Dumps, Runs and Dough

stihl chainsaw deals

zombie chainsaw warrior Ha. You like that?

I actually wanted to title this “Dumps, THE Runs, and Dough”, but thought that might be a little much for a Monday morning.

Speaking of being a little much for a Monday morning, my 5:30 am alarm sounded a little something like this today:

“Kristin, Turk just barfed on the TV room carpet, but I’ve got to go to work.”

Mornings like that are the best, aren’t they?

Smile

After that I made my mocha in record time and tried out the new sugar free peanut butter syrup I got last week when I stocked up. Here what went into this morning’s iced mocha.

IMG_1760

Yep. It was okay. I still like my perfect summer mocha flavor combination better though.

IMG_1764IMG_1761

Looks like someone else has the case of the Mondays.

Ha.

I actually started this post yesterday afternoon, but a couple other things happened instead.

IMG_3317IMG_3319IMG_3322IMG_3316

That’s right, we take family rides together to work up an appetite.

Then we eat pizza in underwear outside.

IMG_3333IMG_3331

Don’t worry, STUFT Daddy and I were appropriately dressed (and drinking my favorite wine).

All of that fun was shortly followed by this.

IMG_3335

A little low calorie ice cream with some frozen frosting and a mess of other things underneath. There’s something really fun about eating dessert in bed, isn’t there?

Smile

This past weekend was a whirlwind. I went to the IDEA World Fitness Convention here in San Diego all freaking weekend. It was so fun, yet so exhausting.

I missed my boys. I missed STUFT Daddy. I missed you all.

Smile

I’m about .05 percent sure that you might have missed me too so I’ll give you that new protein cookie dough recipe I’ve been promising at the end of this post.

Oh man do I want to photo dump on you all about the entire weekend. I learned so many new things, met some great people and found some really cool stuff at the expo. I’ll spare you seeing it all at once though (and my brain can’t think straight right now anyway). I will let you know that I have A LOT of things to be giving away to you all this week. Like A LOT. I tried to use the few people skills I have to get you all some fun stuff at the expo.

Smile

This is going to be a good week friends in STUFT Mama blog land.

You’re welcome.

I won’t dump all my expo finds on you right now, but I will show you one of my favorite purchases.

IMG_3260

Ha ha. How awesome is that? I ordered 2 ginormous jugs of this stuff and they’ll be shipping it to me today. I wanted to buy some when I first spotted it at the marathon expo last month. I better not get sick of my egg whites anytime soon. I have a feeling I’ll be making a lot of breakfast STUFTwiches and just a few high protein dark chocolate muffin.

IMG_3259

Look how pretty Ande who sold me my egg whites is. I should’ve asked her if she gave out free beauty advice with a minimum purchase. He he. Silly me I forgot to order the cool pump. Maybe I’ll contact them and see if they can throw one in for me. I mean, that pump is a must have right?

Can’t wait until my Egg Whites International get here.

Smile

Yesterday was day 3 of the conference. I was up at 5:30 to make it to my first session. I shoveled in my breakfast on the way down there and felt like taking a picture of it sitting on my lap.

photo

I also felt like taking a picture of my spinning outfit while I was in the bathroom.

IMG_3273

Who is that weirdo?

The session yesterday was a tabata spinning session with Mindy Mylrea.

IMG_3274

We did tabatas on the spin bikes and tabatas on the floor next to the bike with some Gliding Discs.

IMG_3281

Interesante. I kind of faked my way through because I was going to go for long run afterwards.

But… I will be implementing some tabatas on the bike into my spin class today. I’m sure that will go over well. He he.

I skipped out on my last two sessions to go for a run while I had the opportunity.

So…..

the run.

I got really nervous the other night about the San Francisco Marathon coming up in three short weeks. I hadn’t done a long run since the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and wasn’t sure I’d be able to handle it.

Yesterday was my test run. I wasn’t too excited to run 20 miles after such a long weekend, but it was my only chance.

I fueled up with a quick Clif MOJO bar snack in the car while getting all my gear ready.

IMG_3287

Then I set out to run around downtown San Diego.

IMG_3288IMG_3289

I didn’t really have a plan. I just decided to run in one direction for 10 miles and then turn around.

At mile 8 I stopped to refill my water and drop in a little Nuun tablet.

IMG_3291

Here’s a closer look at my fuel belt and my T. rex arm.

IMG_3293

See. Twinsies.

