The Dentist, Detox and Retail Therapy

Workout:

Taught an hour spin class this morning

Ran 8 miles on the treadmill afterwards in just over an hour

IMG_0514

I was annoyed because they treadmill I usually use at the gym was occupied. I get a little possessive about the treadmills. I know I can’t be the only one, right?

Anyway, I ended up being happy with the treadmill I got as it didn’t stop or force me to do a cool down at an hour and I got to finish my 8 miles. I had planned on trying to get some speed work in, but it just wasn’t happening after sweating it out in spin. Oh well, I figure there are days when you go for it and push yourself really hard and there are days when you realize you just want to get it done and enjoy the ride. Yes?

I changed things up a bit for breakfast and went for some Coach’s Oats with PB2 and chia and a couple frozen berries.

IMG_7564

I also got to open a brand new bag of Starbucks espresso. That always makes my morning a little more exciting! Thank you Jessica!

IMG_7561

Post workout I was starving. Since I’m still working on weaning myself from my daily sweet roasted kabocha squash habit, today I made this bowl of magnificence instead.

IMG_0518

In the bowl- dark chocolate microwave muffin (made just with water, no pumpkin or applesauce), NuttZo, a Chobani Coffee and Dark Chocolate Bite cup, chia, PB2 and a Trader Joe’s trail mix pack.

Yeah. Fantabulous!

Thanks to huge snacks like this one, I think I’m through the hard part of the kabocha squash detox. Ha ha. My wallet is happy, I don’t have squash on the brain daily, I’m finding other things to roast and I seem to have a little more time in my day. I’m missing the extra arm workout though. Ha ha.

This afternoon I roasted some peas again.

IMG_7582

Here’s how I did it.

I rinsed them and took the strings out. Then I put them on a pan sprayed with non stick spray and seasoned them with Trader Joe’s Everyday seasoning, cayenne, garlic salt and pepper and then roasted them at 400 convection for 20-25 minutes.

Perfect. I love snacky finger foods like that.

We also had a very successful dentist visit this afternoon.

IMG_0527IMG_0531

Thank goodness. I was a little nervous things wouldn’t go over so well, but this helped.

IMG_0530

Cool right? They have TVs on the ceiling too to watch when you’re laying back. I love our dentist.

So…..

you know how they say people with addictive personalities (yes, I totally have one) replace certain addictions with other ones? I swear that is so true. I’m working on getting over my squash addiction and I have a feeling that the newly discovered Quest Bar is going to help out a bit along with roasting carrots and sprinkling PB2 on just about everything these days. Ha ha.

I’m also about to do a little online retail therapy here (pretty awesome GNC Deal of the Day on Quest Bars), here and here. (Just in case STUFT Daddy reads this- I have gift cards for two out of the three sites.)

How was your day?

I love Quest bars! I took a whole case on our last vacation as I am super picky, GF & always hungry 🙂 even got the hubby to try them! When the new flavor came out last week I ordered a case right away- chocolate chip cookie dough??!! Had to have it! Best thing besides the protein/fiber/sugar ratio & the gluten free is that they travel well in gym bags LOL, glad you found another favorite in the foodie department!

I know exactly how you feel….I can get a bit possesive over my favorite treadmill too! Your oats looks so good…that’s what’s for breakfast tomorrow.

  3. 3

I may have to rock a muffin tonight… it’s so cold!!!

And the retail therapy… protein shopping is the best sort therapy. 🙂

Where do you buy the Chobani bite cups? I haven’t seen them at Ralph’s or Whole Foods. I’m totally obsessed with the regular yogurt and those bite cups look tasty too!

I did spin this morning too, and it was such a tough one. I have just gotten over a cold, and felt a bit whoozy after the class, so ended up passing on my planned run. Now, at 10:35pm, I am soo mad I didn’t do it. I guess we all have days like this though right! Also, I love the roasting veg idea so much! My kids love kale especially and tonight we tried out butternut squash. I loved it, they did not, lol. Oh well, tomorrow we shall try out some carrots 🙂
Looking forward to your next post!

