Day 12- This Halo Better Help Me Out Here

Day 12- This Halo Better Help Me Out Here

I’m a mess right now. I have a feeling this blog post will be also. Consider yourself warned.

Thursday workouts:

Morning- 6 mile treadmill run.

Evening- Taught a HIIT class and strength training class.

2012-12-20 10.18.012012-12-20 10.19.32

A little matchy matchy yesterday all the way from my Halo headband and Yurbuds to my Mizuno Inspires and coordinating shorts. (Side note- I’m in love with my Reebok BOSE sport headphones, but went with the Yurbuds because I really wanted everything to match. Yes, I know I have a problem. It’s just one of many.) It looks like my favorite deodorant didn’t have it’s game face on yesterday. How nice.

Oh yeah, I got that new book in the mail. It Starts with Food.

I’m anxious to read it. I’ve heard such good things about it. Unfortunately my attempt to read it while on the treadmill failed, but I’ll make sure to fill you in as soon as I get a chance to check it out. Have any of you read it?

So, um, let’s see. What else?

This guy came up with a new little type of workout of his own.

2012-12-20 13.25.55

He may be onto something.

While he got his workout on, I whipped up a little something in the kitchen. For a quick snack to tide me over until lunch I scrambled some egg whites with cinnamon and stevia and ate them over spinach with melted coconut oil.

I thought it would be a bit plain, but it really wasn’t bad.

Speaking of egg whites, I just ordered two more huge jugs of egg whites yesterday. They have a special deal this month for free shipping.

Here’s the link to their store. (It’s an affiliate link, but to this day I have made a little more than $13. Raking it in. Ha.)

Egg Whites International

Here are the codes for free shipping.

You know you want some jugs. He he.

Oh, that reminds me. I got a little early holiday gift from my friends at Handful.

Yay! Love the new adjustable Handful bra and they even put in some extra Handful bra pads in there. Yay! I seriously wear them every single day.

I had every intention of getting the second half of my Christmas cards in the mail yesterday. Well, I came to find out that I didn’t order enough so had to order more that won’t be ready from Costco until noon today. Isn’t that nice.

Oh my. If I saw and heard this message one more time yesterday I was going to lose it.

2012-12-20 08.55.45

Siri is not my friend.

Kabocha squash is though.

2012-12-20 14.09.47

That was lunch yesterday. Yep, on the coffee table. Roasted kabocha squash with cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice and cocoa powder with vanilla protein frosting, peanutty chia pumpkin dip, two ingredient dark chocolate frosting and Naturally More Peanut Butter.

What am I going to do when it goes out of season?

I can’t even think about it. All I can do is stock up now.

Oh, and I’ve been forgetting to mention that we have some new snack bars we’ve been eating over here. We got some sample bars from 18 Rabbits.

All their bars are organic and they have kid friendly bars with super cute kid friendly names.

They also have mama friendly bars (also with super cute names).

My favorite- Cheeky Cherry Chocolate of course.

So last night after the gym I finally started my shopping. Yes, that’s right STARTED. I made sure I looked somewhat presentable and went for it after teaching my classes.

2012-12-20 19.41.01

I got a good start on my list. I also refrained from buying this for myself even though I really wanted it.

2012-12-20 20.16.18

Ha ha.

Dinner was late. Late enough I didn’t even have time to burn the veggies.

These two hot sauces have been finding their way on my roasted brussel sprouts and other vegetables lately.

That Just Chili Hot Sauce was a gift from my friend Niki and it’s darn good.

Whoa. Lots going on in that big bad bowl of mine last night.

Okay…. moving on.

Today I’ve got some Halo goodies for you.

I wore my Halo hairband all day yesterday (and the day before).

The Halo hat is my go to race and running hat. I first discovered the magic last year at The San Diego Half Marathon expo here.

The boys and I found our favorite hats again at the America’s Finest Half Marathon expo last August.

