The Mezamashii Mommyhood Project

The Mezamashii Mommyhood Project

Last night’s “office hours” went a little late again. Beavis.

And I ate the exact same dinner I had the previous night. I tried really hard to not take a picture of it, but who was I kidding.

I decided to lay off the crushed red pepper a bit and add a little of Scotty B’s Ghostly Garlic sauce on top.

Good stuff.

I was going to make some low calorie ice cream, but I got too lazy and had this instead.

A Van’s light multigrain waffle with dark chocolate frosting and an apple crumb vitatop with some runny low calorie peanut butter frosting.

Yesterday’s Workout:

Taught  hour long step interval class at Y

Taught hour long group strength training class at Y

Many trips to and from the bathroom carrying hefty toddler

Well friends,

between the frequent trips to the potty (some successful, some not), a few mini marshmallows (pee pee treats) stickers for the potty charts, a couple of minor toddler tantrums, one major fall off the changing table and a few pairs of pull-ups……

we had a pretty good day yesterday.

We were in the kitchen the majority of the morning. If I was smart I would’ve just brought the small potty into the kitchen. That might have saved me a lot of time and trouble. I’m sure it would be totally sanitary too. Ha.

We made green gobblin’ muffins (since we never got to it the other day).

Have you seen the movie Dumb and Dumber? Is it me or does Joaquin’s new haircut kind of resemble Lloyd? It’s okay to say that, right?

Oh well, who cares anyway when you make these masterpieces.

Judah ate 4. No joke. He kept coming back for me. That’s my boy.

We also made some summer surprise cookie dough dip.

They made sure it was well blended.

I made sure it tasted good. Ha.

If you haven’t tried this yet, you really need to.

We even made a video of how to make our Flatout cinnamon crisps. Thank goodness there were no pee incidents while we were filming. Ha ha.

Yeah, we had a pretty good morning, although I still feel like I could’ve been better at being in the moment and focusing on summer priorities. I hate that.

On the way home from the gym last night I remembered that Judah had asked me to come in the TV room and build a castle with him and I said I would in just a few minutes.

I forgot about it.

Also, Joaquin brought his electric guitar over and was playing music and asked me to sing with him while I was on an important phone call (of course) and I told him I would when I was done.

I forgot about that too.

I hate that Mommy guilt feeling. How can I let these precious moments go by and not sit on the floor and play choo choo trains, or blocks, or sing with that God awful electric guitar?

That’s the thing with this kind of “job”. It’s hard to set limits during the day. I need to officially stick to my “office hours” and leave it at that.

It’s a work in progress. I’m a work in progress.

After feeling super guilty on the way home, I pulled in the driveway just when these guys were coming outside to turn sprinklers off. They greeted me and insisted they get to “drive Mommy’s car” for “two minutes”.

Love these guys. I need to remind myself that being mommy is number one.

It was a “brilliant” 2 minutes.

I wish I could find the Mezamashii experiences in being a mom everyday (on top of everything else that goes on around here).

I want to start The Mezamashii Mommyhood Project.

There’s an idea.

“The word “mezamashii” means “eye-opening” or “brilliant” in Japanese — it’s a word that captures the euphoric feeling of a brilliant run.”

Finding Mezamashii in running comes naturally for me. When I’m out there running all by myself, it just happens.

What I truly seek is to find and appreciate the “eye-opening”, “brilliant” moments in every single day with my boys.

I need to work towards finding that euphoric feeling of being the best mom I can be.

Speaking of Mezamashii….

All the invites for the Mezamashii Run Project expire July 15th before the next stage of the project. That’s Sunday friends. So basically, all invites need to be claimed by today at 5 pm EST.

I have another one to give away.

I have to tell you, it takes me a very long time to read through all of these and I want to comment on every single one. I really need to set out some time to go through them again this weekend so I an do just that.

I will also tell you that as much as I want to give you all shoes, I can’t. I get nervous every time I go to random.org to choose the number. It scares me people.

The lucky winner is:

Lora Lee

I sent you an email Lora. You NEED to redeem your invite and order your shoes though by 5 pm EST today! Sorry for the short notice.

Oh friends….

thanks so much for inspiring me every day and letting me dump my crazies on you blog post after blog post.

Have a wonderful weekend.

If things are quiet around here, I’m probably staring at a toddler sitting on the potty or washing some Toy story underwear

figuring out travel arrangements for The San Francisco Marathon in two weeks

attempting one more long run

working on my quest for The Mezamashii Mommyhood Project.

Want to join me?

ahhhh motherhood is NOT FOR SISSIES HUH?
I used to be far more me me me until my girl arrived and I realized my brilliant moments are truly when it is not about me at all.

I had a Mezamashii Mommyhood Project moment yesterday. After getting my brilliant run in I let the kiddos get their own brilliant run at the beach. We had places to go but I blew it all off to live in the moment. I think we are all a work in progress. I’m with you in starting the MM project! 🙂

BTW – Bring the potty into the kitchen! I’ve heard it’s good to have it everywhere. Just make sure you clean up really well! 😉

  3. 3

I can see the Lloyd resemblance in that hair cut! I’m so glad your the kind of Mom who can objectively laugh at their kids sometimes – I will definitely be that way when I have some youngins!

Totally bring the potty chair “closer” to the kitchen…nothing can be as gross as when daughter and I went to a guy’s house (I am thinking divorcee) to buy a hamster from him which she found on craigslist…..he and the boy at home at the time ….he had 5 cats….and ALL 5 cat pans were in the side room off of the front door…..GROSS!!

