Thursday Three and The Better Freaking Chip Giveaway

Thursday Three and The Better Freaking Chip Giveaway

I know, right? Finally. I always get distracted. I mean to write these posts to just give you some stuff, but then I get selfish and start talking about my life and never get to what’s for you.

I promise to just show you a few highlights from Wednesday before the giveaway. Let’s do three only. Thursday Three.

Sounds good, yes?

I tried really hard to unplug the majority of the day yesterday. Social media gets way too overwhelming and takes away from time that I need to be giving the boys my full attention. Not to mention it makes my head a bit bonkers sometimes.

I did a 10 mile run at the gym mid morning. It was the first 10 miler since the marathon and didn’t feel too shabby thank goodness. I was starving the minute I stepped off the darn treadmill though. I was hoping the boys would be all about just going home and eating a huge lunch with mommy. I was wrong.

I had made the mistake of telling them that we could go check out a new park after the gym. As much as I talked up eating lunch at home and hanging out in our own backyard, they just were not having it.

we went to a cool new park.

We also played a little Red Light, Green Light later in the day, but I’m not sure they really got the whole concept.

My friend Michelle was kind enough to tweet about this post that mentions STUFT Mama.

Yay! So fun. I’m honored. (And it talks about my best friend Bob, which reminds me I never posted about my most recent Team Bob workout taping last week. I better get on that.)

I also tried really hard to not take any pictures of food all day. I made it until about 2 pm when I finally got to sit down and scarf some lunch. I just can’t help myself sometimes.

Pumpkin protein cookie dough mixed with SunButter and topped with a little protein powder/coconut flour “frosting” concoction with Flatout cinnamon crisps and blueberries.

And well, I’m sure you could have guessed what I was going to have for dinner, but I’ll show you anyway. I took that same zucchini idea from the previous night and made it broccoli slaw BBQ bake style.

I needed to try out these jalapeños STUFT Daddy planted for me. (He also planted Serrano chilies and ghost peppers, but those aren’t ready yet.)

Random side note- I don’t think they’re quite ready yet, but I have no idea how to tell when jalapeños are ready. If you have any tips to tricks feel free to send them my way.

I prepared the zucchini just like I did my roasted zucchini noodles the night before, only I changed up the seasoning a bit. I used garlic powder, garlic salt, ghost pepper salt, paprika, Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning, cayenne pepper and crushed red pepper.

20 or so minutes in the oven at 375 convection.

Oh yes. Who needs broccoli slaw?

I topped it with Costco rotisserie chicken, Scotty B’s Arch Nemesis hot sauce, BBQ sauce and a little low fat ranch.

Mmmmmm hmmm….

And well, I may be able to hold off on buying broccoli slaw for a few more days, but thanks to Kristi, now I really want to get my hands on a spiralizer to make really cool zucchini noodles. She recommended this one and this one from Amazon, but the one of them is out of stock.

Let’s see, if I can withhold buying broccoli slaw for about 30 days (that would be a miracle friends), I could save just about enough money to buy one. Ha ha.

Okay. Done.

This is for you.

A Better Chip for you.

Part of last weekend was spent trying out some new chips to try that were sent to us by the people over at The Better Chip.

I don’t usually eat packaged foods because they wreak havoc on my tummy and I do not have good portion control when it comes to anything out of a bag, but I’m also never one to turn down free samples or the opportunity to give some free samples to you.

We were sent this cute little variety pack of the four tortilla chip flavors they have.

Not only did this come with chip samples, but it also came with a cool little tote bag

and a couple of cute shirts.

How awesome is that shirt? I’m not exactly sure what it means, but I love it. I do not love this photo though that looks like I’m pointing to my $30 miracle. (Obviously not sporting the same undergarments as my previous post.) And why yes, I am in fact wearing the same shorts I wore all throughout my twin pregnancy.

We got two bags of each of the flavors (jalapeño, fresh corn, red pepper and sweet onion).

I let the boys decide which one to try first. Naturally they picked this jalapeño one. I’ve taught them well.

We loved them.

We went for the red pepper ones next. They had a bit of kick to them also. We liked them too.

As in “we” I mean Judah and I.

My other taste tester got a little distracted with the dog water.

Since it’s only polite to give you a full review, we went for the sweet onion ones next.

I’m not a big onion chip fan, but these have a little white cheddar flavor in them and I liked them more than I thought I would.

