Get After a Little Family Fashion

Get After a Little Family Fashion

Yesterday’s workout:

Taught a noon spin class.

Taught a Y40X class, Back to Abs and a step aerobics class at night.

2012-10-25 19.30.16

I made a couple very special discoveries yesterday.

Roasted cauliflower, roasted brussel sprouts and mushrooms make a darn tasty combination and are fabulous just dipped in marinara. Actually, that really isn’t something new around here, but the fact that I didn’t burn them is definitely a new thing.

Woo hoo. Go me.

I also made a new version of a microwave muffin to try to use up some almond meal I have in the pantry. It turned out pretty darn delicious.

I better try it again today to make sure the recipe is ready to share though. Ha ha.

And……. did you know that Smart and Final sells squash?

I was pleasantly surprised when I found some kabocha squash and spaghetti squash there last night on my way home from the gym. I did what any other person would do and stocked up of course.

Okay, so don’t laugh that I’m writing about fashion. Obviously I’m aware that we, as a family, do not have the best fashion sense at times.

Lucky for us, we have some pretty amazing companies like Reebok who look out for us and make sure that this mama doesn’t go to the gym to teach classes wearing just any old thing.

The weather has gotten a bit colder (finally) and being able to wear just my tank that I taught classes in  to the grocery store afterwards isn’t quite cutting it anymore.

Yeah, that was me trying to look all cool in my Reebok gear at the grocery store a few weeks ago.

Problem solved.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, I received a little outfit from the Reebok’s Pink Ribbon Collection.

The have a bunch of other cute clothes in the Pink Ribbon Collection (sold online here or at Dick’s Sporting Goods), but I got this Pink Ribbon 1/4 Zip Top

and these super comfy Pink Ribbon Pants.

Hmmm…. too bad they can’t do anything about my hair. Ha.

Anyway, I’ve been sporting my new outfit to the gym as my outer layer to try to impress my classes

and Turk.

You know you needed to see the back.

The pants are especially soft and comfortable.

Don’t you just want to crawl in?

The thing that makes this outfit that much better though is the fact that Reebok is a proud sponsor of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and will donate more than $500,000 this year to help combat breast cancer.

Awesome, right?

Oh wait, did you notice Joaquin’s cool shoes?

Yeah, that’s right. These guys each got their own pair of Mini Real Flex Transition 2.0 shoes.

They are on cloud nine with their new “workout shoes”.

I’m on cloud nine with the kwik-close design for easy on/off.

They even have the Real Flex technology on the sole.

Don’t mind the Charger sweat pants that are a tad too small. I really need to go shopping for some new pants for these guys.

I also just might have to let them design their own shoes on the Reebok website too. I can’t get over the selection of toddler/kid shoes they have. Check it out here. I’m warning you though, you’re going to want to design a pair for you kids or your friend’s kids.

So, while we’re all hanging out in style over here courtesy of Reebok,

we have a little something for you.

Want one of these cool Get After It Tees?

I thought so.

You’re in luck because we’ve got a couple to give away to you.

They have these shirts in both women’s and men’s. We’ve got four shirts total to give away.

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment here telling my what you’re doing this week to “Get After It” as far as workouts go. (Trying a new class, running, exercising first thing in the morning, etc.)

Click here and tell me what infant/toddler shoes you like the most. They’re just all so darn cute and make me smile.

Feel free to tweet the following for an additional entry.

I want to #getafterit with a cool @Reebok shirt from @stuftmama http://stuftmama.com/2012/10/30/get-after-a-little-family-fashion/

*Giveaway will be open until Wednesday at 11:00pm PST. Winners will be announced in Thursday morning’s post.

I was sent these clothes from Reebok. I was not compensated for this campaign. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I hurt my hamstring last year and I haven’t felt comfoertable running since. I’ve missed it terribly so this week is THE week. I’m finally ready and excited. I may not log all the miles you do but you still inspire me to go out and do what I can 😉

This week to get after it-I am going to push myself out of a rut and out of my comfort zone by trying to find a new form of low impact cardio. I am a runner, who has recently experienced runner’s knee, and I have not been “into” any other form of cardio and nothing gives up that rush like running. So I headed out on my bike last night-which I have not done in years and actually discovered what a great workout it is! After just running 2 half marathons I thought I was in good shape-but the quads were really feeling the biking. Although, hurricaine Sandy just hit my hometown last night-so outdoor biking today is not an option. I also just bought an elliptical that I am not loving and am trying so hard to learn to like. Just found a fun martial arts wo from fitness mag that mixes weights and cardio-I was really feeling this workout this am. So I am going to get after it this week by not pouting, sucking it up that I can’t run, and find new ways to release endorphins!

