My Mezamshii Run and Mizuno Wave Sayonara Giveaway

My Mezamshii Run and Mizuno Wave Sayonara Giveaway

The following post is sponsored by my affiliation as a Mizuno Ambassador and FitFluential LLC on behalf of Mizuno.

I want to blab about my day a bit, show you some eats and my personal stylists, but I won’t. I’m sticking to my word for a change.

I will show you the cutest little purple carrot ever though.

He he. Try peeling that.

Okay, seriously, this post is about these little gems (that are kind of the same color as that teeny tiny carrot).

Remember how I got them last Friday?

Um yeah. Everyone knows mama’s going to be in a good mood when there’s a Mizuno package around the house.

I may have been awaiting their arrival for what seems like forever and I may have had some dreams about them before actually seeing them in person.

I just knew that these shoes would mean so much more to me because of where I’m at right now.

It’s not just about the shoes though. (Even though I could admire them all day- couldn’t you?)

It’s been exactly a year since my very first post about the Mizuno Mezamashii Project. Crazy.

Back then I was just a crazy marathon running mama obsessed with her Mizunos. Oh wait, I guess that’s still the case, but now I’m beyond blessed to be a Mizuno Ambassador also.

This post is not just about how amazing Mizuno as a company and brand is (but they are). It’s not just how these new shoes are pretty much a game changer in running, but it’s how they just might be a life changer for me as well. It’s all timing. It’s all Mezamashii.

Let’s chat just the shoes first.

Introducing the Mizuno Wave Sayonara.

Don’t blink or you’ll miss it.

This is more my speed right now. Ha.

I’ve been anxiously awaiting these newly created shoes because of my infatuation with my Elixir 8s. For the past couple of years I have only raced in Elixirs because they are lighter, yet still supportive. I’ve recently been doing more of my faster training runs in them also.

Well, these new Wave Sayonara shoes are referred to as the “design love-child of the Wave Precision and Wave Elixir”. I’ve never worn the Precision shoes since I over pronate a bit, but I’ve heard many great things about them from neutral runners.

Mizuno introduces the Wave Sayonara – our lightest everyday training shoe yet.

Speed is now more accessible than ever and something that can obtain on a daily basis.

Sayonara is light, low-to-the-ground, and versatile so any run can be as fast as ever.

The euphoric foam midsole ensures the proper cushioning without added weight and bulk so runners experience a light, smooth, comfortable, and responsive ‘ride.’

Now, running enthusiasts can wave goodbye to slow and say hello to more energized, mezamashii running.

Here are the shoe specifics.

Here are some very important things you need to know about them.

– Versatile and performance neutral with “as-needed” support elements
– U4ic midsole delivers optimal shock attenuation, durability, and superior ride that is 30% lighter than AP+
– U4ic is innovatively light and well cushioned
– G3 Sole features lightweight, superior traction
– Mizuno Wave Technology provides the perfect balance of lightweight cushioning and stability
– Blown rubber sole for optimal flexibility

I don’t know about you, but I like to get a little up close and personal with new running shoes before putting them on my feet. Let’s see here.

Fabulous colors.

Lightweight shoe with laces and a tongue that stays in place.

DynamotionFit that provides just the right amount of cushioning  and support while still being a very light shoe.

Good midsole design for the combination of durability and a light ride.

Yep. All the best in one shoe.

Here’s a little story.

My last prolotherapy appointment was two weeks ago. I was anxious to start running then as I’ve finally been feeling better with my injury and all, but my doctor said not yet.

I haven’t written an injury update for awhile. My last injury update was kind of a downer and after I wrote that one I stopped keeping track of how long it’s been since I’ve ran. I just didn’t want to think about it.

Sure, I’ve been busting my bootie on the elliptical and teaching a little extra harder with my spin and other classes, but it’s just not the same as hitting the pavement.

Lately I’ve been feeling better. Way better.

Not like I’m ready to go out and run a marathon or anything. Dang, my last one was the LA Marathon. Seems like so long ago.

I went to bed last Friday night and told myself if I woke up early on my own and had that “feeling”, then I’d let myself take out my new kicks for a try.

I woke up at 5:45 am last Saturday and new it was time. I can’t explain it, I just woke up and had that feeling like it was time. Nervous, scared, indecisive about the whole thing, etc.

But, I got decked out in all my Mizuno gear for a little extra motivation (matching of course), put on the shoes

and gave running a go.

The only way for me to properly do my first run in these shoes and my first run post several weeks of was to run naked.