I can’t run in any other hat now after finding out how well these block the sweat from running into my eyes. I love them. LOVE them. I already have a black hat, a white hat and a pink hat.

2012-07-08 09.33.452012-08-23 12.44.012012-07-29 10.12.022012-08-19 08.42.12

(By the way, how classic is that picture of Judah picking his nose while sitting on my back. I forgot about that one. Ha.)

Well…. now I have a red one too.

Just in time for the holidays.

That’s not all. They also sent over some cute hairbands, the Halo II pullover and the new Halo V velcro.

So much fun stuff.

This is the sweat block seal that works wonders.

I’m super excited about this new velcro feature on the headbands.

I’m also super excited to give you a little something something.

Here you go.

    Renee says:

Do you eat the skin of the kabocha? I have only found 1 kabocha so far and it had black moldy things, maybe I will have to cut that part off since I have not found any other the last couple of months. Every time I check they still have that same moldy squash. I use a headband because I don’t have a hat yet. Maybe I will not have to use my broken sunglasses if I have a hat. I love shoping online and instore, which ever has the best deal.

Hat for running, definitely. On-line shopping rules!!! Don’t like malls and big box stores. If going to a brick and mortar, it’s a locally owned place — supporting local businesses rules, too!!

  52. 52

I run in a headband because I haven’t been able to find a hat that works for me, so this is perfect!

    Beth Petrassi says:

Hat when I run – sometimes a big floppy sun hat that looks absolutely ridiculous but you know I can’t expose this beautiful face to the aging affects of the sun – HA!!!
And I don’t shop online – I like to see and touch what I am buying first, since I often don’t take whatever item I am getting from the front as too many others have touched it… I like to pick the item I am getting and know where it came from on the shelf. (You think you have issues heehee!!)
Thanks for the workout last night, my glutes are feeling it!! Y50X – it’s a good time 🙂

  57. 57

Both. headband for inside teadmill running and hat for outside running. Always online shopping!

  61. 61
    Kori L. says:

Mainly headband, but love a hat on those days when you just need one! And, I’m an online shopper mainly because I live in smalltown Wyoming and for the good stuff, one has to travel to get to the good store and that’s not always do-able in the winter!

  62. 62
    Ashley says:

    I’m a total headband gal!

  63. 63

    Angela W says:

i like trying to be fashionable and wear sparkly headbands from BIC bands. i LOVE them! they don’t kept the sweat out but they stay put and look cute 😉 i sweat like a mad woman when i run so a Halo band or hat would be glorious!!

  69. 69
    Darbi says:

I’ve always worn a headband bc Ive never tried to run in a hat before!

  70. 70
    Breanna says:

When I run in a hat I feel like I get too hot – like the hot air can’t escape. So I run in a headband – I have one that is really good at wicking. That’s right I said ONE – ha – so there are lots of time when I can’t wear it because it’s full of yesterday’s sweat! Have an amazing Christmas!!

  71. 71
    eilizabeth says:

Hat and headband(Buff) over the ears this time of year. It was 15 on my run this morning.

  72. 72
    Samantha says:

Hat or headband when you run?
    Knit cap…please, this is WA.

Do you do your holiday shopping online or in stores?
I prefer the buying online. Sometimes the store is worth it just to see a treat for your feet.

Have a great day and good luck with the cards!

  73. 73

I am a headband girl – but I’m not opposed to hats. I do both online and instore shopping… mostly for myself ha.

  74. 74
    Allison says:

BOTH! I like hats if its sunny since I am not cool and don’t have “running” sunglasses but sensitive eyes. I like shopping online! Also we cheat in our house the BF sends me a link to what he wants and magically it comes to the door. Not romantic but functional which sometimes is what is needed!

  75. 75
    Cassandra says:

I typically wear a headband since I usually get my run in as the sun starts to rise. However, if I get going a little later than expected, I definitely go with the hat!

  76. 76
    Blair says:

I generally wear headbands when I run and this year I did half my shopping online and half in stores!

