Living Well with GNC- Goo and Frosting

 

I won’t even go through all my classes or blab on about my day yesterday because, my friends, this GNC goodness today is just too great to not give my full attention to. Well, almost my full attention, I have a fun little thing going on today with “my boyfriend”. He he.

 

Last week we got an amazing package from GNC.

Yes friends, GNC is going to be taking really good care of the whole family for quite some time. We love GNC. I’ve loved it since I would frequent the local store at the mall when I was in high school. I was all about getting the best vitamins, etc. even at the young age of 16.

Anyhoo…

I got these huge jugs of protein powder.

(We’ve got some seriously huge jugs of things around here. Ha ha.)

 

Now I’m pretty picky about protein powders. They have to be dairy free these days. I don’t like them to have a lot of carbs, I want them to taste good and mix well, have a significant amount of protein, be low in sugar and not make my tummy upset.

Why yes, I am high maintenance.

Well, I can honestly say that I am loving these protein powders and have been using them daily. I’m in love with the GNC Pro Performance® 100% Egg Protein – Vanilla Ice Cream. I was intrigued by it at first as I’ve never had egg protein powder before and was a little hesitant, but holy catfish it is GOOD.

And it has some great nutritional stats.

I rarely use a full serving since I try to make my protein powder last awhile. The fact that I can use just half of a serving for 65 calories and still get about 12-13 grams of protein is just fabulous.

- It serves as a source of amino acids.

- Egg protein is highly digestible and easily absorbed by the body.

- It’s lactose free.

I’ve been excited to try different things with them everyday and I’ve been saving all my new creations and pictures for one big post, but now I feel like it might be a bit overwhelming. So…. I’m just going to start off with a little goo and frosting madness and save the protein muffin and pumpkin protein cookie dough for a different day.

You’ll be seeing this GNC goodness around for awhile.

I really should just post as I create and it would be easier on all of us. I like to learn the hard way though I guess.

Goo first.

GNC Goodness Goo

1/4-1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce (can substitute mashed banana or pumpkin)

15-20 grams GNC egg white protein powder (Vanilla Ice Cream)

1/4 cup oats (20 grams)

1/3 cup brown rice cereal, optional  (10 grams)

optional add-ins: sweetener packet, cinnamon, splash of vanilla or almond extract

 

Mix all ingredients together.

Place in a cute bowl and eat up.

It’s the perfect protein packed snack with a little crisp that takes less than 2 minutes to put together.

That will be next. I was impressed with how well the protein powder mixed with just applesauce. It’s very similar to the STUFT protein cookie which I have yet to try with this protein powder. That will be next.

I’ve also been using this same protein powder to make vanilla frosting. I thought making a frosting out of protein powder wouldn’t be that great, but I was wrong. It’s good. It’s actually more than just good. It’s dreamy.

Vanilla Ice Cream Dream Protein Frosting

15 grams GNC egg white protein powder

2 tablespoons sugar free maple syrup

 

Yep. That’s it. Mix those two ingredients together and viola. Protein frosting.

 

I bet it would work with some sugar free Torani syrup also.

I like putting it on summer surprise cookie dough dip.

Oh and adding some peanut butter and sprinkles and serving it with cinnamon crisps and apple slices.

It’s actually a little more like a protein glaze, but it really doesn’t matter because it’s that good.

Last night I put the same frosting on my high protein dark chocolate muffin (I subbed in a little GNC Pro Performance® Soy Protein 95™ – Chocolate instead of my favorite cocoa powder in the muffin).

I really want to give you this recipe too, but……

I found out in the middle of the day yesterday that I have a one-on-one date today with my best friend Bob. Oh yes, I haven’t seen him since my last visit where I got him coaching me through the one arm snatch on video. Check it out here if you missed it. Yeah, we’re close like that. Ha.

I’m not sure what’s in store for today, but I better be ready to go. Weeee……

Ha ha.

I went with some Slap Ya Mama seasoning that Brittany sent me (and a bunch of other stuff) and topped it with BBQ sauce and a little low fat ranch for dinner last night. 

Probably not the best idea to eat all that spice and veggies the night before a tough workout. Oopsies. Again, learning the hard way.

 

And, well, yesterday the boys were ready for school, today they’re ready for work.

