Runs and the Scramble of the Week, Sunday Chatting and Holiday Socks

After a busy week, last night looked a little like this.

Love that wine.

So far, Kitty’s Sunday has looked like this.

Today is a rest day. My new plan for this month is to make Sundays my rest days. No running, no working out, just being mama with the boys and planning meals and catching up on life. Good plan, huh?

This morning was a slow one. I may or may not still be in my pajamas and we made some gourmet green pancakes.

2013-12-01 09.08.07

By special request I attempted to make Mickey Mouse ones.

2013-12-01 09.17.47

I just can’t get them right. There must be a secret.

I haven’t talked workouts or running all week. Things have been a bit nutty with Thanksgiving and all so I thought I’d do a little recap. I tried to run a little more this week because I have some big plans to do a long treadmill run for Run 60 Feet on my birthday at the end of January. We’ll see if I can pull it off. It’s weird kind of coming up with my own training plan. It takes a lot of time researching and putting things together.

Taught my usual classes at the gyms and did a short 3 mile treadmill run.

An early morning 11 mile treadmill run at home. I thought I could finish before everyone woke up. I was wrong.

Movie for Tuesday was this one. It was so so.

Then I taught a short BOSU class later in the day.

Taught a spin class and hopped on the treadmill for 7 slow miles afterwards.

Any guesses who’s on that TV? Supposedly their new Christmas album is doing really well.

Another early morning 7 miles on the treadmill at home.

2013-11-28 08.22.09

Watched the first part of Four Christmases. Pretty cute holiday movie, especially if you love Vince Vaughn.

Went for my first long run since the Marine Corps Marathon in October. I was a little nervous, but realized that the Carlsbad Marathon is only 7 or so weeks away so I better figure out a training plan and get some long runs in.

It was a little tough to get going the morning after Thanksgiving. I was definitely thinking the double desserts may not have been the best idea.

2013-11-28 18.01.23

Speaking of double desserts, this guy did the same thing. He loves his sweets and had been talking about Grandma’s chocolate pie all week.

Ha ha.

I took my normal pre long run breakfast (plantain egg-rito) on the road.

2013-11-29 06.55.55

Not that nice to look at. Not that easy to eat while driving.

It was here when I made a bathroom stop before starting my run that I had to give myself a little talk. It went a little something like this, “Girl, just get it done and see how it feels”.

2013-11-29 07.50.18

Surprisingly, once I started out it felt really good. I hadn’t run outside for over a week. It was so nice to just let my mind wander. I stopped for one picture at my 10 mile turn around.

2013-11-29 09.24.47

The second half of my run was pretty wet. I didn’t mind though.

It’s always such a good feeling when that long run is done.

2013-11-29 10.54.32

Crooked glasses, crooked smile, lovely.

Twenty miles done. It felt good.

2013-11-29 10.55.41

My Mizuno Inspires have pretty much maxed out their mileage and I’m anxiously awaiting the new Inspires that come out this month.

2013-11-29 10.54.27

Seriously, I’m so lucky that I get to be one my own for hours to just run. It’s a blessing and I’m not sure how long it will last, but I’m living the dream while I can.

2013-11-29 10.58.03

I’ve been loving Vega Sport recovery accelerator lately after tough workouts or long runs. I have that and chia shots with me at all times.

2013-11-29 10.59.57

That help me over long enough to get home before I really had a big meal.

Early morning treadmill run at home. I was on the treadmill by 5:15 am. My main motivations were this movie (The Family Stone- LOVE it) and the fact that I would have the rest of the day to get other things done.

2013-11-30 07.02.15

Twelve miles. It wasn’t as bad as I thought doing it the day after my long run.

The ONLY reason I did it was because of this training plan that has two long runs back to back. Then I taught boot camp.

I’m feeling it today.

60 miles this week. Can’t remember the last time I did that. I’m pooped. So yes, today is a much needed rest day.

While we’re on the topic of running, I was misinformed about the fastest mile in this post last month. Thank you to Sandi who let me know I was wrong.

I looked up this Runner’s World article with a little mile trivia and found that the current women’s record is 4:12.56 by Svetlana Masterkova of Russia. You can check out the article here. There’s a lot of pretty interesting information on the mile.