  77. 77
    Holly B says:

Hat to keep the sun out of my face. But I’m dying for that cute skinny headband for inside workout. I only bought 1 thing online so far for Christmas, but only because I started too late to get it in the store. Eeek!

  78. 78

I wear headbands ’cause I have a freakishly small head and must hats slip down.

  79. 79

I keep thinking that I need to get a headband/hat for running, but I never seem to make a point to actually get one.

Last year we did nearly all of our shopping online, this year it was more in the stores.

  80. 80
    Kari says:

I usually wear a handband, but only because I have never owned a hat!

  81. 81
    Sarah M says:

I usually wear a head band when running and working out, if it’s cold or really sunny a hat or visor. I haven’t tried Halo yet. I do a little online shopping and in store shopping. Just depends on what I’m looking for.
    Merry Christmas!

  82. 82
    Stephanie says:

I wear headbands when I work out at the gym (wearing a Halo headband right now, because I have Pilates in about 90 minutes) but wear a hat when I go for a long run outside. I wanted to buy a Halo hat when I went to the expo at the L.A. RnR Half Marathon, but they weren’t there! Boo.

  83. 83
    Kelsey says:

Hats on sunny days and bondi bands on overcast days. But if I had to chose, hats feel better so I’m not squinting. For Christmas shopping, it’s in stores (unfortunately I’m heading out right now to beat the crazy crowds).

  84. 84

Headbands for me…always. But I would be down for a hat!

  85. 85
    Janee says:

I love wearing hats when I run. They keep the sun out of my face as well as my hair out of my face.

I do about 85% of my shopping online and rest I fight the crowds. I enjoy going out and shop, I like to watch people. It’s comical how people react during the holidays. I do think you should wear your red hat!! We have so much to be Thankful for we have our beautiful children!!!

  87. 87
    morgan says:

headband! usually a double skinny band as I have a beanie head as my hubs says 🙂
and on-line shopping for everything from holidays to food as we are 140 miles from a town of any size!

hat! keeps the sun out of my eyes.

  90. 90

Headband always. No matter what. I have one wrapped around my wrist everyday. What if the one I’m wearing breaks? Never can be too sure… 🙂

  91. 91
    Amanda says:

Christmas shopping is done both online and in stores – just depends on the store and the item needed.

Running- prefer to wear a hat – dual purposes for blocking out the run rather than having two items on my head!

  92. 92
    Andrea (@FitLifeRun) says:

I wear a very beat up baseball hat when I run. This year I did most of my shopping in the stores. I love the decorations, and the music. It puts me in the holiday spirit!!

    Jill says:

I usually wear a hat when I run because I haven’t found a headband that stays put. In terms of shopping, I love online shopping. You can do it at the end of the day after everyone is in bed and the kids aren’t screaming around the store, out of control. 🙂

Love, love, love The Whole 30’s “It Starts with Food”. The program has changed my life.

Headbands. I do shopping both online and at stores.

Headbands. But would be open to a hat, especially when it’s summer and more sunny. I did most of my shopping in the stores this year. But did it early to avoid the crowd

  96. 96

I love the head bands!! A hat would be great for the summer time too!! Anything to keep the mess I have of hair out of my face!!

And not gonna lie i did all online shopping!! I was way too busy to even attempt to do real shopping. So I probably spent double with all the shipping costs I spent. Owell, it’s done right and that’s what counts right!

  97. 97

I think he is on to something 😉

I am always amazed at what you get down in a day!! You are super mom

    Amanda N says:

What I wear (or don’t wear) on my head during a run depends on the weather and how I’m feeling. If I want to feel pretty I’ll do a headband, if I want to stay warmer, or keep out the elements (sun/rain/cold) I’ll use a hat.

  102. 102

    Kayla says:

Always headbands, honestly never tried a hat!

