Not sure if you saw this from Facebook earlier today.
No joke.
Um, yeah. Today was the worst by far. Tired, irritable, bloated, lethargic, blah, blah, blah.
I haven’t been sleeping nearly enough either so I’m sure that really helps the situation.
I rallied today and tried some things I thought might change the grumpiness.
I used a new mug for my plain Americano.
Had a late breakfast with my very last kabocha squash and a sorry attempt of a Whole 30 type protein maple cake.
Seriously, that’s my last kabocha. I didn’t give a rip how bloated it was going to make me, I needed it. Ha.
The boys’ swimming lessons got cancelled, so my plans to try out pool running did too. It was kind of a relief.
We went to open gym instead.
I wore these motivational Reebok capris.
I’m not a cross-fitter, but it doesn’t stop me from getting and wearing the pants to try to be cool.
We even had a picnic.
Grilled cheese on that new bread with fresh strawberries for the boys.
Leftover random broccoli slaw chicken stir fry from last night for me wrapped up in some Swiss chard.
They were a little messy.
Then I tried to figure out what the heck I’m going to to with this little gem.
It’s a kohlrabi. Got it at the Farmer’s Market earlier this week. Isn’t it a beauty?
Instagram people are saying to eat it raw with a little salt or vegetable dip. Have you tried that?
Well…..
I’ve said it before (only like a bazillion times) that when I’m tired I’m hungry.
I have definitely had too much squash, strawberries, coconut oil and Peanut Free NuttZo today as snacks. Oh well.
Definitely way too much natural sugar to be approved by the 21-Day Sugar Detox. Oopsies.
I was even so desperate for a nap this afternoon I laid down on the bed.
Didn’t sleep. Just laid there and thought about things I should’ve been doing.
What a waste of freaking time.
If any of you power nap or have a secret to power napping, I’d like to know how you do it.
Powered through my classes tonight at the gym just barely.
My black tanks were dirty so I sported my red Reebok tank loud and proud as if it said “It’s the squash people”. LOL.
Now I’m sitting on the couch getting ready to consume a roasted sweet potato with a little more Peanut Free NuttZo and some unsweetened chocolate.
Just can’t get enough today.
Lovely.
Oh, but hey, look what I just found in my inbox.
I’m going to read up on that. I think it’s technically Day 4 for me on the Whole 30, I mean the STUFT Detox, but whatever.
Yep. That’s exactly how I felt all stinking day.
Good night! If things are quiet tomorrow it’s because I’m resting. I refuse to be grumpy with my boys two days in a row. They are my priorities.
I have an early morning spin class to teach and then it’s a rest day. It may just be an early start to the weekend kind of day.
I think you should maybe start your weekend early too.
Yes? Yes.
What do you do when you have one of those days?
Have you had kohlrabi? How do you eat it?
For those of you also doing some kind of nutritional change, detox, the 21-Day Sugar Detox or Whole 30–
How are you feeling?

you’re a doll. hang in there. good for you for the sugar detox, it’s tough, i know it! after a few days you’ll feel brilliant and food will taste better. you think you are bloated with your kabocha?? i used to eat loads of raw pumpkin, like you do with your kambocha. RAW. you have not seen bloat, trust me. 😉 I love kohlrabi it is like a giant round brocolli stalk, it’s delicious. i just cut it into slices and spread a little mustard on it, like a big green cracker – or grated it finely into a salad. It’s nice mostly raw. Yours is huge, i’m jealous!
Ha. Raw pumpkin???? I can’t imagine my tummy if I tried that .:)
kohlrabi is awesome! it’s kinda like broccoli stems. I steamed it a bit first then dipped in hummus.
Rest up friend, really. You deserve a good week off. Lots of walking and fresh air. <3
I’m usually totallllly against elimination type diets (I know whole30 “isn’t” a diet), but I’m actually kind of interested in trying it out. I’m going to see if I can sell the man on it tonight! Hope today is much better for you! Kay had her first day of gymnastics yesterday- so fun!!
Try adding full fat canned coconut milk to your coffee. Its creamy and delicious and has a natural sweetness. Much better than almond milk imo.
Cheer up camper. Hopefully today is better. It is Friday after all… 🙂 I totally have those days. Actually, I’ve had a few more than normal lately, but then again tired, cranky, and bloated does fit the bill for a preggo. haha
I want your feedback when you’re done with the Whole 30 please 😀
Unfortunately I am waaaayyyyy to familiar with “those days”. I usually try to get some exercise, connect with friends who always put me in a better mood, and remind myself to follow the golden rule. Not always easy, but definitely effective 🙂 Hope today is better!
When I have ‘one of those days’ I do a few different things depending on whats causing it. Sometimes I get to that moody point because I am overtired and just need to unplug and unwind so I’ll turn all electronics off and take a nap (usually meaning leaving work early)….or other times I just need to get a good sweat on so Ill hit the gym for a few hours and not leave until I am drenched in sweat
Blech… That does not sound fun at all. I’m pretty sure it might kill me. Or I might kill someone. Which means I should probably give it a try. Cue the denial.
On the bright side, I love that mug. 🙂
I’m having one of those days today. My kids were up at 5:30 and fighting by 5:40, ugh. I only made it 2 weeks on the Whole30 before quitting. I couldn’t take the lack of energy. I was constantly tired and crabby. I guess I need carbs, ha!!
I don’t comment very often, but I just want to say…even in your grumpiness, you are beautiful. Don’t be so hard on yourself 🙂 You set an awesome example of staying fit, eating healthy, and being a wonderful mom to your CUTE little boys 🙂 Take an early start to the weekend and enjoy the little things. Sometimes trying to stick to strict rules makes us lose focus on the bigger picture…and that bigger picture is you are an awesomely fit woman!! That didn’t happen overnight, it takes dedication & making healthy decisions MOST of the time, not ALL of the time. Consistency & balance is key, not perfection 🙂 Thank you for inspiring me!
Have you checked out the Whole30 timeline? http://whole9life.com/2013/01/whole30-timeline/
Basically it gives a run-down of how you are probably feeling each day. Great way to prepare and see into the future 🙂 Also somewhat hilarious 🙂 It sounds like day five will be a blast!
Oh, and I know when I first cut out grains and all of that stuff, it was a little strange how much my body changed. Like major detox. I was tired for the longest time but definitely bounced back. So scary to realize that the stuff I was eating was causing all of that.
You need YOU TIME!!!! Can hubby help with that. Maybe a couple hours just you & the pedicure or massage or just sit & have coffee alone somewhere???
LOVE the capris! And keep trucking, you are doing fantastic 🙂
