Dreams Come True- STUFT Mezamashii News and a Mizuno Wave Sayonara GIVEAWAY

Dreams Come True- STUFT Mezamashii News and a Mizuno Wave Sayonara GIVEAWAY

I really feel like just rambling about life like I usually do, but haven’t really gotten the chance to this week.

Don’t worry. I won’t for two very important reasons.

1. I haven’t started packing for the MCM marathon yet and yes, I do leave in about 12 hours.

2. I promised a huge announcement and giveaway so I better keep my promises for a change.

Just really quickly I have a few things from the day today because I just can’t help myself.

I got my last little easy run in this morning. 4.8 miles at a pretty darn slow pace.

2013-10-24 10.35.47

(instagram– @stuftmama)

I dressed up in full Mizuno gear because, well, that’s what I do and because that’s what this giveaway is all about.

After my run I took it upon myself to start carbing up a couple days earlier than I really need to.

Sweetener free roasted kabocha friends. I missed it while I was gone.

The boys got to paint pumpkins at preschool today.

2013-10-24 12.43.07

Don’t they look thrilled? Wait, maybe it was just a bad picture.

2013-10-24 12.43.01

Whelp, nope. I guess not.

Ha ha.

And I’m fairly certain my turkey burger meatza pizza I had for dinner (along with quite a few other things) was the cutest thing ever.

Okay, so I could really go on forever about how wonderful Mizuno is and how I want each and every one of you to find your Mezamashii and take that first step and fall in love with Mizuno shoes and with running.

I’ll make this short and sweet.

Big news first.

This whole Mizuno Marathon Mezamashii Week thing that we’re in the midst of at the moment, well, it looks like it’s going to be extended just a bit.

We’ve got another HUGE trip to take.

Yes I said WE.

Yes I said HUGE.

The STUFT family is taking on WALT DISNEY WORLD!

I know. I’m still in shock a bit.

We’re headed to Orlando with FitFluential and Mizuno for the Disney Wine and Dine Half Marathon.

How amazing is that?

I’m not the only one racing there either, the boys are registered for one of the kid’s races. I can’t wait.

More on that and all the details as it gets closer, but I just had to share.

I’ve never done a Disney race before either so those of you that have will have to give me all the inside info. I just need to get through this weekend first.

Deep thoughts:

So here’s the thing.

If you have a dream, it’s yours and no one can take it away from you. Believe it, be passionate about it and for goodness sake step out of your comfort zone, put yourself out there and see what you can do.

Worst thing that can happen?

You don’t succeed the first time. Join the club.

I’ve failed a bazillion times with a million different things and I’m sure I’m not done failing. I refuse to let it stop me though.

I’m a Mizuno ambassador.

I’m so proud to say that, but not sure if I truly deserve it.

Or the big box of some awesome new fall running gear that just happen to get here just in time for the marathon this weekend.

I’m definitely not fast. I’m definitely not normal. I’m definitely not young. I’m definitely a bit of a basket case trying to do everything I do with toddler twins.

I haven’t run 30 marathons. I’ve run 6.

Heck, I was even sidelined for a good 5 months with my injury and hip dysplasia.

And you know what?

Mizuno stood behind me the entire time.

Sure, all I could do was log a bunch of hours on the dreaded stair mill or the elliptical for months in my shoes that were supposed to be running outside.

Sure, quite a few professionals and doctors told me that I should look into trying another sport and that maybe I wasn’t meant to be a runner.

Sure, Mom has told me more than once I should stop running so I have more time to clean the house and get chores done.

The list goes on and on really…….

But, I’ve experienced that Mezamashii. And I’m telling you, once you experience it, there’s no going back.

That’s what sets Mizuno apart from the rest.

They want runners to love running and love the experience. It doesn’t matter how fast or slow, how long or short, it just matters that you get out there and do it and find it.

By some miracle, I found it.

And now, we’ve been given some pretty darn amazing opportunities.

Like the Hat Trick last weekend at the Runner’s World Half Marathon and Festival.

Like the upcoming Disney trip.

Like tomorrow, when I head to the MCM Marathon with the Runner’s World Challenge (which also deserves a post all on it’s own for the awesomeness of the program and the MCM training plan).

I would have never thought I would get to do these things.

It was just some crazy, wild dreams I had and continue to have.

They’re coming true.

Dang, running has given me a lot in life.

I used to say that running was just my therapy. It still is, but I guess the “therapy” is really paying off.

And, well, if it gets taken away from me tomorrow, I just want to know that I did everything I could with it. That I used my gift of running to the fullest.

Does that make sense?

And, I want to make sure you do everything you can too. You have gifts. You need to use them, yes?

So time to “Wave Sayonara” to being comfortable and say hello to believing in your wildest dreams.

You can totally make them come true.

Time for a little Mizuno STUFT Mezamashii GIVEAWAY:

Okay, I’m off to bed so I can pack in the morning. It’s going to be cold in DC, yes? Dang, I have no idea what to bring to race in. Beavis.

I do know that I’m taking my Flat Bart with me though.

I’ll leave you with this little “Kick in the Butt” from Runner’s World.

Never settle.

