A Workout Sandwich and a Fun Run

Why hello!

Finally getting a chance to sit down and catch my breath a bit today. Oh man. I would like to thank the movie Wreck It Ralph for letting it happen.

I would also like to thank Kitty for giving me the evil eye last night that meant to turn off the computer and make sure I went to bed at a decent hour.

With my little training plan I’ve kind of created for myself to prep for the STUFT 60 Challenge, I’ve been trying to do two back to back long runs. That’s not really going to happen this week because I’m running the Carlsbad Marathon this Sunday. So I had 15 miles on the schedule today. I did not however have a good chunk of time to get it all done at once.

So….

I did a little workout sandwich.

A little run, a little spin, another two little runs. Wow that’s like a triple decker sandwich. Ha ha.

There were also three Mizuno shoe changes along the way. Ha ha.

First run was 8 easy miles at home on the treadmill.

Then taught spin and got on the gym treadmill for 4 miles.

Had a little event with the boys and then got home with just enough time to fit in the rest of my miles (while cooking up some kabocha).

The sandwich looked a little something like this.

Like my workout towels? A baby towel and then a pajama shirt? Classy. And any guesses what movie I was watching? Hard to tell from that picture, but because of that movie I have a girl crush on Rachel McAdams and a celebrity one Vince Vaughn too.

I got my 15 miles in, probably not the way I should really be training for a 37 mile treadmill run, but sometimes you just do what you can with what you have.

Anyhoo…

Did the chicken apple sausage (from Trader Joe’s) and shredded chard STUFT egg-rito thing in the car.

Also had to do the whole throw kabocha in the oven, run 3 miles and find out that it was the perfect amount of time to not burn the roasted kabocha boat for a change.

Oh, and I’m on day 4 with very limited artificial sweetener and no processed foods, etc. I miss Quest Bars terribly, but I’m sure they’ll be back soon. I just needed a little reset and a break from sugar. I’ve been eating similar to the whole STUFT detox, but not nearly as drastic, just being a little more careful, etc. to try to be nice to my body. I was inspired after the book signing the other day. It’s amazing how much better you can feel after just three days of healthy, clean eating. I did create this goodness this afternoon though with that kabocha.

That’s some homemade protein almond milk ice cream right there. Similar to the old cake batter cookie dough ice cream recipe, but no packets of sweetener and just a scoop of grass fed whey protein powder.

So today the boys had a fun run at school.

Totally not sure if I was the only mom trying to fight back proud mama tears. I am pretty sure though I was the only one that was one heck of a sweaty mess. Ha ha.

Typical of the boys- Judah was all business. Very serious about his running and barely slowed down so I could take a picture.

Joaquin started out pretty fast

but was pretty quick to stop and tell me he wanted to be done and he wanted ice cream.

Ice cream? I didn’t see any ice cream there.

Well, he sure did.

He got his ice cream (actually it was snow cones), but only after a few more laps and one cool down airplane one.

Okay, I have to get a few a ton more details figured out with the STUFT 60 Challenge. I created a page so you can just click there for more information and updates. Yay!

Have a great rest of your Wednesday!

Ever had to make a workout sandwich throughout the day?

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve eaten in the car?

I have had to make a workout sandwich before. It isn’t always easy but as long as it gets the job done! Great job fitting it all in during what seems like a crazy day!

Workout sandwiches are regular occurrences around here with two little ones as well. I hope you do well on Sunday! I’m so excited to be running the Carlsbad half. Never been to Carlsbad either…I know, shame on me, I only live 50 minutes away.

P.s. I love your cat. He makes my day with those faces.

movies to get kids to chill out and some you time= the best! LOL! Its pretty inspiring that you just find ways to fit in your workouts, even if you have to do a “workout sandwich”, good luck with carlsbad! Looks like you will have some good weather, my family has been telling me its been in the 80’s and beautiful all week, as I am shivering in colorado (:

I can remember in college trying to eat chicken pot pie while driving. I drove a Camaro too. It’s been too long but I think I ended up scarfing it down in the parking lot at work. I sure hope it wasn’t doing a safe speed going down I-81 in VA.

I love their little run for school!!
I used to do a lot of morning and evening workouts last year when my work schedule was so crazy. Now I have no idea how I ever did that haha #toomuchforme

This morning I ate OIAJ with blueberries and mango. I don’t really think it’s that weird, but some people might.

I love to eat a Quest bar around 4pm for a snack, but I’m trying to eat less artificial sugar as well. It’s been the hardest thing to give up, because it yummy, transportable and keeps me full until dinner for 160 calories! Do you have any afternoon snack suggestions to try?

    Thanks!!

I don’t necessarily have any weird things I’ve eaten in the car, although they have mainly been challenging to eat. I always choose things that are difficult to chow down on, which in turn leaves the car a hot mess. Still no kabocha squash around here…I’m jealous. 😉

I used to do tons of workout sandwiches and even triple deckers when I was a professional ballet dancer. Sometimes it was basically morning to night with breaks thrown in (you know for condiments and adding a bread layer…hee, hee)

As for car eats….where do start? My big revelation that I was taking it too far is when my sister found empty cans of peas and veggies as well as fruit flies in my car one year. She staged an intervention….thus began my covering up the fact that I basically “lived” out of my car….naps, meals, phone chats, scheduling, reading etc. My little escape den (:

Agreed, I need a little detox. Nothing crazy, but I realized it’s creeping in a bit more than it should!