[source]

And no, I wasn’t wearing my Handful sports bra pads because they were dirty darn it (yes, all 4 sets).

That didn’t stop me from using my normal carrying case for my GU though.

IMG_3295

I stopped for the Peanut Butter GU about mile 12.

IMG_3298

Um yeah, peanut butter GU is pretty fantastic (so is the vanilla flavor).

What crappy scenery for my run.

IMG_3301

Ha ha.

After listening to 4 Jillian Michaels’ podcasts I had completed 20 miles

IMG_3303

and decided that I look like Steve Urkel with my belt hiked up that high and that my Mizuno shoes and I could do this marathon in a couple weeks.

IMG_3304

Now I just need to figure out how to get there and everything. Ha.

I refueled pretty quickly with a sugar free soy latte from Starbucks.

IMG_3305

And once I got home I cowed down on some summer surprise cookie dough dip topped with peanut butter and Flatout cinnamon crisps.

IMG_3309

And…. what you’ve been waiting for…..

the new protein cookie dough.

IMG_1655

Really, this is nothing new and exciting, but I used a different protein powder in my pumpkin protein cookie dough and it’s been a go to the past week or so.

I’m too lazy to write out the whole recipe separately so here it is.

echo chain saw Cookies and Cream Protein Dough

IMG_3354

If you don’t have PB2 you can use a full serving of the protein powder instead (30-40 grams total). I’ve done that a few times and it’s still delicious.

I used this Spiru-tein protein powder (same one I use in my Cookies and Cream Protein Oats in a Jar).

IMG_1366.

This is dough-gone good friends.

IMG_1656

It’s even better topped with some kind of nut butter.

IMG_1660

Oh yum.

Okay, my “office hours” are coming to an end, but stay tuned because I have some really great things to giveaway this week.

And…….. I just may have held out on an extra Mizuno Mezamashii Run Project invite.

Smile

Anything exciting happen this weekend?

I am so ordering those egg whites. I never understood how people could eat that many eggs until now. 3/4c = 20g protein. Perfect for building muscle! :)

  2. 2

Dang you are amazing! I’m so glad you had a great weekend and ended it with some pretty fantastic guys! I need to look into those egg whites! I’m all about my egg white protein! I know you’ll do great in the marathon! I have faith in you and those magic shoes!

Oh… the shoes. Have you gotten yours? :) I’m super curious about the egg whites too. If they’ll be the same, etc. Hope you had a great weekend friend!!!!

I loved seeing your photos of the conference on twitter this weekend!

Also, my bf and I laughed our butts off over your kitty’s pictures the other day. He is beyond adorable and I told bf I’m getting a defective hairless cat asap!

  4. 4

can’t wait to try the new dough!
p.s. I find myself making the “t-rex arm” in way too many pictures I’m in. seriously, it’s embarrassing. but I’m glad I’m not the only one! haha

    Caitlin says:

So much going on in this post! Where to begin? Prob at your amazing arms. You are seriously one of my upper body IDOLS, woman! I love the whole eating-pizza-in-our-underwear thing. I remember being little and just running around in my underwear on warm sticky summer nights, my parents having no desire to try to force me into any clothing. What a little nudist I was. Don’t worry, this was a LONG time ago (I’m 23, haha). All your eats look awesome. Healthy with the perfect mix of indulgence :)

      STUFT Mama says:

You’re too funny Caitlin. I did not disclose that we went through about 4 pairs of underwear in about an hour and a half. Ugh. :) Fun memories of summer for you! Love that.

  6. 6

You are the bomb – so impressed with your seemingly neverending energy!! I can’t believe you did your 20 miles AFTER all that working out, I totally forgot when I saw your pic last night. You rock!

  7. 7

that protein powder and flavor is my favorite!! i use it all the time to make my protein frosting to top things with. i unfortunately can’t find it in a big container and can only get the little sample packets. i need to just man up and order it online or something.

ps. that is a crazy long run! whew!!!

    Samantha says:

HAHAHAHA! I totally laughed at the hiked belt. That is awesome. Can’t wait for your marathon and to hear the new stuff you learned throughout the week!

Your weekend must have been exhausting.