I am so stinking excited for you!!!! Next London. (Keep repeating that to yourself… or I can just contact Mizuno on your behalf and beg). Okay, a couple of running dreams. 1. That I would actually start again. No rhythm here yet. 2. To run in ANY race here (I just think that would be fun). 3. To start running with hubby and/or family. We’ve talked about it and have to get past the weather but I want my kids to grow up loving to move. And seeing us do that is what is going to inspire them. 🙂

My favorite race I have run in the 2013 Chicago Marathon. Not only was it my first marathon…EVER…but half the time I forgot I was even running. It was a brilliant race and I did so much better than I even anticipated on my time. I wasn’t running for time on this one. It was my first marathon. I wanted to enjoy it.

My dream is to go and run the Boston Marathon. I qualified at Chicago by 7 full minutes…so 2015 I am registering. But, I would also love to run the Great Wall Marathon. It looks challenging…but fun. And hey…it’s China!

My goals/dreams…to be able to continue to enjoy running for the rest of my life.

    Cassie says:

My favorite race I have ever run was my recent first half marathon- the Surftown Half in Westerly, RI. I ran my first half in under two hours and have never been more proud of myself!

    Erin Flanagan says:

I read this on the treadmill and you just gave me that boost to up the speed and fight through my Friday tired brain! I would have to say, though any race would be amazing (I have a goal of 50 races in 50 states but due to the lack of funds it seems like this goal will take centuries to achieve), I think my ideal/dream race would be the Marine Corps Marathon. After my cousin deployed for his second tour to Iraq and dealing with all those emotions and fearing for his saftey over there, I really began to be a lot more emotionally invested in our troops. It is easy to forget about those who sacrifice so much for our country and I think the MCM would be such an awesome way to show just a morsel if my immense gratitude for them. Yah running a race jn Hawaii would be unbelievable but I think the MCM would be so much more gratifying.

  36. 36
    Erin Flanagan says:

Forgot to add- my favorite race, that I am doing, will be the Victoria Soto 5k which is in my home state of CT and is raising money for Vicky’s charity and celebrating/remembering just one of the lives lost in Sandy Hook on that horrific day.

    Brandt Michaels says:

So far my favorite race was the Bird In Hand Half Marathon. 13.1 miles through the heart of Amish Country with both hot air balloons and the sun rising just before the race start. Water stations staffed by Amish children, and buggies as the lead/follow vehicles. It’s truly a destination race, and thankfully I live only 30 minutes away! Next race I really want to do is the San Diego Safari Park half, since I grew up about 15 mins from there and spent many a summer day at the park. Running goals? Nail a sub 2:00 half. When/if I get there, I might set my sights on a full marathon. But first I need to “wave sayonara” to a few more PRs!

    Amy J says:

My favorite race is the Detroit Free Press Marathon. You run over the bridge to Canada, then back to the U.S. through the underwater tunnel. It is an amazing race! Great people, great music. 42. 42

I love to run half marathons, but have not found the courage to train for a marathon quite yet. Any marathon at this point is a race that I want to run. It could be close to home or as awesome as the Disney marathon. Doesn’t matter to me, I just want to accomplish that goal for myself.

That was truly a Mezamashii experience because I’ve been fighting so stay healthy, get stronger and not let my mind tell me I can’t do it. Richmond half marathon November 2012 14 weeks after the birth of my first child. I had this naive idea that I could just jump right back into running and racing right after childbirth so I was totally undertrained, but I really wanted to do it, my wonderful husband totally supported me, and seeing him at the finish line with the baby strapped on him in the baby carrier is just one of my most favorite memories.

  90. 90

This post makes me smile. I’m so happy for you. I love love that you follow your dreams! I guess my favorite race wasn’t even my best. It was my worst time actually. But it was the first time I ran a half with Jason (his first half). We crossed the finish together. I hadn’t run in 6 wks due to injuries. So just crossing was a big enough deal, but to cross the finish with him? That made it all worth the pain.

Those shoes are a beauty! I love Mizuno!! I don’t really have a particular race in mind, but I would really love to run a half marathon. With all my injuries here and there, there have been so many races that I have signed up for that I have had to miss. It’s almost like a jinx myself every time I sign up! But, you continue to inspire me everyday and I thank you for that!! Good luck this weekend!! 🙂

Before I get to contest stuff: I have so enjoyed reading about you, SkinnyRunner and HungryRunnerGirl’s recaps of the RWHalf weekend. What fun!

My favorite race: probably the half-marathon I just finished (although if you had of asked me at mile 11, I would have smacked ya). Had a hard time myself (very hilly course), but brought 3 friends with me who had never done a half and they all finished and were so excited to put their 13.1 stickers on their cars, so I felt like I was a little part of that success for them.

Races I want to run: Chattanooga 4 Bridges Half Marathon; Runners World Half Marathon (not sure I could pull off the hat trick though).

Goal: possibly a full…I am thinking I want to try and do one before I am 50, so I have 5 years to think about it – maybe I can plan a big one for that. Other goals – doing another half in the next 6 months, just got to pick which one – I want to beat my time!

My favorite race was probably the tiniest little hometown half marathon I ran in 2012. The Ryan’s House Run in Scottsdale, AZ. It was challenging and well organized but only about 600 runners. I loved not feeling overwhelmed in the crowd. On the completely opposite end of the spectrum though, I would love to run a race a NYC!

