Challenges, Races and a Really Great Runner’s World Training Deal

Wednesday Workout:

Taught a spin class then jumped on the treadmill for an easy pace 7 miles.

Random thoughts:

I’m pretty sure I impressed a few people with my gym bag this morning.

I’m really like Jenny as a co-host on The View. I’ve never really been a huge fan of the show, but I like it more with her on there.

Oh and they talked a bout a new Muppet movie coming out Thanksgiving night. Mark your calendars! I can’t wait!

Before I get to challenges to share, I’ve been dealing with a few of my own here.

So yesterday, we didn’t make it to Penzeys Spices like I had originally planned. But, we did go on a different kind of unplanned adventure.

We braved a trip to the Asian Market.

Zion Market. I’d heard of this place before, but have never been.

Um…. holy smokes it was HUGE!

2013-11-12 13.42.26

Obviously, the boys knew exactly what we were after.

2013-11-12 13.49.02

Ha ha. We stocked up on a few small kabochas and a couple bags of purple sweet potatoes. Got a few other things, but not much as we have another adventure on the horizon.

We will definitely be going back though. Actually, wait, I will definitely be going back hopefully by myself so I can really scope things out and check out the good prices.

This morning my challenges were with the oven.

My ginormous no grain plantain cupcake had some issues.

I burned it and somehow a little piece jumped out and ended up on the bottom of the oven. What? The oven was, wait actually still is, dirty but I ate that piece anyway. Ha ha.

Later this afternoon this happened.

Oops. I have no idea how that got in there. Maybe it was stuck to the bottom of a pan or something, but hopefully they boys won’t miss a melted bullet for their Buzz Lightyear “pewing” guns. Shnikies.

After a week without any roasted kabocha squash, it was time.

I made some kind of random pumpkin chia protein goo to go on top. Wasn’t too shabby.

Oh and we got the most fabulous delivery today. Love seeing this Chobani box at the front door.

So, a little racing and challenge training talk.

I’ve got another race coming up this weekend. The Big Sur Half Marathon. I’m super excited to go to Monterey. The last time I was there for the Big Sur Marathon I was injured and ran “naked”. I didn’t really get to experience the whole thing, so I’m anxious to see how the half marathon goes.

I love a lot of things about how they run their races. They have a JUST RUN Kids’ Race Series and a whole going green initiative.

Also coming up is a really fun local race.

Athleta Iron Girl Del Mar Women’s 10K 12/8/13

It should be so much fun!

If you’re local and you want to come run with me you can get 10% off with the code STUFTMAMA.

Register here.

They have a bunch of different options. 10K, 5K, stroller walk, Mother/Daughter team, etc.

The main reasons I’m excited about this race?

This year’s race will have a holiday theme with many new event amenities, surprises and enhancements. There will be a holiday costume contest, photo booth, cookie decorating contest, holiday spirits, punch, hot chocolate, lots of food, shopping giveaways, a huge toy drive and so much more to make this event extra special. We will also have a special stroller stride wave so the whole family can be involved.

Holiday costume contest, food, giveaways and cookie decorating? I’m so in.

Come hang out with me.

The Runner’s World Challenge (sidenote- I really, really, really miss my training plan at the moment and am a bit of a lurker on the challenge boards since others are still chatting about upcoming races and training) is offering 50% off their training plans.

Heck yes, 50% off their online plans!

Yep, you get a free watch, a book, your choice of a training plan, a year of access to the online community which is awesome and a membership to the Runner’s World Personal Trainer.

I can’t say enough good things about the challenge program. I actually need to find a race so I can use their training plan again. You pick your race, they help you along the way.

Okay, and I better get going. I’m still playing catch up with the travel laundry situation and I better get to cleaning the oven before I do any more damage.

Good times.

Happy Wednesday.

Have you ever been to an Asian market? Have I been missing out this whole time?

Any random oven mishaps you’d like to share to make me feel better?

Do you have any races coming up?

I am totally trying to take it easy with my running and recoup after my 2 marathons in 2 weeks….but I have to admit it is not that easy :). I keep seeing people posting things about racing and I am already getting the racing itch again :/! I have never been to an Asian market, but it looks HUGE!

I have never been to an asian market before, but it sounds like somewhere I would like to go!

I can’t imagine how much Chobani is in that box! Yum!! Makes me want some as I type this. 🙂

I don’t think we have an Asian market here – hmmm.
We have nerf darts everywhere – inside light fixtures in the ceiling fan in the living room, on the skylight window sills, stuck on top of art work – my home will never be “magazine” worthy but it’s fun!!!

Oh I’m so jealous you’re doing the big sur half, that was my first half marathon many moons ago. Are you bringing the family? It’s really close to the Monterey bay aquarium if you are, gorgeous area.

I love Asian markets, especially good if we are making our own sushi, they have the best ahi tuna at great prices.

I don’t have any races until January…boo….unless I sign up for a local turkey trot or Xmas race….we’ll see.

I looked at the Runner’s World Challenge page thinking it would be helpful for my first half marathon in May but unfortunately it’s only available to US residence. 🙁 Don’t they know that we Canadians are the Northern cousins?

There’s a huge Asian market in the Ottawa area and when we are visiting family we try to stop in. There’s so many interesting and weird food choices and we like to guess what they might be used for … pig uterus? Not sure what you would do with that!

I’ve never been to an Asian market either. It looks like an awesome place! I can’t count how many things I’ve had flow over the side of a dish when I’m cooking. I hate that burnt smell. I hate cleaning the oven even more. Those races look so fun. I wish NC wasn’t as far as it is. I”m considering doing a half in December. I need something to keep me motivated in this cold weather!

This really isn’t related to the current post, but I’m just curious, do you prefer nutbutter, pb2 or coconut butter? Or does it just depend on what you are eating it with? I’m been doing various research on all of it, but they are all kind of expensive, and so just wondering which one to try first!

      STUFT Mama says:

Totally depends on what I’m eating. I LOVE NuttZo and coconut butter lately. 🙂 I know, they can be pricey. I would say try one of those first though. 🙂

After seeing all of your kombucha pictures and recipes, I’ve decided that you should come to my house and just make if for me since mine never seems to look like yours. Sound good?

What’s a race? 😉 MAN – you have quite a lot going on – HOLY CRAP! Enjoy that run this weekend! You are amazing!!!!

OK, the boys crack me up & I want a huge bag of purple sweet potatoes! I am so glad I finally found!!!

I carry bags like Sprouts & target & around too! 🙂

    Hi Kristin!

Just a quick question, I just registered for my first full marathon (!!!) and I’d like to get the Running World training plan. It advertises that it’s for running your best full marathon, but at this point my only goal is to finish. Do you think that this plan would be a good one in my case? Or should I just get the first-timer training plan and get this one once I have a time goal in mind? Or maybe it’s the same thing? So many questions! Thank you in advance!
