Hope your Mother’s Day weekend is off to a good start!
If it isn’t yet, well, hopefully this recipe and giveaway will help.
So let’s see, I was just talking to STUFT Daddy yesterday how I really want to focus more on nutrition for the boys. I’ve been a little lazy lately with making sure they are eating the right things. Life gets busy, we all get tired, I let the boys eat random snacks or whip together a quick lunch or dinner that is not the healthiest. (Thank goodness for Trader Joe’s by the way for quick, easy dinners.)
I decided my gift to my boys this Mother’s Day is to get back on track with family nutrition. I really want the boys to get more involved with choosing better foods and knowing how to eat better.
I had this brilliant idea to have a daily chart so we could all make sure that everyone is eating their fruit and vegetables. I think it will also help me be accountable in planning out meals and snacks for everyone. I found a bunch of fun nutrition printables on this website that I liked.
My favorite ones that I’m going to give a little try are these:
You know what else is really cool and packed with good for you nutrition?
And, as much as I try to get the boys to eat it, they haven’t always been fans of the big chunks of nuts, which ironically is one of my favorite parts about it.
NuttZo is coming out with a brand new creamy version.
I know, pretty freaking awesome.
I love NuttZo for so many reasons. If I listed them all this post would be way too long.
Although we haven’t met in person yet, the amazing lady behind NuttZo, Danielle, is a San Diego local and has one heck of a story behind her famous nut butter.
She created NuttZo after adopting two boys from an orphanage in the Ukraine who were malnourished and picky eaters. Her story is an inspiration to all mamas out there. The Huffington Post did a really great little article on her here.
So, not only is the background behind this nut butter a great one, but friends, it tastes fabulous as well. It’s also organic, has seven nuts and seeds, is a complete protein on its own and provides a good amount of Omega 3′s (healthy fats).
It’s a great topping for just about anything. This is what it went on the other day.
It’s also great for baking. One of our favorites are these NuttZo Doughtzel Balls.
I was lucky enough to receive an advanced sample of the new creamy NuttZo that doesn’t actually hit the shelves until June. Obviously I felt that I had to created some new balls.
I used this amazing chocolate creamy goodness to make some new healthy protein balls.
I got a little extra help of course.
These balls are awesome. I modified my Better STUFT Nut Butter Balls recipe a bit. I used ripe bananas so there isn’t any added sugar and subbed in protein powder for nonfat milk powder and added a little chia. I wasn’t sure if they’d turn out the way I wanted, but hey, what do you know, they did.
Here you go.
STUFT NuttZo Monkey Balls
1 cup mashed ripe bananas (about 2 large)
1 cup NuttZo CREAMY Chocolate (or other)
1 cup oats
1/4 cup chia
3/4 cup crushed cereal of choice
1 1/2 cup vanilla flavored protein powder
1/2 cup coconut flakes
Mix all ingredients together in large bowl. Scoop out in balls and place on wax paper in airtight container. Put in fridge for at least a couple of hours. These can be stored in the fridge or frozen.
*These are pretty sticky right at first. After awhile in the fridge they hold together much better. They also freeze well.
Warning- It is very hard to resist licking all utensils used in making these. We had a little bit of an issue over here finding enough things for everyone to lick.
Luckily there were enough balls to go around.
Luckily, there are even some stashed in the freezer for emergencies.
Okay, GIVEAWAY time!
One lucky winner will win an advanced tasting of a very special jar of NuttZo CREAMY that won’t be available for sale until June.
Five other winners will receive one jar of each of the crunchy flavors.
Sooooooo awesome, right?
6 winners: 1 lucky one to get the new creamy NuttZo and 5 others get 3 jars each of the crunchy. This just makes me smile, NuttZo style of course.
