Being Home, Resting and Recovering

Being Home, Resting and Recovering

Monday Workout:

AM- 15 minutes on the stair mill then taught 45 minute spin class

PM- Barely taught a Y50X class and a step class at the Y

Quick update on my injury– My hip/groin has flared up a bit since the relay. No surprise. Definitely too much too soon after not running at all for 3 weeks and not really being ready to start running again. I ran almost 16 miles total during the 28 or so hours it took us to complete the relay. I ran my last leg a little faster than planned and I just don’t think my hip/groin was happy about all that business.

Don’t mind the “crotch on fire” comment.

I have also done something to my rib. I’m not sure exactly, but it’s not good. I’m pretty sure I did it in the relay van reaching over the seat for some food after my last run. Obviously. Who the heck hurts a rib reaching for food? Oh yes, that’s me.

So… this week I’m trying going to really rest. No running or “jolking” for a couple days at least. Instead I’m taking a deep breath, taking care of my men, my body and my mind.

Easier said than done, yes, but I’m going to make that my priority this week.

It might take me a couple days or so to get the full relay recap up, but I just don’t want to leave anything out.

Yesterday, I celebrated being home with an almond coconut mocha of course

along with lots and lots of hugs from these guys.

I also enjoyed some sweet roasted kabocha squash and roasted apples topped with low calorie peanut butter frosting

complete with some belVita biscuits topped with SunButter.

The boys had their fair share of belVita biscuits too.

I didn’t bring them home any souvenirs from my trip, but I made them happy with a few of the biscuits I stashed in my bag.

Also, totally random, but when I got home last night from the gym (and from spending $50 at Pick Up Stix getting dinner for us), this NutriBullet had mysteriously showed up.

I have no idea where it came from. There isn’t a note or anything in the package. It might be from the LA marathon as NutriBullet was a sponsor for that event, but I don’t remember putting my name into a contest or anything.

I’m not complaining. I’m actually ridiculously excited about this little gem. So much so that I went outside this morning to take a picture and the boys locked me out of the house. Nice huh? I wasn’t locked out too long, but long enough that this post is going to be one of the shortest ones ever.

Okay, off to work on the recap post and take care of my little men.

What do you look forward to the most after you get home from a trip?

Do you have a NutriBullet? Is it better than The Magic Bullet? What should I make with it?

I hope a few days of rest will help your hip start to feel better soon, bummer that it is hurting again after the relay. After being out of town I love coming home to my doodle dog! I love how excited he is to see me on a daily basis but especially after I have been gone. I also realyl like cooking my own food, I always miss my kitchen when traveling.

I have to tell you- I’m not nearly the caliber of runner you are, but last summer I was training for my first 10k when I hurt my lower back (around labor day) doing deadlifts. I couldn’t even think about doing the 10k–I could hardly sit long enough to work–but once I had given myself some time to rest, I started cross training. Mainly the elliptical but also some bike work too. I started working with a new trainer a couple months after the injury.
I figured all my hard training for the 10k was out the window and I was starting from scratch, but between all the cross training I did and working out with my new trainer, I started running again in February and was running at least as fast as I was in September last year. It felt like I hadn’t lost any ground at all! And at this point I have done not one, but TWO 10ks, and I am running my first half marathon in about a month.
My point is– while the elliptical is not running, you can keep in shape with it. Do not despair!
Do you have access to a pool? Maybe some pool running?

Sorry about the hip. m’dear. That’s the kind of injury that just seems, well, to never want to go anywhere. But I have full faith that a couple of down days with that adorable boys may be just the thing you need to feel better. Not to mention the last time I checked belvita never failed to make things at least a little better! 🙂

My own bed is my favorite thing to come home to (assuming my fiance was away with me, if not…best thing is coming home to him). Kicking off my shoes and just flopping onto my bed is the best.

I don’t have a nutri bullet but I have something similar (can’t remember what it’s called right now) and it’s a nice gadget to have in the kitchen

I look forward to my bed, my coffee machine and my breakfast prepared exactly how I want it. I also look forward to my stock pile of peanut butter. Even though I travel with my peanut butter, I never know when airport security is going to decide to take it from me…hope you are feeling recovered and healed asap!

After coming home from a trip, I look forward to just chilling out in my favorite place….home. Also, love sleeping in my own bed and cuddling with my dog, who’s always excited to see me. Can’t wait to see what you come up with in the nutribullet!

I look forward to eating real food the most after coming home from a trip. Even when searching out the healthiest places to eat on a trip I find that I can’t eat as well as I’d like.

I hope your hip heals super-speedily! Rest is what it sounds like it needs.

I wish random gifts would show up at the front of my door. 🙂

I know it’s hard but stick to that r & r and I feel like I’m going back in time reading about your injury since I had something very similar. Maybe get a massage…do something non workout related to treat yourself. Be kind to that amazing body of yours 🙂 I am praying that you have a speedy and restful recovery! Big hugs!!

Fire crotch is never good. Just sayin’. I hope you do really take some time to rest! I hate hearing you’re in pain. I would totally take care of you if you were closer! xoxo

Oh and we love the Magic Bullet, but haven’t tried the Nutribullet. My grandmother got one recently and has yet to try it. She does that all them time…

Were does one begin to comment? Being locked out of your house? Crotch on fire? Or hurting a rib reaching for food? Sigh. I so get you. 🙂 Have a great rest on that body of yours. Looking forward to hearing about the Nutribullet. I have the Magic one.

    Enjoy your evening. 🙂

  18. 18

Oh it’s so hard to rest– the mind plays such games on us! Good luck! When I come home the thing I love most is cuddling with my little one and sleeping in my bed!

  19. 19

REST & HEAL!!!! We all hate to hear it but it is a must!!!! 🙂 All will be better after that!

On the rib, if it does not feel better – do get it checked!!! Not going to say why cause it just worries people for no reason but do get it checked if it continues to hurt…