One of the best races I have ever run was the Boilermaker 15K in upstate NY many years ago….before kids, before a “real” job, when I could run 3x a day as I just had all the time in the world. I vividly recall running those 9+ miles all out with tons of people (it is the largest 15k in the country) and flying down the final hill into the finishing shoot feeling great and then experiencing the best post race party ever!! (think keg trucks every where with micro brew for all!) On the horizon I have my 1st full IM in Chattanooga TN in September and my dream race will be KONA in a few years! Big Dreams!

My favorite run will probably always be MCM. It’s an incredible race that I look forward to doing again sometime. I’ve worn Mizunos exclusively for the past year and had them off an on for several years prior. The Wave Sayonaras are a great training shoe and I wear the Wave Creation for my long runs.

  111. 111
    Ali says:

Oh my gosh I would love to experience this Mezamashii you speak of! You speak so highly of Mizuno that I want to Wave Sayonara to my Reeboks and have a try at running in their shoes.
I ran my first 5k in May of 2011, and 2 months later I ran the 13.1 MPLS and was absolutely hooked. It’s been my favorite run to this day. I felt like I was on top of the world during that run. I crossed the finish line and signed up for the next years event on the car ride home. Unfortunately they cancelled that race indefinitely. 🙁 So Sad. I’ve run a few different 5K’s, 7K’s, 10K’s and 1/2’s since then including Tough Mudder this year. That was a “shocking” experience.
I do dream to one day run a full marathon. Possibly one in the Rock n’ Roll series?
Wishing you the best of luck this weekend! OH and I Tweeted 🙂

This post made me so emotional! I am so happy for you right now! As someone who has been knocked down physically, it’s an amazingly overwhelming feeling when you can push past the hard times to really enjoy how amazing the human body is. I am just so happy for you. Agreed. Mizunos are amazing! I have finally put too many miles on my first pair. I am finally at the point where I am confident in my abilities to run a half and still feel good when I’m done. I haven’t actually done a half marathon race, but hitting 13 miles on a Saturday afternoon in my favorite park was one of the most amazing feelings ever. Dare I say that Tony and I are now training for a full marathon? I can’t even believe I just typed that. Who am I? 🙂 So, I guess I finally just said it out loud.

Take me with you to Disney! I want to run wine and dine with you! Some day my friend! xoxoxo

    Emmeline says:

That’s so exciting!! I haven’t found that brand that just *works* for me yet but I haven’t tried Mizuno yet so maybe they’re my running soul mate. Favorite race I’ve run: Philly 1/2 marathon. It was my first race and I felt SO GOOD the whole way. Race I’m excited for in the future: Amsterdam marathon! Future race goals: in the super giant picture, to compete at a U.S. championships but in my general future running, to really focus on pure enjoyment on at least 2 runs a week (I.e. don’t focus on watches or the be disappointed if I don’t feel fresh, just run and love it for what it is!)

  124. 124

I think my favorite race was the Rock n Roll Vegas last year. It was my first 1/2 marathon. I hadn’t trained for it (so dumb) and I didn’t do the greatest but I had 7 of my very best friends alongside me! We had the greatest weekend and we can’t wait to do it again next year! Disney would be my dream race and my two little ones would also be in tow for that one! We will make it happen soon :). Good luck with your marathon this weekend!

I’ve been “a runner” for about 3 years now, and it just never gets any easier. It’s much more of a mental battle for me than it ever is physical. My favorite race was the one I ran last weekend because I went into it without any pressure on myself – I decided that my goal for the race was to not watch my Garmin constantly, not go for a PR, but to just enjoy it – soak in my surroundings, smile at spectators, dance a little to my music, etc. and I had a blast!! It was such a great reminder about WHY I run!

  128. 128

Good Luck this weekend and HAVE FUN!
My favorite marathon was my first. I ran the Honolulu Marathon in 2002 and finished in 5:55:07! I knew nothing about running, being active, or what I was getting myself into. It was amazing on so many levels and hard as hell! I have learned so much about running and myself since then. 8 marathons later, I’m HOOKED!

    Kenzie says:

My favorite race was my first ever half marathon (Canby Dahlia run 2013). I placed first in the 20-29 females division and second overall for females! Training for it was one of the most challenging things I’ve done. Completing a half marathon was on my bucket list for three years; I’d sign up for one only to get tendonitis or a stress fracture any time I ran over ten miles. Successfully getting to this race helped me learn to listen to my body.

That race was life-changing though. All the days I drug myself outside for a training run I didn’t feel like getting in were worth busting my butt on race day! It lit a fire in me, and I ran a 1:34:20 race. I signed up for the full SLO City marathon April 2014, and I can’t wait to get into training mode four months out!

I find inner peace when I run – I can forget about my graduate school woes and focus on how my body is working. It’s when I truly find a mind-body connection. I hope that running can continue to help me realize this 24/7 rather than just the hour or so 4-5x/week that I get it pounding the pavement.

My favorite race I’ve run so far was a local 5K I did in support of the Illinois Make a Wish Foundation in honor of one of my friend’s sons who had a wish granted earlier this year. 132. 132

My favorite run that I’ve done is a Hot Chocolate 15K in Seattle. They had us run across the Aurora bridge which gave us some wonderful views!

