All Good Things Must Come to an End, the STUFT Staycation and Another Fiesta

Right? Well, maybe not, like laundry. That is one thing that never ends, but then again, I’m not sure I’d put that in the “good things” category.

It’s back to reality today. STUFT Daddy went back to work, I got to lay in bed and listen to his alarm going off across the room at 5:30 am the entire time he was in the shower. That was fun.

I also just got to explain to Judah that Daddy wasn’t here because he had to go back to work today. That was fun too. Ugh. We already miss him.

Andrew and I were chatting last night about how we really didn’t get any of our big projects done that we wanted to do while he was off, but we DID do a lot of other fun things and made enjoying family time top priority.

Time is love. (That’s our new thing around here you know.)

Smile

Something else that should really come to an end is my lengthy posts on here. I need to work on that. But first, here’s a few highlights from our staycation this past week that didn’t make it on the blog.

We went swimming at a brand new pool.

IMG_5679IMG_5682

Actually it wasn’t brand new, it was at the Y where I’ve worked for 15 years, but it was the first time I took the boys. Bad mama.

IMG_5683IMG_5684

There’s something about just watching your kids play, right? It makes me smile like no other. And, in case you’re wondering, that is Joaquin’s new “poop dance” he does frequently. Lovely.

Speaking of swimming, the boys had their last swim lesson with their teacher. I got all choked up. I’m not good with change, like really not good at it.

IMG_5884

Do you think he had his hands full? Ha.

We made some puppets that I’m sure will stay in one piece for at least another day or so. Not.

IMG_5989

Someone taught Kitty how to pass the peace. “Peace be with you Kitty.”

IMG_5996

That was funny. Kitty sure could use some peace and some cat sized Spanx. Ha ha.

We got to have breakfast with my very bestest friend and her hubby that were in town from Texas. No pictures allowed though. And, just a little advice, if you really want to have time to catch up with good friends and talk, it’s not the best idea to bring your toddlers along. Oops.

Also not the best idea to talk the hubby and the toddlers to walk around a crowded Farmer’s Market afterwards.

IMG_6010

They ditched me pretty quick and left me without any money. Smart move on their part. Someone on instagram pointed out that they pulled a “ninja” on me. Funny stuff.

All by my lonesome I only had time and money for a couple of things.

IMG_6012

Flavored salt from the Salt Farm.

I got Ghost Pepper (obviously) and Black Truffle.

IMG_6013

They talked me into the black truffle one since I’ve never had it. Hey, looks like a got a pretty mean looking arm vein tossed in there free of charge.

My real find were these ginormous carrots.

IMG_6015

I was that girl who was counting coins to try to dig up the money for these beauties.

IMG_6014

I mean, that huge white carrot had my name all over it.

IMG_6021

And, since we decided the only proper way to end our staycation was to have a little fiesta with the family I made not one, but two trips to our favorite Kennedy’s Karne store in less than 24 hours.

IMG_5970

Speaking of our little local Kennedy’s Karne, they recently were presented certificates for outstanding customer service from Assemblywoman Marie Waldron’s office. Here are some pictures they sent me. I’m so proud of our little local spot.

And they sure proved their excellent customer service the other day when I made the whole family accompany me to the store.

IMG_9953

Don’t be fooled by the picture, we were a mess there. Two toddler tantrums, using their facilities, messing with many cans of beans….. the list goes on and on. I will be going there by myself from now on, but seriously, everyone there goes above and beyond. Thank you Mark!

IMG_9951

I got some better pictures of all the goodness there for you. The whole meat store thing is new to me, so I get excited about it.

IMG_9943IMG_9942

So many options.

IMG_9938IMG_9939IMG_9941IMG_9944IMG_9945IMG_9946IMG_9947IMG_9948IMG_9955

There was a long line for the cooked to order meals prepared by right no the spot by Alfred. I might have to try that next time.

IMG_9949

We went for a little bit of everything for our family fiesta: habanero chicken, habanero carne asada, chipotle carne asada and orange carne asada.

Instead of making a mess at our house we took the party to Papaps and Grandmas. Aren’t we nice?

A few quick snapshots of the fiesta.

My bro made some skinny margaritas.

IMG_9970

Mom said please no pictures. I listen well.

IMG_9984

I also made sure we had enough different salsa options and such. Ha ha.

IMG_9973IMG_9980IMG_9983

That huge carrot from the Famer’s Market was perfect for a little salsa and guacamole dipping action.

IMG_9986IMG_9988

I dipped, the men barbequed.

IMG_9989IMG_9991

There were quite a few comments being made about my plate. Not sure if it was the massive size or the amount of serrano and habanero peppers, but I didn’t let any comments bother me.

IMG_9997

Oh, jicama with a little Slap Ya Mama is good for dipping too.

IMG_9998

And whelp, that’s it. The staycation and the fiesta are over.

Time to get back into the swing of things.

Wait a minute, is it August?

LOL. I better get my act together.

See ya later with running chat. I have some race updates and a run scheduled for today with my Runner’s World Challenge training plan I’m a little nervous about tackling.

Enough about me. Gheesh.

How’s your weekend?

Anyone go to a Farmer’s Market or have a fiesta?

What do you do on a family “staycation”?

What the heck am I supposed to do with black truffle salt?

    That sounds fun!
Random question, but you have so many different shoes and I can’t keep up! I’m wondering, which shoe do you wear for what activity? Long run? Easy run? race? Gym? etc.
I’m wanting to pick up a new pair of Mizunos, but am really picky with my shoes so I’m not sure which pair to get!

Too bad the staycation has come to an end. That is always the saddest feeling. I will be experiencing that in a few short weeks when summer is over….and this teacher has to head back to school! Boo. I love the farmer’s market. The closest one is about a 1/2 hour away, but I go as often as I can. I do have a pretty big garden myself, but I love getting organic meats & veggies & berries. Oh, and not to mention fresh baked goodies and they also have a new ice cream vendor. Yummmmm.
The weekend was a fun one….did my first Color me Rad run. It was such a fun time. I wish 3 miles always went by that quickly!! It was great running with a bunch of friends for once, and I always love running at that location. Good times.

I haven’t tried black truffle salt, but I use ghost pepper salt on my salad every night. The ghost pepper salt I have is quite hot, how do you like the one you bought? I love those spicy carrots, I remember eating the spicy carrots/peppers from the burrito shops in SLO.

I have never had a proper Staycation! I am hoping to try that over the holidays this year since I now have a sweet bambino who is worth taking off for!

Glad you had a great time!
