Day 10- My New Favorite Shoes (For You of Course)

Day 10- My New Favorite Shoes (For You of Course)

This will be quick. I’ll get right to business. You need to hear about these amazing new shoes and find out about today’s giveaway. Plus I’ve got a little, um, situation over here.

None of them have been addressed yet. None. My addresses are somewhat updated though. Woo! Go me.

I’ve also got this going on.

2012-12-13 08.42.34

My daily GNC Women’s Wellness Vitapak and a strong coffee.

Happy Monday!

Okay, well, let’s just get right into it and talk about gear. I was going to go into some deep thoughts on doubt, but that might be a little too much for a Monday morning. I’ll save it. You’re welcome.

Mizuno just came out with the new Wave Inspire 9 shoes. I was lucky enough to receive two pairs.

For awhile my go to shoes have been the Mizuno Wave Nirvanas for long runs and the Elixirs for races and faster runs.

I was introduced to the Inspires when I first got to join the Mezamashii Run Project.

They’ve been growing on me ever since this post

I use them a lot for treadmill runs or shorter runs. They’re a great in between shoe, not as much support as the Nirvana, but not as light as the Elixir.

I’m a moderate over pronator and need a shoe with a little support. These were the perfect solution.

Well, that is until the new 9’s came out.

Totally my favorite new shoes.

The fit is so comfortable. They updated the heel fit a bit and it feels so light when you run.

They come in two new colors.

Even my photo shoot helpers were impressed with these new kicks.

He he.

I took the anthracite pair out for a run first because I didn’t want to get the other ones dirty.

2012-12-08 14.33.11

It was love at first run.

They have since been finding their way into my gym bag for extra motivation to make sure I fit in my run. No excuses if they’re in the bag, right?

2012-12-10 18.43.052012-12-13 09.19.04

The other day I even tried out the blue ones. Only for a treadmill run though (you know, so they didn’t get dirty). And yes, I wear my slippers to the gym. So classy.

What’s in it for you for Day 10 on STUFT Mama’s Favorite 12 Days of Holiday Giveaways?

These amazing shoes of course.

But, that’s not all.

Mizuno is so great that they’re throwing in a a bundle of a hat, gloves and arm warmers.

Holy smokes. I can not express how much I love this company.

The Breath Thermal gear can be found here on Mizuno’s Top Ten Holiday Gifts.

I was sent a pair of the warmers and the gloves a couple months ago when I was in Pennsylvania for the Runner’s World Half Marathon. I never had to use them there since the weather was pretty warm, but the other day it was chilly here in Southern California so I decided to give them a try.

I took off my cool Mizuno jacket (nice shot, huh?)

and put on the Breath Thermo Arm Warmers.

It’s not easy to try to take pictures of yourself.

2012-12-15 10.31.03

I decided not to wear the Breath Thermo Gloves, but someone wanted to show you how cool they are.

Ha ha.

So for Day 10…..

kitty holiday giveaway

We’re giving away a pair of Mizuno shoes and a bundle of a Breath Thermal hat, arm warmers and gloves from my ABSOLUTE favorite running shoe company.

Inspire 9 shoes

Me- My feet are so flat it’s not even funny. My second toe is longer than my first. (I’ve heard it means I’m a leader.) I just lost a toenail for the umpteenth time.

    Cassandra says:

My favorite running shoes are Mizuno Wave Precision’s. They are a comfortable, light-weight, all purpose shoe in the neutral category. I love them because they provide just enough cushioning, but without all the extra weight cushion shoes provide. Even being 23 weeks pregnant, they still provide my feet with the cushion and support they need. They fit my feet to perfection!!!

I wear Wave Inspires for longer runs and Elixirs for tempos, intervals and marathons/halfs. I also have a pair of the Mushas but since having problems with my feet recently I had to throw those in the closet, they lack the support I need. My left foot has a decent size corn near the heel that I have been attempting to “burn” off with Salicylic Acid. Thanks for yet another opportunity to win a pair, you rock!

