Office Hours

Office Hours

Oh man, I’m working on a big post friends. I’m talking HUGE. It has something to do with my favorite running shoes.

Here’s a little preview of something that just may be in your future.

my attempt to have it ready in the early hours of the morning today didn’t go over too well. My attempt to respond to emails and comments from you didn’t go over so well either. Oops.

I have been staying up way too late and not getting enough sleep. I would really give just about anything to have a few more hours in the day. Wouldn’t that be great?

Yesterday’s workout was a 7 1/2 mile treadmill run at the gym. I had planned on doing a longer run just in case I can pull off getting to The San Francisco Marathon next month, but my body and my tummy weren’t really cooperating. I’m blaming the lack of sleep.

It also might help if I actually got to the gym on time instead of barely giving myself enough time before the play care closes. I’m totally that lady who picks her boys up right at closing time (1 pm for lunch break). Thank goodness I work there and they seem to like me enough. Ha.

Side note- Kitty is back up on the dang stove this morning. Yes, again. I wish he’d make himself useful and make me some espresso or something.

Or clean his eye boogers. That would be a start.

Yesterday I tried a new sugar free jam on my breakfast STUFTwich.

Kitty tried a new pretty impressive trick.

After the gym, the boys and I made a stop to pick up a few packages. Wouldn’t you know our mailbox is right next door to a cute local market.

Yes, they insisted on bringing the dump truck and “John Deer” with us.

We got STUFT Daddy a sandwich just like we did the other week with Flat Kitty.

The only other thing we “needed” was milk.

Here’s what other things somehow got in our cart.

Butter extract for low calorie ice cream (I usually use Vanilla Butter and Nut, but I couldn’t find it) and a new jam to try on my breakfast STUFTwich.

Liquid aminos. I just read a good recipe somewhere about this and the benefits of using it, but I can’t remember where. Does anyone use them? Oh and yeah, nutritional yeast, oops, I mean “nooch” (I’m trying to be cool) is back in the house. I’ve been subbing in brewer’s yeast like I did here, but sometimes you just need that “cheese” flavor rather than the “nutty” one.

And well, sometimes you just want to be able to say that you’ve got “nooch” up in the house. Ha ha.

Since I know you’re dying to see the packages we picked up I’ll show you.

One was from Mizuno. Yes. More to come in my next post. My HUGE post.

Good Earth Tea also sent me some tea to sample.

I want to sample pretty much every tea they have since I’m in love with their original sweet and spicy and make this tea drink almost every day. I was sent this chai one to try. Too bad it’s not the caffeinated one. Ha.

I also got a very special package from cute Brittany.

Holy smokes I am soooooo excited to try this. Thanks Brittany!

Lunch for the boys yesterday (in case you care) was veggie burgers, a Flatout wrap with cheese (both made in the microwave because I’m just that great sometimes) and apple slices.

I had this summer surprise cookie dough dip for the third day in a row.

I topped it with peanut butter and Better N Peanut Butter and ate it with apple slices and cinnamon crisps.

I even attempted to eat it outside,

but Joaquin’s attempt to drink dirty dog water put a wrench in my plan.

Maybe consuming this dough in massive amounts is the reason for some of my tummy issues the past few days.

Or maybe it was my dinner last night (again, the same dinner I’ve had the past three nights).

Last night I was back to my usual cheese less sandwich though (no brewer’s yeast substitution).

I burned everything yet again.

I posted this picture on instagram last night because I like to show off my roasting skills.

And thanks to twitter and my friend Christine

I’m officially starting a new trend with my nightly serving of “blackened veggies” (roasted zucchini noodles, roasted broccoli, whatever). I wonder if it will catch on.

Dessert was a little three ingredient fudge topped with low calorie ice cream.

Have you tried this yet?

So.. on to office hours.

This is my morning office.

I like to look out the window in the morning in my few minutes of quite time I have before the boys get up.

My night time office is either this one

or this one.

I left my full time job as a PE teacher to be a mom. To be with my boys. Some Most days though I find myself “working” way more than I should be and not giving my boys (or STUFT Daddy or the laundry) the time and attention they need and deserve.

I struggle a lot with when to find time to “work” and when to just be in the moment throughout the day. If anyone has mastered juggling the whole time thing, please let me know.