My favorite race is the Shamrock’n Half in Sacramento. It was my first half, and it took place just a few months after ny younger brother died from complications of a seizure. I was well trained, and ready physically (but maybe not emotionally). I finished in 2:22, and loved ((almost) every minute. Now that I’ve done four halfs, I think I might want to try a full.

My absolute favorite race that I run is the Atlanta Thanksgiving Day Half Marathon. I’ve run plenty of races, but this one tops my list every year, and this year I am particularly excited about running it! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. Why you may ask? Because it involves absolutely no stress of gifts and is all about blessing and family and spending time with the people I love most. This race is so fun because it was the first race I ever did, so many people participate, and I’m still home in time to enjoy the day and relax with my family after running my heart out that morning. This year, though, I’ve taken it a step further and chosen to run for something greater than myself by partering with Run Sixty Feet and the Sixty Feet organization to fundraise and help bring restoration to children in Uganda. I chose to be the team captain for the race this year, and yes fundraising has been a struggle, but so far the experience has been incredible! Such a wonderful organization! And that’s my favorite race, and I can’t wait for it to be even more incredible this year as it is also helping those precious children! Truly a Thanksgiving experience I believe.

    Jessica Drake says:

I’ve never ran a marathon (yet). I’ve actually had a few health problems myself that has kept me from doing much distance running for the past year or so. My current goals are to
    A. Get thru the next 7 months of being an incubator (yep, I’ve got a bun in the oven!) and
    B. Be the best mom and wife I can be while working a full time job and trying to get back on track with running.
I’m so excited for your family and this upcoming trip!!

My favorite race that I’ve ever competed in was a half marathon in Chicago in September. Since I graduated high school 6 years ago, I have run every single day….until I broke my ankle and had to have surgery in February of 2013. I got out of a cast at the beginning of April and started running/jogging again (slowly yet surely) in the end of May. I was determined to make a comeback so, I signed up for this race on the first weekend in September. All the dedication to training paid off- I PR’d by 5 minutes! My running goal is to keep on keepin’ on and just run to run at least 2 days out of the week!

Well up until this past weekend I would have said my favorite race was my first half marathon on Thanksgiving Day in Atlanta in 2011 but I think I may have a new one – the Runners World Half which I just ran on Sunday and I PR’ed! I grew up in Bethlehem and something about the energy of being back home for a race surrounded by my friends and family propelled me to my best race ever! I’ll never forget it now. Oh and I did actually see you and all the famous bloggers inside the building after the race but I was too scared to come say Hi! You all were just so pretty! Good luck to you this weekend 🙂

My favourite race I have ever run was the Prison Break race!! 5km and 15 obstacles along the way with prison guards trying to steal all 3 flags from you (like flag football). It was such an accomplishment! And a very tough race! Would love to win these shoes to wear at my next race 😀

  158. 158

Hmm, I have a lot of favorites for different reasons, but I will have to go with Surf City. It was my 1st race ever, in 2008, a 5K (a distance they don’t offer anymore) that sparked my love of racing. I went back the next year for my 1st (and only to date) full marathon, then have been back every year for the half. It’s on Superbowl Sunday so it’s fun to see people in their team apparel and know when I get home to whatever Superbowl festivities we are doing I can eat and drink all I care to guilt free 🙂

My favorite local race is our own Spa 10k here in Hot Springs, AR! Great course, great volunteers, and hot soup and cold beer at the end!

    2. I’m looking forward to running a 1/2 then eventually a full. I was training for thunder road Charlotte 1/2 but I have a pinched nerve in my back so i have to wait until the spring 🙁

My favorite race was the Corporate Cup half marathon early this year because it is my first and only race! Hopefully that will change soon because I’m now thinking about running the Biltmore marathon in Asheville. Thank you for your post today! I’ve been debating about whether or not to sign up for this marathon because I have been afraid to step out of my comfort zone, afraid I won’t be able to do it, but you’re right I’ll never know what is possible unless I try and what’s the worst that can happen? : ) Thank you for the encouragement! And for doing this awesome give away!!!

My biggest goal right now is to run a half marathon under 3 hours. I know that doesn’t seem like much since most people run a marathon in the time it takes me to do half. But my 1st half I did it in 3:25, I’ve gotten down to 3:06 in a year and am trying to get under 3 by the end of the year (my 1st attempt on Sunday).

My other goal, to do a half ironman. But don’t tell anyone. I think in 2015 that will be my goal. Also that year to run a marathon. (again my 1st was in 2005 – it was the hardest thing I ever did)

I’ve been looking in to Mizunos and about 99% sure they will be my next shoe purchase.

My favorite race I have run is the Dam to Dam (Iowa’s Distance Classic)! So many fun people and such a pretty course. The one race that I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to run is the Disney Princess Half Marathon, hopefully next year! And my main running goal right now is to get my half marathon time under 2 hours.

I am looking forward to running in the Disney 5K this February with my mom. I love running and I am so glad that I can share the experience with my mom and help her become healthier. Training for this upcoming run has strengthened my mom and my relationship, she’s definitely my best friend. While I love how running is therapeutic, and a great form of exercise, I am grateful that, and love that it had brought my family closer together. I cannot wait to run the 5K with my mom, as its not about how short the race is, but the memories I am sure we will create that my mother and I will never forget.

