I really should stop taking selfies of myself both at home and at the gym, but I did it again last night. Dumb, I know, but I’m putting it on here anyway.

Be really happy you don’t come to my classes. Those poor people hear my life story and have to deal with a lot STUFT crazies. I’m pretty sure none of them even know I write this blog. Funny, huh?

I had a long run planned for this morning. My training has been a bit all over the place. I don’t have anything written out and planned, so I keep just getting the miles in and calling it good enough. I need to stop that and get a darn plan in place.

Last night I stayed up a little later than usual, ate way too much dark chocolate and almond butter. The perfect combination, but I was tired and should have just gone to bed. (This bar is the best by the way, they have them at Sprouts.)

So, this morning I did not have the best attitude about my run. Before I even got out of bed I was thinking it was going to be rough.

I did my usual taking my time to get ready thing before leaving the house and headed out with my plantain egg-rito and coffee.

2013-12-13 07.09.21

While driving to my starting spot I kept having doubts.

Doubting myself, my upcoming races and the big treadmill run I’m hoping to do for a Sixty Feet at the end of January.

Wondering if I was making the right choice to go run for hours when really I should be home cleaning house and getting things ready for the holidays.

Thinking that I should just turn around and go home and hang out with the family.

Feeling like I should go home and finally put away the laundry that’s been sitting clean in the basket for 3 days and mail some packages that I was supposed to mail last month.

You know, all kinds of fun stuff.

Well, I got to my little running spot, got my butt out of the car and tried to not give myself much time to think about it. The sooner I started, the sooner I would be done and be able to go home and tackle everything else.

I figured if it was miserable and made me grumpy and took anything away from my main job of being a mom and wife, then I would re-evaluate some things about what’s coming up in the near future.

On the plus side, I did have some fun new Koss fitclips headphones though.

2013-12-13 08.08.54

Long story short, I started out with a goal of 22 miles, not even caring what pace I ran. I didn’t look at my Polar GPS once. I just ran and let my mind go while listening to Kelly Clarkson’s Christmas album.

I went on a new route. I figured it would distract me a bit.

Around mile 10 I realized, hey, I’m feeling pretty darn good and darn it, I am so lucky to be able to run and run in such a fabulous place.

2013-12-13 09.59.16

I mean come on, I am so freaking blessed. Really I shouldn’t be running, I have hip dysplasia and will probably need a hip replacement sooner than later.

But, I figured if God didn’t want me to run anymore He’d make that clear. I’ve given Him many opportunities with how I’ve taken neglected to take care of myself in the past, but man, this body just wants to run.

So, I guess it’s my job to let it run while I can. Who the heck knows when I won’t have the chance anymore, right?

Anyhoo….

My new route turned out to be flat and I ended up running one of the fasted long runs I’ve ever ran.

2013-12-13 11.27.25

According to this pace calculator I ran an average of 8:31. I usually go A LOT slower than that on long runs.

So, lesson learned.

If you have a gift, use it. Obviously it’s not going to be easy and we’re always going to doubt ourselves and what we’re capable of and do the whole self-sabotage thing, but darn it, just get out there and give yourself a chance. Kick all those negative thoughts to the curb.

2013-12-13 11.27.53

Yes?

Yes.

The laundry, dishes and Christmas shopping will be there when you get back.

Total side note, but I’ve only had these Mizuno shoes for 8 days and they already have over 54 miles on them.

Oh, and I’ve been loving Vega recovery accelerator immediately following my long runs lately until I get home to have a good meal.

2013-12-13 11.41.24

I got all fancy today and put it with some ice water I got from a hotel.

2013-12-13 11.43.04

Living it up. Ha.

Well, shucks, totally not what I planned on posting today, but oh well.

I guess I should tell you about the cool headphones in case you still have shopping to do or haven’t started yet like yours truly.

I got these Koss Fit Series FitClips and FitBuds last week for a campaign with FitFluential LLC.

IMG_1785IMG_1787

I like the whole theme of being designed for women, by women.

IMG_1790

Koss’ female designers teamed-up with Gold Medalist Dara Torres to create these. And let’s face it, Dara Torres is pretty awesome.

IMG_1791

The FitClips go over the ears to keep them in place, have three different cushion sizes

IMG_1788

and they come in a bunch of fun colors.

IMG_1792

I’m pretty happy with the orange ones they sent.

IMG_1793IMG_1794

I also go a pair of purple FitBuds that fit right in the ear and are specifically designed for small ears.

IMG_1795IMG_1796

Both products are also sweat resistant.

I have teeny tiny ears, so I always laugh when they say they’re designed for small ears. Usually ear buds don’t stay in place for me, but with the small cushions on they seemed to fit.

IMG_1798

I wore them last week for a six mile run and they actually stayed in place the whole time.

2013-12-05 09.13.44

Score.