Nothing says welcome to my house like kitty litter every where…full cat pans….and the smell to kill a horse.

Mezamashii Motherhood Project sounds awesome girl…just what you need …another project! HAHA! And I am thinking the 2 minutes in your car driving made up for the minutes of guitar and lego playing you missed in the afternoon. 😉

No joke, those youtube commercials give me chills! I showed them to Tony and Jay…they both asked when we could go run again. They are crazy inspiring! I’m a huge fan of the Japanese couture and wisdom. When I heard what Mezamashii meant, I was on board right away! As for motherhood, it’s a constant challenge. It’s not easy to be there “present” 100% of the time. The important part is that when you are there, you are 100%. You’re boys know you care and they know you’re a great mom! They are growing up to understand love, responsibility and passion! You are so much of all of that! Keep your chin up this weekend and good luck with the potty time. You better be getting your chart full too! xoxo

Don’t they? I totally got all sentimental on my long run today. It can be such a euphoric experience sometimes. 🙂 Oh my chart- I think I need a new one since mine filled up darn fast. LOL.

You’re killin’ me with the cookie dough dip. I’m going to have to break down and try it. Think I could add protein powder to get the protein up to 20g?

First, I have to say you and you and your boys are so adorable! I’m going to try making those muffins with my 2.5 year old. I bet he’d love them and have no clue he was eating something so healthy :).

Can we go shopping at a spice store together some day?

Sadly no mommyhood here, but I would totally support your project all the same and I think it is a great idea. You are a great ambassador with your honesty and so many people can relate to you.

    1. LOL on the hair comment.
    2. Potty in the kitchen…I know you wouldn’t be the first mom to do it.

Thanks for the Friday reminder to live in the moment. Sometimes it is ridiculously hard.

    Have a great weekend!

  11. 11

Oh I’ll Join ya! I’m not as busy outside my house working as you are but sometimes I still focus way too much on making my house spotless that I put my kiddos on the back burner (not literally haha) maybe the boys would love to help me make up some of those green muffins 🙂

  17. 17

That cookie dough dip is on my “to-do” list! I know when I have kids I’ll have mommy guilt too! You do a wonderful job balancing everything out!

As a mom of slightly older children (10, 12, 14), I could totally relate! Your post today actually brought tears to my eyes- it really goes so, so, SO, fast. You are doing an amazing job and even though you had a little guilt, you put it to good use by having that 2 minute “drive” with the boys- look at their smiles! Priceless!!!

    Have a Fantabulous weekend!!!
P/S I <3 Joaquin's hair- trim! (yes, I also thought about Lloyd -SO funny!- your boys are Cute & Cuter!)

      STUFT Mama says:

Oh Janet- that’s nice- cute and cuter. 🙂 Thanks for the smiles. Oh man, why does it go so fast? I wish I could just be in the moment ALL the time. Have a wonderful weekend with your 3 kiddos!!!! 🙂

Aw, those pictures of them in your car are too cute.
I like how you say you laid off the red pepper flakes a little so you could put some hot sauce on 🙂 I think spices are legitimately addicting.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

I love the Mezamashii Mommyhood project idea! Seriously- I am right there with you. There’s always something I could be doing, and I really have to force myself to sit down and paint together, or have a pretend picnic. (Those sounded suspiciously girlie, but we do lots of rough and tumble, too!) 🙂 We’re doing our best- time to let go of the mommy guilt. Enjoy as much as we can, but also take a phone call or two. I think they’ll turn out alright.

  22. 22

OMG. LOVE the idea of the Mezamashii Mommyhood Project!!!! YES!!!! Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are doing an amazing job juggling all of your jobs…you spend such quality time with your boys in the kitchen – you aren’t placing them in front of the TV for hours at a time so you can do the things you want.

      STUFT Mama says:

You’re too nice Michele. 🙂 I need to spend more quality time with them OUTSIDE of the kitchne. Ha ha. Hope you’re doing well friend. Miss you. Hope you’re taking care of yourself and settling in.

Kristin, your boys are seriously the cutest things ever!!! I just want to come babysit for you!

  24. 24

Yes to the mommy project! I’m a little nervous about how I’m going to split my time once the baby arrives. I don’t want Lincoln to feel left out so I’ll definitely have to create (or pay attention to) some brilliant times that are solely about him 🙂

I laughed out loud about Joaquin’s hair. Awesome. I can’t stop laughing. The goblin muffins look amazing, I would have eaten 4 as well:) Some days we just forget to be more in the moment, no big deal there is always tomorrow! Your mommy priority is amazing! And that picture of you guys in the car is SO adorable! You are a great mama, and I hope one day in the future I can be as amazing as you are!! Have a top notch weekend friend!

  26. 26

I love the idea of the Mezamashii Mommyhood Project. I am so guilty of always saying, “just a minute” or “let Mommy finish this one thing first…” I too need to find the brilliant moments in being a Mom and enjoying it. Lately, those moments have been too few and far between. PS your boys are so freaking cute!

Love the site! Found it while searching for new shoes. I have 8: 27, 24, soon to be 21, 18, 14, 12, 9 & 7 (5 boys/3 girls). And, a single mom going to school full-time on my own! Running is my outlet, and sometimes kids run with me. Trying to rebuild after an injury & too much time off – one mile at a time!
