It’s Friday! Woot woot!
So let’s see, I’ll let you guess what I made for dinner last night when I got home from teaching classes at the gym.
I didn’t love them. I like ground turkey better. But I doctored them up real nice.
I meant to write a post last night while I sat down for dinner, but I got a little distracted.
I haven’t watched any of the new episodes of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Um, and what the heck happened to Gretchen’s lips?
I got distracted by this little gem too.
So this morning I got to run. It was my second double digit run since the whole injury thing. I thought I’d do it today since I already had to be out of the house to teach a class at 6 am. It felt a little like a race morning getting everything all ready and leaving the house at dawn. He he.
With my Runner’s World Challenge training plan I was supposed to do a long run of 14 miles this Sunday. I have to change up the days a bit with my teaching schedule and you know, other life stuff like scheduling long runs when Andrew is home, etc. Since I’m still modifying the plan a little with help from their injury prevention experts, I thought I’d try 12 or so slow miles.
I only thought about quitting and making it a short run about 10 times during the first 5 minutes. Seriously.
But, I stuck with it. I had to talk myself into it a bit, but figured I was dressed, all geared up, had quite a few Jillian Michaels podcasts to catch up on and was already on my way. It would be silly to quit and try to do it another day.
Not to mention I already broke the gym rules by eating and taking a picture in the locker room so I couldn’t go back for a bit.
I had a nice path to take. pretty hilly, but one that I have run many times (both with and without the double stroller).
My GPS wasn’t working for the first half mile or so. So weird. My phone GPS says I ran 12.2 miles.
(Note- Full review of this Polar RC3 GPS coming soon.)
Pretty slow pace of about a 10:40 average with all the stoplights, etc.
Within 30 seconds of being in the car after finishing my run this cashew cookie Larabar was gone.
I mentioned that I listened to a Jillian Michaels podcast. I love her podcast and have talked about them on here before.
The ones today talked about a few things that made me think. One was about how she was interviewing contestants for The Biggest Loser and this one guy wanted to be the winner so he could propose to his girlfriend and be the hometown hero, etc.
She called him out on the fact that he only thought those things could happen if he was the winner. All of his visions revolved around him being the winner. He was only focused on the end result and how things would be if he got there.
That’s not what the show is about. Or what life’s about.
It’s about the journey.
It’s not always the end result, it’s about the steps we take each and every day to get there. The small changes and all the choices we make to be a better person, inspire others and be healthier.
You don’t have to be the “winner” to be a ”hero”.
You could be someone’s hero tomorrow. You could be someone’s hero right now. Right?
One more deep thought while I’m at it.
Jillian also had a caller who was frustrated because she let herself slip and gain 20 pounds over and over again.
That happens. To a lot of us. You can’t get mad at yourself about it. You have to realize if you have an issue with weight or food, you’re probably always going to have it, just like an alcoholic is always an alcoholic.
You may not overcome all your issues in your life, but you CAN manage them and deal with them the best way you know how.
You have to face those challenges and know that we all have different ones. You have to keep fighting because one day, after many stumbles and falls, everything will come together and you can look back and know that the fight, the long fight, will all be worth it.
Okay, enough deep podcast thoughts. My brain hurts.
Had another prolotherapy appointment today after my run. I thought I’d have enough time to shower at the gym before I went. I did not.
I thought I had a couple Action Wipes in my bag to try to clean myself up a bit on the way. I did not.
I thought I smelled a bit like a mix of basil, garlic and sweat. I did.
I’m sure my doctor loves me. LOL.
The prodding today was a bit more painful than normal and I’m blaming it on the fact that I looked at the size of the needle last time and he assured me it goes all the way in. I was just envisioning that the whole time. Ugh.
So after I left there instead of going straight home to shower I made a little detour. If you follow on instagram you already saw this.
Oh yes, a few of you have told me about this magical place. I’ve been wanting to go and had a list from reader/friend Kerri of things I needed to get there.
Well, I forgot the list of course, but I think I got my bases covered.
The store was magical.
The magical store of any spice you could think of.
I took just a few pictures before I got too overwhelmed and my hands were full.
They had 4 different kinds of cinnamon (I got only 2). This one is awesome.
I also got some different pumpkin pie spices and such for my sweetener free roasted kabocha.
They also had a bunch of different extracts. I picked up a few- almond and vanilla.
Oh and hey, that’s where my freak flag really came out. Asking someone to take a picture of my sweaty mug in the spice store with my almond extract. And yes, I did in fact still have a Halo Visor line on my forehead. Lovely.
After the extracts I hit up all the other areas and asked for the spiciest stuff of course.
I don’t know what happened next. The rest of the experience was a bit of a blur.
Had some romaine wraps to hold me over once I got home while this combination was roasting in the oven.
(“Becky, look at her
butt kabocha boat.” What song is that from?)
This kabocha boat was one of the best ever.
I think it was a combination of the long run, finally getting a better kabocha (it’s all about the ring friends) and these magnificent spices from Penzys.
And, well, this was the best sight ever to come home to.
STUFT Daddy officially starts another staycation today! Yay!
We’re celebrating tonight with a date night complete with my favorite wine and pizza. I can’t wait!
Here’s a couple quotes to leave you with from Runner’s World.
I know I owe you a complete post on the awesomeness of the Runner’s World Challenge. I am seriously amazed by all the great things that come as a member (including an online training program that I’m trying to be good about keeping up).
But, for now, you get these quotes from the free daily quotes email. I thought they went well with my deep thoughts above.
Have a wonderful weekend!
What podcasts do you listen to if any?
Have any deep thoughts to share?
Have you ever been to Penzys?