The sound quality is pretty great too, especially because these have such a great price ($29.99).

The FitClips I wore today have been worn a couple other times too. I like the security of having them loop over the ear so I really don’t have to mess with them at all.

They survived 20 miles last week

2013-12-06 10.40.25

and 22 today.

You can buy them at the following retailers:

Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Walgreens, Kmart and Sears

Most of the retailers have them on sale right now for the holidays for only $19.99. (I actually just found them online here for only $14.99.)

You can get more info on all Koss products by following Koss on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest.

And now, before I go I will show you my fabulous lunch from yesterday just because.

2013-12-12 15.18.55

A baked spicy turkey burger (yes, I pretty much bake anything and everything because I’m lazy) on butter lettuce with tomato and onion topped with Tapatio and Slap Ya Mama. The best part was the spicy roasted jicama chips and Trader Joe’s guacamole.

2013-12-12 15.19.25

Mmmmm hmmm……. I’m out of cassava for cassava “fries”, so I had to go back to jicama for a bit. He he.

Um, and yeah, I bought these little mini bananas last week and have no idea what to do with them.

2013-12-12 21.01.47

Any ideas?

Have a great Friday night!

Do you ever doubt yourself?

Do you wear ear buds of ones that go over the ears? By the way, does anyone else have tiny ears?

Baby banana ideas- please and thank you.

You are awesome! Weird but I just copied a great list of questions to ask to determine if you are living your “Best Self”. It is/was very eye-opening…let me know and I can send you a copy of them via e-mail or in a comment (:

That recovery accelerator tastes good, the only vega product I’ve had that does. I like to mix half a scoop accelerator and half scoop growing naturals vanilla rice protein. I wish the recovery accelerator used stevia instead of rice syrup, but maybe the sugar it is for “recovery” purposes?
Sounds like you had a great 22 mile run outside, you always get those long runs done!

Love your eggritos but careful of burnt foods! They are more likely to contain carcinogens!

Are you kidding??? My middle name should be DOUBT~

And now I know (as if I didn’t before) why others are in great shape and I am not….its b/c when those thoughts of doubt and the laundry list of “to-do’s” get longer and longer in my head I stop and run for home immediately! With out thinking another thought….I feel the need to fold laundry, wash dishes, bake those Christmas cookies, and catch up on blogs …..and the exercise can wait.

I want to change my thinking but its hard…..I want to “WANT TO” exercise like soooo many others but, it usually is the last priority on my list….I want to make it first but, honestly it usually isn’t. I know every body is different and that’s ok….but its still stressful….I need to just LET IT GO!

(yep, another reference to my fav. Disney movie right now…FROZEN!)

I have never had problems with headphones, but I know my husband does! He can never find the right ones! He too has tiny ears and they all fall out and he gets so frustrated!

Mine go over my ears, but I need smaller ones, for sure.

Also, look at you with your wine and dine shirt…I so should have said hi to you at that race. :::kicks dirt:::

I’ve never tried Koss earbuds or clips, but I’ve heard good things about them. I don’t often take the time to make guacamole, but I use avocados a lot. They’re so good for you and taste good, too.

I used to wear over the ear earbuds all the time until mine died on me after a couple of years. Then I bought Yurbuds, which I LOVE because they are sized and if you have little ears, you can get a smaller ear. The way they fit in your ear makes them comfortable and they do not fall out after running a ton of mileage.

Never tried the over the ear headphones but I definitely have trouble getting earbuds to cooperate! It seems okay in cool weather but any sweaty day or inside on the treadmill and they fall out :(

seems like many of us have tiny ears!! i have yet to find a pair that fits! i have been blessed to be gifted with really expensive ones for my running and one pair i got has a really large Swarovski crystal (from Swarovski) on each side but even with the different size cushions it just couldnt stick on and kept falling out after awhile! thats why i run without music!

    Anita says:

I doubt myself almost daily on my runs even though I know it’s the worst thing I can do for myself. I thought I was the only one with tiny ears! I bought Yurbuds for Women because they said they were made for smaller ears but even with the smallest cushion they were too big. I now use a Sony Walkman that goes over my ears, it cordless and is water proof so I can use them in the pool while swimming laps. The buds create a gentle suction so water doesn’t get in or fall out when I’m running.

No ideas for the baby banana’s but they do look super cute :)

  12. 12

I like to wear the headphones that go over your ear. Earbuds never stay in my ears. I have the Yurbuds right now, but I have actually been thinking about trying the Koss brand!
Question for you…You said you run your long runs at a slower pace, but then how the heck do you run such speedy marathons?

Missy I wonder the same thing. Seriously. Ha. I do a lot or cross training like HIIT and spin class that is super intense. I swear that helps. And ….. I do try to get speed work in at least once a week. I think I’m just lucky though.
