Day 2 of Holiday Giveaways- A Signed Book For You

Day 2 of Holiday Giveaways- A Signed Book For You

Well hello friends!

Yesterday’s workouts:

Short 3 mile treadmill jog.

Taught 45 minute BOSU Blast class at the gym.

Treadmill run- 5.5 miles with 4 of them mile repeats at AT pace with 1 minute rest in between. My pace for the repeats was 6:44 for the first 2 miles, 6:40 for the third and then 6:35 for the forth.

Yep, even with an old episode of Friends on to distract me, it was rough. Eating an entire kabocha squash for lunch with all the fixings was not the best idea before a pretty intense run.

Oh, you want to see our lunch date?

The boys got whole wheat SunButter sandwiches, Costco Seaweed Snacks, roasted squash (they’re not big fans) and a fuyu.

Just a grand old time (I don’t look tired at all or anything)

2012-12-04 14.20.17

with a grand old huge bowl of roasted sweet squash (kabocha and delicata) with some GNC vanilla dream protein frosting, PB2 pumpkin dip (recipe to come), Better’n Peanut Butter and regular peanut butter.

Perfect running fuel. Ha.

Kicking Off STUFT Mama’s Favorite Things

For today, since I’m a little extremely tired and I’m blaming my extra training from my coach, I have a little running related surprise for you.

I went to Road Runner Sports last week to meet up with Coach Jason for the release of his new book  Running a Marathon for Dummies.

2012-11-28 18.40.01

Obviously I liked the book so much that I not only bought one for myself, but bought one for one of you.

2012-11-28 18.33.24

I couldn’t resist. It’s such an easy read and pretty much gives you everything you need to know including three different 20-week training plans (beginning, intermediate and advanced). One of those plans actually looks pretty darn similar to the one he’s got me on. Hmmm….. Interesting.

One of you lucky winners and I could be training buddies. That’ fun, right? He he.

Here’s a little peak at the book contents.

2012-12-05 00.48.04

He even shares a little bathroom racing story in there (p. 276). We’ve all had one of those a time or two, haven’t we? Remember mine at the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon?

Which reminds me, ever since that race I’ve gotten smart about my incognito diaper wearing when needed. I was even quote on Shape.com the other day.

10 Strange but Effective Tips for a Better Marathon

I’m still not sure if that’s something I should be proud of or not.

2012-11-28 19.05.01

I have a signed copy of the book to give way. I also picked up some fun little magnet flashlights.

2012-11-28 18.33.30

I’ll throw one in there for you too!

I also managed to shove some Power Bars in my cool bag, but I’m not sure they’d travel well, so I’ll just hang on to those.

2012-11-28 18.33.35

I’ll make up for it with a Flat Kitty. That’s fair.

So, for DAY 2, you will get:

a signed copy of Running a Marathon for Dummies,

a cool magnet flashlight

your very own Flat Kitty.

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment here telling me your running goals for this upcoming year if you have any. A certain pace, distance, race, etc.

Or…. just your thoughts on running. Love it, hate it, training for something, want to run a marathon, don’t even want to watch a marathon, will only do it while watching Kelly and Michael on TV (that will be me this morning), etc.

You can tweet this for an additional entry:

I want to win a signed copy of @runcoachjason ‘s new book, Running a Marathon @ForDummies from DAY 2 of @stuftmama ‘s Holiday Giveaways. http://ow.ly/fPXNe

Open to U.S. residents only. Giveaway will run until 11:00 pm Thursday, December 6th. I’ll announce a winner Friday morning.

BUT and I wish I could make this BUT bigger ……I finally realized if others have the determination and will/power to overcome huge weight loss, diabetes, and being able to walk after doctors told them they may never walk again …. I, yes I, can train, strengthen and eat right if I really want to start enjoying running again.

So that is my goal….do all the above and run a 10-miler on March 9th….time won’t matter…just doing it free of pain and knowing the hard work paid off will be priceless.

My goal for this year was to run a half-marathon in under 2 hours, but that didn’t quite happen (got injured in mile 8!), so that’s my goal again! Woo!

My running goal for 2013 is to be able to run. An ankle issue has kept me from my beloved running since August. I’ve been to 6 doctors and no one can tell me what’s wrong, yet I can’t run. Frustrating to say the least. But I’m keeping my hopes high that I’ll be able to run soon and I hope to run a half marathon by May, with a time of 1:47 or better.

