Sunday Runday

Sunday Runday

Good morning. Hope you’re having a good weekend.

Our weekend has been a whirlwind so far, but a couple highlights are that we’re making some progress on the whole potty training thing, but instead of filling up the potty charts, we’ve been going through a few too many marshmallows. I shouldn’t have started that one.

Right now I’m sucking down an iced sugar free hazelnut mocha at the moment and I’m super annoyed with myself because I know I bought some better reusable green straws from Starbucks recently and can’t for the life of me find them. Grrr…

That candy cane striped straw just doesn’t cut it for the month of July.

And well, instead of hanging out on his usual sitting spot, Kitty has found a new place to sit.

Yeah, my new gadget is still in the box. I told myself I can open it once I get at least a couple other things on my mile long “to-do” list done.

At least someone’s getting some use out of it. Lovely.

I don’t have much time before we head out today, but I went on one last long training run Friday and want to take you with me.

Lucky you.

I had to sub a class at the Y at 7 on the morning so I headed out with a new version of an iced mocha in hand. I wanted a little protein and experimented with adding some egg whites in the mix. Here’s what I put together:

1 tablespoon instant espresso

2 tablespoons my favorite cocoa powder

2 tablespoons sugar free hazelnut syrup

1/2 cup egg whites (goodness knows I have enough over here)

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

1/2 frozen banana

It was a little weird, but I sucked it down in record time.

Do you ever put egg whites in your drinks or smoothies? I might have to have to look into a little more…..

Okay, the run. I set out to run 23 miles. I don’t know how many I actually ran as my phone died right after 22 miles.

I scarfed down a double layer sandwich with my favorite bread at the gym beforehand.

layer one- Smart Balance, cinnamon and a Splenda packet

layer two- SunButter and sugar free grape jelly

Oh, and I’ve been sporting my Reebok CrossFit bracelet all weekend in honor of the CrossFit Games going on. Some of my FitFluential friends are there (not that I’m extremely jealous or anything).

By the time I had finally gotten all my gear together (goo, fuel belt, nuun, phone, etc.) I was already kind of hungry again so I ate this little thing I had gotten from the IDEA expo last weekend.

Not impressed. Actually, I have no desire to have another one of these.

I set out for the run.

At mile 3 I was not really liking it already. It was hot and I was tired. Ugh. I just kept moving though.

Then I got to the coast and started to just enjoy the scenery.

How can I not appreciate a run that looks like this, right?

I even passed the place where STUFT Daddy proposed to me.

Yeah, that’s right. He proposed in a parking lot. In his truck.

In his defense, he wanted to get out and walk on the beach, but I was too cold and wouldn’t get out. We’re so romantic though,  aren’t we?

By mile 8 I was finally feeling better and my body figured out it wouldn’t stop running anytime soon.

Mile 10 was a little pit stop at the lifeguard station to use the facilities, eat some GU chomps

and refill water bottles.

Why yes, that is goo on my shirt. I was sporting Handful sports bra (not just the pads) this time.

By mile 11 I decided that I was going to run up this hill.

The last time I ran it was at the La Jolla Half Marathon.

By mile 12 someone was trying to mess with me.

Really, a detour? Lame. I showed them and snuck around.

Yeah, I like to live dangerously.

I made it to that darn hill (and found a stranger to take my picture of course).

The hill…..

Yeah, it was that long.

by mile 16, at the top of that darn hill,

I had my Mezamashii Moment.

My brilliant run Mizuno moment.

I also happen to be listening to this amazing song on my iPhone. Talk about perfect timing.

(I’m not sure what that tea cup arm is about. I guess it beats my T. rex arm. Oh wait, I think that’s still there too.)

Oh, it was a good feeling friends.

After that I headed for the long haul back to the Y. I have to be honest, it wasn’t that easy. I just kept saying to myself that I had to get it done and kept putting one foot in front of the other.

Then my phone died. Ugh.

I eventually made it back tired and extremely hungry. When I plugged my phone in, I saw just how far I’d gone when it died.

I’m curious though how long my run actually was, so I’m going to try to track it later on MapMyRun.com.

Do any of you use that?

That’s my last long run for awhile, until the San Francisco Marathon in two weeks anyway.

I won’t bore you with anymore long run chat.

I have our flights scheduled for the marathon, now we just need a nice hotel to offer us a free room since we’ll be celebrating our wedding anniversary and all.

Yeah, I’m that nice. Not only am I dragging STUFT Daddy on a “racecation”, but it’s going to be a little “raceversary” celebration too. He’s so lucky.

Hope your weekend is going well. Ours has looked a little like this.

I’m off to hopefully get these guys a few more stickers on their charts today.

I’ll leave you with this horribly lit, totally inappropriate picture of me and the tiniest piece of cheese less veggie pizza ever.

Oh, and one more of Kitty back on his new spot with some super saggy manboobs and eye boogers.

(That was my sugar free vanilla latte from yesterday morning in case you care.)

Have a wonderful Sunday!!!! I’m working on my Mezamashii Mommyhood Moment today.

Have you had your brilliant moment? (Running, mommyhood, life…..)

I’ve got some good GNC powered protein packed recipes coming up tomorrow. Woot woot!

Cracking up at so much in this post. I like when you take us for runs and I LOVE when strangers take your picture. I do not want egg whites in my smoothie thank you. Bleh. They look great when other people make them but I could not get that down. Oh god I can hardly even think about it.

Egg whites are good in smoothies but can’t say I would put them in my mochas. I did try a bit of vanilla protein powder in my sf vanilla almond milk latte, ok but a bit gritty lol!

    Love kitty’s mooobs!

Wow! So much in this post to comment on! I’ll limit myself to two!

    (1) I recognize the beach photos from your run; my family and I spent a week in La Jolla over spring break and loved it!
    (2) I make a coffee protein shake similar to yours, but I add a spoonful of peanut butter! Yummy!

    Have a great week!

You are amazing! You also crack me up! Trust me, the marshmallow trick is worth it! I would pee in the potty too for some marshmallows! That hills looks like a beast! I don’t know how you do it! I can’t wait to get some magic shoes! I want to be able to fly through a run like that! Great job and I hope you’re enjoying some down time today my friend!

Your coffee drinks always make me crave a nice big frappe or iced coffee…anything! 🙂 I’ve never tried egg whites in smoothies…but it may be worth it for the protein punch!

Kitty looks so happy in this post! No angry eyes. We have two devon rex cats and we loooove them.
My mom never let us eat raw cookie batter because of the eggs. Is it safe to put egg whites into a smoothie? Is the dangerous part in the yolk? Or is there something about the egg whites you got that makes them safe raw? Just curious!

You have devon rex cats??????? Cool! Do they have curly hair? Egg whites from a carton are pasteurized so they are safe even if not cooked. Yolks are a different story.

That hill looks so tough! Great job on such a long run.

My first marathon is this October and it’s on my wedding anniversary and my lovely husband is coming along for the racecation/raceversary. Personally, I think it’s a great way to spend such a special day. 🙂

Haha. Oh kitty, he cracks me up. I’m glad there has been some progress in the potty department! At least its improving. I’ve put egg whites in my smoothies before, but it definitely feels weird at first! I mean its not bad, but just realizing there are egg whites in there is pretty creepy? No, I don’t know what the right word is to put in there hah. Haha, I love that proposal story. Sounds like something I would do as well. Refuse to get out of the car. Classic. Haha you made me laugh throughout your whole post.

Yeah, aren’t we romantic?? 🙂 And the whole egg white smoothie thing is something you have to get used to I guess. I’m still on the fence about it.
