Getting Back on Track- Recovery Days


Good morning friends! Happy Flatterday!


I had the bright idea of doing a big Flat Kitty roast today, but since I just got back from teaching boot camp and we’ve got a busy afternoon including a Costco trip, this is going to be quick.

I gave myself just enough time before boot camp this morning though to use my Magic Bullet to blend my perfect summer mocha in honor of Flatterday


and snap just a few Flat Kitty pictures outside with my early rising buddy.

The good news about not getting to the whole Flat Kitty roast is that if you want to send me a picture of Flat Kitty with something you roasted (or anything else of you just want to share) email it to me and I’ll put it in the post eventually. He he. More information is here.


So…… I overdid it the other day. I hit a wall late Thursday night. It was a combination of a lot of different things: not sleeping enough, not letting my body rest, being extremely exhausted, worrying too much about the future, trying to make big life decisions, being stressed out, etc. All those things that have been building up for quite some time hit me all at once.

I don’t handle fatigue and stress well. The combination of the those two things in particular usually leads to me making some not so great choices about what I eat. That happened Thursday too. I consumed way too many processed foods that I generally try to stay away from. I ate dairy. I knew that stuff would make my stomach hurt later, but I it anyway. Ugh. We’ve all been there, yes?


They have their moments too.


So yesterday I was so sick. I felt like I had been run over by a truck. My tummy hurt, I had the worst headache ever, I was overly tired and well, just felt like poop. It was not a good day. It’s amazing how your body lets you know when it’s not happy with you.

So….. instead of beating myself up and feeling guilty, I did do some things to try to help the situation a bit.


I made my first ever green juice drink. I know everyone else makes theses all the time, but this was my first attempt.


I used 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a Summer Citrus CocoaVia packet, some kale, a cup of ice and a cup of water.


It wasn’t too shabby.


It was a little chunky at the end with the kale, but oh well.


I made egg whites in a mug. (Put 1/2 cup of egg whites in a mug sprayed with cooking spray and microwaved for 3:33.)


And topped them with a little Trader Joe’s Everyday Seasoning, this hot sauce and Brewer’s Yeast.


It was the perfect little snack.


Speaking of egg whites, I’m really making my way through my huge egg white jug. I just ate this big bowl of cold goodness while writing this.


Yes, cold goodness. Cold egg whites and oats? Again, not too shabby.

I followed the recipe for green eggs and oats a bit (minus the spinach) and cooked it up in the microwave last night. (In the mug- 1/3 cup Coach’s oats, 1/2 cup water, 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/2 cup egg whites, a little chia, cinnamon, vanilla and a sweetener packet.)

This morning I plopped it in a mug and topped it with some Naturally More, sugar free strawberry jam and some maple syrup.

It was like cold French toast goodness.



I also rested yesterday. STUFT Daddy let me take a mid morning nap and it was marvelous.

My workout was a slow easy jog with the stroller last night.


And we went to bed early.


Okay, that’s it for now. We’re feeling better today and are off to fight the Costco crowds. Should we dare take Flat Kitty for some Flatterday fun to document our trip or is that boring?

Man I hope we can find that yummy kale salad again.


Oh my goodness I almost forgot.

One of the workouts we taped with my best friend Bob is on YouTube now for free. It’s a 7 minute AMRAP and a fun one you can do at home. I’m the girl up in front in the blue shirt. We taped this one awhile back, but it’s fun to see.

    I added chia seeds to my oatmeal this morning before my long run and I felt great even though it was almost 100 degrees! Hoping that my legs recover faster because of the chia!

    I like seeing you in that video! How fun!
    We had basically the exact same breakfast this morning!! I had seriously the same thing, except used oat bran instead of oats. I love the cold overnight oats with egg whites. So tasty.
    I hope you feel much better now!! Sorry about the sickness, but at least you got in a marvelous nap and some much needed rest!

    Sorry about the not so fun day. If i helps at all, you aren’t alone! WIth a new semester of classes about to start, along with several other things, I’ve been doing my fair share of stressing and fatigueing as well. The important thing is that we get back on track and you’ve got that down no problem! Hope today was much much better!

    Welcome to the green smoothie club 🙂 LOVE THEM!! Today I made a light one using my new Vega energizing protein powder (the berry flavor), kale, almond milk, ice, water, and some of my orange Stevia! It was so refreshing and totally energizing just like it said 🙂 I’ve been over working my body lately too, although I don’t workout as much as you I still have just had to step back and slow down a few days. One thing is for sure, I miss my egg whites sooo bad, when I’m done nursing little poo poo head I’m celebrating with a jug of those gnu egg whites!

    Hey lady! I hope you are feeling better! Sleep is so, SO important..as you know..and dang girl, you sure work out a lot, too. I love your eggwhites and oats… it comes out so thick and big! I once made this and my boyfriend goes “I can’t believe you can eat all of that”..HA!!!