    Kim Hodges says:

As I started running this year, I made the mistake of buying shoes just because of the hype. I already had a pair of the Mizuno Inspire 7’s but I wanted what all the big timers were wearing. Surely it would improve my time! Nope! Just hurt me. So I have two pairs of neutral support shoes that I can no longer wear but I have gone back to my original inspires and am having great luck out of them even with mileage already on them.
I also only wear Injinji toe socks!! My second AND third toe are longer than my big toe! So normal socks pull my toes under and cause my foot to cramp. It doesn’t happen with Injinji! Love them!
    Love you too!

I have tried every type of shoe and Mizuno’s are my absolute favorite! After standing in heels at work for several decades my feet are a bit of trouble…a bunionectomy, a bout with metatarsalgia, the dreaded black toenails, overpronation. I still stand at work but at this job in retired runnning shoes! I love running and Mizuno’s are my cure, I’ll never stop…

  45. 45
    Mary says:

I’m new to the whole Mizuno awesome-ness, I have to say I love them. I ran in minimal shoes before I got the Wave 16’s and haven’t taken them off for runs since I’ve put them on my feet! I definitely like a neutral shoe. I’m a pretty neutral gal. 🙂 I would love to win these to further advance my state into Mizuno awesome-ness. My index toe is also longer than my big toe. I went to the Bonnaroo music festival and was getting fitted for a toe ring and the lady referred to my toes as lolli pop toes b/c they’re skinny except for the tips of my toes. So, theres what’s interesting about my toes…I have lolli pop shaped toes. Good stuff.

I love the grey pair, absolutely lovely! I love running in a minimalist shoe.. or close to as minimal as possible. Anything heavy and I can’t get into the groove of my run, that and I feel like I’m clobbering around the streets. My toes are actually super tiny! I bet my toes are probably the same length as the boys!

  54. 54
    Nikki says:

I have yet to find the perfect shoe. I wear Saucony or Asic and they are fine but I’ve been really wanting a pair of Mizunos. I have high arches and narrow feet!

I actually wear Mizuno Wave Creation 13s, they are a neutral shoe. Although I will probably try the Wave Elixirs for my next shoes to give myself some support.

  56. 56

  70. 70
    Lizzie says:

i have ridiculously flat feet, too! and i’m a pronator, too! i just got some Altras and am in the process of breaking them in. so far i like them. totally different from my aisics that i’ve been running in since i became a runner.

  86. 86
    Amy says:

This is the most awesome giveaway EVER. I love Mizunos and I too have really flat feet. I need them for the arch support and they are truly the only running shoe that fits like a glove. My local running store told me that if you wear Mizunos and you like them, you will never chose another shoe. They love a specific type of foot! I heard the longer toe means you are going to be rich….

  87. 87

I usually wear neutral shoes, but they have to have good cushioning!

  88. 88
    Christine says:

Im currently using the inspire 8s and really like them;) I usually by a support shoe bcuz i overpronate

AGH~ I am soooo excited for this giveaway!! I actually switched from Nikes to the MIzuno Wave Inspire 8 last month, and I am LOVING THEM! It has a little bit of support that I need, and keeps my feet feeling great! Thank you (and skinnyrunner) for the recommendation!! On a side note; funny fact about my feet: my middle toes are crooked, looking down you cant see my middle toe’s nail, it curves underneath–doctor told my mom it was because their was no more room for me to grow, so my toes started to curl!!! 🙂 Keep up the good work Stuft Mama!!!

I’ve had over 20 pairs of Mizunos and LOVE them! I’m alternating b/w Wave Rider 14s and 16s and Wave Precisions right now, so would love to try the Inspires! My husband and I were talking about my feet last night, as I was getting ready to paint them pretty for Christmas, and since we’re both runners, I of course made him check my feet out and asked him if he only saw my feet would he think I’m a runner 🙂 My feet are in super condition thanks to my Mizunos!

