Some Good Times and a Little Book Signing

It’s always nice to look back on all the good things that happened over the weekend when it comes to an end and we’re getting ready to face Monday head on isn’t it?

I would like to do that if you don’t mind. If you you’re not a fan of the photo dumps, well, come on back tomorrow and I’ll be all business. Ha.

Super high class Saturday night with this pink moscato wine that I’m pretty sure was less than $5

and a throw together whatever kind of meal on a paper plate.

Today was a rest day. It involved a lot of time in the kitchen this morning with quite a bit of coffee

and baking.

IMG_2250IMG_2251

We made a batch of healthy, gluten free STUFT green muffins.

IMG_2252

Same recipe as Gluten Free STUFT Green Banana Bread, but we made muffins, subbed in kale for the spinach and didn’t have enough yogurt so we subbed in some milk instead.

They took 25 minutes to cook rather than the full time it takes to bake the bread.

I really don’t think you can go wrong with these though.

Then the boys had this idea to pretend like we were at Trader Joe’s and I was the sample lady. They wanted to sample cheese with toothpicks.

Good times.

I had the idea to test that grain free flatbread I’ve been making and see how long it actually has to cook in the oven so I can give you a recipe.

I think I have it figured out. It might just need one more try. Ha.

Then I went to a book signing to meet Diane Sanfilippo, author of the 21 Day Sugar Detox Book and 21 Day Sugar Detox Cookbook.

I was super excited to meet her since her book pretty much changed my life. The line was pretty long for her to sign books so I couldn’t chat as much as I would’ve liked to. Maybe it was a good thing though because I didn’t have time to fly my freak flag or anything.

She is so sweet.

2014-01-12 15.06.52

Not only did her book help me get away from my overconsumption of artificial sweeteners, etc. but I really think eating more of a Paleo type diet, outlined in her book Practical Paleo, helped me tremendously with recovering from hip dysplasia. Maybe not, but I really think diet (the whole STUFT Detox thing) played a huge part of coming back from my injury.

Which makes me think, I’ve really been letting a little too much real (usually in the form of huge desserts) and artificial sugar (usually in the form of Quest Bars) be a part of my diet lately. It’s time to clean things up a bit, especially if I want to be able to prevent injury, rest and recover well, and just be kind to my body during all this running.

I got to meet Hayley and Bill from Primal Palate too.

Their best selling cookbook is Make it Paleo.

I picked myself up a copy after Hayley assured me that the recipes in there were easy. I’m all about easy meals these days.

Oh and as luck would have it the book signing event was in the kid’s section of Barnes and Nobles so I found this cool magnetic responsibility chart.

2014-01-12 15.11.33

I’m pumped.

We’re starting that tomorrow. I just wish they would’ve had a buy one get one free deal or something. Ha.

Alright, whelp, I’ve got my Handful tank on ready for bed, ready to hit the treadmill early. You know making it easier to get it done in the morning.

Smile

I’ve also got a No Grain STUFT Seedy Bread ready to pop in the oven first thing in the morning too.

And,

my favorite moment was this one.

2014-01-11 17.16.36

Even though someone was hungry and got a mouthful of the old bread we were using for duck food.

2014-01-11 17.17.24

Ummmmmm…….

And my deep thought from earlier today on instagram, but it seems like a good one to start the week with also.

I have to remind myself of this A LOT.

Have a good one!

Is anyone doing the 21 Day Sugar Detox right now or has anyone done it before?

Did you do any baking over the weekend?

What was the best part of your weekend?

Absolutely LOVE the picture of the family by the water at dusk….cool!! Also cool you meet up with Diane Sanfilippo and Hayley and Bill!! I started the 21 Day Sugar Detox on January 6, with her big group. I’ve just been trying to navigate it through her website but I think I’m gunna break down and get the book. It seems like it maybe a little easier with the book. I hope my Costco still had them!! Happy Monday

I kind of want frame that picture. 🙂 Get the book- it makes it so much easier. It wasn’t out when I did my detox so I was printing out so many things from the website. I had this crazy messy folder. Ha ha. Keep on it!

I just started my 21DSD today actually! I bought the book at Barnes and Noble a while back and I am finally getting with the program today. Ack, giving up Quest bars will be hard for me too, but I’m sticking to it for the 21 days and seeing how it goes. How awesome that you got to go to a book signing! I’m jealous.

I have really wanted to try the 21 day sugar detox but it scares me! haha Had a great weekend here but I am ready to tackle this week – last week I let some things that shouldn’t affect me and it is time to move on!

I don’t drink often but if I do… I want moscato or sangria! SO good, lol! Best part of weekend: it finally being warm enough to get outside on my bike. Missing southern California weather!

I started the 21DSD on January 6 with her big group….getting past day 3 or 4 was probably the biggest hurdle. I felt myself hungry a lot more with this diet/detox plan and it’s hard to let yourself go from counting calories to eating intuitively. I think it’s a healthy investment of time and energy. Plus – I’m sure I’m saving a boat load of money not buying diet Mountain Dews, MIO water enhancers, and my beloved Quest bars (I bought four boxes of them during their big 25% off sale during the holidays….now, they are sitting….) It’s good for me to get in the habit of prepping foods on the weekend to bring in for lunch.

I baked chocolate chip cookies this weekend (so hard to not want to take a few chips/dough as I bake, thanks to the sugar detox, but I did it!! Woohoo!). I’m going to try your green muffins in a couple weeks!

Best part of my weekend – celebrating my friend’s birthday by learning basic trapeze skills on the Santa Monica Pier. So fun!! The weather couldn’t be more perfect – and being with good friends is just the best. 🙂

Hope you got a good long run in!! 🙂

I would love the calorie content for the spinach bread recipe/muffins. Those look great and I think I am going to try to whip some up this week! =) I have some frozen, leftover spinach AND Kale, so I can get really green with it. Haha

So much loving & fun! You know I love that play time being TJs tester & eater – too funny!!! And I love your fav pick of the week!!!!