My favorite race would be my first ‘real’ 5k (not a fun color one or obstacle course). I had no clue what to expect and was scared out of my mind but I stood at that starting line knowing I was going to do my best and be happy with whatever the outcome. I placed 3rd in my age group! That was my #mezamashii moment. I have my first half-marathon coming up next month and am so so so excited! I’d love some sayonaras to run in!

I’ve only run 2 half marathons – but one 3 times and the other once. I’m currently training for my first full (Soldier Marathon, Nov. 9th . . .ran the half version last year). But I have to say my favorite of the two races I’ve participated in is the Athens GA Half-Marathon. One because it’s where I truly discovered my love and passion for runnings and two because it’s in my college town, Athens, GA that is home to the University of Georgia. A city that I love to death and nothing is better than finishing a race between the hedges in Sanford Stadium! I just ran the Athens Half last weekend, in my mother’s Mizuno Sayonara’s, and got my first huge PR.

Anyways, love the shoes so I’d be thrilled to have my own pair so I don’t have to share with my mom all the time!

I discovered you on instagram. you are a huge inspiration. I enjoy your photos. I started racing almost one year ago. I have ran 3 half marathons, numerous 5k’s, 10k’s and 15k’s thru out Seattle, WA. Every race holds a special place in my heart cause running for me is an accomplishment that I am proud of. I am hoping to run the Nike Womens series SF next year and the Big Sur 1/2 marathon. those are big on my list right now. I am also contemplating training for my first full marathon. (I am still deciding whether or not to stick with the 13.1 for a while longer and then do 26.2) to date I would say my favorite race was Seattle Rock n Roll. since it was my first and I felt great, had great support, and I knew I was in it for the long haul. I would love to run in Mizunos. I also, discovered Halo headband and pro compression socks cause of you. I purchased my first visor and I love it. :o).

I really got into distance running only a few years ago, but have done 4 half marathons and many other small races (5K, 10K, etc.). I’ve run in the Baltimore Running Festival 4 years in a row and I have to say this past year was by far the best experience. I get chills just thinking about it. I below to an organization called Athletes Serving Athletes which enables athletes with disabilities to be able to complete races just like you and me. I pushed a 13 year old boy, Terrence, who has cerebral palsy for 2 legs of the relay to help him complete his first Marathon. I could have been more blessed to have been able to share my gift and love for running with someone who is unable to have this ability. My goal for next year is to run the Baltimore FULL marathon with ASA and be able to have my family there to support me as I cross the finish line. Traveling to CA for work, I’d also love to be able to run a race on the west coast (in hopes of meeting the one and only STUFT mama)!!! You’re amazing and thanks for such an amazing blog. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your inspiration. I learn something new every day and I hope to be an ambassador one day and continue to share my love for living a healthy life 🙂 Good luck this weekend!!!!

What an awesome post. It almost brought a tear to my eye! I started running almost 3 years ago now, and I’m still slow as heck. I have ran 4 half marathons and countless 5ks. Someday, I want to run a full marathon, but I just don’t have the guts to do it yet. People like you make it look possible and it inspires me to keep reaching for that dream! My favorite race has been, by far, the Grandma’s Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in Duluth, MN. If you haven’t ran this race, you HAVE to get yourself there. The entire course runs along Lake Superior and the coordination of the entire race weekend is just unbelievable. If I convince myself to run that first full marathon, it will at Grandma’s.

My running goals are to continue running happy & healthy. I would also like to work on my speed to challenge myself 🙂 If I ever have the chance, I would love to run any of the Disney races – I will always be a disney lover & they seem like such a blast!

I love love running but my favorite race every I dont get to run in. I am a college student/runner/ part time PT aide but importantly I am also a race director for a road race in my town every Saturday after thanksgiving. It raises money for the Hearts for Hope foundation which was founded by my friends family because my friend has been battling her whole life with cystic fibrosis. Her sister also passed away from CF in 2010. This year will be the third year directing the race and its such a beautiful time because it makes everyone fight for a cause together and reflect and how lucky we are to have our health and be able to enjoy a run. (mansfieldraceforcure.org)

I also hope to run this years Boston Marathon for cystic fibrosis. Living only a 1/2 mile from Boylston street and being at the finish line last year made me more determined than ever to finish Boston for a cause and city I love and I would to do it all in a new pair of Wave Sayonara 🙂

My favorite race…The absolute fave is the most recent 2013 Chicago Marathon. It’s my fave because I PR’d, met an awesome group of running friends while training, and my mom ran it too (her first marathon!). This marathon was by far the most memorable.

My running goals…to speed up and qualify for Boston! My husband and I are hoping to start a family this year, and, to be honest, I was worried that this would disrupt my goal. After talking to the hubs, he helped me realize that qualifying for Boston after having a baby would be an even better goal/dream.

By the way, I will also be at Disney during the food and wine fest! I didn’t plan the vacation early enough to sign up for any of the races 🙁 but I’ll still be running the Boardwalk area every morning!

In the near future I am also running the San Antonio Rock N Roll Half Marathon. In the far future, I have bigger half marathon goals (time-wise) but I would also love to run a full marathon. One dream race of mine is the Houston Marathon (must qualify for) and the Woodlands Marathon. Those are the next big ones I am looking into! My favorite race so far was the Texas Independence Relay. I did a 200 mile relay race over a 48 hour period! It was so much fun and tiring but it also showed me how strong I was and how much endurance I had built up. I really loved that race!