Getting after it by: I’m going to try to mix up my workout routine in the morning: instead of 5 days of high impact, interval with some strength training workout, i’m gonna mix in some low impact & yoga so I can maintain a good workout regimen without feeling the only way to do that is too be dripping with sweat & exhausted every morning before work. Also for my lunch time run I’m gonna try some different running intervals instead of just running my normal routes around work. Lastly i’m gonna be more mindful about what I put in my body along with how much or little of it I have been eating.

How cool is Reebok to send your kids some shoes too?! So great. 😀 Those t-shirts ROCK – I would LOVE to win one! I tweeted this morning about how my drive to #getafterit got me through my workout, and here’s my plan for the week to keep that up: focus on shorter, higher intensity workouts. I’ve been flip-flopping between runs and lifting heavy and then doing HIIT…I think I need to focus a bit. And committing to a shorter workout but knowing that my intensity needs to be high keeps me motivated because I think, “Yeah! I can do that!” So that’s this week’s plan. 😀

Thanks for the giveaway, K! Crossing my fingers – Love those shirts.

Back at it!

This week (well I actually started last Friday but am continuing this week!) I am trying all new classes at the gym where I teach- classes I don’t teach and instructors I don’t know. It sounds simple but just because you teach classes and get in your own groove, you start centering in on that one thing and I was like, wow I need to branch out! Kick N Core, Power Pacing, and Body Pump are all on the schedule this week as new-to-me instructors. I also teach Zumba & Zumba Toning 5 days a week , strength training 5 days a week and have a “real job” so it is going to be busy but hey, change is good and its a challenge to stretch the mind as well as the muscles! I’m getting after it this week by changing it up 🙂
and I love my Reebok Zigs! Not just beacause of the awesome colorway (pink & purple- purple is the “grown up pink” right?!!) but they last me all day of 3/4 classes & workouts and still feel good when I lace them up. Good stuff!

This week to “get after it” Ill be continuing the peak of my marathon training for the Jacksonville Fl marathon on Decemeber 16th. This week ill be hitting a weekly mileage of 70miles, with a 24 miler this coming Saturday. Doesn’t seem all that bad except for the fact that this weekend I’ll be going down to my boyfriends parents house for a friends wedding. They live on a little island in South Florida that is only 6miles long and 1.5 miles wide. Soo it looks like this long run will be a little repetitive by running up and down the island 3 times. 🙂

Here’s what I’ve done so far this week to ‘get after it’. Monday, did a HIIT workout with bands on my lunch hour(rainy and windy at lunch so no running 🙁 Monday night, taught step class and indoor cycling. Tuesday before work, got up and did a killer leg workout in my basement and then just did a Tabata workout on my lunch. Wednesday, I’ll get up early before work and do some skipping and core work. Lunch hour depends on the weather, run or walk, or have to bring a DVD to work. Thursday, I’ll get up early before work and do a HIIT workout. Lunch hour will be a run or walk, weather depending. Not sure about Friday yet as two of my girls have a hockey tournament. Saturday morning will be intermediate step and a HIIT class, then weights after. Sunday morning will be indoor cycling and some weights! whew! A run this week would be nice.

I just love you more and more whenever I read your blog! Umm pretty pumped that we have the same Flex Fusion sneakers and Crossfit headband. That pink top looks great on you and heck yes those fleece pants look amazingly cozy. I want to crawl into some. DYING over the little Reeboks. I think little kid shoes are the cutest thing ever. If I ever have a little girl she is totally getting baby Uggs and baby Toms.

So far this week I have been able to #getafterit each day. I did the StepMill intervals Sunday and yesterday, along with arms yesterday. Today I did Tone It Up circuit, legs, and ab workouts!

I just finished my last race of the season on Saturday, so I am moving into my “off-season”. I just ordered the book Run Less Run Faster so that I can avoid the treadmill boredom over the long, cold Minnesota winter. This week I am trying to take it easy with some nice shake out runs and lots of interval training. Do those sweatpants come in long inseams, they look heavenly?

  110. 110

THIS Friday (11/2) I’m going to push it up to 100 steps/min. Some of the most intense cardio, I just have to remember that as long as I can breathe I’m fine and just keep pushing!

Starting this past Monday, so I’m up to three days now, haha, I’ve been setting my alarm for 20 minutes earlier and trying to get some sort of workout in before work. It always makes me feel better, but it’s such a hard habit for me to stick to, I need to be out the door by 6 a.m., so here’s to trying again!

  120. 120

I am doing some runs and weight training this week to get after it!

  121. 121
    debbie says:

I ran the October marathon & a women’s 9k, but now the weather is getting cooler & dark on the Chicago mornings, so I’ve swapped out my morning runs to Insanity workouts & am loving it!
I LOVE Shawn T, however I do miss my running highs.
But, I’m getting strong & love getting my “fit on”!

