Well, hello. Me again.
Just really quick because this night has turned out exactly as I had planned and I just had to share. Ha ha.
So yes, we got a family PR earlier today at the 3K race. We’re still pretty proud. We probably should have rested and taken it easy afterwards, but that just wouldn’t be our style.
Instead we ventured around Monterey a bit.
First we hiked it over to the Big Sur Half Marathon expo.
I just have to say I’m a huge fan of their expos here. Everything is run so well and they have this small town feeling. This one was very similar to the Big Sur Marathon expo, just a lot smaller.
Everyone is so helpful and nice. They even have fresh water set out where you pick up your bibs.
They also have these recycle and compost bins set up everywhere. Love the whole green thing and focus on respecting and taking care of our environment.
We didn’t stay too long since the family was still recovering from the race and they’re not huge fans of expos, but we made our normal photo stops.
I got ditched about 5 minutes in so tried to make it snappy. I got my number and my shirt.
I made only two pit stops. One for some Ghirardelli chocolate
and one at the Endure jewelry booth.
These earrings may or may not have been too cute to pass up.
We headed down to Fisherman’s Wharf in search of lunch right after the expo.
The place we really wanted to go scared us away with this sign out in front.
We knew we didn’t stand a chance of being “allowed”.
We went to Crabby Jim’s instead. They won the boys over with the clam chowder samples.
We were happy with our choice as we were definitely not a quiet table and there was a pretty awesome view.
Andrew and I both went with the Crabby’s Crab and Shrimp Louie salad.
I got a few extra things on the side of course.
After lunch and another Americano we headed to the Monterey Aquarium.
The place was awesome. Thank goodness too since it wasn’t exactly the cheapest entertainment.
We felt like we got our money’s worth though.
I’m getting a little tired and should probably get some shut eye soon, so I’ll have to show you the butt load of pictures I took later. Ha ha.
We got to explore Cannery Row a bit while we attempted to find a taxi.
Our attempt to find a taxi failed, but I found chocolate yet again. Funny how that works.
I always drool over these huge caramel apples. Always.
I know I’m doing the whole Grain Brain Challenge thing, but I told Andrew if I get under 1:35 tomorrow I’m getting one of these.
He said he’ll be the judge of that.
We had big plans to go to Rosine’s tonight for dinner (like I did the last time I was here).
Whelp, those plans pretty much went down the drain when I called and they had an hour wait and wouldn’t take reservations or anything. Awesome.
Then our boys got tired. I mean really tired. I know some of you know what I mean. Whiney. Grumpy. The works.
So we went out in search of the closest food we could find.
We found it.
Not the ideal pre race meal. In fact, it was my first ever Chipotle experience, but hey, what are you going to do.
Sometimes the more you plan, the more things just don’t work out the way you want.
I went with a chicken salad.
I’m pretty sure I ate it in record time as within 5 minutes of sitting down the boys were fast asleep.
Seriously, I wish I was kidding.
Yep. It was a LONG walk back. They are getting heavy friends.
And well, luckily I brought the same goods I’ve been bringing on my trips lately and did some serious carbing up once we got back to the hotel. I knew there was a reason I brought that stuff along.
Okay, and with that I’m off to bed.
We shall see what tomorrow brings. Luckily I’m slower and put a lot less pressure on myself since the whole hip dysplasia thing because I’m learning that these STUFT Mezamashii Mizuno Month family “racecations” are NOT about my race performance. They are about the whole experience for everyone. I think that’s exactly how it should be though, right?
See you on the other side friends!
Good luck to everyone racing tomorrow. I know there are a lot of other races going on. Can’t wait to hear about them.
And to all of you not racing, hope you have a fabulous Sunday!