Thanks for the chance to win!

Hoping to make the time to add some races to my training. May focus more on running and less on classes.

  25. 25
    Lora Lee says:

I am wanting to run my first full marathon in February at the 26.2 with Donna in Jacksonville, FL, the only marathon that 100% benefits breat cancer awareness and research. It’s an awesome, fun race with over 20,000 participants last year. Plus, it’s a nice flat Florida course in (normally) mild weather (except last year-extremely bitter cold!). You should look into it!
Anyway…I am in training for the race & ran14 miles last week. It was not fun nor was it pretty. I’m hoping other factors (like heat, fatigue, and dehydration ) were going against me that day. That’s my excuse.
In any case, I’m always eager to read different takes on training for marathons and the title of this book probably fits me perfectly! 🙂

  26. 26
    Cass says:

Yay! I was hoping you’d be giving one of your coaches books away! My goal for the beginning of the year is a sub 2 hour half marathon, and my goal for the end of the new year is to conquer my first full marathon!

WOW – this would be awesome! I’ve done a few 1/2 marathon’s, but never thought a full marathon would be something I would or even could accomplish. So, if I read this, my mind and goals might just change!! As far as a running goal. I’d like to run another 1/2 this coming spring/summer, but try not to stress so much about it, find the love for it again.

I set a goal of running my first half marathon next year, and while I’m hating running in the cold here in Buffalo, I know when I’m running next summer…I’ll be praying for snow!

  41. 41

My goals for next year are to REALLY amp up my run count and maybe even start a blog about it. This year I’ve ran 2 5k’s. One a night run and the other a Mud run. I also have my very 1st 1/2 marathon I’m doing at the end of this month. VERY nervous about it right now, but I’m still trying to train strong for it. Next year I plan on doing 9 runs so far including 5 mud/obstacle runs with 4 being about a 5k and 1 being 10-12 miles, and 4 regular 5k’s. One of the regular 5k’s I’m actually looking at hosting my own for awareness and research for Prader-Willi Sydrome (the syndrome my son has). And still looking for more runs to do.

My running list on FB since I don’t currently have a blog:

Interesting time for this giveaway! While I’ve been running for years (and on a streak for about 3 years now) and have run a few races (including 5ks and HM), I just announced to dear hubby that my next big thing to do before turning 40 (which only gives me less than 2 years) is to run a marathon! With work, raising 8 year old twins, etc., I just need that extra bit of help to get the marathon training in! This book seems ideal for this momma!

    • 43.1
      STUFT Mama says:

You have 8 year old twins? Boys or girls? Does it get easier? (Mine are turning 3 this month.)

      • Mary Ann says:

Yep, one of each- the best of both worlds, right 🙂 Well, does it get easier? Depends… while you find yourself have to do less of some things (ie, entertaining them, keeping them out of places, etc.), you find yourself doing much more of other things (ie, transporting them to and from activities, homework, and acting as the constant referee). I can honestly say, that twins are a true blessing and I would NOT change it for the world. Would I like more “me” time, more help, less stress.. of course! But still, worth every ounce of energy (even if it means waking up at 3am to get my TM run in; off to work from 5-3; home at 4 only to begin dinner, chores, homework, and after school activities!)! I am amazed by how much you actually get accomplished during the course of your day- you are seriously one awesome running momma!

Hmmm…I love running and wonder why I do! LOL…
I am not sure when I can stop calling myself a ‘new’ runner. Been running since May, have run 10 races and my 11th is on Sunday. My current 5k PR is 26:18, my most recent race and it was horrible with a stupid huge long hill at the end was 26:45. Not too bad for 6 months of running and a young 44 years old, right?!
I will be bumping up to 10k’s next year and I am registered for my 1st Half in May. (Cleveland Marathon)
I would LOVE to get my pace under 8:00, and it is do-able! 🙂
Thanks for putting together these giveaways and I am not so sure about that diaper quote…

I started running for fitness a few years ago and in 2010 ran a half with a friend. I thought if I can run 13.1 why not 26.2? So I did Boston for charity in 2011. And then I ran CIM in 2012! I am totally hooked and looking forward to LA 13.1 in January and LA marathon in March. I made it through just running on my own but would love tips and advice on how to get faster. Would be great to run Boston again by qualifying!