  105. 105
    Apryle says:

Usually I wear a visor when I run. Been wanting to find a nice lightweight hat that works with a big ponytail. I shop half online and half in stores. I like to browse online late at night with a mug of tea or glass of wine. When I go to the store it is usually with my two kiddos, so I don’t get to browse much. I just get in and then out fast to minimize the damage 🙂

  106. 106

I like head bands best but I still like hats thanks to my softball days!

  107. 107
    Stacie says:

Headband every time! And I try to do most of my shopping online, so I don’t have to deal with the crowds. No matter how prepared I think I am, I *always* end up in the stores last minute, looking for the one thing I forgot!

I run in headbands to keep my hair out of my face!

Headband. 🙂 Most shopping is done in person cause it’s last minute!
Online works well for birthdays, for some reason.
Merry Christmas! Thanks for posting your days. They always
Make me smile. You are great! I miss our workouts.

    Cassie B says:

headband. Actually, a halo headband!! I LOVE it! I have the visor too, but, well, I have a big forehead and it sits weird on it, so I don’t really use it.

I did most of my christmas shopping online, but STILL have some to do. Teenage/preteen boys are HARD to shop for. All the stuff they want is expensive!

  114. 114
    Tracy says:

Headband for me, but only because I don’t have any hats!

  115. 115
    JennyV says:

Headbands are a must!! If I ran outside more I might go with a hat… But treadmill running doesn’t warrant a hat for me.

  116. 116
    Gabrielle (mareaviva) says:

Normally neither (though I still consider myself a newbie runner….so all these things might well change!): but I wear JackRabbit hat when it’s raining largely because otherwise the contacts get flooded out! Normally the crazy hair does drive me nuts so I think I should probably explore the whole headband thing….Lots to learn!

  117. 117
    Melaney says:

I definitely use a headband every run. I hate, hate hair in my face. 🙂 I did all my shopping in stores this year, but most years it is on line.

  118. 118

I wear a headband most of the time when I run, but I’m starting to love wearing a visor when I run outside. And I do most of my Christmas shopping online. Malls and stores this time of year stress me out. I do buy stocking stuffers at “normal” stores, though.

  119. 119
    Jill Morris says:

Hat outside to block the sun, band inside to hold my bangs. I did most of my shopping online this year bc of my new little one 🙂

  120. 120
    Caitlin says:

headband definitely…I don’t even own a hat to run in! And I do most of my shopping online.

  121. 121
    lorie says:

I wear a hat when I run, headbands seem to slip on me. Would love to try a hat and headband that helps with sweat..i am in Florida. Did any shopping online. Oh and I love he Bunny bars, so do my kids.

  122. 122
    Allie says:

Usually headbands and sometimes a visor. I’ve had bad experiences with hats and I’d love to have a good one!

  123. 123
    Lena says:

I usually wear hats, though I just bought a headband that covers my ears when it’s cold out. Perfection!

I’m definitely a store shopper, I like the instant gratification of buying in a store rather than waiting for my stuff to arrive via mail.

  124. 124
    Jodi says:

I don’t wear a hat or a headband when I run but I definitely need something because I am always pushing my sweat and hair out of my face.

  125. 125
    Maddie says:

I must have a weirdly shaped head because it is rare I can keep a headband on during a run. Too many of mine have been donated to the trail by accident. I live in north Texas anyway, so sun makes hats a necessity (whenever I get to run after sunrise, that is). The rest of the time, I just look like Medusa with my hair crazy. Good thing it’s usually dark!

  126. 126
    Amanda Reid says:

My headband is actually my “signature piece.” I usually wear a bight yellow brooks sweet band on race day, everyone knows to look for it!

  127. 127
    Suzanne says:

I wear more headbands than hats (sometimes my head gets too hot). But I would like to win and be twinsies with you 😉 Also, I have been done with my shopping for a while now and did a lot online (65-75%) and the rest in store.

  128. 128
    Danielle says:

Hat outside, headband inside! Great give away

  129. 129
    Cherry says:

I wear a headband but would love to try the halo hat. 🙂

  130. 130
    Mary Kate says:

Hat always outside. Online shopping is my main mode of shopping !