    Hilary Stewart says:

kristin! we totally almost bought those egg whites last year from a fitness magazine for our son! (totally scared the crap outta me for some reason- maybe ’cause it was in the magazine with HUGE people i felt like it was laced with steroids lol- super paranoid about my kids, i know) anyway, let me know how you like them! They sounded pretty cool, I’m sure it’s more pure than the protein he takes now! ……and the “handful” bras? how did i miss those before!?!?!!! Not that I even need a sports bra but nursing 5 kiddos for almost 2 yrs each has left me with nothing (not that there was a lot to start with, but….yeah.) Anyway- great post, thanks for the info! :)

    • 9.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Hilary- yes those Handful bras are the only thing that keeps me from looking like a 5th grade boy. Ha ha. And… those egg whites definitely need some better advertising pictures. They do have some BIG dudes on there. Ha ha.

  10. 10

Ooo that new dough looks good, no Oreo chunks though?? Haha I’m impressed how you workout so much, I don’t know if it’s from breastfeeding but I’ve been so weak lately, my weight is staying the same so im assuming I’m fueling well, and i eat around the clock as it is…ug!! Maybe my diet is missing something? I probably could use more sleep but I get a good 7-8 usually?!?

    Sheena says:

Glad we could provide you with some good weather this weekend. it’s supposed to be a bit warmer this week and I can’t wait for it! There’s so much fabulous scenery in San Diego that you’re never bored on runs! (unless you run in residential areas, then yeah, it can be a bit yawn-worthy. But hey! Dodging cars keeps you awake!)

    • 11.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Ha. Well, yeah I live about 30 minutes north of downtown so running by my house is not nearly as pretty. :) Are you close to downtown?

      • Sheena says:

I’m in La Mesa, so it’s not as pretty over here either! Thankfully I work in PB, so most of the nice running spots are within easy distance to me after work.

    • 13.1
      STUFT Mama says:

No- You are RIGHT!!! Oopsies. Totally was a typo on my part. I edited it. Thanks so much for catching that Tracey. (Although the dough might be even better with more oats. Ha ha.)

    Amanda N says:

That is a giant tub of egg whites! and you ordered 2? I hope you don’t get sick of them either. Work out and then run 20 miles? Just typing that makes me feel nauseous, you are amazing for pulling that off! I really have to try that frozen frosting you keep mentioning/using it just sounds good!

    • 14.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Yes, try that frozen frosting. I have some sitting in my freezer right now. :) And yeah, why did I order two? I guess I could’ve just got one. LOL.

Your blog posts are SO FUNNY. I am chucking in my cubicle as we speak hehe. Loved seeing all of your pictures from the expo, I live in San Diego and wanted to sneak in so badly! (maybe next year ;) ) Sooo excited for all of the giveaways this week AND the extra invite, I secretly (not so secretly now) wanted to win so badly so crossing my fingers for the extra giveaway! A girl can dream, right!? Hope you have a fantastic Monday!

  16. 16

I love that your kiddos eat pizza in their undies outside. I was totally an undies only (or bottoms only) kid in the summer until it was socially unacceptable (lol it probably is still socially acceptable with my chest!).

    Your cat cracks me up.

AND the thing I love most about HLBs / Runner gals is that poop jokes aren’t too far beneath us. It happens. And it’s funny.

    • 16.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Poop jokes are just awesome. :) And… I guess I could pull off wearing jst my underwear too since I’ve got nothing to hide above the waist either. LOL.

You are one fireball of energy, my dear! Get it! Expo looked awesome so far from the pics you have posted. Question for you – I see you use the syrups that are made from Splenda… a lot of buzz out there is to avoid it. What are your thoughts on splenda and spenda-made products?

    • 17.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Oh man. I don’t know. I think everything is okay in moderation and everything can also be harmful if you have too much of it. I’m not much help am I? I don’t have issues with Splenda, but I try to not have it too much. I prefer the taste over stevia in some things. :)

you crack me up!! the T-Rex arms comment was the best! it reminds me of how all my running photos turn out from my races. i look at the pictures and think “what was i doing with my arms??” haha! :) my monday morning started with my 4 yr old daughter poking at my chin saying “eww, mommy, you have a red, nasty bump on your chin!” thanks, babe, for pointing out my zit :P

you will rock that marathon, for sure, girl!! :)

You should see my “fly away” under arms…seriously, they have their own wings…..hmmm, what animal would that be similar too?? I will have to think about it. ;-)

I am finally making the roasted Zucchini tonight!! Can’t wait to see if I can burn mine too and enjoy it just as much!