It was quiet. It was slow. It was short.

It was glorious.

We (the shoes and I) survived just about 4 miles pretty much pain free.

The shoes were comfortable, light, super smooth and supportive. Everything I imagined they would be.

Yes, I cried.

Yes, I felt blessed beyond belief to just be able to get out there and run.

Yes, I didn’t realize just how much I’ve missed running. Not just running, but also just how much it really is a huge part of who I am. It’s my passion. I feel like it’s something I’m meant to do.

I know I’m not in control of the future or what really will happen with my hip dysplasia and all. I’m okay with just being a recreational runner if that’s what’s in the plans. I’m also okay with realizing overcoming an injury takes a lot of time and patience.

But, this is just the beginning of a comeback. I really feel like it is. I feel it in my heart that there is so much more on the way.

This is just the beginning.

The start to something brilliant.

The second (or third, or forth, or hundredth) chance I’ve been given to do this the right way.

To keep my life priorities in check.

To make sure my new promotion is number one.

To train smart.

To train for life.

To fuel the right way.

To rest.

To be thankful for every single step I am blessed to take. Each one is truly a gift.

Each one is Mezamashii.

Speaking of, want to be inspired and get goose bumps? Watch this video. My good friend Michele is in it. She is one heck of an inspiring endurance racing mom.

It’s about finding yourself.

It’s about finding your Mezamashii.

Running is an hour of my day where no one needs me to do anything for them! It’s me against Run Keeper! It’s me and my body pushing itself to achieve my first half marathon! It’s me running my guts out to tick off something on my bucket list! The upside is……………my Mizunos would get me there faster!

I’ve only been running for a couple of years. I’m slow but I run. I will never forget the day I walked into a shoe store and got “professionally” fitted for running shoes. I felt somewhat intimidated…I lie, I was terrified. Those people were real runners! They were all so nice though. And that’s the day I got my first pair of Mizunos :). Man oh man, I would love to get my grubby little fingers on these new puppies…would def make my year!!!

Love Mizuno! Such a great company and awesome shoes. My mezamashii moment was definitely running my first marathon (McM). I decided to run it last minute with my longest training run at 13 miles. Never thought I would make it the entire distance but it turned into one of best runs of my life. It hurt but it was a good hurt. Finished at a decent time of 4:30. That run changed my life. It helped me realize that anything is possible! It was my “brilliant run”.

Running is about you and how it makes you feel; I enjoy it because it allows my brain to process the previous day’s events; and maybe what is in store for the rest of the day; its a time to reflect and learn. No matter how tired I may be or those days where I just don’t feel like running I KNOW if I just get out there and do it I will feel so much better than if I didn’t! and one of my fav quotes: ” THE MORE I RUN, THE MORE I LOVE MY BODY. NOT BECAUSE IT’S PERFECT, FAR FROM IT, BUT BECAUSE WITH EVERY MILE IT IS PROVING TO ME THAT I AM CAPABLE OF MORE THAN I EVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE.” happy running! So glad to see your slowly getting back out there!!

Running for me is about taking time for me. With 3 little kids it had been about 10 years since I did something that was for me and I love how it has changed me mentally and physically. It is also about being a good roll model for my kids and especially my daughter. We completed our first season of Girls on the Run and she was so proud of herself at the finish of the 5k. 2 years ago I never would have even thought of having her involved in such a wonderful program.

A few more weeks and some small runs later, my Mezamashi moment showed up, it was getting out there and running pain free, feeling strong and loving every step. It’s amazing to be back, I’ve missed my run.

Running has taken on a whole new meaning for me this year. I was finally able to break thru the wall that I would hit at 5miles. I thought I would never run more than 5miles at a time. I can now say my longest run so far has been 11 and climbing!

    Elise Foree says:

Girl you made me tear up. When I have been out of commission for running, everyone says, “oh you can do xxx or you can do yyy” but it’s NOT the same as running. It just isn’t. I cried too on my first run after injury and after my blood clot ordeal.

  39. 39
    Jenn Prevot says:

Im so glad you can run again! I think the majority of us runners have had an injury before and they are not easy to overcome thats what makes running so difficult, only the strong can make it through the long haul 🙂

    Kelli says:

Well I run…actually I walk more than running, but I interval train and it works for me. I have always told my family, “I run because I can” there are so many that don’t have that ability. I honestly think about that every time I’m running. I’m grateful that I can do it, I am definitely not as efficient as I would like to be, but I do it

YAY so glad you got a good run under your belt! here’s to many more –

  42. 42
    Danielle says:

    Joy says:

I am so, so happy to hear that you got to run for 4 miles and that it was wonderful for you.