  122. 122
    Lauren S. says:

It’s 10 days since I ran my last marathon and to get back after it I’m setting up my own little home gym station this week! This will give me NO excuse now to get in some weight training, stretching, and foam rolling — even on off days! #getafterit!

  123. 123
    Jessica says:

I’m getting after it by teaching my Halloween night spin class IN COSTUME and encouraging my spinners to dress up!

  124. 124
    Susi Hansen says:

Hi Kristen–I love that the boys are ‘modeling’–how adorable!! I am not at home so I am walking 2x day (exercising my little ‘charge’ also), riding the stationary bike every other day, and enjoying this view (from the 3rd floor) of the ocean in San Clemente! Life is rough!

  125. 125

I love these shirts! I’m running a half marathon on Saturday and trying to let my shin splints heal, so I’m taking it easy this week with lots of yoga and walking.

  126. 126

I realized early this morning that I’ve managed one workout in the past 2 weeks! And fueling that with lots of halloween candy. I’m noticing it in my body and my mind AND my spirit. So this week I’m going to “get after it” starting with back to back yoga tonight (family yoga class with the girlie followed by grownups only power vinyasa). Exactly the reset I need to get back to my groove.

  127. 127
    Jessica says:

  128. 128
    Anna says:

I’m working REALLY early this week to cover for a co-worker. I’m getting up at four and working long days so the way that I am getting after it is making myself go workout after work even though I just want to go home and lay on the couch. Not terribly crazy but it is hard work!

  129. 129

It will also be great to do when I teach PE in January for after school workouts! Excited! Thanks for all your posts Kristen! 🙂

  152. 152

SOOOO stinkin’ cute, your boys! This week I’m getting after the cross training. I took most of last week off, so finding my running legs again since I just signed up for another half in two weeks, and going to #getafterit with that box jump this week rather than get stuck in my lack-of-coordination head and not try for fear of falling. 😉

Getting after this week by starting the week (Sunday) by completing the Merrell Down & Dirty Mud Run. Continuing the week training for my next half marathon (32 days away) and focusing on my ITB exercises to run pain free :-). Relating to the kids shoes, my son had a pair of the Reebok Real Flex shoes that he absolutely loved…he was very bummed when his “76 running buddies” went missing from his PE locker.

My name is Kelly and I have been following you on Instagram! Just wanted to let you know how helpful and inspirational you can be! I started following you this summer during my marathon training. I recently ran the Chicago Marathon, my very first one, :), with a time of 03:52:07! I exceeded my goal and ran it under 4! Yay me!
Anywho, since the marathon, I have lightened up on the running and am hitting to gym to build some muscle to make me faster so I can qualify for Boston next year! (Or at least by the time
    I graduate college)
I definitely got after it yesterday by getting up earlier before my 8:30 class to get in a leg workout! Feeling the burn today! Hurts so good! Regardless of the contest, I just wanted to know that you’re awesome and I am
Very happy that you are a mother of twins! (I am twin myself) you rock! Yay for Reebok!

  161. 161
    Kristen says:

I’m getting after it this week by upping my training paces…it may not be much, but I’m working towards a half marathon PR in January and this is how I’m going to get after it – a PR that is!

  162. 162
    Claire says:

To get after it this week, I am working out at times that I HATE so I can get ‘er done. I’m in university, and this time of the year is a bit crazy. I have twenty bajillion things to do, but no way am I sacrificing my gym time! Or my foam rolling and stretching time. Both act as my breaks from school work and class..gotta keep sane after all!

  163. 163
    Madaleno Martinez says:

I’m getting after it this week by cutting back on strength training and incorporate more reps with all the gains that I have achieved with the strength training…also getting back into focusing on the snatch…my goal before being stationed at San Antonio is to snatch 185 pounds, I have 9 mths, I better get after it

Also incorporating skill learning such as Muscle-ups and Handstand push-ups because I see people like Rich Froning Jr doing it and I’m like I got to do that! I also do it because I love challenging myself. 🙂

  168. 168

    Kerri says:

Although I am beyond thrilled that I PRd in my half marathon this past Saturday (and won first place in my age group!!! Yes, that would be the 40-45 yr olds…ahem!!) I have decided that I have missed being able to touch my toes and therefore I am starting yoga classes this week. This is truly going out on a limb for me… I tried a video and it bored me to tears. If someone tells me I have 54 minutes to live, I will do this video because that was the LONGEST 54 minutes ever!! Also, I am not much on “group fitness” because it is so hard to get to a class at a set time! (With 4 children my schedule is no longer my own.) But I used to be so flexible…and when I increased my mileage and started doing hill repeats and wind sprints it all just went away. So look out yoga, because I fully intend to “get after it”!!

  191. 191
    Sherry says:

I’m “getting after it” with trainer. He has up’d my weights and added 2 more cardio sessions. It’s a great stress relief since I have been experiencing some big struggles with life lately.