    • 19.1
      STUFT Mama says:

I’ve heard them called bat wings- NOT that you have them, but we’ve called them that before in exercise classes that I teach. LOL. Hope your zucchini turned out Kathy! I just burned my leftover pizza. I’ve got skill.

  20. 20

Oh man that spin class sounds like it’d be killer (in a good awesome sort of way). Wanna come teach spin here??? And I need to get more PB GU now. My running store was out when I went in last darn it.

Oh, you so make me miss living in California. We have to get up very early here in the Queen City, Charlotte, NC, to get our short and long runs in. Today is high 90′s with a heat index of 105 degrees!!
Speaking of Cali, have you run the Sonoma to Napa Half? Got that on the radar for 2013.

You totally just made my day saying you had an extra mizuno invite! I checked my email like 20 times in one day waiting for the winners to be announced.. Sad, I know! If it’s left up to chance, I’ll never win them.. I’m not a very lucky gal… However, if God answers prayers for new shoes, I’ve got a solid shot at winning! Ha! Hope you get everything on your invisible to-do list done today with plenty of time for snuggles with your boys (all 3 of them) and lots of low calorie ice cream! Keep it up!

      STUFT Mama says:

    Annie says:

Congrats on the long run…..doesn’t it mess your “system” up! I always struggle with digestion (haha) on those days!! I am sure you follwed it up with plenty of red pepper (maybe that little tummy of yours is used to it!). HUbby and I got to celebrate our birthdays with a Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney concert! Tim came out in extremely tight white jeans and a white v-neck! My night was complete!!! Thanks for the recipe and of course turning green with envy over your egg-whites!

  25. 25

Congrats on the long run!! We sure did miss you!!! SO glad you had a good time and are back now! That new cookie dough looks to die for! That is a ton of egg whites!!

Your weekend sounds so fun (if not so busy). And you look so wonderful after running 20 miles. I ran 18 miles yesterday and looked like death when I finished. If your Mizuno’s are the secret then I need to upgrade my New Balance sneakers. :)

    Lisa says:

The conference sounds like a ton of fun! I can’t wait to read more about what you learned and all the great times you had. I am completely jealous of your egg whites since I’m obsessed with them haha. I eat a lot through out the day, they are just so versatile. Yay spin class, it is my love right now. I wish I could go to your class, that would be too much fun. Haha I love how you used twinsies, because I always add -ies to my words and now I don’t feel like such a weirdo;) Yum, the new cookie dough recipe looks awesome!!

  28. 28

Great job on the long run!!! I would’ve died after that spin class and then a long run. Can I have some of your energy!??!

  29. 29
    Liz says:

So busy girl, I guess you have a good excuse for missing jam this morning (we missed you guys of course). I’m glad you got in a nice long run on such a beautiful day and the cookie dough recipe sounds yummy! Hope to see you soon :)

  30. 30

Oh boy, more giveaways! :) I didn’t know it was a multi-day conference and you got to stay down there, how fun! Well maybe you drove back and forth? I can’t wait to hear more about it even if it takes you a month to slowly photo dump on us. I’m even more amused by that egg white container knowing it has a pump because it looks like an industrial ketchup container. Hmm, ketchup, mustard or egg whites? haha. I like that picture of you by the water because I know you asked a stranger to take a picture of you. :)

    • 30.1
      STUFT Mama says:

I drove back and forth each day. Fun times. That pump does make it very industrial doesn’t it? The pump is $10 though and I’m not sure if I should get it.
Oh and heck yeah I found some stranger to take my picture. Poor lady. LOL.

  31. 31

I’m looking for a new fuel belt – would you recommend yours? What brand is it?

Hooray for dough! And fire up the giveaway machine, mama needs a new pair of Mizuno’s! ;)

  32. 32

Hahaha I just LOVE your posts!! You crack me up! Sounds like you have been a busy lady! :)

  33. 33

PB Gu is one of my faves! That, vanilla, and espresso. They are all in regular rotation. When I can actually run long. I’m jealous of your 20 miler. #crazyrunnerrighthere

Tabatas on the bike sounds crazy! But fun. My spin instructor will never do that. Can I come to your class instead? ;)

Oh! And I must have missed it, but which Mizunos are those?

  34. 34

i love jillian michaels podcasts for my runs! way to go on getting it in and i have to say i’m jealous you went to IDEA it looked neato!

    thanks for another tasty recipe