I had flat feet also! Had meaning after several months of barre work, I have an arch! Didn’t think that was possible but I’ve read similar accounts and it was verified at a great running store when I purchased orthotics from them. Would love to win a pair of running shoes but really like the arm warmers!

  119. 119
    KristenB86 says:

My second toes are longer than my big toes too! It generally means I lose those toenails (TMI?) during training seasons but I couldn’t be happier to have strong feet that keep me on the move!

  120. 120

I have a spur on my left heel.. not fun but it’s not keeping me from running.

Currently it was recommended that I run in stability shoes.

I alternate between Saucony and Asics, depending on what activity I’m doing. Both are great pairs of shoes, but I have been dieing to try the Mizunos!!! 🙂 I have lost 3 toenails, so I hide my feet a lot…or I paint them with a really pretty color to deter people from staring 😉

  122. 122

I literally just treated myself to the new mizzuno wave rider 16s after placing in a race I was training for and I’m absolutely in love with the support they give my arches so I would love to win a new pair! I wear neutral sneakers, but I’m always buying a new pair with the mileage I run:)

Support! And I’ve had my eye on these Mizunos!

I wear plain Sauconys that sort of match the ones I wore in high school.

  125. 125

After wanting to try the Mizuno shoes on badly for a while now I finally found them at Sports Authority in Honolulu. I have to say it felt amazing! I’m still craving Mizunos (even more so now) and hope I will be able to get myself a pair in the future.
And, to tell you something about my feet.. I have always thought my feet were ugly as hell, but believe it or not, since I started running I’ve been starting to love them. I look down at my feet (with high arches, blisters, calluses, and the left foot being half a size bigger than the right one) and all I can think is “you lovely little creatures, you’re doing so so good carrying me around on all these sweaty hard runs I’m going for”.
I’m thankful for my odd looking different sized feet! Finally!

    Carmen says:

I wear neural shoes, whatever I can find on sale at Running Warehouse since I need new shoes every 6-8 weeks with the mileage I’m doing! Would live to try these 🙂

  130. 130

Funny thing is–I wear Wave Inspires and have for 5 years!! 🙂 Love this shoe. I am a moderate pronater. I also wear Elixir for shorter and faster distances. I have the nastiest toe nails- I am in denial that its athletes foot! Its not…I swear!!! 😉

    Mackenzie Hamilton says:

Hi! I’m Mackenzie and I’m a runner! I run at least 5 miles a day.
I have the flattest feet ever and my second toe is longer than the first. I’m always getting blisters and loosing the toenail just like you! I have been running in Nike free 4.0 but with my flat fee it’s not helping my back and feet issue! I would love to win these shoes because running is my favorite and if I had a pair of shoes to help me with that, then I would be forever greatful!

    Thanks for the giveaway !

    Pick me !!

    Jennifer Murphy says:

I think my feet are falling! I seem to need more and more support as the years go on. I am currently using the highest arch (pink) of Sof Soles. Superfeet are too hard and hurt like a mother! Any suggestions for insoles. Anyone, anyone? To put in these new shoes? 😉

I wear a neutral shoe, the Mizuno Wave Creation 13. Love them, I have especially high arches, and they are the only shoe I will wear. I tried the Wave Rider 15s a few months ago, and as much as I love Mizuno shoes, they were not for me. Sticking with what I know works!

  144. 144

One major requirement I have for my running shoes is that they’re lightweight! I also have fairly narrow feet so it’s important that they fit well in that aspect too.

  145. 145

    Lora lee says:

I wear support for moderate pronation. I’ve tried other shoes and they don’t cut it. I have to have support.

  151. 151
    Marcia says:

My feet are SCARY….seriously. I was born with crooked toes – literally – the x-rays of my feet are hilarious. When I was first born the doctor said they could break my toes and reset them before I even would start to walk. My mom just couldn’t bring herself to know that they were going to break all my toes – YIKES! I’m glad she didn’t. Needless to say, I don’t go barefoot very often. There are only a couple on each foot that are pretty bad. I’d love to try these running shoes out – I’m always looking for a good shoe to run in that actually fits these crazy feet!