  131. 131
    Emily says:

Headbands since they’re small and don’t get in the way. I like to shop in stores since it gives me a reason to get out of the house 🙂

  132. 132
    Debbie E. says:

Online shopping for free shipping, cash back and general frustration avoidance. Except when my internet service is down, which is what happened with last Wednesday’s wind storm. Anyway, packed my parents 18 lb Christmas package–weights for my elderly mom–flat rate USPS only $16!, and all Christmas prep is done, so made the best of it. Gotta love technology, just have a backup plan!

The book looks interesting and Kindle affordable at under $10. I could have my Kindle Fire read it to me! I think that would work on the treadmill–the Kindle is new to me so I”ll try it. Yay for mufti-tasking!

  133. 133
    Allie says:

I wear hats…I have yet to try headbands. (they never stay on my head). Maybe a halo would be worth trying! I shop online and in stores. I have a little bit of a shopping problem :(. Happy Holidays to you and your family!!

  134. 134
    Kimberly Woolery says:

I usually pull my hair all back and use bobby pins, but typically it’s falling down in my face anyway. I’ve tried head bands but the sweat factor is always a problem so I towel off and pull hair down from the band and it’s in my face again! This headband looks like it will solve ALL my problems! LOL

  135. 135
    Stephanie says:

I always wear a headband when running.

  136. 136
    Hillary says:

If it is sunny I go hat. If not I opt for a headband. I have to wear something to control my fly away hair so have to wear one or the other!

  137. 137
    Julia says:

Headbands typically slide off my head, so I either run with a hat or a ton of bobby pins to keep the bangs back.

  138. 138
    Stacey says:

I tend to be a hat girl!! Love my bic bands but when I race I love my hats!

  139. 139

Currently I wear Halo headbands ‘every’ workout day – sometimes I even forget about them and whops its on all day!! I would love to try the hats out as well. This year its 50/50 – I love the online shopping with out dealing with the crowds.

  140. 140
    Michelle says:

I never really wear hats, only headbands when i run! I live in florida I feel like the hat blocks the heat from leaving my body haha

  141. 141
    tianna says:

ooph, i can’t stand crowds so i do all my shopping on line. that way the only one i have to push out of the way is myself … and i’m easy to knock over.
lately i’ve been rocking the bondi band and loving it but i’d love to try that halo hat!

  142. 142
    tianna says:

    i like halo on facebook!

  143. 143
    Marissa K says:

I like to run in headbands usually!
Also I do most of my shopping online though I enjoy in store shopping more…weird, huh?

  144. 144

I almost always wear a hat when I run. I like the way those shield your face from the sun. Looks great!

  145. 145
    Stephanie says:

I did 90% of my shopping online. It was so wonderful!!!! Everything just magically showed up 2-7 days later. Which is also the only way I could get everything done since I work nights

  146. 146
    Amy C. says:

I prefer to wear a headband when I workout! I have never been able to get into the hat thing! LOL!

  147. 147
    Leah says:

Headband for 20* to 40*, hat for 0* to 20 *. Brimmed hat is my lifesaver when it’s raining out.

  148. 148
    April says:

Hat!! Always a hat. Majority of shopping done online this year!!

  149. 149
    Jill H. says:

Headband, always…I have those lovely wispies that no matter how long my hair is, always seem to escape the ponytail!! And only wear a hat for intense rain…I get too hot otherwise!

  150. 150

Headband! Unless it’s cold out, which calls for a hat (or thick headband).

  151. 151
    Christine says:

Definitely need to wear a headband when i run or workout bcuz my hair is always getting in my face

  152. 152
    Melissa says:

Id love to try the headband! I like hats but they tend to make me hotter so the headband might just be perfect!
I really like to do my shopping in stores but if i know exactly what i want to buy someone ill look for it online to see of i can find a good price!