I just can’t keep up.

Maybe they want to work at GNC so we can all have a lifetime supply of protein powder, chia and vitamins. Now that would be awesome.

    I was able to try this egg powder thanks to GNC too Is is absolutely delicious… but I wish it didn’t have all of the sodium in it! My trainer wants me to keep it to 1000 mg a day and this puts my nearly half way to my quotient. Do you worry about sodium at all? You probably sweat it all out with those boys. :)

    No, I haven’t tried it, but you know I’m all about dairy/soy free protein powder. I need to look into getting some egg white protein powder now! Have fun today…I know you will! Give our boyfriend a hug for me too!

    I tried Jay Robb’s egg white protein powder by mistake. Honestly? I hated it. But, everyone has different taste preferences and texture likes/dislikes. And your boys are just too cute.

    i really hope you didn’t write this post at 2 AM when my google reader told me it was published…. ;) i’ve never tried the egg white protein, but it sure is intriguing! the nutritional stats look great, and i’ve heard from everywhere that it tastes great too.

    I am still trying to figure out the entire protein powder thing. Even as a vegan I am kind of staying away from the soy ones out there. I wish more offered sample sizes to be honest.

      The sample sizes get pricy though. Vega is pretty popular. I liked it, but the one I had had a lot of other things in it also. I like just a protein powder since I eat so many veggies I don’t really need all the other stuff. ;) Might be worth checking out though.

        They get really pricey! I think I have tried Vega once and didn’t mind it although it might have upset my stomach. I will have to try again. And that is a good point, my diet is already plenty veggie loaded.

    Have been shopping around for protein powders for about a month and just cannot decide on one. I’m am definitely going to have to give this a try!! Chia seeds are a staple in our household!

    I laugh everytime I read these posts at work and I don’t even care if I look crazy ;) I am in the market for a new protein powder and this may do the trick!! I have a sensitive stomach and don’t do well with dairy so these may be an eggcellent substitute hehe

    I just ordered some supplements from GNC’s Genetixhd line. I’m really excited about trying them. thinking I need to try the egg protein. It seems to be getting a lot of great reviews. Have fun with Bob!

    Haven’t tried egg protein powder, I’ve only heard of it just recently but now I’m more into plant based protein powders, but I do eat a lot of egg whites so an eggwhite powder would give me some more variety?? That goo looks easy too, I’ve been living off of cottage cheese and fiber one bran cerealnas a quick snack (with my beloved sugar freenmaple syrup) and sometimes I think I should try new combos….but my husband is starting to get irritated with all the new things i am always bringing home…poor him. What do you feed your husband?

    Haha. I’m high maintenance with protein powders as well, I look for all the same things you do. As well as soy free. The processed soy tends to make my tummy not so happy! I am so totally jealous of all the chia and protein you got, I am in love with my chia seeds. I think I will have to see about this egg white protein powder, I love my egg whites and want to switch up from my vega and sun warrior. YUM to everything on this post, the new goo, frosting, cookie dough dip. Have fun with Bob!

    Kristen–I am nervous about egg protein powders:you are inspiring me to step out of my comfort zone. i just told Bettyann we need to break out the blender!!!

    I’m so glad you are loving the Slap Ya Mama!!! I had it on eggs today! :) I’m going to have to try this protein powder. I have to have dairy free, low sugar, and low carb too. I have never used egg white protein, but it looks interesting!

    Of course, everything looks great and I want to make that frosting & cookie dough. I also have never tried egg protein but you have me totally intrigued. I have been going back and forth between sun warrior and now your suggestion of egg protein. Hmm…decisions!!

    Hi! For all your protein powder recipes, can I sub with other protein powders? Do the egg white ones have the least calories? I have a huge box of yuck chocolate powder, and a huge on of OK strawberry. Can’t seem to find nice tasting choclate ones. Any ideas? And for plain with no taste perhaps? THANKS!

      Hi Ida! Protein powders are funny. You can usually swap them out for each other, but I’ve found certain ones do better in baking and certain ones do better in smoothies. It just takes playing with them a bit. It also depends on if you want whey protein or a dariy free one. There are a couple out there that are just natural and don’t have a taste, but I prefer vanilla because it seems to be the most versatile. :) Trader Joe’s has some good cheaper options.