Running means the world to me, too. And just like you, I’ve felt happier and more blessed when I’m able to run now because I was plagued with running injuries for almost 2 years. So now when I run, whether it’s a good run or a bad run, or anywhere in between, I’m just so happy that I can actually run. It’s my therapy and helps define me as a person. I love reaching for new goals and I love the dedication it takes to train for a race.

    Abby says:

Running makes me feel strong and gives me a feeling of accomplishment. Running has not always been easy for me, but now I am known as “that runner girl”.

Those shoes are so cute! I’d love to win them. Their bright colour might give me the extra motivation to run that I’m struggling with at the moment!!!! And for me, running is my outlet. Without it I feel like I’m missing something. Kind of like my wine!

    Nicole O says:

I only fell in love with running last year. Overweight my whole life, it wasn’t something I ever felt I could do before. I joined a gym, took some spinning classes (which I love, too) and slowly reached out to the treadmill. After finishing my c25k training indoor, I took to the streets and then nothing else could compare. That freedom, that time that is your own. It’s an amazing feeling. And races? Forget about it; that’s a whole other level of wonderful. Not even a little bit of arthritis in my knee will keep me away for long. I’ll just keep running.
    (PS- these shoes look amazing)

  51. 51

Okay, okay… I’m not much for getting mushy, but I looooove purple, orange, and pink running shoes. The first two because I’m a Clemson fan (orange is hard to find sometimes), and pink because… well just because. 🙂

I am an Elixer lover too. Would love to try these.

To me, running means freedom. Freedom from the demands and frustrations of everyday life. Running also gives me a chance to get out of my head and live more fully in my body. Wonderful.

  54. 54
    Erin says:

Running gives me a sense of accomplishment….like I’ve done something good for the day (and myself). When I don’t get a run in, I tend to be in less of a good mood 🙂 I’ve never worn pink shoes….ever…but these look mighty nice! I’ve run in the Elixers before, so I’d love to try these!!

  55. 55

I’m not sure I can put into words what running does for me.

First and foremost it makes me a better mother to my children. I used to feel guilty about the “running time” that I was apart from them. Then I realized that in order to be the best me I could while I was with them I had to take care of myself as well.

There’s nothing like completing a 10 mile run to make you realize just how strong you really are, mentally and physically.

I’ve had many Mezamshii running moments (I actually feel incredibly blessed by that). My first one was 3 years ago when I stepped on the treadmill, pumped it up to jogging speed to “see how long I could do it” and found myself running 13 minutes non-stop the very first time I EVER tried it. I’ve been obsessed ever since!

  56. 56
    Darbi says:

Running allows me to regroup and focus on me and if Im being the best me I can be. Also, I have a pair or coral tennis shoes with blue laces that Im really loving right now.

  57. 57

I’ve been running consistently for about 2 1/2 years now, and though it’s been all that time, every single run is still a challenge for me. It’s mostly a mental battle, and what I love about running is that every time I get out there, I win that battle. There’s nothing else in life like that for me.
And because this is getting too mushy, my absolute favorite color running show is pink, but I really love any pair that’s bright!

  58. 58
    Jill says:

Running is something I never thought I would be able to do. I thought it was the pinnacle of healthy activity and I was just too heavy. Long story short, with the help of my Mizunos, I have run two 1/2 marathons, countless 5ks and tons of hours of quality alone time!

  59. 59
    Lexa says:

Congrats on the run! I just love to be outdoors and my only responsibly is to run. I feel like I always have somewhere to be or something to do so it is nice just to only have to run.

  60. 60
    Claire says:

I have a love/hate relationship with running. For different reasons in my life I’ve had to stop, but I always miss it and go back. :). Congrats on healing and feeling stronger. 🙂

  61. 61
    Tracy OConnell says:

My favorite shoe color is blue but running to me is my therapy. I am a stay at home mom of three busy kids. Running is my time to just be. I can think about what I want, I can listen to what I want, go as fast as I want. It clears my head and makes me a better mother. It helps make the time spent with my kids more quality time because I have worked through everything else while running!