Kristin! This is such a wonderful, passionate post. I love it! So moving. I’m so proud of you, and you’re such an inspiration. Thank you! I think my favorite run will be the Marble Run in Jasper, Georgia. (See http://www.georgiamarblefestival.com/5krun.htm) We used to run it every year in college. I loved it because it was a fast, fast course, and I’d always get my personal best of the year, and instead of medals, they give winners gorgeous marble slabs. I loved it! It is a 5 mile trail run; the second of three. I attempted the first one and had to walk up a couple hills which made me mad. So I have been doing hill work and come November 9 my goal is to run the whole 5 miles, hills and all. Wish me luck! My biggest dream/goal would be to run a half marathon at some exotic local. I’m dying to try these shoes – I’m working towards qualifying for Boston 2015 but have been sidetracked with an injury that will most likely be pushing that goal into 2014. My favorite race has to be my first 1/2 Marathon in Philadelphia in 2012.

I love the Sayonara and can not have enough pairs. I wore them this weekend for my second marathon which also happens to be my new favorite race. It was not my best (hitting the wall at mile 19) and run/walking (mostly walking) the final 5 miles, but I ran with my bestest friends and smiled the whole time. I might have sworn off marathons for awhile during it, but I am taking that back a couple days later. I would love to go sub-4 and maybe someday when I move up a couple age brackets I can BQ.

My favorite run is always THE ONE I JUST RAN! That happens to be the Honored Hero Run that I did with my favorite running buddies this past Sunday in Fort Worth, Texas. We aren’t young or extremely fast, but we still took 1st, 2nd & 3rd place trophies. Woot! Woot!

My favorite race that I’ve done is the Oklahoma City Memorial Half Marathon. It was my first half ever and the atmosphere, volunteers, course, weather, EVERYTHING was incredible. I was so impressed with how many aid stations and porta potties there were and the volunteers made it extra special. Running for all of those who had their lives taken from them in the Oklahoma City bombing was very humbling. And seeing all of the people who were actually running for the person or people they knew from the bombing was so heartwarming. Made me feel like I was really running for something.

All the cheering/signs/dogs gave me such a boost of energy and I have to say that it was probably one of the best days of my entire life. I didn’t even run with my headphones in, although they were looped around my neck, because it was so awesome to listen to everyone and really take in what was going on around me. It’s a feeling that I want to experience over and over and over again until my legs give out and I am unable to run anymore. My dreams/goals are to run countless marathons/half marathons/5k’s/10k’s/Whatever-k’s because the feeling I get from running is absolutely irreplaceable and it’s something I hope and pray that I can experience for the majority of my life. I really would like to go back to the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and do the full! I definitely want to experience that course again and obviously many others as well!!

And, regarding Mizuno, I’ve really noticed how much people like this brand. I am currently a Brooks person but have been questioning/thinking about Mizuno’s. I would LOVE to win a pair and test them out to see what all the fuss is about 😉

So far I’ve only run one half marathon, which was it Pittsburgh PA. I guess I’d have to say that is my favorite race because I never thought I would be able to do it and I beat by goal time by 2:00 min. It really is a great course with a ton of fans to cheer you on but those bridges are deceiving! They are much larger running over them than they are driving over them in a car! I’d love to run the race again next May, especially with these cool shoes!!

  288. 288
    Stacy says:

I have only ran a 5K so I really don’t have a favorite race…yet. My goal is to sign up for a half marathon in 2014. My goal would be to finish in under 2 hours. Well lets me realistic I would like to just finish. Finishing in those shores = bonus!!

To start of with, I have to say that I have been marathon-ing in the Wave Musha 5 all year and have absolutely been in love with it. I’m definitely a Mizuno fan as I have trained in the Wave Elixir 7 and 8 over there past year.
As any runner would, a Boston Qualifying time would be the gateway to one of the most iconic races around, the Boston Marathon. For acouple years now I have literally had dreams allot qualifying and later running it. this past weekend I ran the Baystate Marathon up in Massachusetts and made my time with a minute and 20 to spare (after missing my qualifying time by 43 seconds earlier this year). With that goal currently checked of, I keep another in sight. I would love to run the Western States 100. I ran my first 50 at the Vermont 50 this fall and have a couple more planned in the spring but 100 miles is still a ways off. Fingers crossed for good health and swift feet!

    Deb E says:

Well as long as we’re dreaming…I’ve always wanted to run a full marathon since I was a teenager, running cross country. Problem was, every time I upped my mileage, I’d get terrible stress fractures in my feet. Terrible as in crutches for weeks, so I’ve learned my lesson. A girl can dream though.

  291. 291

I’ve done a few mud races and they are so much fun!

  292. 292

My favorite race I’ve run was the Bay to Breakers 12k in San Francisco. So much fun! I have such a long list of all the races I want to do that I don’t think I’ll ever near completion!

