Come Hang For A Day


You want to? At the STUFT house? Yeah, I didn’t think so, but I couldn’t think of a better title for this quickie little post. He he.



Last night- This 10 minute circuit workout I just made up at the spur of the moment and jotted down on a piece of paper. I wrote it out nice though to share on here.

New Year's 10 minute circuit

I really wanted to get a little resistance training in. It’s so important and makes such a big different. I hadn’t gotten that much in over the holidays because the time I had I was just trying to fit in some running. Last night I asked STUFT Daddy for 10 minutes and this is what I did. It got my heart rate up, I was a little sore this morning and it felt tough while I was doing it so it’s a keeper. Hmm… maybe the boys and I should do a video of it.



Taught an early morning spin class

Did an AT workout on the treadmill. It was an easy warm up mile and then 6 miles fast (4.5 at 7:03 pace and 1.5 at 6:58 pace), then 2 miles easy. 9 miles total. It wasn’t easy and I’m currently exhausted, but Kelly and Michael distracted me during it. I also had to tell myself over and over again that I knew I could do it even if it was hard. I tried to pretend like I was racing, but that didn’t go over so well.


My Inspires were the shoes for the day and I tried to bring my game face.


That person next to me was not impressed. Ha ha.


I did something else for the first time ever. I showered at the gym. I don’t know why I don’t do that more often. They have everything there- towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, Q tips, etc.

I’m usually so disgusting by the time we get home, but hey, not today.


Sure it looks like I was wearing pajamas, but I was clean. (I’m actually still wearing the same outfit and plan on sleeping in it. Win win.)


Since I was already clean, the boys and I could get right down to what we do best-

making hot cocoa for them and a dark chocolate peppermint mocha for me and roasting some squash.


Wouldn’t you know I burned the kabocha squash, but managed to fix it right up just like yesterday (complete with protein frosting, coconut oil, PB2, Naturally More peanut butter and chia).


Dang it. We made a video of how we roast kabocha, but I keep forgetting to share it. Soon.


The boys and I even spent a little time resting this afternoon and while looked at this Health magazine a bit.


Dang, which reminds me of something else, is it true that Bethenny and Jason are separating? That’s not okay with me.

Here’s a couple of things I found interesting to share in my quick look through.


If cocoa can make your memory strong I should have a really good memory. I’m not sure if that’s the case though because I keep forgetting things these days. Ha ha.



I totally agree with this. I wish I could work out first thing every morning, but my schedule doesn’t work that way. It’s so much easier to eat better all day if you’ve already worked out and are feeling good, isn’t it? Weird how that works.


Ooo… I thought this willpower one was interesting. It makes sense. Days when I’m short tempered with my kiddos are also days when I usually give into my crazy sugar and carb cravings. I guess if you don’t use willpower in other situations it gets harder with food stuff too. I sure need to practice willpower everywhere (yes, even on the road with other drivers). We’ll see it it helps and if I can strengthen that “muscle”. Ha.


Hmm.. another willpower one. I’ve never tried this drumming thing. Not sure if it would work for me, but if it did that would be awesome. Has anyone tried something like this?

And one last one just because.


Early risers have a more positive outlook than night owls? Well, okay then. I’m going to bed before 11:30 pm for the third night in a row. Yep, THIRD night in a row. This might just be a new thing.


And, well, before I go……

I really should stop wondering why we never have company for dinner.


The boys and I and Kitty hung out tonight while STUFT Daddy watched some important game or something. (He’s been doing way too much around here for me and actually deserves like a whole week to go do whatever.)

The boys had whole wheat spaghetti with roasted broccoli (prepared just like roasted cauliflower).


I had a chicken salad with balsamic vinegar as dressing and some red pepper to spice it up.


Then a massive bowl of roasted brussel sprouts, broccoli and some jalapeños topped with marinara, Cholula, fresh basil, nutritional yeast and more crushed red pepper.


Oh and look at this little gem.


I did a little garlic bread experiment with my microwave English muffin that turned out surprisingly well. I’ll try it out one more time though before I post the recipe.

Someone was not very impressed.



And…… good night.

    That one about the drumming for willpower reminds me of that Bud Light commercial where all the guys face their labels out for the kick. “It’s only weird if it doesn’t work.” Lol. Also, I have been seeing people putting nutritional yeast in their food lately and they carry it in bulk at my favorite specialty grocery where I shop just about daily. What is the purpose of that stuff? I know I can just google it but I like to hear from “real” people whose advice I actually trust. =) thanks!

      There are a ton of nutritional benefits (provides a lot of B vitamins) and a lot of vegans use it in place of cheese since it has a cheese like flavor. 🙂

    I read Health, Weight Watchers and Self magazines.

    I am definitely an early riser…seven days a week.

    I am definitely not a night owl.

    Hmmm. Willpower. Here’s how it works for me. I am an abstainer. I do much better with willpower if I do not have any at all of things I should not have. I am not good at moderation. If I start on something that I should not have, I eat too much of it. I have learned this about myself over the past two years. I am comfortable with this.

    I love Health magazine when I happen to read it, but lately I only have time for Runner’s World and Cooking Light. I agree with both the earlyriser and working out in the morning reports. I feel so much better when I wake up early and get a good workout in. Unfortunately, my schedule usually doesn’t allow for it either.

