hours. It’s not nice of me and I owe a lot of people some babysitting hours.

Not to mention my racing schedule is bananas and it’s my own selfishness and love for the sport that make it that way. I really need to start winning some money to make it legit or find some serious sponsors that can get me to Boston. Ha.

Getting my priorities straight is one of my main goals this summer. I’m going to start saying “no” a little more often and not trying to do everything. I’m going to put family first, no matter what.

That being said, yesterday was my first official day of summer from my PE teaching job. (Yes, I’m a PE teacher one day a week. Just one of my bazillion jobs.)

The boys and I lived it up.

It’s a rare occurrence when I don’t have my whole day planned out by the minute. Speaking of rare occurrences did you see the transit of Venus the other day? We got a quick peak while at the local farmer’s market.

How cool is that?

Anyway, back to yesterday.

I wanted to go to the gym. I didn’t make it there.

STUFT Daddy and I were supposed to go to a party last night. We didn’t make it there either.

the boys and I DID have the best day ever.

It was filled with spur of the moment decisions, smiles, pizza, boat rides, laughs, new friends, ice cream and pure joy.

It was one of my favorite days.

It was the perfect day to officially start off summer and live my priorities. (I’m trying to take a lesson from my friend MizFit.)

And without further due, I’m going to do a little photo dump of our perfect day. I’m realize I’m getting worse at my blogging, but really good at these photo dumps. Ha ha.

It started a little something like this.

Mighty Green Microwave Muffin (made Coach’s style with pancake mix) for the boys.

Mean Green French Toast for me. I used a Vitabun in there as my bread and topped it with Razzle Dazzle, SunButter, sugar free maple syrup

and some strawberries.

I had an iced mocha with sugar free almond syrup on the side.

After lunch we had a meeting with our friend Emily from Chobani. Since the boys are obsessed with Chobani Champions yogurt, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to make some cool signs

(nice coloring job, huh?)

and meet our friend in person. Naturally, right when we met up with her we made a caffeine stop and I had to introduce her to my favorite Starbucks drink.

Then we went to the coolest ice cream place around.

The boys were in love with her immediately. They were also in love with the big boy ice cream

and the cones.

After our little meeting we made a spur of the moment decision to explore downtown a little bit instead of deal with traffic.

Best decision ever.

One plus about wearing workout clothes everywhere and keeping my running shoes and stroller in the car is that we can go for a little jog just about anywhere.

Our little jog just happen to take us here.

Which led us here.

After our quick ferry trip to Coronado we hit up a little spot for a jogging snack.

We only had one minor major meltdown because someone wasn’t happy his pizza slice kept folding over.

He recovered and was excited about the seaweed snack “dessert”.

We live in a pretty darn cool pace.

After 4 or so stroller miles we headed back.

It was a good day.

It was a great day.

That ended a little something like this

and this.

I may not have made it to the gym, touched the laundry or made dinner, but it was the perfect day.

I know I have a lot of recent comments to respond to. It’s on my list. I’ll get to it, but it might take me a bit.

For now, I’m focusing on living my priorities. Hope you get to do the same!

My little tip for the summer….

Leave your shoes in the car.

If a chance presents itself to put them on and explore, take advantage of it.

You’ll be so glad you did.

Looks like a great day 🙂 I always wonder how you do it all….good for you to just say no a little more often!
Just don’t say no to my request for you to tell us about your workouts so I can have arms like yours 😉

    Have a great weekend!

Aw, that’s beautiful! What a great day! I’m not in any of your positions but I can only imagine how hard it is to be so busy, have so many hobbies AND have a family….and Flat Kitty needing you to get the eye goop out! But seriously, we all do the best we can with what we have, it’s never perfect, but it’s real.

Aww, you and your boys are SO gorgeous, and what a fab day out! I have such awesome memories and photos of days like this from when I was young- you are making these special memories!

The 1st bit of this post killed me a little bit though- there is.no.such.thing as The Perfect mother. Anyone who’s read your blog and watched your videos will find it very obvious just how much you care for & cherish Judah & Joaquin:). I know ,I know, I know- not everything makes it on the blog. But you ARE allowed to chase your own dreams & have your own life , as well as being mom. Worry less Kristen, you are doing a GRANDE job.

As far as the gym goes, it will always be there. But these young years of the boys will not be. So good call nixing it today:)!!

Sarah- You are way too nice. I know there is no such things as a perfect mother, but man I really have made things difficult on a lot of people lately with some of my choices and stuff. 🙂 I’m getting it together though. Thanks for saying that I’m allowed to chase my own dreams though. It’s nice to hear that instead of feeling guilty for doign so. 🙂 Thanks so much! Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

Everyone goes through the moments where they need to step back and really realize what’s important. It’s all about balance and really figuring out what’s best for not only you but your family. Because they are a huge part of you as well! I have full faith you’ll find that balance. Just remember to take a step back, breathe and enjoy life! Those emails can wait, so can the papers, but the boys can’t!

Perfect, I say the same thing everyday to myself too, im going to focus less on me and more on having fun with the kids. Lately I’ve been going outside and playing soccer with Judah, great way for me tomburn some calories while bonding with him 🙂 both happy! I’m sure you’ll get to that Boston marathon someday, I live in PA, you can stay at my house, ha but it’s still a long drive to MA! Love that place!

I was totally thinking the same thing. I was burning just as many calories hanging with my boys pushing that darn heavy stoller than I would’ve if I was at the gym. Ha. Everyone was happy! Yay for you and Judah playing soccer!!!!

Oh my gosh you know my life!!! We did the same thing the other day and just said screw it, we are not touching anything around the house, we are getting out of here. We had an amazing day and it left us all feeling so much more rejuvenated! I needed to get to the gym today too, but instead, I played in the kitchen (while telling myself I was really scrubbing it). I had the best time just being me for a minute. I’m so glad you had a great day with your boys!

This post made me cry! I feel the exact same way. I hate that I have to drag my daughter the the gym almost everyday and sometimes more than once when I would really like to just sit and play with her. I love days like the one you guys had and I hope you can have more of them!!!!!

      STUFT Mama says:

Oh Sarah- I hope you get to have more of them too. It was such a blessing and the opportunity doesn’t happen that often for us. It was such a great feeling going to bed at night feeling I did exactly what I should of done (which is rare). PS- I was super excited to see a comment from you! 🙂 Hope you and your cute little lady are doing well!

Love these days. They are the best. Here’s to many more this summer!

  21. 21

YES YES YES!! Being a wife and mom are my first calling. If I’m neglecting those areas, I feel antsy, ashamed and selfish. Enjoy these days! Not just for the summer!

I always appreciate how real you are– squeezing everything in is TOUGH! And I struggle with balancing all those priorities, too. So glad to hear things will lighten a bit over the summer, and that you had a perfect day off with the boys! That folded pizza meltdown cracked me up. I can relate… moms definitely need a sense of humor to get through the 2’s and 3’s… and probably far beyond. 🙂