    Kristen says:

My favorite race (so far) was the Tinkerbell Half Marathon in January 2012. This was the inaugural year and I really think it was the first time that I actually FELT like I was a runner and belonged there. Many times when I head out to races, because I am most definitely NOT the fastest runner (you are super speedy compared to my fast!) I oftentimes feel like I’m kind of faking it when I get in a race corral. I worry that everyone will figure out my secret that I’m not an athlete and am just a 40-something year old, chunky runner pretending for the heck of it. So when I did the Tink I had taken my training a lot more seriously and lined up feeling like I had the goods – I had the right shoes, the right clothes, the right training, the right fuel, and was ready to go!

But I definitely don’t plan on that race being my best for long as I am only planning on getting better and eventually doing my first marathon!

Wow, Kristin, this is such a great post! First of all, it’s so cool that the whole STUFT family is going to Disney! And even better that you’ll be running with the boys! You’re such a great role model to them and I know that will definitely pay off for their entire lives. I wish my parents had been more active and encouraged me to be more active. I also love everything you said about running and overcoming obstacles. Running might be an inconvenience to other people every now and then, but obviously it’s an incredible source of comfort for you and that is JUST as important. What’s the point of being more “available” to cook and clean if you’re completely stressed and overwhelmed because you aren’t getting in your “run therapy”?! I’m not a parent yet, but they say you have to take care of yourself first before you can take care of your children. You’re definitely doing that by scheduling time for yourself and doing what makes you feel happy and healthy (and sane)!

My favorite race was the Disney World Half and my dream race is the NYC Marathon. I live here and love this City- it would truly be a dream to run through it with thousands of people cheering on the sidelines. Someday. I WILL do it someday.

I ran 5k on street the other day, I though I was gonna die, don’t know how you do it, but I’m working on it. I love reading your blog,

My favorite race was a little 5 miler that I did last weekend for our local YMCA where I coach gymnastics. It was loads of fun to cheer on friends and the weather was great! I have two favorite races; one is the 10k girls on the run in Sacramento because I was able to run with my sister which made it magical and with all the other feminine power which was super amazing. It’s also a great flat course. My other favorite race is the SLO marathon. They also have a half. I did the full, my first, and it was fun to train on the course as I live here and I felt super confident on the course while everyone else was dismayed by our hills and wind. It was also very fun to have friends and family calling my name and cheering me on throughout the course and at the finsih. My dream would be NYC or Boston….also to do a race in every state.

My favorite half is actually my PR half from April. I wasn’t really trained and it was in San Francisco (inaugural rock n roll SF). Because of those two things I knew I just wanted to make it a good one: enjoy the scenery and just run what felt good. I did that, stopped to take pics, took pics of others, rarely looked at my garmin, slowed down when I needed to and sped up when I felt good. I took in all my surroundings and just really loved the race – and surprising enough to me, I somehow still PR’d!

It is hard to choose between the Columbus Marathon 2010 where I qualified for Boston or the Boston Marathon 2012. The Columbus Marathon was so awesome – well organized, great course, great pacers, exciting start and finish. The whole Boston experience was amazing. The actual running of the race was a nightmare (it the super hot year!), but everything else was awesome. Love Boston!

I’ve been wearing Mizunos (the waveriders) for the past 6 years and never plan to wear any other running shoe 🙂 My favorite/most memorable race was winning my conference 2 mile championship race during my senior year of high school. I went on to run competitively at the Division 1 level during my undergraduate years, but I will never forget the joy and excitement as I crossed the finish line. I had been battling an eating disorder for several years prior to that, and this was the first season that I was deemed ‘healthy’ enough to be able to train and compete. My love for running was something that helped me overcome my own struggles with anorexia and low self-esteem because running became something for me that I was truly confident in and something that made me happy. For me, crossing the finish line signified the beginning of the next chapter in my life; a life without my eating disorder, and for this reason, I will never ever forget that feeling and that day.

My favorite race I have ever ran has been the Komen Dallas Race for the Cure in the Fall of 2011. It was my 1st year away at college and I was experiencing terrible homesickness. My mom is my best friend/rock/#1 fan and it was really hard for me to adjust to daily life without her. As I was running that race on a chilly morning in Dallas, a runner passed me and the back of her shirt read “I am running for my mom.” I, no joke, starting crying while running as chills spread down my body. In that moment I realized how blessed I am to even have a mother that is alive and healthy. I held that thought with me for the rest of the race and had probably the biggest grin when I crossed the finish line. That experience has stuck with me ever since and has made me utterly grateful whenever I get to spend time with my mother. 🙂

My favorite race so far was a teeny, tiny 10K here in town because it was the first 10k my mom ever attempted and she was able to run the whole distance. Plus, because it was such a small race no one minded me looping back along the course after I crossed the finish line to find my mom and cheer her on for her last mile. I really want to attempt a full marathon in 2014 and I also think it would be really fun to run any of the Disney 1/2 marathons.

My favorite race I’ve run so far is the Color Run 5K I just ran with my 4 year old. Shes been my training buddy in a stroller since she was an infant, but now that she’s older she wants to run and race with mommy too. So I signed us up for the color run and it was amazing! To be able to see the joy on her face was priceless. Watching my little girl smile and jog beside me is a memory I will always cherish. I learned to love running by tagging along with my daddy on his daily jogs and I am excited she’s following in our footsteps.

