Prolotherapy and Places to Be

I’m having a hard time concentrating at the moment. I’m exhausted and haven’t had any real or artificial sugar ALL DAY. That’s a big thing for me. I kind of feel like I’m in detox. I have a feeling I might get a little grumpy in about an hour or so. Is that normal?

Smile

Workout: Today was a rest day. Managed a short little workout on the elliptical at home early in the morning and that was all.

I had my first prolotherapy appointment this morning.

Totally ironic that these signs for the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon were all over the darn place.

IMG_3102

I’m supposed to be running it, yet I can’t run at all at the moment and am getting prolotherapy on the race course instead. Lovely.

IMG_3100

Life is funny isn’t it?

Anyhoo…

Here’s a description of prolotherapy from my doctor’s website.

I got a little nervous once I got into the room and had to sign this.

IMG_3099

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. The whole appointment took about 20 minutes.

IMG_3097

I got two injections- one in my hip and the other in my lower back. It hurt more than I thought it would and my left “cheek” is a little tender at the moment, but all went well. I’ve been taking it easy since my appointment and am just not supposed to work out for 24 hours. He gave me the okay to teach my classes tomorrow morning though.

My next appointment is in 2 weeks. Until then I have no plans on running and I’m making a promise to myself to eat as clean as I can until then (hence the no sugar/artificial sugar today).

Oh, which reminds me, I’m excited some of you might want to jump on board with the whole clean eating and no sugar/artificial sugar thing. I actually kind of want to hug you! He he. I’m still trying to figure out exactly which direction to go. I’m researching the 21 Day Sugar Detox versus It Starts With Food or just kind of a modified Practical Paleo type thing. I think I might need a few grains though. My body likes whole grains. Hmmmm…..

Anyhoo…

Somehow I talked the family into going with me to my appointment this morning. I may or may not have bribed them a bit.

IMG_3103

STUFT Daddy had big plans for us though. There’s a new exhibit at the San Diego Zoo so we thought we’d check it out since we were in the area.

I made sure to take my shots (both espresso and chia) like a good mama on the way in.

IMG_3105

Yeah, an americano without any sweetener. That’s going to take some time to get used to, it was a little rough.

The zoo was awesome though.

IMG_3113

I love giraffes. See the little baby one back there?

IMG_3109

They have this whole new Australian Outback area and a new exhibit called “Koalafornia”. Cute.

IMG_3106IMG_3107

There’s a koala in the tree. I promise.

Smile

Obviously before we left we had to ride the ski ride again to look for the hat we lost the last time.

IMG_3116

No such luck. Shocker. at least the view was beautiful.

IMG_3118

We worked up quite an appetite so we went to the cutest little hole in the wall place in downtown San Diego.

IMG_3124

Darband 5th Avenue Grill

It was a bit pricey, but it was the best Persian and Mediterranean food.

IMG_3120IMG_3133

I went with the chicken shish kabobs.

IMG_3122IMG_3129

Andrew went with filet and chicken or something expensive and manly like that. He even took a picture for me.

IMG_3131

We got hummus

IMG_3126

and our meal came with all sorts of other Persian type goodies on the side.

IMG_3125IMG_3127IMG_3132

I had to ask for the sriracha. They always have the good stuff hiding in the back. Ha.

Smile

It was so good. Love finding little hidden gem restaurants. Our friend told us about this one, so we’re not the cool ones who discovered it, but we’ll just pretend okay?

Okay, so big day tomorrow.

Not sure if any of you are local “San Di-ago” folks, but there’s an awesome new gym in 4S Ranch and tomorrow is the GRAND OPENING. It’s the Sweat Haus, it’s an amazing facility and I’ll be teaching a couple of classes there starting next week.

I’m teaching a quick HIIT class tomorrow at 9:45 that’s free for anyone to come to. There are lots more classes going on too. Should be a really fun event. Let me know if you’re planning on going. Would love to meet up!

And, well, I may not be running the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon Sunday, but I’m going to go hang out at the expo with the some of the cool people (this girl and this guy to name a few) that are racing. We’re meeting there at 3:00 pm tomorrow. I’m going to be like the tag-a-long groupie.

My stud of a friend Sarah is racing too. She is a rock star. She’s ran about 10 marathons since we ran the LA Marathon in March (and won her most recent one) while I’ve just fed my face and collected unused race bibs. Lovely.

Okay, I’m off.

Have a great night! Hey hey it’s the weekend!

What do you have planned?

Any Persian food lovers out there?

Um, it was not easy and it was only a day. LOL. I have a long way to go. Do you do sugar at all?