  62. 62
    Jennifer says:

I am in the market for some new running shoes. I had previously switched to the Newtons because I thought I had plantar facititis, but turns out I dont. They just didnt quite feel right on my feet. Id love to give the mizunos a try 😉

  69. 69

I’ve never been a big runner.. I’ve only completed a few 5Ks. I have, however, made a goal for myself to complete at least a 10K in the future. And depending on how my runs go, maybe even up to a half marathon. But for now, just the10K 😉

Where do I start with what running means to me!? To keep it short and sweet, running reminds me of all the blessings in my life and what I’m grateful to have and to be doing. It also helps me realize my potential and that I can achieve anything I want to. It puts life into perspective for me, and helps me embrace the high and low moments — there are always highs and lows in running, and by tackling those, I feel like I can do anything!

Running is my way of coping, it’s my escape, my time to connect with nature. It’s what I look forward to on a daily basis. Running gives me something to look forward to as I complete intense physical therapy to overcome my hamstring injuries. Running is pure bliss.

    Jaime says:

Running, for me, helps me gain control. I like to feel in control of life and everything it throws at me, but we all know that is impossible. Running is the one thing I can do to feel like I have power, strength, and control. The moments when I’m running, whether it’s for 30 minutes or 3 hours, I feel peace with myself and my life.

    Jill C. says:

My Mezamshii was getting to run for the first time in almost two months this past Sunday. I’ve been confined to my bed due to my endometriosis, but I’ve finally recovered from surgery, and I have been on three runs in my new Mizuno Inspires. It’s felt amazing!

So I am torn between the pink or the blue for the favorite color. I could see going with either. My moments are things like a rainy start to a hike with my dog that then clears up into the start of a pretty spring day. That was just this week.

I am glad you got even a recreational run in. As someone that doesn’t run as regularly right now, but have gone on and off, I do know those moments that you just need to run and how good they feel.

  98. 98
    Laurel C says:

I got to try these out, because I work at a running shoe store and the Mizuno shoe rep brought them in. All I have to say is LOVE! These are awesome!! I can’t wait to get them!

    Shelby Snyder says:

Running is truly an amazing experience. When I first started my weight loss journey I didn’t consider my a “runner”. After making a run part of my daily routine I realized how much I got out of it. Not only does running make me healthy physically, it helps me clear my mind and unwind. Running lets me escape from the world and have time to myself. It’s the best therapy a girl could ask for! If only I had some Mizunos to hit the pavement with….

  100. 100

That’s awesome that you were able to get back out there. I am loving the bright shoe combos – but don’t have a favorite. The pink on these are so fun!

I am SO happy for you Kristin! I am about 7 months pregnant and I kept running all of the way until 20 weeks (I even did a 1/2) but it feels like an injury to not be running as much. So glad that you are getting tha piece of yourself back- I would’ve cried too! 🙂 here’s to you and many more happy runs to come!

    Cassidy says:

Running is health. Vivacity, strength, more the power of the mind combined *with* the body. There was a time in my life when I was so ill that I could barely walk two miles. And now I can run twice that amount. There’s nothing that reminds me how far I’ve come than running does. Now that I’ve started, I can’t imagine ever living without running. <3

    Kaitlin says:

Running has come to mean so much to me in the past couple of years! I used to play soccer but after college, I fell into a rut and would only go to the gym because I felt like I “had to.” Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with running and I can honestly say it’s now PART of me!! Crazy to think about when I used to hate running at soccer practice and stuff. How things change 🙂

    Kristen says:

Oh my gosh how I would LOVE to win a pair of these shoes! As you may, or may not, recall – I’m recovering from my own “injury”…arthroscopic knee surgery due to a nasty joint infection and I am just now returning to my love after 5 months (!!!!) off. I can completely relate to your tears of joy and the mezamashii of it all coming back together. I remember when I was at Physical Therapy and had been walking on the treadmill and my therapist said “do you want to bump it up to a jog?” and like a little kid in a candy store my response was, “CAN I?!?!?” When she replied by bumping up the speed I was ecstatic!!! I could barely contain myself! Yes, it was hard, and yes, it wore me out…but it was like being able to breathe again after being under water. A little dramatic? Perhaps, but I think you understand exactly what I mean!!

Okay, so now that I’ve written a short novel…Mizuno’s are already my “drug” of choice and those pink beauties are calling my name!!! Time for both of us to get fast, STUFT Mama!!

My running moment is probably THE DAY I RAN TO MY DENTIST APPOINTMENT! I didn’t have a car and everyone left their phones at home…. SO I RAN 1.5 MILES to my appointment. I didn’t bring my ear buds so I had my phone play music on its speakers as I ran through town. When I got there I was the BIGGEST sweatiest mess… But I made it :PP Something I would never forget. hahah fun times

  112. 112
    Anna says:

Running is my “me” time. I get up before most people and explore my town, enjoy the sunrise and have time to think. There are always moments in the middle where I start having that voice in my head telling me that I can’t do it and that I should take the shorter path. When I ignore that voice and keep on going, it is the biggest sense of accomplishment for me. Running makes me happy, plain and simple.