I have to disclose the fact that I probably only ate about 1-2 chips of each flavor to be able to give you an honest review. My body does not do the packaged foods stuff well, so I have to make a lot of my own “chips” and “crisps” around here.

Hey look, there’s a chip on my shoulder.

Ha ha ha.

I put this little chip variety out for our dinner gathering we had over the weekend to try to be cool.

I made everyone sample them and the vote was that the red pepper ones (on the right) were the best.

Okay, now for YOU.

Here’s what one lucky STUFT reader will get:

The same sampler pack that I received (2 bags of each of the four flavors), 2 cool shirts (hey, we can be twins) and a trucker hat (they’re running low on the tote bags).

Pretty cool package if you ask me though.

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment here answering one of the following questions:

How do you know when jalapeños are ready to pick?

Do you have a spiralizer? If so, which one and would you recommend it?

What’s your favorite chip or chip flavor?

(Random. I know.)

Feel free to tweet about the giveaway for an additional entry and leave a comment here telling me you did. Say whatever you want (that’s appropriate), just make sure to mention @stuftmama and the link to this post.

*This giveaway will be open until Sunday morning at 6 am PST. Open to US residents only.

Don’t forget to send me some fun Flat Kitty pictures for the Flat Kitty Friday photo dump tomorrow. Darn it, I better get on that too. I haven’t taken any yet. Eeek.

Have a good one!

    Rhonda says:

Very cool t-shirt! I don’t know what it means either but I agree- I’d wear it and feel awesome.

I plant jalapenos every summer. I pick them when they grow to be jalapeno-shaped. It seems like as they grow they are round on the bottom and then suddenly they get a little bit pointed and then I eat them. It’s a very un-scientific method but they are always delicious so that’s what I’m going with!

We like onion flavored chips around here. It’s a good thing we all like them so nobody has to be offended by all the onion breath. 😉

Well, thank goodness for the random question b/c I would fail from the other two…..

    3. Aha! My favorite chip? A tortilla with a taste of LIME. ….. it just goes nicely with my hint of lime beer!

  10. 10

Oh those chips sound yummy! I usually let my jalapenos get maybe 2 inches long – think about the size you see them in the store. You can let them turn red, but I don’t think that changes the flavor or heat level. I’m jealous, my plants only have a few jalapenos on them.

  37. 37
    Joy says:

Oh my goodness, you made me laugh with the chip on your shoulder joke!! We have the same sense of humor it seems because that photo is something I would send around to all my family and friends.

My favorite kind of chip lately is Trader Joes Popped Potato Chips in the salt flavor. YUM!

I’ve never even heard of a spiralizer before and my thumb isn’t very green so I’m no help with the jalepenos.

Thanks for the chance to win!

    Danielle says:

These chips look so good! My sister has a spiralizer that I think is kitchenaid, and it’s soo useful! Especially for things like zucchini noodles for a broccoli slaw bake 🙂

  46. 46

We pick our jalapeños once they turn a darkish green colour and look like the ones you would buy in the store. My husband loves the hot peppers too and buys way too many! He pickles them and dehydrates them at the end of the summer. He takes the dehydrated ones and grinds them in an old coffee grinder to make his own crushed peppers – I think it would be right up your alley! But be warned, thy are much more potent than the store-bought stuff, and whatever you do don’t sniff them 🙂

  47. 47
    Cathy says:

My favorite chip flavor is plain kettle chips.

  48. 48
    Angela says:

Geez, you made these questions hard for me, lol 😉
    1) I kill just about anything I plant, so I would have no idea how to advise you on that one…
    2) I am not cool enough to have a spiralizer…
    3) Now chips, i can talk about chips 😉 i make a lot of my own, too. but i LOVE Popchips! any of their flavors are good! those chips do not last very long in our house.

i would love to be shirt twins with you 🙂

Jalepeno chips of most brands are my favorite. I, too, love some spice in my life. Although, enjoying the BBQ Serrano chili last Sunday, no way I can keep up with you. By the way, even with your crazy busy weekend, you managed to be an amazing host!

I love all chips. Love em. but a healthier chip would be better 🙂

  55. 55
    Samantha says:

Hum…I might need a $30 miracle. But yes, unfortunate pointing…LOL. Depending how you look at it.

Anyway, I probably would say salt and vinegar in flavor. Which by the way is a fabulous combo on garbanzos which you then bake in the oven.