I wear a neutral shoe and would love to win Mizunos! My feet currently have toenails painted black and two are painted on. All in the name of training! Honestly YOU inspired me to enter the Nike Women’s Half Marathon lottery for DC and I got in!!! What a perfect way to kick of training in January and for an amazing race in some much needed new shoes!

I’m a support shoe kind of gal — but it’s tough because too much support is no bueno! Also, I have some seriously deformed feet. Second toe longer than all others by a bit + squished feet in the permanent shape of a high-heeled shoe from 16 years as a competitive figure skater = FUG CITY!

Mizunos were my first pair of real running shoes! I’ve gone through 3 pairs. I switched to Asics on my last pair but learned they definitely aren’t as amazing as Mizunos. Other than that I’m amazed at where my feet have carried me! 🙂

Where do I even begin with my foot issues. I have had double bunion surgery (Arthrodesis), which has corrected my bunions but has caused some numbing and soreness of the pads of my feet. Just this year I developed a morton’s neuroma, which I learned can only be cured with surgery. And I have tendinitis in the arch of my other foot from overcompensating on the right. Awesome. It has been really hard finding the right shoe that can accommodate long miles and ridiculous foot problems. Currently I wear Saucony’s, but I haven’t tried any Mizuno’s and would be willing to try anything!!

Random fact about my feet – I got a gel pedicure and after about a month all the polish peeled off my toes EXCEPT for my pinkie toes. So only my pinkie toes are bright red and the rest of my toenails are boring and unpolished. I took off my shoes after CrossFit the other day and thought my pinkie toes were bleeding!

Kristin–looks like everyone wants a pair of these shoes!!! Since I am a walker, not a runner (as yet???) I wear cross trainers. New Balance is usually my go to shoe. Toes–I have lost several toenails–mostly after the SGK 3 day 60 mile weekends. And now I am badly in need of a pedicure!!! My girl is going cringe when she sees my toes!! Love the self posing pictures–hahaha. Looks like you are doing plie’s (spelling??–you know, that ballet thing.) Have a great Monday!!!

I wear a neutral running shoe right now. My feet are a mess…I have a high arch in my right foot and a regular arch in my left foot. My left foot is a wee bit bigger than my right foot (makes buying dress shoes a pain), and my toes are very long.

I’ve been looking at Inspire’s for a little while, but haven’t made the leap just yet. Actually, when I went to order the 8s, they were out getting ready for the 9s to come out. I have been wearing New Balance shoes since the beginning of my running journey.

  307. 307

I wear a neutral shoe. Weird fact: My right big toenail falls off about every 3 or 4 years, it’s gross and always happens in the summer when i wear sandals all the time.

    Maddie says:

I’m still searching for my shoe nirvana. I had been wearing a moderate support shoe that was evidently too much for me, but the neutral shoes I’m wearing now aren’t my favorite either. Unfortunately, a wicked case of a torn Achilles has me sidelined for a month, so I can’t do much to try new shoes either. Blerg. Would love to find out if these Mizunos will Inspire me!!

  313. 313

Right now my favorite shoes are my asics. I am starting to train for a half marathon. This will be my first half! I am hoping these shoes will make it through the training being that I have had them for quite some time. I would love to win these shoes because they would be great to use for my half marathon training!!

    bethp262 says:

Lately I run in Brooks Ravenna (a light support road shoe). And I also have the longer second toe–they call that condition Morton’s toe, btw.
Would love to try Mizunos as I’ve heard lots of great things about them!