Running to me….means pushing my physical and emotional boundaries. I’m not built to be a runner. When people find out I run I know that there is always doubt. People don’t believe I can. Running to me is to be able to prove people wrong and find my inner strength to be awesome.

I’m a huge mizuno running shoe & other apparel fan! I’ve been running in wave inspires for many years now, started out with the 6s & now really loving the 9s! And the mizuno shoes colors just keep getting better! Would love to try a new lighter pair for track workouts & racing! And last my Mezamshii moment was definitely back when I ran Marine Corp marathon this past Fall while having an achilles injury. My childhood friend had just passed away the month before & even though I had to mostly walk the last 10 miles & finished close to an hour & half later than I normally would, just knowing I was out there running & thinking of her & how she’d never want me to give up, that was the best running moment!

Wow what an inspiring post and video! For a while there I had lost my love of running..at least I had thought I had. Instead of running because I loved the feeling of being free I had started to run for strict competition. I began to dread each race instead of look forward them. It reached a point of no return about 6 months ago. I quit running…I started running again three weeks ago and felt that feeling that I used to feel when I was running for myself..it was

My big running moment was yesterday…I always work through my problems during my runs, but yesterday was the hardest. @4:30 am I was lacing my shoes to get ready for my run when I got a call from oldest son (only 23 yrs old), who is in the military stationed 1000’s of miles away. He wanted to let me know that recent tests came back regarding his stomach problems were back and the diagnosis was….CANCER. I did my best to hold it together as he told me was actually on his way to the hospital for his 2nd round of treatment, and could I keep his condition secret from everyone but our immediate family. I still went running, crying the entire 11 miles…but when I was done I KNEW that we would beat this. I know over the next few months I’ll be logging alot of miles as a way to cope, and I could really use a ew pair of shoes

Thanks for the great review of the soon-to-be-released (I’m super excited by the way) Wave Sayonara. A very informative and insightful summary of the shoe and how it fits into your running routine. It would be great to incorporate a new pair of Wave Sayonara’s into my Mizuno rotation — they will fit nicely alongside the Elixir 8, Inspire 9, and Rider 15. Keep up the great blogging!

My Mezamashii moment is every run that I get to run for me. Every run that I get to run for my kids. Every run that I get to run for my wife. Running started as a way for me to get healthier, but it truly became a way of life for me. And it is becoming a way of life for my kids. My kids have been so inspired that they ask me to go on runs with them. My oldest son (11) went out for track at school. My middle daughter (5) begged me until I finally bought her a running skirt. My younger son (8) loves running and it is helping him with his weight. He has Prader-Willi Syndrome and everyday is a fight for him. For his height he is morbidly obese due to his syndrome, but thanks to taekwondo and running he has been able to pretty much maintain his weight for about a year and a half. He is truly an inspiration to our whole household. My true Mezamashii moment is seeing my kids share in the same love that I have of running.

Nothing can replace that or take that away from me, running has always been my passion but that trumped everything else I have done with running.

I’ve been wearing Mizuno shoes for years. I was a collegiate volleyball player and I only wore Mizuno. During high school, I only wore Mizuno volleyball shoes. Volleyball was my life and it made me happy , determined and confident. Many years after college, I injured my back playing volleyball and had to have surgery. I stopped playing volleyball. I had my two boys and was nervous to get back into playing volleyball. I did, slowly, but the opportunities to play were few. I knew I needed to start something that would give me the self-satisfaction and determination that I used to have. I started running. That feeling that I longed for started to come back. I cried happy tears after my first half marathon and cried tears of confidence during my first marathon. And now, a few years later, it’s all come full circle…my Mizuno Wave Rider 16s and a beautiful early morning run. I have the feeling. AND, at 40 years old, I’m back on the volleyball court, sand court, grass…whereever. Playing. 🙂

Oh man, this post really struck a chord with me. I’ve been there. Running is my outlet for so many things in my life I don’t know what I’d do without it. I hope that you’ve turned the corner and are able to get back to regular running soon!
As for fave shoe colour – the brighter the better, although these days I’m really digging purple and pink. 😀

I love the bright ones too.