My new plan is to have designated “office hours”.

1-2 hours early morning before our crazy day starts.

1-2 hours in the afternoon when the boys nap.

1-2 hours at night after everyone’s asleep.

Totally seems doable, yes? Those late night hours are tricky though. They tend to stretch out and I find myself still up past midnight so I’m going to work on that.

So…..  if I’m late responding to emails, comments or my posts are just darn boring, it’s because things just got a little out of hand outside of my “office hours”, I’m putting family first and/or I’m finally getting to bed at a decent time.

Thanks so much for putting up with me. I appreciate each and every one of you and your comments even though I don’t always respond in a timely manner.

For now, my morning  “office hours” are over.

These guys need my full attention.

*Check out these Fit Links from the fabulous Fit Bottomed Girls. This mama made it on the list. Yay!

*And.. check out this summer fitness challenge featuring yours truly for a chance to win a B.O.B. jogging stroller, a Schwinn bike trailer, a week of Strollerstride classes and more. Pretty cool!!!

I hear ya, time management is hard with kids, work, house work…I just crammed my lunch down my throat while reading your post before I have to leave to train a client. I am really working on getting in the right mindset to get myself on a better schedule. I feel like I’m all over the place and that is not a good place to be! Good luck with your time management. Oh and I’m loving the idea of calling it blackened broccoli! Sounds fancy for our love of burned goods!

Oh man… we are so the same person. I can NOT get on a schedule and am all over the place. We should help each other out. Hope you find a way to get a schedule that works. 🙂

You got my attention with the pictures of the running shoes! ;D Can I also move in and eat all your food? It always looks so delicious! How has your stomach problems been? I pretty much have IBS and have thought about dairy being the culprit, but I feel like I can never cut out Greek yogurt or cottage cheese. Enjoy your time with the boys! Life can be super hectic somtimes! 🙂

      STUFT Mama says:

My stomach has been sooooo much better since cutting out dairy. It still acts up here and there, but I’m not sure what else causes it. Hope your tummy feels better. Aren’t stomach problems the worst?

    Jennifer Mykytiuk says:

I like your recipe of blackened veggies! And I don’t think that is burned. It’s just crispy. That is how I like ’em! My husband isn’t allowing me to roast my veggies in the house anymore because it is too hot, so he has volunteered to roast them on the grill. Two weeks in a row- they are really burned! I mean so bad I can’t stand to eat them” blackened”. Hoping he figures it out soon or I am out of luck! Can’t wait for your big post!

You are going to love the liquid aminos! I love that it’s in a spray bottle so I can just spray it on my salads as dressing, or over veggies as I’m sauteing them. It’s also good mixed with PB flour, sriracha, and a little almond milk for a spicy thai sauce. 🙂

Good morning! Loved the latest video especially with low impact option while getting my ankle back. It is amazing how a little video can be so motivating!

Kitty in the glass cracked me up.

My stomach has been a pain as well. Sometimes I don’t even know what or why it is sick, although I do think stress plays a huge role and maybe you are feeling out of balance right now.

    Have a great day!

      Samantha says:

PS. I liked your 3 ingredient fudge option. Like you, I could eat the chocolate covered katie version pretty much in a sitting so it is nice to have another approach!

    • 5.2
      STUFT Mama says:

Oh yes… stress. I forget how much that affects everything also. That must be my problem lately. Hope your ankle feels better soon.

      • Samantha says:

I always carry my stress in my gut. It seems like you have a lot of great things going on, but you also have a lot going on and a lot you are trying to do.

Ankle is slowly getting better. And “low impact” frogs are still quite effective!

Elise The HungrHungryHippie , and I LOVE braggs! I think you’re gonna love it too- you can make fab salad dressings with it.
I just made your summer cookie dough dip. I’m(trying) to save it for later tonight- I can hardly contain myself:)!
I’m seriously in love with all your food.

Good luck with your work/life balance plan. I could save you the trouble of writing the BIG post- and you could just send the Mizunos to me. I NEED new kicks!

