Sunday Morning Gratitude List and a Detox Approved Mocha


Good morning friends! Happy Sunday!

The boys and I slept in today. It was a first. It probably won’t happen again for at least 5 more years, but it was glorious.


Judah had big plans to play his video game until Mama was ready to get up.


Ha ha.


The STUFT Gratitude List

So, I’ve been wanting start a family gratitude list for awhile. The idea came from One Thousand Gifts (that I’m currently reading- slowly, but surely).

Every night before bed we talk about what we’re thankful for. I decided it was time to write them down as a family.

Our goal is to get to one thousand. 

We did the church thing last night wearing only our finest new clothes from Old Navy.


Pirate shirts, a nose picker and a prayer- church perfection, no?


When we sat down for dinner later I got out the book and explained the plan to the family.

We started our list.


Nothing too exciting for the first night, but since we can’t do the same “gifts”, I’m expecting some really great things to come. And I’m really not sure if STUFT Daddy’s was sarcasm or not. I attempted a zucchini crust pizza last night.


It wasn’t too bad, but I need to try it again before I post any kind of recipe. I made the standard supreme homemade pizza for Andrew and some cheese pizza for the boys.


For some reason they didn’t want to try my zucchini crust and I didn’t feel like fighting it. Once it’s perfected though, they better watch out. Ha.


I think I’m adjusting to the no sugar thing. I did not adjust very well to not having kabocha squash for a couple days though, so I broke down and had to buy a few.


Lately I’ve been roasting it with a little coconut oil, cinnamon, nutmeg, dark cocoa powder, cloves and sometimes some all spice in there. It makes the house smell delightful.


I miss mochas. I was especially missing one this morning.

I came up with a this STUFT Detox approved mocha. Don’t get me wrong, it doesn’t compare to the perfect summer mocha, but there are no artificial ingredients and it gets the job done.

Here you go.

STUFT Detox mocha

STUFT Detox Mocha

brewed espresso (or prepared instant espresso)

2 tablespoons cocoa powder 

1/3-1/2 ripe banana

1 1/2 unsweetened vanilla almond milk

sprinkle of cinnamon

splash of vanilla (optional)


Brew the espresso. Add the espresso to the cocoa powder.

Heat up the banana until it gets a little mushy and has more liquid.


Mush it up.


Whisk it together with the hot almond milk. I just microwaved the milk and used my handheld milk frother.


Add the milk banana mix to the chocolate espresso and viola.


Also very important is that it’s in a cute mug. You won’t even miss the sugar free syrup that way. Ha ha.

The best hubby in the world that already got them started for me.


(Having my own kabocha would be like a dream come true.)

My other plants that he planted for me and are doing mighty well.


And, well, these two cute guys that I get to spend the rest of the day with. I’m started to really appreciate and take advantage of these race free Sundays.


I’m going to make them some banana pancakes and then we’re headed to the gym for a little spinning action.

    I’m grateful for a getaway trip to Florida, I’m taking tomorrow. Good luck with the kabocha….can’t wait to hear if it works for you!

    I am grateful for an amazingly supportive husband!
    My friend’s dad grows kabocha squash in his backyard, so it CAN be done! My fingers are crossed for you!
    Did your mocha taste bananay it all or does the coffee override it?

    I love your gratitude list! What a great idea. Have you tried adding coconut oil to your mocha? My morning coffees have been a Keurig donut shop pod, 1 tsp. coconut oil, 1/2 tbl raw cacao powder, 1 packet of Xylitol (all natural sweetener) and then I use my little frother with coconut milk. Yum! It is so good. My mornings haven’t been the same since you introduced me to cocoa in coffee and the frother. 🙂 I hope you have a GREAT day!

      Hi Erin! Yes, I’ve totally tried adding coconut oil, but haven’t mixed it with cocoa powder. I must try that NOW! 🙂 Hope you’re doing well!

    Lurve that y’all are writing it down. I really should try it. I do have a conversation with God every day thanking him for my gifts he’s given me, my three boys and my husband.. Today I’m thankful we are playing tennis. It’s very competitive……… when we all stop laughing with each other about how skillfully we all are NOT! HAHAHAH THE BEST!!!!

    My boyfriend had to go back to cincinnati (an hour away) to grab some things today and I was more than happy to tag along so I could pick up some more kabocha squash! It’s just so good, I think I’m going to try it sweet style today, I usually dust do coconut oil and sea salt.

    Hey there, just checking in. So, I started the Whole30 on Friday so today is my 3rd day on the plan. I am digging it! The only thing I am struggling with a little is cutting back on the fruit because I am such a fruit person, especially this time of year when strawberries and stuff are in full force. Nonetheless, I am trying to be somewhat easy on myself and allowing myself to have a bit more fruit than the recommended and it’s working well. I have also recently discovered canned coconut milk. I was reading on some of the forums that almond milk in any variety when not homemade is not the best for the plan. So, I decided to try coconut milk out of a can – I’ve been buying the low fat variety so I can use it in green smoothies etc. Anyway, I bought some from TJ’s since we were in the states yesterday and I must say it’s quite delicious. I thought I would find it too sweet or overpowering but I am actually enjoying it so much more than almond milk, which is crazy given my love of almond milk. Anyway, just thought I would mention it. I will still likely think about getting almond milk on occasion if I really want it, but for now I am super happy with coconut milk. 🙂

        I definitely went through a bit of a slump in terms of energy earlier in the week but I have to say it’s getting easier each day. I cannot believe I passed up my all time favorite pretzel buns. During this time of year, there is a farm market that sets up close to where I work and myself and a bunch of colleagues often go by to get fruits/veggies and treats. Well, I didn’t get any treats and I didn’t get the infamous and soooo delicious pretzel buns. That was HARD> like seriously hard especially when they are warm and fluffy inside, gah! But now I feel really good about myself and I am hoping that at some point I just won’t crave it anymore. I think more than anything it’s kind of stressful eating around other people and feeling like I am restricted. 🙁

        How are you doing?

    P.S. – the low fat version of coconut milk simply has two ingredients: coconut milk and water. I suppose I could have bought the full fat version and watered it down but I figured this way I was good to go without worrying about exorbitant calorie intake. As crazy as it sounds I think that is primarily why I feared coconut milk because it’s so much more calorie dense. Oh well, it’s all good.

    ….AND I just wrote an novel on the joys of coconut milk, Oy Vey! Sorry about that, it’s just exciting that we’re going through this together. I don’t have any family or friends who are interested in jumping on this band wagon. 😉

    So, I know that you like hot sauce and peppers – have you ever had a ghost pepper?
    We have a little pepper debate going on in our house – my oldest son is all about peppers and spice (and I’m not!) – he thinks he could try one. I vote NO!!!

    I’m grateful that I had a weekend away in Palm Springs with three of my best girl friends. We celebrated one’s birthday, all had fun in the sun, and no one was sunburnt! I’m also grateful for a loving family.
