What I’m Loving- Animals, Firemen, New Shoes, Upcoming Races and a Grain Free Garlicky Microwave Muffin

Oh, why hello again so soon! Obviously I can’t stay away and have a ton of things to write about. Holy longest title ever on a post. Ha ha.

Thursday’s Workouts:

5 mile treadmill run and taught a couple classes at the Y.

I dressed the part as one of my new year things I’m trying out. I’ve accepted that although I don’t make that much money teaching classes, it’s my job for now so I better dress the part. I tried to put myself together with a little Lorna Jane outfit and even had to match with the jacket and shoes.

He he.

Today’s Workout:

9 mile treadmill run at the gym with a little Jeff Probst talk show and TMZ entertainment. I don’t know how long it took me, I was distracted by the quality TV shows.

I totally had a weird feeling yesterday as I was driving to the gym. Not sure if you were a STUFT reader a year ago, but here’s what happened. Ugh. Thank goodness this year is off to a much better start so far.

So much better. In fact, I’m actually giddy to talk about all these random things I’m loving right now.

Seriously LOVING.

In no particular order the current things I’m loving are……

Wild animals in our house in the morning.

Some seriously cute firemen.

The chance to hitch a ride with cute firemen.

Oh and even getting to impress these firemen with my teeter-totter skills.

This teeny tiny fork ($1.99 at Bed, Bath and Beyond).

I know, how cool is that?

Obviously roasted kabocha squash that is that much better when eaten with the teeny fork.

Hmm…. not loving the looks of my nails. I better do something about that.

These shoes. I love everything about them. I swear Mizuno just keeps making them better and better. They are pretty, bright, comfortable and durable.. All in one. Ahhh……

Seriously, how cool are these new Elixir 8 shoes?

They are so cool that they’re not even on the Mizuno website yet. These beauties hit stores tomorrow. Woo hoo! They are on presale here just in case you can’t wait.

I can’t even explain how excited I was to get these in the mail the other day. Elixirs are the only shoes I race in (for the past 5 years) and I am in LOVE with these new ones.

If you’re looking for a little motivation to go for run, try some new shoes. I couldn’t get on the treadmill fast enough to try these out yesterday.

Of course I picked out those particular Pro Compression socks to match. He he.

Today I wasn’t as motivated, but the shoes were calling my name yet again.

They’re just as comfortable, if not more so that the Elixir 7 shoes. They feel wide at the front, which is good for my wide, flat feet and provide just the right amount of support for faster, longer runs.

I’m keeping them safe in the box when I’m not wearing them and have been sporting slippers to the gym so I don’t get these new little beauties dirty. He he.

And…… well, since I have some new racing shoes and all I decided it was finally time to update my races page. I also had to make sure I have a full racing schedule ahead to sport these fine shoes.

Here’s what I’ve got coming up so far:

Carlsbad Marathon 1/27/13

Women’s Half Marathon 2/24/13

San Diego Half Marathon 3/10/13

Hot Chocolate 15K 3/24/13

Boston Marathon 4/15/13

La Jolla Half Marathon 4/28/13

Safari Park Half Marathon 5/5/13

I’m still looking into trying to get to San Luis Obispo Marathon, San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and The San Francisco Marathon, but I’m not sure I can swing the expenses. If you happen to have any connections or anything, please feel free to share. He he.

Um, and yeah, I decided it was time to experiment and add some yogurt back into my diet. The jury’s still out on whether or not my tummy can handle it, but I forgot how much I love Chobani. I also forgot how much fun it is to eat it in an almost empty peanut butter jar with a Vitatop and some Love Grown Foods granola.

Oh….. have you seen the Love Grown new product by the way? Hot oats friends! I can’t wait to get my hands on them!

And why yes, I get really hungry after a run. Ha ha ha.

Um….. and yeah, before I go I have to share a little something something with you. I showed you my little muffin experiment the other night and said I had to test it out a few more times. Well, that I did.

You also may have seen this picture on instagram last night.

Well, I’m ready to give you the recipe for this little garlicky guy.

This grain free garlicky guy to be exact. I adapted this from the microwave English muffin recipe.

Here’s some pictures of the process.

It goes really nicely with roasted broccoli slaw and roasted Brussel sprouts with marinara.

Um, yeah. Yum.

Okay, I think I’ve done my overload of things I’m loving. Sorry about that, but hey, it’s Friday!

Enjoy your night and have a wonderful weekend!

Any big plans for the first weekend of 2013?

Dang those are some awesome shoes! I bet they are fast too! I will have you know that Tony’s calf pain is 100% gone since wearing the Inspires! He LOVES them! I’m so excited for you and the races! I know you will do amazing! As for the weekend, I’m organizing my life…or at least trying to. Good times! Have a great one my friend!

Funny about the teeny tiny fork, I’m the opposite, I hate tiny forks! I love a big fork! Maybe tiny fork okay for squash, but for giant green salads, no good, I need a big fork to shovel it in, otherwise it would take forever to eat.

Why do you use the Elixir for racing? How do they compare with the Inspire?

I love big forks for salads and dinners. Small forks for breakfasts, desserts and squash. Weird. 🙂 Elixirs are a bit lighter than the Inspires.

I’m trying a pair of the Enigma, you have to size up for sure in the Enigma, I bought a men’s 11 and I usually wear a men’s 10 in running shoes and a women’s 11 in regular shoes! I have to get men’s for my extra long feet and put an insert in them, so they will fit, but my toes don’t rub. They seem like a good shoe, I tried the Wave Rider and Inspire, but Enigma felt the most sturdy, I’d like to try the Elixir also.

Those new Mizuno shoes look super cool! I need new shoes, but I’ve never tried them…..so it kind of scares me to try a new shoe. The garlic bread looks like a must try!

So glad things are way different than last year 🙂 Love your outfit!! I’m a Brooks shoe gal (for now) and haven’t tried Mizunos yet. Have a great weekend! I WILL be trying this muffin. I have a thing for garlic!!

Love this muffin! Maybe better than Betty White’s. Hee hee! I also love that you did the weights. I use my scale for everything – so much easier (and accurate) than measuring spoons/cups!

Now those are the kind of animals I enjoy to have in my house. 😉

I did not know about your accident…this year is better by far!

What?!! Did I see Boston on your list?!! Way to go! You are awesome! I think you should do San Fran again because I am! I am going to have to check into San Luis Obispo marathon too… Hmmm

Those shoes are awesome. Clearly I have a shoe problem haha. Good luck in your upcoming races!!! Especially Boston! I am way impressed!

Tiny forks are the best! No big plans this weekend since I have a sick husband but it is our 13-year anniversary of being together (married 5 in May) so maybe I should have my own celebration 🙂 Have a great weekend!

I loooove everything in this post. But, those MIZUNOS!!! Those are beauties, my friend. I know you will wear them well!!!

Hooray! I’m doing Carlsbad Marathon and the San Diego Half Marathon as well. (You will, of course, be running much faster than I will.) I’m considering the Hot Chocolate race because friends did it last year and had good reports…but I haven’t signed up for it yet.

what sort of class are you teaching?? I’m so curious because i recently began teaching zumba classes in my little town…it’s so so fun, but it’s so so hard to have the energy to keep up the training runs that I want and teach the classes too. Nothing replaces running, so I just can’t give it up for teaching classes…. How do you balance it?

    • 20.1
      STUFT Mama says:

Oh I teach all sorts of classes. I’m not going to lie though, it’s tough and hard to balance it all. I’m tired and grumpy a lot. 🙂 Fun that you teach zumba!