I wish my dentist’s office had TVs on the ceiling when I was younger! Would have made teeth cleanings much more pleasant

    Amy says:

Yes, I have “my” treadmill at the gym and get really annoyed if someone else is on it! Same thing with my spin bike 🙂

Do you follow a specific training plan or just run as you feel that particular day?

Hey, I just went to the dentist yesterday too. Sadly no tv’s, but there were some cute walrus pictures on the ceiling and a bird feeder outside. Haha. No cavities though I did have to get my sealants touched up. As long as no shot or drilling is involved I’m good.

I’m glad the dentist went well! I had an addiction to peanut butter which has totally changed to almond and coconut butter!

Hahaha I used ‘someone else’s’ treadmill before and it was scary! But I know what it’s like to get into a routine, so I understand!
    And you’re muffin-nutzo-chobani dessert looks oh-so Fantabulous!

  11. 11

I cannot stand sitting there at the dentist and staring off on the ceiling while the dentist does his/her thing. Luckily, my dentist has a tv as well so it makes it a WHOLE less awkward. 🙂

I wish GNC sold the Quest bar variety pack! I couldn’t decide on a flavor, so I went to the Quest website and bought the 12 bar variety pack for $25.99 and used coupon code “sample” for free shipping and a free low carb sample bar! Can’t wait to try them out!!!

I’m totally possessive about my treadmill (actually, 2) at the Y, my elliptical at the Y and “my spot” in any fitness class. And I am indeed addictive – when I find something I like, I beat it (or eat it or drink it as the case may be) to death. I’m a Scorpio and while I don’t really know what that means, I’m often told that’s the reason I’m both possessive and addictive. Whatevs.

When you make your famous DARK CHOCOLATE MICROWAVE MUFFIN without the pumpkin, do you have to change the portions of any other ingredients? More water? less water? Etc?
Do you find it less firm w/o the pumpkin? Thanks!!

Yeah, I pretty much keep everything else the same, but add more water. I’ll measure it out and do a post because I keep doing it and it’s so darn easy. 🙂

That protein muffin bowl looks awesome – I’m getting more into adding lots of toppings to stuff like that & it’s awesome. 🙂

Oh man, quest bars are the shiz. I’m so glad you discovered them. I’ve been eating them daily for over a year now. Strawberry cheesecake, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Apple Pie, Coconut Cashew… they’re literally all amazing. All 20g of protein, some have 5-6 carbs, some have 2. I ordered a box of their new chocolate chip cookie dough bars… and uh, YUM.
Also, I second Krystle’s question about the muffin! 🙂

Had the strawberry cheesecake for the first time today. Um… yum! I answered the muffin question, but will do a post on it because I keep making it and it’s so easy and I haven’t been measuring how much water I add.

Everywhere I look people are talking about Quest bars! Just tracked my order and it’s on a truck for delivery right this minute, can’t wait to try one!!!

Our dentist has the TV on the ceiling as well, genius little buggers!!!

Are those roasted snap peas from Costco? They have a fabulous large bag of those bad boys that I have been using for over a week. LOVE them. Oh and I picked up 2 kabocah squash today at the store. I’ll eat some for you. 😉

    Susan says:

Hi! I like those quest bars too but holy cow they take forever to eat, they are so chewy. Also, in that pic, those look like scallions or “green onions” very tasty and you can actually put the root end in a cup with some water and the green tops grow again. Have a great day!

Just can’t get over those cute boys!! So glad they had a good time at the dentist!! We started ours young at the dentist too…hoping that will make for good appointments every time 🙂 I’ve never had coffee and I’m really wanting to try it, I think I could use it haha Just don’t know what to try first. Did you like coffee the first time you tried it? I can definitely relate with the “addictive” personality!! so me! Also- I need to try the PB2…haven’t tried that either! Add me to the list of ‘haven’t tried anything’ haha! have a great day!