Nothing wrong with setting some hours mama! I so need to practice the “In the moment” thing too! 🙂

  9. 9

I use aminos ALL THE TIME. Any recipe that calls for soy sauce, I sub aminos. They are liquid protein and way better than all the sodium in soy sauce. You’ll see it in several of my recipes: Walnut-crusted tofu, spicy kale salad, and Spicy Sweet SooFoo: http://betterwithveggies.com/recipes/?search_term=amino&ui=1203

      STUFT Mama says:

Maybe that’s where I saw it recently!!! I couldn’t remember. I do remember your tofu now though. Thanks Heather!! I can’t wait to try out your recipes!!!! Yay!!!!

Your low cal ice-cream is on my “to do” list:) What are your fav items to order from Vitalicious? Thinking of placing an order.

  12. 12

Aminos rocks and way to get back on the nooch!

I like your designated office hours. I need to implement that because things have gotten a little crazy here and I need to remind myself that my 2 munchkins and big guy need my attention more than my bloggy blog (as you would say). 😉

    Liz says:

Looks like you got the best packages! Your shoes are awesome and Good Earth tea is my fave (I buy it in bulk at Costco during the winter since they don’t always carry it). Let me know how the Chai is! Love the flat kitty pic and your designated office hours, you are so great at balancing everything! Hope to be back at jam soon! 🙂

  14. 14

yahoo! i didn’t get the virus thingy today. 🙂 that peach preserves sounds tasty! i’m going to snag that one when i run out of my blackberry jar. i like your office hours plan my friend. good for you! 🙂 xoxo

  15. 15

I’m kind of a fan of blackened veggies 😉 That jam sounds delish. Love anything spicy.

    Get some rest, already! 🙂

Just wanted to let you know that I finally made your Green Goblin Muffins (added 2 scoops unflavored protein powder to the batter) and they turned out GREAT!

Also, I just made your STUFT Protein Cookie, topped it with your 3 Minute Fudge, and froze for a bit…….defreakinglicious!

What is with Kitty on the stove?? And with his head in the glass? Gosh I love it so much. Our cat keeps sleeping in the wheelbarrel and will not go near her comfy bed. She is a seriously weird cat actually. Maybe her and Kitty would get along. Her name is Abby, short for abandoned because she was left at a shelter. ha.
The office hours plan sounds good! Please get some sleep! Everything will be easier to handle with more rest. I would seriously babysit for you if I could.

    • 17.1
      STUFT Mama says:

I like that “Abby”. I bet her and Kitty would be great pals. Heck ,if you were here we’d be busy making goo and watching our favorite TV shows, you wouldn’t have time to babysit.

    Jessica Jones says:

I think I know what your mizuno post is about and I’m really excited!

  19. 19
    Joy says:

That photo of Kitty in the glass is priceless. One of my cats is crazy for any kind of dairy and he’ll go to lengths to get some milk, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen him go to those lengths…impressive. 🙂

Your day sounds so jam-packed and I give you so much credit for even thinking about office hours after the kids to to bed. To me you are superwoman.

  20. 20

Love those aminos… and well, really, and Bragg’s products. They are just so darn good!

Way to go on setting up office hours and trying to find some balance! We are just lucky to get to hear your words, recipes, fitness tips, and fun stories whenever they fit your schedule… focus on your family Mama, they are 100X more important than us 🙂

    • 20.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Bragg’s does have some pretty good products. 🙂 Jessica- you are way too nice. The fact that I subject you all to my crazies is just silly. But… YOU all inspire and keep me going every day. So you ARE important. 🙂

  21. 21
    Lisa says:

Haha kitty is awesome! I wish my cat could make me espresso too! Wouldn’t that just be awesome. I kind of like the fact that spice is called slap ya mama…hahaha, too cool. I think your blackened veggies will catch on, especially since mine always turn out like that. I don’t know how it happens?! but it always does. I totally get the tummy troubles from the mass amounts of veggies I consume, but I don’t care, they are too delicious to give up and if I don’t eat voluminous style I get hungry like 5 minutes later. That picture of the boys is amazing! How cute are they cheers-ing there sippy cups!! I think your new office approach sounds awesome! Definitely most important thing is the fam! And never apologize for not posting enough or anything! You are seriously busy lady!! I would volunteer to babysit for you if we lived in the same area! Too bad

    • 21.1
      STUFT Mama says:

I hear you on dealing with the tummy troubles in return for eating massive amounts of veggies. I can’t give up my big bowls of burnt veggies. LOL.Thanks for all your kinds words Lisa.