  101. 101
    Amanda says:

I wouldn’t consider myself a ‘runner’ (yet), but one of my fitness goals for 2013 is to complete a mini-marathon which is scheduled for April. Yikes!
For a little extra motivation, I recently purchased a 13.1 car decal and am using it as a visual to keep motivating myself. On that day, when I cross the finish line (regardless of my time), I’m sticking that bad boy in my car!! : )

  102. 102

    Wendy Diedrich says:

I just started running in June (2012), having never run a day in my life before that. I find that I am enjoying it more than I thought I would and I hope to work up to a half-marathon a year from now.

  111. 111

I would love to win this because a full marathon is my next goal! I have now finished three half marathons (two this year) and I really want to tackle a full and have no idea where to start. This would be the perfect way to make it happen in 2013!

  112. 112
    Jamie A. says:

Would like to be injury free enough to run 3 half marathons next year!!

  113. 113

Running goals for 2013 – 1:40 half marathon! Or I’d be happy with a sub 20 5k. Or just being able to run more races:)

My goal for 2013 is to run my first full matathon:)! I plan to train using the book Run Less Run Faster by Runner’s World!

    Melissa Chehade says:

This year I’m planning on running my 2nd marathon, which will hopefully be the Eugene, OR marathon in April. I just had a baby, so this is my “get back in shape post-baby” marathon! I don’t have a specific time goal, but if all the stars align I would love to run a sub-4. We’ll see how much training I get done with 2 kiddos!

  120. 120
    Amanda says:

I would like to run two half marathons. I haven’t ran one in almost 2 1/2 years and I really miss it, so time to get moving!

  121. 121
    Joanne De Luca says:

I have my eyes on the marathon, and have been preparing myself to start training for one throughout the winter. I’m considering the Ottawa Marathon in May right now, but depending on how things go I may shoot for an October marathon and do a few halfs in between and improve my half marathon time instead. Going the distance is what’s challenging me the most right now, trying to keep my head in the game and run longer is what I’m striving for.
I am so clueless when it comes to marathon training. I’ve googled and read tons of articles but I’m still so lost. Perhaps a “For Dummies” approach is in order!
And of course, be very proud of the diaper!!!! 😀

  122. 122
    Leah P says:

I have a goal to Learn how to run without getting injured! I would love to run a marathon one day 🙂

  123. 123
    Katy says:

2013 running goals include: first and foremost, stay injury free; master proper running fuel/hydrating (while running); and then timewise – PR in half marathon (under 1:39). 2013 might be the first year in awhile that I don’t train for any marathons … we’ll see if I have the self-control to resist the 26.2!

  124. 124
    Brandy says:

A goal of mine would be to get to enjoy running! I am sure it is hard for you to hear that, but I so wish I was one of those people that just “went out for a run”.

  125. 125
    Ryan says:

I just want to run a marathon. I missed the one I was training for this fall due to a stress fracture. I have another one on the calendar so I am giving it another try!

In 2013 I’d like to run a sub 1:50 half marathon. I could use a little motivation to train well like say a book! Honestly I’d be pretty excited to get a flat kitty too. I think he’d get along well with my dog Big Ben.

  128. 128
    Lisa says:

I’m not certain of all my 2013 running goals yet, but there are for sure.
Train for a PR in my spring 1/2 marathon, break 23:XX for 5K and think about when I will run my next marathon. I guess this book might be just the thing to help!

  129. 129
    Abby J says:

My running goals for the upcoming year, as sad as this is to say is to run my first 5k or 10k. I still have yet to run in a race. I want to run it with my Mom who is 55 and runs 5 days a week! She’s so amazing and I want her to be there to cross the finish line with me.

  130. 130
    Susan says:

This year, after having had 3 surgeries in 26 months, I *will* break 2:15 for my half marathon!

  131. 131
    Laura says:

Well, my main running goal is to continue to be healthy and able to run 🙂 But, I wouldn’t mind getting a Half Mary PR (which would be breaking 1:46).

    Elena says:

My goal for 2013 is to shave some serious time off my marathon time (first one was this year and 4:30. I would LOVE to hit under 4 hours BUT would be happy to have marathon number 2 be 4:15 or better……..

  134. 134
    Susi says:

Hi K–I used to have dreams of running a marathon–about 35 years ago (were you even born yet?) Had a coach and everything–he used to frustrate me by running backwards while I was trying to set to his pace…arrgh!! I half way ran the Susan G Komen 5K last year–silly me signing up with marathoners, what was i thinking? So maybe this is my incentive to get going again. I love your posts and pictures!!

