Deep Podcast Thoughts, Prodding and Penzys

Oh hello!

It’s Friday! Woot woot!

So let’s see, I’ll let you guess what I made for dinner last night when I got home from teaching classes at the gym.

Ha ha. Yeah, jealous of the size of my zucchini? I made some meatza pizzas with this bison meat that I found at Costco recently to go with my zucchini pizzas.

IMG_5606.JPG (2) - Copy

I didn’t love them. I like ground turkey better. But I doctored them up real nice.

I meant to write a post last night while I sat down for dinner, but I got a little distracted.

I haven’t watched any of the new episodes of The Real Housewives of Orange County. Um, and what the heck happened to Gretchen’s lips?

I got distracted by this little gem too.

Chilled cinnamon roasted sweet potatoes with almond butter, peanut free NuttZo, this coconut butter and unsweetened dark chocolate sauce.

So this morning I got to run. It was my second double digit run since the whole injury thing. I thought I’d do it today since I already had to be out of the house to teach a class at 6 am. It felt a little like a race morning getting everything all ready and leaving the house at dawn. He he.

With my Runner’s World Challenge training plan I was supposed to do a long run of 14 miles this Sunday. I have to change up the days a bit with my teaching schedule and you know, other life stuff like scheduling long runs when Andrew is home, etc. Since I’m still modifying the plan a little with help from their injury prevention experts, I thought I’d try 12 or so slow miles.

I only thought about quitting and making it a short run about 10 times during the first 5 minutes. Seriously.

But, I stuck with it. I had to talk myself into it a bit, but figured I was dressed, all geared up, had quite a few Jillian Michaels podcasts to catch up on and was already on my way. It would be silly to quit and try to do it another day.

Not to mention I already broke the gym rules by eating and taking a picture in the locker room so I couldn’t go back for a bit.

IMG_5613.JPG (2)

I had a nice path to take. pretty hilly, but one that I have run many times (both with and without the double stroller).

My GPS wasn’t working for the first half mile or so. So weird. My phone GPS says I ran 12.2 miles.

IMG_5622.JPG (2) - Copy

(Note- Full review of this Polar RC3 GPS coming soon.)

Pretty slow pace of about a 10:40 average with all the stoplights, etc.

Within 30 seconds of being in the car after finishing my run this cashew cookie Larabar was gone.

I mentioned that I listened to a Jillian Michaels podcast. I love her podcast and have talked about them on here before.

The ones today talked about a few things that made me think. One was about how she was interviewing contestants for The Biggest Loser and this one guy wanted to be the winner so he could propose to his girlfriend and be the hometown hero, etc.

She called him out on the fact that he only thought those things could happen if he was the winner. All of his visions revolved around him being the winner. He was only focused on the end result and how things would be if he got there.

That’s not what the show is about. Or what life’s about.

It’s about the journey.

It’s not always the end result, it’s about the steps we take each and every day to get there. The small changes and all the choices we make to be a better person, inspire others and be healthier.

You don’t have to be the “winner” to be a ”hero”.

You could be someone’s hero tomorrow. You could be someone’s hero right now. Right?

One more deep thought while I’m at it.

Jillian also had a caller who was frustrated because she let herself slip and gain 20 pounds over and over again.

That happens. To a lot of us. You can’t get mad at yourself about it. You have to realize if you have an issue with weight or food, you’re probably always going to have it, just like an alcoholic is always an alcoholic.

You may not overcome all your issues in your life, but you CAN manage them and deal with them the best way you know how.

You have to face those challenges and know that we all have different ones. You have to keep fighting because one day, after many stumbles and falls, everything will come together and you can look back and know that the fight, the long fight, will all be worth it.

Okay, enough deep podcast thoughts. My brain hurts.

Moving on.

Had another prolotherapy appointment today after my run. I thought I’d have enough time to shower at the gym before I went. I did not.

I thought I had a couple Action Wipes in my bag to try to clean myself up a bit on the way. I did not.

I thought I smelled a bit like a mix of basil, garlic and sweat. I did.

I’m sure my doctor loves me. LOL.

The prodding today was a bit more painful than normal and I’m blaming it on the fact that I looked at the size of the needle last time and he assured me it goes all the way in. I was just envisioning that the whole time. Ugh.

So after I left there instead of going straight home to shower I made a little detour. If you follow on instagram you already saw this.

Oh yes, a few of you have told me about this magical place. I’ve been wanting to go and had a list from reader/friend Kerri of things I needed to get there.

Well, I forgot the list of course, but I think I got my bases covered.

The store was magical.

The magical store of any spice you could think of.

Obviously I flew my freak flag high (like I always do). Last week it was flown at Kennedy’s Karne, this week it was Penzys. Just making my rounds you know.