    Susan says:

I use the Braggs as a soy sauce replacement on veggies, stir-frys etc. And fitting *anything* else in while being a mom and working is extremely tough — and boundaries are essential. (Note to self: why am I looking at blogs in the middle of the day when should be working?).

    Erin says:

Kitty cracks me up every time! He’s just so surreal looking. Maybe he’s chilly without fur and is trying to warm up on the stove. 🙂

I can’t wait to try that Good Earth tea. Looks yummy! I love their original iced. I’ll need to make a batch.

I haven’t used the aminos in a while but they were really good on a salad with sliced cucumbers and tomatoes.

Good luck with the office hours! You deserve to take a breather — if being a wife and mom to twins can be called that! 😉

Hi! I have been reading your blog for a while now and i love it!!! i love those mizuno shoes you have there! i too am a runner (and a mommy!), and recently have been struggling with shin splints.. do you ever get them, and if so, how do you work them out?? i have been using the compression socks and just bought a new pair of asics gels. i appreciate your input!!! Your boys and kitty are adorable!

    • 28.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Caitlin- Oh man, I’m so sorry you have shin splints. I wish I knew more about them. I have never struggled with them myself so when I come across articles that talk about them I usually don’t pay much attention. I would say to make sure you have the right shoes for your running. I take my old ones in and have them check out how they wear out to make sure I have the right support/etc. I didn’t like gels either so I’m not much help there. I’ll keep my eyes open though to see if I find out any information on shin splints. Feel free to emial me too and I can try to help more. 🙂 Hope they start feeling better soon. Running mommies unite! 🙂

I’ve been struggling with this too!! I’ve been staying up way too late at night and not getting nearly enough sleep. I work as a freelance consultant (as my real job) so I often feel that if I have a free moment, I should be working and billing hours. That makes it really hard to be in the moment with my kids which is the whole reason that I chose the freelance route vs. the full-time job route. I love the idea of setting office hours. I think I’ll have to try this too!

    • 31.1
      STUFT Mama says:

I do the same thing with “office hours”- maybe an hour in the morning if I’m lucky, than 1-2 at nap and 1-2 after bedtime. I think it’s working pretty well… I definitely need to make myself get to bed earlier, I’ve been struggling with that, too.

  33. 33
    Sara says:

Good for you, Kristin! (With the office hours.) Good luck! You should sell your dips and cookie doughs. I’d buy some! 🙂 And, for me, Vitatops make me have tummy troubles if I eat too many. One time, I made the corn muffin vitamuffins (from their mix) and ate two for 20 g of fiber. I had no idea! Not to mention I had it with bean chili. Oops! It was not pretty. (Sorry if that was TMI.) And I made a Vitatop treat for myself the other night (trying to count calories and lose some weight) so I topped the Vitaop w/ Fat-Free Cool Whip and sprinkles! My husband wanted me to make him one too (and I did) but I was very defensive. Vitatops aren’t cheap, sir. 🙂

    • 33.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Sara- I totally think the Vitatops are to blame for my tummy issues in the morning. They have a lot of fiber and some weird sugar alcohols. Oh and there isn’t a thing as TMI over here. 😉 Ha ha!

I don’t even have kids yet and I am terrible at time management. I better work on that before children come into the picture huh? You’ll get the hang of it, I’m sure of that. Loving the photo of kitty in the glass it had my full on laughing at my desk. with coworkers looking at me funny.

  36. 36

I’m from Louisiana and my mom loves slap ya mama. My husband and I prefer Tony’s. Slap ya mama makes a salt free version if you are watching your sodium.

    Runner Mom says:

I am a mom of a 16 year that has been running for 5 years now. The boy lives to run. Besides being on cross country and track and field, he has participated in numerous 1/2 marathons. Now that he is 16 his goal this yea is a full marathon. I can always be heard screaming and cheering him on anywhere throughout the course. At the rate his feet are growing I can’t always afford to buy him new Mizuno’s. He has has 2 pairs in the past and loves them. He says the shoes support his feet the best. His school cross country team motto for other sports is: Your punishment is my sport! I just love that.
