Thursday Workout:
AM- Slow 5 mile run on the treadmill
Elliptical for 30 minutes
PM- Taught Y50X class and strength training class at the Y (both very modified)
Well, I’m becoming better friends with the elliptical than I’d like.
I attempted a jog yesterday. I didn’t make it too far or fast.
I thought my matchy outfit would help a bit. I was wrong.
I also got my sports headphones stuck in a broken remote on the first elliptical I moved to and had to use my key to get them out of the little controller thingy. It took a long time and for a couple minutes I was convinced I was on some kind of hidden camera show or something.
I was not.
Oh elliptical.
Hayley asked me what I do on the elliptical. I usually do the “random” program every time. I get bored and it helps change it up a bit. At least I’ve been able to catch up on some reading while I’m on there. Yes, I’m trying to focus on the positive.
I’m looking into trying to get to the doctor today or early next week to see what’s going on. My high hopes of waking up one of these days pain free just isn’t working out how I had planned. I did finally use The Stick for the first time last night before bed though. That thing is pretty cool.
Thanks for all your recommendations on Facebook by the way about rolling and ice. The consensus from my friends (yes, that’s you) was to heat, roll and then ice. That’s what I did.
Getting super nervous about Boston. It’s two weeks away friends. I have two weeks to get this taken care of. Plenty of time, right?
Ugh.
Moving on.
Let’s block it out and focus on fun things like games, coffee and food.
We had a mean game of “ball slide races” in the backyard the other afternoon.
And, um, yeah, my boys are 3 and Joaquin was already stealing my ball and throwing it so I couldn’t win the “race”. Where do they learn this stuff?
And…. a little coffee chat.
I Need to clarify the black coffee thing from my last post.
I love Starbucks espresso, go through it way too fast and usually make it with my stovetop espresso maker. I can drink that black easily (with a little sweetener) or in a café Americano, but when I’m running late (or I’m lazy) I use my Tassimo for a quick cup of coffee.
Like my set up? The Tassimo cups of coffee are hard to get down plain sometimes.
I really wish my espresso would brew itself or Kitty would freaking learn how to use it.
Ha ha.
I got to open a new bag of Starbucks coffee yesterday. Thank goodness for my friend Jessica who takes serious care of me.
I made a pretty darn good almond milk café Americano out of it.
This morning I’m back to my almond coconut mocha. We’ve been up since 4:45 am so it was a must.
Random, but I love the butt pieces of bread (only certain ones though). Yesterday the butt was a little too small for me on my cinnamon sugar breakfast STUFTwich.
That’s just silly. I like big butts.
The other night I got to open a new big container of crushed red pepper while finishing off both a bottle of Cholula and Scotty B’s ghostly garlic.
I hope the crushed red chilies last awhile. Oh well, if they don’t at least I bought an extra one. Ha ha.
And, just because I was really proud of this toddler lunch the other day, I have to show you.
Cheese sandwich, strawberries, crackers and hummus and sweet roasted carrots with peanut butter.
The other night I combined GNC chocolate egg protein powder with some plain nonfat Chobani and stuck it in the freezer for a bit for a late night snack. It was pretty darn delicious.
Even more delicious on top of a 120 calorie dark chocolate muffin and some low calorie peanut butter frosting of course.
It made starting taxes a little more tolerable.
Although, I think my tummy is starting to not like the fact that I’ve been adding in more dairy to my diet lately. I may need to go back to my dairy free ways for a bit.
Before I do though, let’s talk some serious snacks.
Crazy Flatout Quest Bar snack creations.
Ready?
I really should be not eating as many snacks since I’m not really working out as hard, but I just can’t help myself sometimes.
The other day it was this amazing plate of goodness.
On the plate- Flatout cinnamon crisps and a white chocolate protein cookie topped with low calorie peanut butter frosting, chia and NuttZo. It was awesome.
Something similar was done yesterday (because that’s what I do). Only it was bigger and better.
Do you see that? Oh my.
On the plate- Flatout cinnamon crisps, sweet roasted carrots and a roasted apple (prepared just like sweet roasted kabocha squash) and a baked chocolate cookie dough Quest Bar. I also had some white chocolate protein cookie dough, some PB2 and a little NuttZo on there for dipping and spreading.
Um yeah. It was pretty darn awesome.
My favorite was saving the baked Quest bar for the end and spreading the PB2 on it.
Mmm hmmm.
And I also have a little something fun to do it you don’t have a ginormous appetite like myself or just want a little Flatout Quest creation.
Check this little beauty out.
It’s a little cinnamon roll Quest Bar wrap.
Let’s call it a
Flatout Quest Wrap.
Here’s how it’s made (because you must try it).
Take a Flatout wrap. Spread a little coconut oil on it or spray with butter spray. Sprinkle cinnamon and sugar or sweetener packet (I used my new favorite sweetener). Place your favorite flavor Quest Bar on the Flatout. (I made mine with the cinnamon roll one.)
Microwave for 20-25 seconds. Roll up into a cute little sweet burrito looking thing.
Dig in.
This little wrap is packed with fiber and protein and is really easy to throw together and eat on the run.
I can’t wait to try it out with other flavors. This cinnamon roll one was darn good though.
Okay, dang, enough food talk. Seriously Kristin. Sorry. No more food talk for at least 24 hours from me.
Happy Friday! Enjoy your day!

Your meals ALWAYS took so tasty! Drooling!
That Quest rollup looks so good. I haven’t been able to try those bars yet but I really want to!
NEED to do the cinnamon roll quest bar wrap idea, yum!!!! Love it and thanks for sharing that!