I took just a few pictures before I got too overwhelmed and my hands were full.

They had 4 different kinds of cinnamon (I got only 2). This one is awesome.

IMG_5631.JPG (2)

I also got some different pumpkin pie spices and such for my sweetener free roasted kabocha.

IMG_5634.JPG (2)

They also had a bunch of different extracts. I picked up a few- almond and vanilla.

Oh and hey, that’s where my freak flag really came out. Asking someone to take a picture of my sweaty mug in the spice store with my almond extract. And yes, I did in fact still have a Halo Visor line on my forehead. Lovely.

IMG_5632.JPG (2)

After the extracts I hit up all the other areas and asked for the spiciest stuff of course.

I don’t know what happened next. The rest of the experience was a bit of a blur.

IMG_5636.JPG (2)

Had some romaine wraps to hold me over once I got home while this combination was roasting in the oven.

(“Becky, look at her butt kabocha boat.” What song is that from?)

This kabocha boat was one of the best ever.

I think it was a combination of the long run, finally getting a better kabocha (it’s all about the ring friends) and these magnificent spices from Penzys.

And, well, this was the best sight ever to come home to.

STUFT Daddy officially starts another staycation today! Yay!

My last start of a staycation post talked egg whites, Pro Compression socks and kabocha. That’s weird, isn’t it?

We’re celebrating tonight with a date night complete with my favorite wine and pizza. I can’t wait!

Time out.

You HAVE to see this old blog post. I am seriously laughing out loud right now at the video. I forgot I made a video of Kitty and I for Flat Kitty Friday awhile back.

Here’s a couple quotes to leave you with from Runner’s World.

I know I owe you a complete post on the awesomeness of the Runner’s World Challenge. I am seriously amazed by all the great things that come as a member (including an online training program that I’m trying to be good about keeping up).

But, for now, you get these quotes from the free daily quotes email. I thought they went well with my deep thoughts above.

Have a wonderful weekend!

What podcasts do you listen to if any?

OMG that meat brand brings back so many memories! I remember when I was in boarding school ten years ago, I would make bison and egg scrambles! I would literally eat the entire pound and then eggs too! SOOOO GOOD ah ha ah!

I ran 10 miles today. This is the 3rd time in my life I ran that far. It’s my limit. Ate the whole kitchen when I got home. Going to check out the RUnner’s World Challenge- maybe it’ll help me. I listen to Vernon Mcgee thru the bible every day….

    Erica says:

So glad the long runs are going well! I just added my half marathon training to my calendar yesterday! Its tough to fit longer runs in when you teach classes- right? I’ll have to listen to Jillian’s podcast. Great thoughts. Have a good weekend

Yes, Erica, it’s totally tough. The plan I have is easy to follow though and I can switch up the days a bit. The Runner’s World Challenge is such a great one for me! Finally found one that works and everyone is so helpful. Hope your training is going well!

    Rhonda says:

I heard that podcast- I was sort of annoyed. Because while I agree that weight loss shouldn’t be about winning, the Biggest Loser TV show certainly approaches it that way. I think it sort of invites that particular attitude.
Congratulations on getting back to double digits… hope you continue to heal well! :)

      STUFT Mama says:

You’re right, the show does approach it that way. I didn’t think about it like that. They are inticing them with quite a bit of money. Ha ha.

Hope you had a good weekend Rhonda!!!

I love the way you write – like you are living & not writing! :)

YES to this: It’s not always the end result, it’s about the steps we take each and every day to get there. The small changes and all the choices we make to be a better person, inspire others and be healthier.
You don’t have to be the “winner” to be a ”hero”.

JEALOUS of your spice store!!!! Can’t find pumpkin pie spice here except during the season..

    Ummmmmmmmmmm, that zucchini! ;)

    Joy says:

I CANNOT ever, no, not ever, look at a needle that is going into me. I almost passed out at the doctor’s office once when they were trying to get blood from me. I always have to look away. I don’t know what it is about those needles, but UGH! Sorry your prodding was more painful this time.

When I saw your instagram photo of the Penzys spice store I was immediately envious! I’ve heard wonderful things about their spices.

I’m going to sign up for those daily quotes. Thanks for the link!!

The only podcast I listen to is Marc Maron’s WTF. I love to laugh and he started out interviewing just comedians, but now he’s onto musicians and actors and such, but it’s mostly about comedians. I laugh and I learn and it’s nice to hear about other peoples struggles and how they got through them.

I listened to that podcast the other day and had pretty much the exact same thoughts. I can always count on Jillian for a little though provoking during a workout. I seriously need to magically find myself in that spices store so I can recreate your kabocha bowl of heaven with something other than my boring 10 lb container of cinnamon…