  316. 316

I usually run in shoes that are a bit on the minimalist side…I could use some shoes with more support for longer runs…and I still have all my toe nails! 🙂

While I really like the Wave Riders and am definitely a Mizuno convert I think I need a wee bit more support as I pronate a bit much for the Riders…..Inspires would be the go-to but I’m not sure the spouse is too keen on multiple pairs of running shoes! My doctor looked at my legs and said, “wow”. … don’t think that was a good wow! … I have custom orthotics, and I did not realize how much they were helping the pains in my legs until I decided not to wear them for a few weeks– BAD IDEA. 🙁 !! So, needless to say, any new sneakers I get will need my orthotics !

I would so LOVE to win this giveaway!!!! I am already sold on Mizuno and I normally wear the Wave Riders so I’m a “normal”, but I really want to add some trail shoes in the future for more trail running. I also have a longer second toe, but it’s weird because when I lost a toenail it was the THIRD toe on my left foot. Weird…

    I <3 Mizuno!

  463. 463

I love Mizunos!!!! I need lots of support in my shoes and Mizunos have been the best with that!!!! Something about my feet…..well, I have conehead toes! Hahaha! If I spread them all apart they are “coned”!!! I also have really small feet. I usually buy my shoes in the kids section (this saves some money too!!!)!

  469. 469
    Tyson Stewart says:

My feet are size 15s, which makes it hard to find a good shoe. I also always thought I had a flat foot, but I actually have normal arches, they just collapse on impact, and I also have a forefoot varus. Custom orthotics gave me my running back.

But best of all, my second toe is as long as my pinky, and I can pick up a tennis ball with my toes. Sick, huh??

I wear Mizuno Wave Rider 15s right now, and have a pair of the 16s in the closet waiting to get into the rotation.

    And I tweeted!

The Nirvanas are my go-to shoe and have been since I made the switch from NB in 2008. I’m SO glad to hear there’s another option for me! I am consistently “the worst overpronator” any running shoe specialist has ever seen. Apparently I practically strike on my outer ankle.

    Hey there STUFT MAMA!
I have just adored reading your posts over the last few months, and just wanted to let you know how thankful I am to be able to read your blog. Today, while attending a Vinyasa yoga class, we were asked to set an intention. I choose to give thanks to those around me who inspire me to endure pain, instability, or any obstacle to become my best self (you being one of them)!
About my feet, though. I have been a dancer since the age of three, hence my feet are not the most beautiful. As a young girl, I was always told that dancing would never develop into a career as I have very very flat feet and my second toe is extremely longer than my first. I am glad to say that I am proving all those people wrong and am a Dance and Nutrition Duel Major! I am just loving life, family, and friends! Happy holidays!!

  476. 476
    Erin says:

I actually just tweeted today how I spilled salsa on them to add to their already lovely state of disrepair. I wear neutral running shoes but should probably keep in mind that I broke two of my toes last Christmas in a drunken fight the corner of the kitchen island. I’d love for Mizunos to be my next pair!!!

  480. 480

    Michelle Balasa says:

I am a slight over pronator myself and have been wearing the asics GT 2170 shoes while I like them I am not in love with them by the time I like them the most it’s time to retire them. I actually just purchased the mizuno inspire 8’s after hearing good reviews on them can’t wait to take them out for a test run. Would love to try the inspire 9’s as well!

Okay, my feet are awful and they used to be cute! I have mild raynaud’s and in the winter my toes turn anywhere from red to purple to black. I have to be very careful to take good care of them. Have to keep warm and dry. Must wear good shoes always!! Really love to have these. May eventually have to have a type of surgery to help straighten a few toes so they don’t sqush each other. Sure everyone loves toreador this. Ha

  495. 495
    Jill P. says:

My second toe is also longer than my first, so it gets most sore from long runs. My big toe is usually fine! I have been running in Saucony Guides for a while but am now loving the Mizuno Elixirs, may need to get on board with more Mizunos!!! LOVE them! Thanks 🙂

    Leigh S. says:

I’m trying to find the perfect running shoe. So far, the best I’ve found, isn’t reviewed online and I haven’t talked to people who use it … but I really, really like it. It’s super-flexible, light, low heel-to-toe ratio, low stack height, pretty durable, and cool (as in lets in the air for my sweaty feet)–all in all, they’d be classed as minimal. I’d love to try some Mizunos. I haven’t gotten to them yet, though I’ve been reading a lot about them. Thanks for the chance, Kristin!