Oh boy. My story… I’ve only been running for two years. Started with the need to run two miles so I could do a woman’s only mini-tri before I turned 50. Getting that tri in before that landmark passed was on my bucket list. I am a competitive swimmer; a coach actually, so the swim was a piece of cake. Had an awesome new Cannondale carbon fiber bike, my gift to me for surviving a divorce. The ride was a breeze, clipped in and everything. I was doing awesome in the tri, and then I had to run. Okay run/walk; okay walk/run/walk. Loved the feeling of completing. Wanted to get my run on so I could compete. Since that race I have competed in three other triathlons, numerous 5ks and just did a half metric century on my bike. And yes, running still kicks my butt. I love it. Running is forgiving; it’s humbling; it’s my “treat” when I have finished a big story (I’m a freelance writer when I am not coaching swimmers) and have hit the “send” button. I run in mud, rain, snow, heat – whatever. It is my solace; my think time. I do not run far or run fast; but I run. How running now defines me came full circle just last night at one of our summer swim meets. A former swimmer who now manages the pool where the meet was taking place, gave me a hug hello when I walked into the swim club and she then continued her work. Later after winning the meet and being thrown in the pool by my happy swimmers – it’s their main reason for wanting to win; to toss me in the pool – Elyse (my former swimmers) came up to me as I exited the pool. I always wear my swim suit under my coaching garb in case I need to get in the pool to walk beside one of my new 8 & Unders if they need me there to feel secure enough to swim the length of the pool. And it comes in handy if I get tossed in. Once in the water, I strip off my wet shorts and shirt and then have a suit on. Anyway, as I got out of the pool, Elyse – a gorgeous twenty-something beauty; all blonde, high-cheek boned and perky, grabs my wrist, and says, “Coach Sue. You look fantastic. I hope I look as good as you one day. Heck I wish I looked like you now. Are you a runner, too?” I caught myself before saying, “Not really,” paused and replied, “Yes. Yes, I am.” And then I thought to myself, “I’m a runner. Huh. What do you know about that.”

Like you, I’ve been sidelined from running for over a month now due to a tear in my achilles tendon. Luckily, it’s minor, though they never heal completely. I’ve been in a bot cast for a month and today was the day I had my appointment to re evaluate it and I was cleared to take that darn boot off! As a runner, hearing those words “ease back into running” might as well have been the green light to RUN OUT THAT DOOR! It’s killed me just seeing people running on the streets, so today, I took to the treadmill and ran a whole 1.8 miles, jogger style, a lot slower than normal but just being able to RUN meant the world to me! Now all I need are some new Mizuno kicks!

I have a half marathon coming up in August and guess what?! I have an IT band injury! I’m pretty sure it is due to improper footwear. Soooo, off to the running center I go, in search of shoes that are intended for ME and me alone. In the meantime, I feel incomplete just resting, stretching, foamrolling and icing. So if I don’t get to run the race? It’s okay….I have to keep reminding myself….there WILL be a next time. Yes, running completes me. 🙂

My “moment” comes every May when I run on a relay team for the Key 100 race. We run from Key Largo to Key West Florida and the segment I run during sunset hours gets me every time. There’s just something about running along on the road, completely alone, and watching the sun slowly sink into the water. It’s hot and your tired, hungry, sweaty, and so ready to be done. But for that one segment it’s as if time stands still and there’s nothing else in the world but you, that scene, and the sound of your feet pounding the pavement.

    Tracy says:

My Mezamashii moment happened last year during the Ragnar Relay NWP. I was running as part of an Ultra team and started experiencing some pain in my right ankle at the end of my 2nd leg (2 of 6). I got a quick massage, used some relief gel and kept on trucking. By leg 5, I was in some serious pain and probably should have stopped (I had a really bad case of Achilles tendinitis). But as an Ultra team, there was no one else that could take on my legs and finish for me. I found out just how tough I was that day. I finished all of my legs and in pretty decent time. I am proud of myself for not giving up and seeing what I was made of. I am still in awe that I ran that relay – I know a lot of experienced runners that have never run an ultra, and I’m proud to say that I have. And I’m doing it again in 18 days!! Pray for healthy legs!

  369. 369

this entire post resonates with me! running is such a special thing to me because it is my ME time. at one point this past year, between life obligations and injuries, it somehow turned in to something that i didn’t feel like i was enjoying – it just felt like another thing i had to do. i ended up doing it less and less and then got to a point where i was angry at myself for not doing it. so now, instead of focusing on a PR, i’m focusing on doing it because i love it. you’re right there are ups and downs, and every step is a gift. 🙂