I made the pumpkin protein “dip” (about halfway through eating it with a spoon I realized technically I was supposed to use it as a dip…oh well) for the first time yesterday…plus the flat apple cookie thing which I was so lazy I microwaved and it still was fabulous. The pumpkin stuff should come with a warning however. Who knew a 1/2 can of pumpkin + everything else when all is said and done could be so amazing and so shockingly filling?!

    • 55.1
      STUFT Mama says:

The one that I call a “dip” isn’t really a dip if that’s the one you made. I don’t know why I wrote that. Ha ha! Oh….. and I NEED to try roasting garbanzo beans. You just reminded me. 🙂

    Linda says:

First of all, I just started following your blog/website and love it! Your info on all your races/workouts are great! I’m running the Marine Corps Marathon in October and it will be my first full marathon. I work out with a trainer and can’t say enough about strength training and how it improves everything! I am so jealous of your workouts with Bob….love him!

To answer one of your questions, I too am not a big chip eater as it’s really tough when it comes to portion control. 🙂 That said, I think Mediterranean Snacks Lentil Chips are really good. They are relatively “clean” and have 4 grams of protein a serving and are relatively low in sodium for a chip and not through the roof on carbs.

    • 56.1
      STUFT Mama says:

I might have to check out those chips. 🙂 I’m excited for you and your first marathon! Where is it? And yes…. strength training improves EVERYTHING. I wish everyone knew that. 🙂

      • Linda says:

It starts in Arlington, VA, goes through Georgetown and all the historic places in DC. My friend told me it is a relatively flat course and perfect for first time marathoners. It also sold all 30,000 (yikes!) spots out in 2 hours and 41 minutes, what they say is the fastest sellout in the history of marathons.

  57. 57

How do you know when jalapeños are ready to pick? They scream “I’M READY!”

Do you have a spiralizer? If so, which one and would you recommend it? I don’t have one. Insert sad face. If I did, I would make sweet potato fries with it.

What’s your favorite chip or chip flavor? I love salt and pepper chips. If not, then classic BBQ.

  58. 58

    Here is my tweet: https://twitter.com/PavementRunner/status/213315047592697856

My favorite chip flavor for the last couple years have been jalapeño. Which is funny, since I don’t like spicy food at all.

I have a jalapeño plant too with one baby on it and I was just wondering how will I know it’s ready…

I don’t have a spiralizer, but I was thinking about getting one soon! I used to use them for decoration on platters when I worked in catering, but sadly, it was not mine to take when I left. It should have been my parting gift!

I just tried plentils for the first time and love them! They are light airy and crispy!

    Terry says:

I laughed when you asked how to tell when jalapenos are ready – because I have no idea! The decision on whether or not pick them has always been based solely on what I needed to complete recipes. I’ve used every size from very small to very large, and you know what? they’ve all been delicious because they came from very own garden! 🙂

  80. 80
    Patty Fischer says:

Jalapeno: Start picking when they become a deep, dark green and are full-sized according to the variety description. Most are around 3 inches long at maturity. Some varieties display corking starting at early maturity and that’s a great indicator that they’re ready to pick for pickling. Ripening jalapenos will cycle from green to darker green, brownish-red or blackish red (depending on variety), then red. Red jalapenos have a wonderfully sweet/hot taste, but are less crisp in texture.

Honestly, I love plain tortilla chips. Especially RW Garcia organic chips, AMAZING. But I tried these new-to-me Green Mojo chips by Late July and they were delicious. I’d love to try these chips, thanks for the giveaway!

    1. 75-90 days from harvesting and closer to 3″ if that makes it more “scientific” The larger they grow, the hotter they are. But not too long, otherwise they lose their crispyness
    2. Want a spiralizer, but alas, there are already too many gadgets in too small of a kitchen and my coffee goods aren’t going anywhere. I hear the Joyce Chen is actually pretty good for being on the cheap 🙂
    3. Chipotle, Jalapeno, any spicy chip is my friend. But I’m not really a big fan of chips. Mostly. I love http://www.foodshouldtastegood.com/ – they call them tortilla chips, but also crackers! I could probably live off the multi-grain, but they have jalapeno, the works (just like everything bagels), and even chocolate! Gluten free, lactose free, so my weird stomach isn’t an issue.

Great giveaway, and love your blog/tweets!!! 😉

Not sure if you already found your answer, but you pick them when you see small stress stripes on the surface. That is when they are perfect.