I am obsessed with quest bars 😉
Happy weekend to you and the family!!! Happy Easter! <3
Happy Easter to you!!! Feed your little girlie some good Easter eats. He he. 🙂
This is what I use to make one cup of coffee quickly, http://www.amazon.com/Melitta-Ready-Single-Coffee-Brewer/dp/B0014CVEH6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1364568529&sr=8-1&keywords=one+cup+coffee+brewer. Have you tried this method? You could use your favorite Starbucks Espresso and this brewer, instead of the Tassimo.
You know, I tried the Quest bars and did not like them at all, and I will eat most energy bars. Sorry! I like that they have lots of fiber and no sugar though.
Thanks for that coffee maker link.:) I think the key to the Quest bars is heating them up a bit. 🙂 What’s your favorite bar?
Hey if you can’t talk running and Boston at least you can talk food!!
I like BigButts they cannot lie! 😉 (and butts of bread too haha!)
You should invest in a Nespresso machine – their espresso is amazing and it’s so easy. GO check it out where it’s sold and they’ll make you samples. You can get one for $200 which is a lot – but seriously it’s so worth it!
I hope you get to run in Boston. Fingers crossed for you. How do you get your almond milk to froth so nice and thick? My froths into a thin foam and dissipates as soon after pouring it in my matcha tea. Any suggestions?
I use a little hand frother. And certain almond milk does better than others. Silk Almond works best! 🙂
If you like big butts, I’m assuming you cannot lie either?!? Sorry, I love 90’s rap. (I couldn’t help myself….I promise I will only comment appropriately after today.)
And I think you will definitely be able to Boston…positive vibes!
I have been eating Quest for years. Eating at least 2/day….I order them online. Tried every flavor and now I am stuck on Chocolate brownie, Strawberry cheesecake and Cashew cookie……YUM!
I still haven’t tried the brownie one! I better get on it.
I’ve never heard of Quest before! Yay for a new snack to track down 🙂
I am in love with that Cholula hot sauce – i had it when i was in L.A and really wishing i bought some over there now as i cant get it back home..its amazing!
all your snack bowls/plates always look so tasty and amazing quest bar creation yum!
Dammit, it’s tax time again and I haven’t even started!!! Why does this happen to us every year? Don’t they know we hate taxes. Good luck with yours. I need to focus on mine this weekend…who am I kidding, I will start them Monday. I’m praying that groin heals (and I don’t say that to just anyone ;)).
Have a great weekend my friend!
I hope you get some good, encouraging news from your doctor!
I have a question about Kitty. Does he ever look happy? If so, what does his happy face look like? He cracks me up.
That is his happy face. 🙂 Just kidding.
Ahhh Flatout NEEDs to make a GF wrap!! I’m always so jealous when I see them!
Another cute workout top!
those snack attacks are hard to manage arent’ they? I know how you feel…I cut back on runs or whatever and i end up wanting to eat more and more. Today I caved and ate dinner (FULL dinner) at 4pm instead of snacking and waiting. Dessert followed. Now it’s almost 7pm and i’m like hmmmmmm..dinner part 2? I’m definitely not starving myself but sometimes I’m like whoa–what is going on?
I wanna tell you to REST and just not do anything for one or two days. But I fully know that’s easier said than done. Especially when physical exercise (low or high exertion) is a stress release for you, myself and others.
I wish you well. Have you ever considered incline walking? I do that when I can’t run. I get bored on the elliptical.
Best to you!
I should try that. I haven’t done it yet, but the elliptical is sure getting old. 🙂
Oh goodness that little burrito looks fabulous! How you come up with these random things always makes me smile…Hoping you find a answer to your injury before Boston. Thinking of you all the way in Jersey! Stay positive and have a great weekend! XOXO
Glad you got out and were able to run today!! 🙂
Love your blog and so sorry to hear about your injury! I never comment but I had to raise my voice about your injury- sounds like you could have one side of your pubic symphysis slipped up or down? Really common and easily treatable by a physical therapist or chiro? Especially with the activity that you do, could have easily happened but also can click back into place! Good luck!
-The butts are always my favorite part of the bread loaf too : )
-Cinnamon Roll is the only flavor of Quest bars I’ve tried so far but I love it and I’m on the hunt for other flavors now!
A baked quest bar….now that I have to try!
Did you try it yet?
I think I’m going to go broke between all the new goodies I’ve gotten hooked on (thanks – or no thanks?!). Between the Quest bars, Designer Whey & PB2 I am spending way too much. But they are all so good! 🙂
Oopsies. Sorry about that. 🙂
I’m a physical therapist and a runner. Sounds like u have an adductor strain which I’ve had many times. It takes awhile to heal and never had much success w kinesiotape. What I will suggest is cutting the junk miles right now. Ur in shape if you continue to run your body can’t rest and your prolonging the healing. Those ten min miles aren’t affecting your fitness. Believe me I’m done this many times and the last time I toook ten days of rest from running. Crosstrained instead. What doctor are u seeing? Depending on your insurance I’d bypass your primary care and see a physical therapist. Pcp will likely say rest medication and we runners know that and don’t want Meds. X-ray won’t show anything unless u have a fracture which is very small so not worth the money. It’s a painful frustrating injury and maddening bc usually only thing that hurts is running. Good luck!
I am afraid I am going to have to stop reading with all this food porn! 😉 Thank goodness you have non food fun too! 🙂
I hope the doctor has some good news! A warmed quest bar with coconut oil and PB frosting sounds amazing!
Quest bars are the best! Just this morning I went by GNC to purchase a new flavor….Cashew Coconut. I am already hooked on the Chocolate Peanut Butter and the Strawberry Cheesecake. I want to try bundling them in a cute wrap like you did. That looks amazing. I must try. XO