I can’t imagine going that fast. Holy smokes.

And, my friend and fellow Runner’s World Challenge buddy Laura got first female finisher at her local 5K yesterday.

Yay Laura!

My scramble I’ve been making pretty much every day this week has been one with either our fresh eggs or egg whites (that are on sale right now) with this Trader Joe’s turkey bacon and shredded chard.

It is usually closely followed by a roasted kabocha boat and/or roasted purple sweet potatoes.

In fact, the other day I did this.

Yep. A baked chocolate chip Quest Bar with coconut butter and a roasted purple sweet potato. I try to not have Quest Bars too often because of the artificial sweeteners, but they are darn good.

Oh and I heard a rumor that Quest Nutrition is going to have a cool Cyber Monday deal, but I don’t know what it is yet.

One really important thing before I go.

These Pro Compression holiday socks will be available starting tomorrow ON SALE.

2013-11-25 06.28.39

Just a head’s up because they’ll sell out FAST!

Last year I wore my holiday socks a lot.

2012-12-22 09.09.142012-12-22 15.26.17

This year I’m going to wear these guys for the first time next weekend at the Iron Girl Del Mar 10K.

2013-11-25 06.29.47

Oh and one last thing. I loved this from last night in the boys’ devotional.

2013-11-30 19.52.45

Perfect, yes? Such a good message.

I have 2 giveaways set for tomorrow (Monday) so stay tuned! Yipee!

Have a marvelous Sunday!

What are you up to?

Have you done any shopping over the weekend?

Is it a rest day for you or did you get a workout in?

Have you ever trained for a race longer than a marathon?

Well, for some reason when I saw the title of this post, I kept thinking “the runs.” I was hoping I wasn’t going to read a post about your bathroom dilemmas and then got really nervous when you mentioned the pit stop before your long run. Ha!! :)

Back to back long runs are definitely key to successful ultra training. That’s exactly what I did when I trained for a 50 mile ultra last year. I’m looking forward to hearing more about your Stuft 60 challenge!
A tip on making Mickey waffles: make the batter a little thicker and also make the main circle smaller than you think you need to. :)

Wow! you’re amazing. Thats some heavy mileage. I can’t do too much on the treadmill- I get wayyy bored. I did do 16 outside today! Felt pretty darn good. I’m trying to get comfortable at higher mileage runs. Glad you enjoyed your time with the boys

I love that move The Family Stone!!

Didn’t do any in person shopping (unless you include groceries!), but did do some online shopping. Plan to do more tomorrow if I see some good deals online.

Right now Wednesdays are my rest days and that seems to work pretty well for me.

Today we put up our tree and lights outside!

Way to go on the 60 mile week!! That is awesome!
I am literally sitting here waiting for the PRO compression email to tell me the socks are on sale. (They are on the site, but a discount code doesn’t work yet.) I like last year’s better, but these ones are nice too! I must have them to go along with my red & white tutu for my holiday races :)
I have been doing a lot of shopping this weekend. I am almost finished shopping for everyone…and everything I have bought already is wrapped and under the tree :)

Congrats on the week – nice job. I’m trying to rehab a hamstring thing so not much running, but ran 7 today that felt pretty good. Excited to get back to it! I’ve run one 50 mile race and trained for another (stupid hamstring got in the way) and the super long runs /back to back long runs are key. I’ve found that I can race pretty well off of those types of workouts, even though the actual “speedwork” type stuff wouldn’t have predicted it. I love training for those races though and am hoping I can get ready for one in early February, if not, will run a 100K in April.

I love roasted squash and sweet potatoes, but it seems like it might have gone too far when you are baking a quest bar into it? That just seems…not right to me. I sincerely hope that you are just not showing us a lot of what you eat, because otherwise your diet seems really limited. If you’re trying to avoid wheat, maybe brown rice? Quinoa? Corn tortillas? Especially as you ramp up your mileage, it seems like those types of carbohydrates would be helpful.

Oh, and a movie suggestion: Impromptu. Love it!

My sis-in-law from TX was here and we ran outside 3x while she was here – 8,8, 16 (her longest run ever) – she is training for her first marathon and I just like to run (even though I prefer my treadmill when it’s as cold as it was – 17 degrees one day!).
60 miles in a week is incredible!!!