      • Sara Grambusch says:

Nope, no sugar. It’s not hard for me though because I don’t want it. If you did a Whole30 by the book you wouldn’t want it either. Brain chemistry. :)

Good job on doing the no sugar– its hard but after awhile it’s not bad at all– I like unsweetened almond milk and a dash in cinnamon!

I hope the injections help! I bet the boys loved seeing all the animals at the zoo. Mediterranean food is so good, I go to a small local place that’s really cheap near my house. The owner is always really friendly and portions are huge.

I am a huge fan of juicing. I juice everything. No sugar unless it is naturally in the fruits I juice. Good luck to you. I will look for you after the run.

Hi Kristin, my name is Karlie and I am from Sydney, Australia, mum of Jucody’s and Kalea. I have been checking out your blog for a few weeks now since I decided to run a half marathon but once I saw the Australia zoo part I knew it was time to post. I love your site, I love seeing what fun new things you are making to eat although some we can’t get here. I love the quirky things you do, I share many of them and now I don’t feel so weird.
I love training, it’s an excape, I love to challenge myself and am one of those people who if I said I will run for an 1hr will do it even if I have to run up and down my street cause I got back in 59mins! Weird I know.
Just wondering if Aussies can enter your competition?
    Thanks again for inspiring me
    Karlie

Karlie- Thanks for commenting! Did you run your half marathon yet? Oh, I love your kids’ names. ;) Certain giveaways you can enter. I’ll try to list the specific ones that are open to Aussies and other non US residents. :)

      • Karlie says:

Thanks for replying, i was so excited. The 1/2 marathon is not till September so i am in preparation phase. Running a few times a week with a long on the weekend (11km). I have so many questions i would love to ask you but wont bother you with them.
        Love your work
P.S i had injections in my shoulders when i was training for Dragon Boat world championships and they weren’t very fun. The only consolation is the pain does ease.

I need to do a sugar detox too! I’m not that bad with my daily sugar intake, I’ve been very careful with it the past year, but I still need to do a full detox one of these days. I’m looking forward to following along with how yours plays out and the solutions you come up with. Fingers crossed on this therapy!

My Hubby’s from Australia, maybe we should just come see you at the zoo since we can’t afford to take a family of 4 to Australia right now!

Oh man, i really hope this treatment works. Shots suck. Wish I was close by and I’d come take that class! Hope you have a good weekend.

I have finally banished sugar – haven’t had it since Christmas and now I couldn’t imagine it back in my diet, my body avoids it like the plague. I do however have nunaturals stevia extract when I feel like a muffin in a mug or coconut oil cocoa chocolate. It is the most natural form and is by far the best I have tasted. Hoping the prolotherapy works, we need you to get back to running again!

Thanks for the zoo photos! Made my morning. I am not going to tell you how much sugar I ate yesterday although perhaps it was for you and I didn’t know it? We actually have sun today. Have a great weekend! :)

OUCH on the injections but if they help…. :)

I always love the family pics – which I say all the time but I do! :)

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm, sugar detox.. I will cheer you on! At 55, about balance in life for me & not giving up my cookie weekend treats or even trying to go no sugar although I don’t have much, I know there is added in some things I eat – I do my best. :) GOOD LUCK! :)

Thanks Jody! I’m all about balance too, but have been consuming a little too much of the artificial stuff so it’s time to make some changes. :)

Great job on starting the sugar detox!! :) However, I just wanted to ask if you were aware that Sriracha contains sugar? Just wanted to bring it to your attention though, because I wasn’t sure if you knew already. Good luck with the detoxing!

  16. 16

Good luck with the detox/clean eating. Keeping up with fun family events like that will surely take your mind of the sugar… or lack thereof. :)

  17. 17

Love finding hole in the wall places like that! Sounds like a great day! I’m really hoping your injury feels better from this therapy. I know it’s beyond frustrating! I’ve been thinking about backing off of my stevia. I don’t do sugar, but I do love my stevia.

Sounds exciting- you teaching your class at that gym!! I’m in South OC and wondering about going to your class and sweating like a pig! “Sweat Interval” sounds like it will be a tough class!! YES- any kind of detox is hard!!! Hang in there- YOU can do it!!!
Hope you have a restful weekend with your beautiful family!!

OMG! The world wanted us to meet but we unintentionally narrowly avoided it! I didn’t realize you were an SD Local, so am i! I ran the RnR marathon today and I totally missed you at the expo. Ahh we could have gotten a picture together. Also, I live on rancho bernardo road, less than 2 miles from 4s Ranch! haha.
