Supplements We Take and Protein Frosting We Make

 

Good morning! It’s Monday, again. Really? How does that happen?

I’m trying to keep my posts short and to the point this week. Good luck with that, huh? Since I have a big weekend coming up at the Nike Women’s Marathon with FitFluential and I haven’t trained as much as I should have, I’m hoping a little extra rest and sleep leading up to it will make up for it. I’m sure it’s the same. Ha.

Here’s just a quick picture from Saturday night. I had intended to run home from church while the boys hung out and drove home. Plans changed though as there was a festival going on at church, so I ditched my attempt to run the 4 miles home and spent time with these guys instead.

Another decision that probably won’t help with my race this upcoming weekend, but I’m trying to focus on more important priorities.

Yesterday.

Well, we made it through the day. The potty training progress was pretty successful. We didn’t leave the house at all, had the kitchen timer set at 20 minute intervals (that was fun), spent the majority of the day in the bathroom, went through a lot of mini marshmallows, ran out of coins to put in the piggy banks, did countless loads of laundry, attempted to do some house chores together and baked a batch of gluten free peanut butter doughtzel balls.

I’m pretty sure we made some potty training progress though and today we’re setting the timer at 30 minute intervals instead of 20. Woo hoo!

Since we didn’t leave the house and I didn’t want to take any chances with my man Joaquin sporting big boy underwear the only chance I got to fit in a run was during nap time. Thank goodness it happened yesterday (unlike the other day). Last week it was I fell asleep on Joaquin’s bed, yesterday STUFT Daddy slept on the floor next to Joaquin’s bed. Ha.

I took full advantage of all my men being asleep and jumped on the treadmill for 9 miles while I finished the movie The Help. Not quite the uplifting running movie, but it definitely kept my butt on the treadmill.

 

Not that you care, but I just sucked down this drink in about a minute.

Pumpkin Protein Latte Smoothie

In the drink: espresso cubes (I made those yesterday too), 1/2 cup pumpkin, 1/2 serving GNC vanilla egg protein powder, 1 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, pumpkin pie spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, 1 stevia packet, 1 tablespoon sugar free vanilla syrup and 1/2 cup crushed ice.

Yep. Seriously, gone in 60 seconds.

 

So I meant to do this post about the different supplements the whole family has been taking last week. I don’t know about you, but I’m always curious what vitamins or supplements other people take and why. I’ve said this before, but for the longest time I just took a daily multivitamin and some Kirkland brand fish oil. That was it. Lately I’ve been upping my supplements a bit because of all the demands my training and classes I’m teaching have on my body.

I started taking the GNC Women’s Wellness Vitapak last month and so far am loving it. I thought about switching it up for the Women’s Active one, but I’m going to stick with the one I’ve got for a bit. I love that it’s convenient and has all the different vitamins a lady needs. Just grab the pack in the morning and go. GNC offers a bunch of others to choose from though and page to help you figure out what Vitapak is best for you.

I have to say that the people over at GNC are very helpful too. I’m always one to ask a million and one questions and they have always answered them right away.

I do my Vitapak in the morning and then take my probiotic at night. The probiotics are something that’s new for me (and STUFT Daddy) too, but so far so good. I’m currently taking the Ultra 50 Probiotic Complex. I’m feeling good on them so far, but my tummy has been a little off due to me reintroduction of milk products (in the form of my huge jug of whey protein powder). I am really thankful though that I have the probiotics to get me through this time of year when everyone seems to start getting sick. They’ll for sure be traveling with me also the next few weekends.

Since I’m new to the whole probiotic thing and I’m definitely not an expert, I’ll just keep taking them daily and feeling good while I pass along the information from the GNC probiotic page. They’re the experts friends.

Also new to the supplement mix for mwah this month are these.

GNC TriFlex Sport and Triple Strength Fish Oil Sport. I’m taking these at night with my probiotics and am very curious to see how my body reacts. I think they’re essential for the amount of training I do and there have been many studies on the cardiovascular benefits of fish oil.

On a total unrelated side note, the GNC Triflex Sport tastes and smells so good. I’m only taking 2 of the recommended 4 capsules, but might start taking the full amount after the next week or so. I have to see how my body reacts.

Okay. Enough about me.

I’m not the only one who takes vitamins around here. The boys get theirs too.

My boys went through their other GNC vitamins so they got to open these up the other day. The Hero Yummi Bear vitamins are a huge hit. I’m guess it has something to do with the watermelon flavor.

Since Turk has some joint issues and a medal plate in his leg (he tore his ACL a few years ago), he’s starting the Hip and Joint Health.

He didn’t want a picture though. Sorry.

 

Oh Beavis, I’m out of time over here. Darn it. Not only is the kitchen timer going off, but my tummy is rumbling and Kitty needs his vitamins.

 

Oh, but before I go, let me just tell you, now that I’ve tried the GNC Pro Performance® 100% Egg Protein – Chocolate Supreme, it’s right up there with the GNC vanilla egg protein powder.