    Willpower or stubborn…not sure what I’m calling it, but when it comes to that strong will, I have that covered. Probably to a fault. I’m an early riser for sure. I have to get up at 5:30 most days to get Jay to school on time, but some days I’m up at 4:30am to train clients. It stinks when you give it too much thought, but I really feel good once I get going. Our household is in wind down mode by 8pm though these days which really makes us “party animals” when we get together with friends for evening events…

    I love Self, Shape and Runner’s World. I used to get Women’s Health but it was just too long of a magazine with tiny print. I do love Bethenny so I’m gonna have to grab that issue of Health magazine. Oh and totally devastated about Bethenny and Jason! I loved them together, although now I can make my move on him now that he’s soon to be a free man. 😉

    Early riser…always have been. My husband works late so he stays up later so I end up staying up to 10:00. Which is late for me! I need 8 hours but 9 is even better!
    I used to think I could start a Magazine Anonymous group! But, I’ve got it somewhat under control. Oprah, Self, Shape, More, Whole Living, Runners World. I’ve got to stop!!

    I would so come hang at the Stuft house if invited, looks like a blast, magazines, squash, mochas & toddlers, perfect! When I heard about Bethenny & Jason I didn’t believe it, let’s home Kim & Kanye make it longer than they did, ha! I’m a morning person, get up & get it done! And I love the idea of “willpower as a muscle”, couldn’t have said it better. Happy New Year!

    I would totally come over to the Stuft house to hang out with you and your cute boys!! I’ve turned into a terrible night owl. I would like to return to my early rising days. It would be nice to have at least a half hour to myself in the morning before the kids wake me up. Alas…

    I like to run first thing in the morning, but its been below zero this week, so hasn’t worked out. I also like to take three of my dogs and that doesn’t work in the morning when its still dark, so I don’t run in the early morning as much as I’d like.

    I would love a video of your New Year’s 10 mn circuit, I’ve never used a sandbag, resistance band or kettlebell and would like to see how you do it. The videos with your boys are good and funny, you’re a great multi-tasker, you can talk, do the moves, keep on eye on the boys, and be funny and cute all at the same time.

    You have good muscles in your upper body which I really need to work on, my legs are good from running mtns and yoga, but upper body pretty wimpy. Do you have naturally buff arms? Is it hard to keep the upper body muscles when training for marathon? I don’t eat egg whites, maybe that’s your secret? Ha!

      Yes- from years of being a gymnast. I still get a lot of resistance training in though even when training for races because of the classes I teach. 🙂 Below zero??? What????

    That drumming on the forehead one makes me laugh. If it works, awesome, but I’d feel like a goober doing it haha
    My favorite magazines are Women’s Health and Oxygen.
    Okay, so I’m if this has a completely obvious answer, but what is an AT workout/run?

    Since I started writing my blog and reading other blogs, I really haven’t been into magazines as much. I’d much rather read blogs I think! I do occasonally enjoy Health and Self magazines though. And seriously, what is up with Bethenny and her husband?! I was bummed to hear that too. So sad.

    I used to be a night owl and late riser, but since my senior year of college, I’ve really learned to appreciate my early mornings. I get so much more done in the early hours!

    I miss the days of fully-stocked locker rooms with towels and such – ah, the good ol days at Life Time Fitness. Now the gyms are very bring-your-own and I tend to go home. At least my own shower gets used more. 🙂

    I’m way too sad about Bethenny and Jason. So, so sad. I loved them as a couple. And yah, Kelly and Michael totally keep my energies up while I workout, they are such gems. Yay kabocha, even though you burnt it, it still tastes delicious that way! Can you possibly be both a night owl and early riser, because I definitely am that! It’s probably not the best, but oh well. One day I’ll learn.

    Please post the 10 min. circuit — be sure to include the twins 🙂 !! Definitely an early morning worker outer — spinning at 5:45 AM!! Then I have time to do yoga during lunch hour or early evening … which is a great counter to the spinning (or any other work out). Magazines — Yoga Journal and Yoga International. Oxygen and Fitness from time to time. My willpower when it comes to food stinks. Willpower for working out or other things is good — pretty regimented in that area.

    I’m convinced you burn things on purpose… c’mon, admit it. Because then you can dump a bunch of crushed peppers on it. I know your moves.

    “mulit-tasking” is what its called when you put on your p.j.’s after your shower;-)

    I am an early-bird by choice. A night owl due to my job. I would love to workout first thing in the morning, but due to work/daycare schedule, it just doesn’t work:-(

    I think I’m pretty strong willed… and you are def a beast on the treadmill unlike me!! I love the microwave English muffin and what a great idea to try it as garlic bread. I’m going to try that next time we eat Italian!

    I really need to work on waking up earlier. I know so many people believe in it but if I can sleep in until 9 then I do it! Next week classes start back up and I am going to have to be getting up at 7 so tomorrow no sleeping in for me!

    I also have a blog related question! What widget/plug in do you use to get your comments numbered?! I like how yours looks and can’t find any that will work on my blog! Thanks 🙂