My bigger goals are to run a sub-1:30 half (pr is 1:31) and a 3:15-3:20 full. I just did Nike Women’s Half last weekend, and I loved it as usual! I actually passed you and SkinnyRunner last year along the course 🙂 I also did Tinkerbell Half in January that was fun of course, but it wasn’t with my Fleet Feet Racing Team so I didn’t have all my people there!

I’m SO excited for you, and 100% sure that you DO deserve this. You work so hard and are an inspiration to so many (like me!). Your family will LOVE Disney World – and the races are the best! My favorite race is tied between the Disney Marathon (my first) and the Allstate Dallas 13.1 (which has been my PR multiple times, including yesterday, and is such an amazing course!)

My favorite race to date has been the Angels half marathon, because it was a small but well run race with a kids run in addition to the half – the family got to come out and play as well. My dream race is completing a marathon (any marathon!) – working full time with a set of twins (slightly older than yours) makes getting the mileage difference in between a half and a full difficult, but I’m trying to get it done!

First I am grateful for any race I am able to run. I’ve been sidelined before from injuries & therefore I know too that any run I have is a blessing! And I couldn’t do it without my mizuno shoes too, they are the absolute best. I recently ran the army ten miler, which was a similar experience to running Marine Corp marathon last year. Just knowing what those men & women do every day & see wounded warriors out there is an incredible experience. And to know that I can go out there & do something I love like running to help support them, well count me in! I’m hoping to do MCM again in 2015 for it’s 40th anniversary & my 40th bday year too. Hope you enjoyed MCM, from looks of it, it sounds like you did! And my pie in the sky dream is to one day quality for boston too! You just never know!

My favorite race so far was actually two races – this May I completed the “Nut Job” challenge at the Frederick Running Festival. Twilight 5K followed by a half marathon Sunday morning. I had been injured and unable to train properly for 5 months leading up to the races, so I was extremely nervous, but my dad (a long-time runner who finally convinced me to join the dark side!) paced me through the 5K. On Sunday, I PRed in the half by nine minutes! (Dad did too, though not by that much!) It was a fantastic race that I’d love to run again. Next up on my bucket list is the Nike Women’s – either DC or San Fran would be fine by me, but I can’t resist that little blue Tiffany’s box!

But the best part is that I will know that my husband and my two year old son will be waiting for me at the finish line! This past year is when I started racing the most and I don’t think I could choose just one race. Each race I’ve improved my time for the distance in the 5k and 10ks. I completed my first half marathon with a time I didn’t expect to finish in. I also just completed the Chicago marathon, my first, as well. It’s been a great year of races and I have no intentions of slowing down! Next year goal is a triathlon. One day I’d love to do a 50 miler. You’ve done amazing in your races! You’re faster than me even after being injured! You’re awesome! Thanks for a chance at a giveaway.

My dream is to run an ultra, any ultra to start. My favorite race was the Delaware Half Marathon because it was the first longer race my family (husband, kids, parents) were able to attend and greet me at the finish! I am running Philly Marathon in a few weeks and I’m super psyched. Would love to try out a pair of Mizunos! I’ve always been an Asics or Brooks girl.

Favorite race: the Falmouth Road Race held in Falmouth, MA. A little over 7 miles of some of the most scenic / gorgeous landscape anywhere in the US? Huge enthusiastic crowds line the entire course as you run by spectacular ocean views, past a lighthouse right out of a picture postcard and finally spot the finish line as you crest the largest hill on the course. What awaits is an awesome finish beneath the largest American flag You’ll ever see. Truly the most memorable run I’ve ever done.

My favorite race I have ever ran was my first full marathon at the NWM in 2012. It wasn’t a race that I was running for time, I just wanted to do it for myself and in memory of my friends daughter. I had been battaling a stomach bacteria for 2 years and had just been treated with stong medication the month before. I was scared of how my stomach would feel but I did it anyways. I loved that I saw my husband at a few points throughout the race he was such a trooper being out there. There was a lady at mile 20 I think, with tortilla chips who made my day! I saw you lol for the first time flying towards the finish line while I still had to go around a lake:p lol. I never once stopped, I never walked I surprisingly felt amazing! Best race memory to date! I hope I win!!:)

Thanks for sharing your DC experience! I really want to run Frankfurt next year. I volunteered there last weekend and it seemed like everybody was having a blast. So I guess running one of the fastest European marathons in these flashy Wave Sayonaras would be really sweet 🙂 I also tweeted about the giveaway @MartinaBail!

I started running a little over two years ago and completed my first half marathon this fall. It was one of the “Diva” runs outside of DC. Beautiful weather and lovely rolling hills. Running with my mom and sister in the same race also made it a great weekend! 🙂

My favorite marathon so far has been Bayshore Marathon in Traverse City, MI. It is a nice, flat course that takes you to the end on a peninsula in Lake Michigan and Back. It’s an out and back course so no chance of getting lost. The crowd support and excitement of the Boston Marathon was pretty amazing as well!

Well, I take back my original comment, my goal was to run a 10k in Richmond Va in March, come to find out there is a marathon in 2 weeks and they have a 8k I think I can run. I hit the streets after reading many articles trying to figure out what I was doing wrong and finally can say I actually enjoy running on the road. After running trails for so long my pace seemed to be the problem. But I think I got it in the bag. I will be running the HSA 8K in 2 weeks, and hopefully be back next year to do the half. Thanks for all the inspiration, enjoy reading your blog.