All of these are A-MAZ-ING.

This is definitely my favorite protein powder of all time. In addition to all my GNC protein goo concoctions and the STUFT protein crispy treat

I love just making vanilla  ice cream dream protein frosting. It goes on anything. I even put it on spaghetti squash yesterday. I’m not kidding.

Well, the same frosting can be made with the chocolate protein powder.

The other day it was on a pumpkin microwave muffin

and last night it was on my Creamy Dreamy Ice Cream.

Chocolate Protein Frosting

1/2 serving GNC Chocolate Egg Protein powder (17 grams)

2 tablespoons sugar free maple syrup (or agave, or milk of choice, etc.)

 

Yep. Try it.

    I’ve never tried GNC protein powder. My current bag is almost gone so I might just have to order some. I’m LOVING all of your ice cream and frosting recipes. Keep them coming.

    That’s the thing about smoothies – I slurp them down in less than a minute! I try and make them thicker to eat with a spoon, so it takes longer and I can enjoy them more!

    I take fish oil, vitamin D, a B-12 complex, Vitex & DIM (I’ve got endometriosis so the vitex & DIM make my periods a bit more bearable).
    All of your recipes sound amazing. I have to try that pumpkin microwave muffin.

    I think you made the right decision to hang with the boys after church….looks like everybody is all smiles..

    (Honestly, though over the weekend I had a conversation with Owen (my babe who is 9) about kindergarten and going on such and such field trips and he had no idea what I was talking about nor did he care….and I am sure I thought, “I have to go on the FT with him or he will be scarred for life” ha!) I am sure our time together was amazing but he didn’t recall a thing about it.

    Now, ask him about swimming at the cabin last summer and he can go into more details than any boy I know….what’s my point? No worries about missing “the younger boy moments” they won’t remember and there will be PLENTY of other times/moments to make memories which THEY WILL REMEMBER!

    Although, I am sure you knew that…b/c you are super mom like that. 😉 love ya….in a non creepy, blog reader thanks for all your recipes and work outs sort of way.

    I recently migrated over to the new GNC Probiotic line – currently testing their new chews and really like them! They are currently higher in bil count than the line I had been using for a while. Definitely glad GNC developed a probiotics line to add to their mix. I’m an IBS patient so very in-tune to the whole holistic approach to working on digestive benefits 🙂 I will probably try some of the other products in their probiotic line when I finish up with the chews!

    Here it goes:
    Vitex and DIM (thrilled to see another commenter on these…not because it is thrilling to need them, but because I am new to them and I think they are a great option.)
    Herbal from acupuncture (blood stasis or something)
    Vitamin D (WA state = rain)
    Calcium
    Multivitamin
    B12

    Ugh! Those Doughtzels. So highly addictive. I have to plan when I make them so at least some of them make it to a function or friends or something! They are heaven.

    PS. I think the family balance instead the run probably did you good anyway.

      Whoa- I’m tired just reading about all your supplements. 🙂 Yes, doughtzel balls are dangerous. I have to get them out of those house as quickly as possible after making them or I eat them all. Ha.

    I’m such a vitamin nerd! Alive Women’s energy multi, grapefruitseed extract, aloe vera gel, psyillium fiber, GABA (helps with lack of daylight here in the winter months), Swanson’s Triple Probiotic, Rainbow Light Calcium….probiotics have changed my life though! After finding out I had severe food allergies two years ago I added probiotics to my daily vitamins and I cannot believe how much they help. Also- I have a new addiction to About Time protein powder- its GF and sweetened with stevia. Makes amazing ice cream and brownie bowls 🙂

      Whoa- yes that’s a lot. Just curious because I’m new to the whole probiotic thing, but how can you tell they have helped? Just less tummy issues? I can’t tell exactly if I feel any different yet. 🙂

        Yes less bloated feeling after eating things that usually bother me for certain, it did take time (a few weeks) to get feeling a lot better though. I tell a huge different when traveling- much better!

    I always go back and forth about supplements..it’s hard to know what’s beneficial and what’s harmful! The research is all over the place about it…
    Right now I take a daily multivitamin and calcium supplement, and occasionally a fiber supplement.

    My son takes the same yummi bear vitamins! I take a multivitamin, fish oil, probiotic, vitamin C, calcium and lysene (since I’m prone to cold sores/canker sores).

    I used to be really good about taking vitamins and supplements but lately I’ve just been taking Lincoln’s gummy vitamins with him ( and vitamin C). They taste good but I’m sure I should be taking something more suited for a 30-something woman 🙂

    Yay! I’m glad you had a good time with your family after church! I think that even if our kids don’t remember the moments, we will. It’s good to relax, be happy, enjoy the moment and spend time with people we love.

    Thanks for sharing the supplements you take with us. It’s very interesting. Right now I take a daily prenatal vitamin because I am trying to conceive. I should also be taking some vitamin d and fish oil but I guess I forgot since I ran out a while ago. This is a good reminder for me.
