Well we had enough “fireworks” around here last night, that we skipped out on actually watching them tonight. Ha. It also had to do with the fact that today was one activity after the other and we just couldn’t hang anymore.
The Coronado Independence Day 15K was this morning. I ran the same race last year with the boys (pushing the double stroller) and just read my blog post about it. Pretty funny. I’m not that good of a writer now and I was even worse back then. Awesome.
Anyway, here’s a quick recap for your entertainment.
After a few short hours of sleep I woke up with just 20 minutes to be race ready and out the door with Grandma D and Papap who were meeting at our house.
At least I gave myself time to take a few unflattering pictures and practice my finger aerobics.
In the bowl- 1/4 cup oats, 1/4 cup egg whites, 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, 2 teaspoons chia. I microwaved it for about 3-4 minutes or so and topped it with 1/2 banana too, but forgot to take a picture.
We only left 20 or so minutes late. As usual the car rice down to the race was pretty darn exciting.
I drank my iced perfect summer mocha and ate my breakfast. Oh wait, here’s a picture of it with banana while it sat on my crotch on the way down.
I decided to ditch the stroller and run by my lonesome. I had just enough time to get my race bib, ask a stranger to take my picture
and find the port a potty line.
And yes, in case you’re wondering I was wearing a diaper. I didn’t need it, but you never know people. The diaper got ditched at the port a potty.
I even made it to the starting line with 2 minutes to spare.
Just enough time to size up my competition
ask someone else to take my picture
and decide if I placed in the tope 3 that I would let myself order a spiralizer. I know, I really know how to make friends don’t I.
The race went well.
It was a flat and fast course and the weather was awesome.
I ran the whole thing with my iPhone in my Handful sports bra. Something has to fill that thing out.
I spent the first 3 or so miles trying to figure out if the person in front of me was a guy or a girl. I passed him about mile 4.
I didn’t feel like I was going to barf until mile 5. Score.
The best part of the course was running through the navy base on Coronado Island.
I had my vanilla bean GU at mile 6. I probably didn’t need it, but had it anyway.
The last three miles my main motivation was possibly getting to order a spiralizer and trying to figure out where I wanted to go to eat afterwards. Ha ha.
My day dreaming almost did the trick.
(The above picture was the unofficial race time posted at the event.)
I got 1:04:06. 4th place in my division. So darn close.
It was a PR for me though and my pace was a 6:53 mile, so I’ll take it.
Yes. Yes I will.
If God wants to give me the love for running and the ability to do it….
then I will do my best to make Him proud.
I found the family pretty quickly after I finished (thanks to Mom’s flailing arms) and remembered I never picked up my shirt. They only had size large left. Nice. I showed them by taking not just one Clif Crunch Bar sample from the table, but 6. That’ll teach them.
Then Judah informed me he wanted some “freebies”.
I think I’ve taught him well. We made our way to see what kind of goodies we could hoard.
There really wasn’t much for us. Some Naked Juice samples
and some Power Bar Energy Bites.
We did run into our new friend Lizzie with Honest Tea though and she gave us some pretty cool stickers.
We stalled just enough for Mom to hear that Dr. Andy Baldwin had finished the race (we never could find him though) and to meet a blogging mama buddy Corrina who also ran the 15K.
and to find out that they were giving awards for the top 5 in each division.
Um, yeah, I was 4th, so that meant me.
Obviously everyone cared.
At least they humored me a bit and accompanied me to get my trophy.
We finally packed up the family.
Whoa- watch your had sir.
On our pretty lengthy walk back to the car (that might be an understatement), we happen to run into Esther who was on some kind of Mizuno scavenger hunt.
She had to take pictures with her shoes with other Mizuno wearing runners. I’m always willing to help out a fellow Mizuno lover.
The boys love the Mickey Mouse pancakes.
I love the egg white veggie omelet with jalapeños.
I won’t even start to tell you everything else we did today (parade, party, etc.) and all the food I consumed. I’ve been a bottomless pit friends, like serious bottomless pit, and have not been dairy free. Oops.
Tomorrow might be a rough one.
Hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July!!!!!!!