  135. 135
    Robin L. says:

Run 5 timed races in 2013 (probably only 5-10K) and keep track of my time, I’ve done many in the past but never really paid attention to my time.

  136. 136

My goals for next year are to run 13 half marathons and get a sub 30 5k!

  137. 137

I’m running my first two marathons within two weeks this December and next year my goal is to rack up as many marathons as I can and do an ultra for my 30th bday!

  138. 138

I’m toying with the idea of a half marathon…toying. I have made no commitments yet, but I really think I want it. I’m increasing my milage and so far, so good! I’m happy with how I feel and happy with where I’m going so far. Congrats on the mention in Shape…I think. I laugh every time I think of you doing that!

  139. 139
    Nicole says:

I ran my first marathon in September and loved it! Unfortunately, I am going to be busy going back to college this winter, so my goal is to complete a half-marathon in the spring and in the fall. My long-term goal is to complete another marathon in the spring of 2014!

  140. 140
    Karen says:

My running goal for next year is to finally run a marathon. Running one has just not been in the cards for me for the past two years. Who knows? I might even enjoy it and be crazy enough to run more than one!

  141. 141
    Heather C says:

I have learned over this past year that running is probably not for me. I have had to come to the realization that it’s ok because it’s not for everyone. However, my PT is an awesome runner working towards her first marathon and I would give this to her if I won.

  142. 142
    Glen says:

Last year I finished the track season with a 1020 2 mile and I’d love to break 10 this year!

  143. 143
    Pam G. says:

Last March I started exercising again after many years of being a busy mom, working, and returning to school for another degree. I was introduced to OCR by my trainer and I am hooked! Love it! Running isn’t my first passion but I can get it done when I have to. One of my coworkers just went out on maternity leave and, to get herself back in shape after the hoildays, has roped me in to running a half marathon with her in the Spring. Excited!

  144. 144
    Karla says:

I’m definitely a running dummy! I would love this book!

  145. 145

Ok, I need that book. I am contemplating my first marathon this Feb!! I need to read this to see if I just need to stick to halfs!

  146. 146
    Sue says:

I love running. It (and wine) is the only reason I haven’t gone completely batshit crazy already. My goal is another marathon PR and possibly a 50K.

  152. 152

Sorry I had to butcher the spelling & all, but the post verbatim is over the twitter limit.

Goals for 2013: Run my first half marathon, Run my first real marathon, Rub a Sub 28min 5K, Run a Sub 57min 10K.

  157. 157
    Amy C. says:

My goal for the upcoming year would be to run a full marathon. The only thing keeping me from going for it is that I always get really bad calf cramps towards the end of a half marathon. I have tried just about everything and can’t seem to shake the cramps….. 🙁 Maybe this book could give me some advise!

  158. 158
    Leigh S. says:

I don’t have any really well-defined running goals for 2013. I just want to keep healthy and keep running, mainly. That and I have a few races I want to repeat to see if I can improve my times (and, overall, I’d like to simply improve my post-baby PRs; a dream would be to approach my B.C.–before children!–times). A nebulous goal is that I might try doing a 10K and a half-marathon (a racing first for both). Thanks!

  159. 159
    Jill says:

My goal for the coming year is to hopefully be healthy enough again to run my 3rd 1/2 marathon! I’ve run 2 of them in the past year but for the past 6 months I’ve been suffering from terrible shin splints that came out of nowhere! I’ve gone to an orthopedic DR and a PT and nothing has helped! I’m starting to get really frustrated. I’ve even taken a few weeks off here and there hoping rest would help, to no avail. I’d love any feedback anyone might have with chronic shin splints – perhaps this book touches on the topic. Thanks so much!

  160. 160
    alex m says:

My goal for 2013 is just to be more consistent with my running. Not going 4 times a week for 3 weeks and then taking 2 months off!

    Sandy says:

My goal is to run 13 races in 2013!

  168. 168

I’ve run about 10 marathons with my best ones at sub 3 hours. The training it took to get there was exhausting while trying to have a life too and it didn’t help that I’m super competitive with myself and against others. Therefore, I finally burned myself out and don’t follow any running plan. Instead, I’m following a strength gaining regimen and running just whenever I feel like it. I’m sure I’ll be back at it since I want to run more marathons in other states, but for now….no thanks!!

  169. 169

I tweeted about your giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity to win!