  513. 513
  514. 514

I wear Brooks (I switch between a few of their lines) and have a pretty moderate/neutral stride. I’ve tried on Mizunos at the shoe store, and I’ve liked them a lot, but I’ve been reluctant to change! I have to say though, Mizunos definitely win in the aesthetics category…they look so cool!

I currently wear Precision 13’s (the hot pink ones) and LOVE them! I’ve been training in them for the past few months and really enjoy them. They are super comfortable and I love the color! I agree, Mizuno is THE BEST!!! They are fantastic shoes. When I got fitted for shoes one place said I was Neutral and the other place said I was an overpronator, so not 100% sure which one I am.

Something odd about my feet: My right foot is slightly larger than my left, so I have trouble finding the perfect pair of running shoes – until I found Mizuno!

I would love to have another pair of Mizuno’s that have a little bit more support for my longer training runs though – so it would be a truly amazing gift to win the pair you are giving away. I’m training for my first half, which is in May, and my Mizuno shoes will be right there with me along the way. The arm warmers, hat and gloves will also come in handy as I have to train outside in cold Iowa weather!

I tweeted your contest (Sheryl_Bear on twitter). Thanks for the chance to win the shoes and arm warmers, etc.

So…I always have to have my toes painted all girly. No matter the season, no matter if my toes haven’t seen the sun in months, they must be painted. You never know when someone might see the toes.

I have been wearing Mizuno Inspires for a couple of years now (the 7th and 8th versions) and the Elixers to race in. I can’t express how much I love these shoes (inspires). My feet are utterly atrocious..flat (like makes Sasquatch prints in the sand flat), 4 bunions, haglund’s deformity on my R heel, and some permanent damage from crushing two metatarsals and repeated loss of toe nails. I really shouldn’t be comfortable..well, EVER and these shoes have been little pieces of heaven! I am so excited to experience the updates in the 9’s! Thank you so much for hosting these giveaways, you rock! 🙂

I would love to win these shoes. I have a very slight over-pronation, but a high arch, so I’ve had pretty good luck with a light stability shoe or wearing a neutral shoe with an insole. I’m coming back from tendonitis & having trouble finding the right shoes, post-injury. I’d love to try these Mizunos!!

  592. 592

My go to running shoes are Mizuno Wave Riders! And my feet are a little odd…first off, I have what I call “floppy toes”. By this, I mean that my pinky toes cross (or kind of “flop) over my other toes. I am also a supinator, which I guess is a little more on the uncommon side. I would love, love, love to win these shoes!!

  621. 621
    Sarah Barnes says:

I had ugly feet before I began running but I now I just use that as my excuse! ; ) I am not actually sure what kind of feet I have..I am passionate about running although I am very new to it. I started with “slogging” two years ago…slow jogging that is… I was the person who you try to stifle a giggle about when you pass..running so slow that it may be considered more of a fast walk but I stayed with it and I am now able to RUN for distances! And I love it. I would love, love, LOVE to try Mizunos!!!

I just bought Inspire 9 and my inner shin splint pain is gone and I just ran my first full marathon! I bought these shoes a week before my marathon cause I was desperate and needed my pain to go away. I got video tapped and found out I would pronate in, but not anymore! Forever a Mizuno fan!!

  625. 625
    Satoko Turnbull says:

I wear Puma faas 350 I bought for sale @ $45, but I wanted Mizuno. I couldn’t afford it, unfortunately. I would love to win! I have bad bunions, so my shoes need to be wide and roomy.

  627. 627
    Annette Bailey says:

I need a neutral running shoe.. Right now I have Brooks. They are ok. I have sensitive feet: They hurt easily and are much wider at the top than the ankle. All my toes fan off to the sides making the tops wider.
