Repeater Move, Recent Discoveries and a New Unsweetened Frosting Type Thing


Best title ever, I know.


Before I get to the frosting, some business to chat about first.

Taught some classes yesterday after my morning run.

Midday spin and then HIIT and a step class at night. I was toast afterwards.

Yep, those two songs are happening pretty much every class as of late. Hopefully people don’t get sick of them anytime soon.



I didn’t set my alarm this morning so things went down a little like they did the other day. I took my time getting out of bed and got on the treadmill for 5 slow, easy miles.

I went at 1.0 incline and about a 9 minute mile pace. I just wasn’t feeling it so I didn’t push.

I taught a short BOSU class a little later today too.

A move we do a lot at the end of my HIIT classes and sometimes on the BOSU is this alternating back/side knee repeater. Start with one foot on the BOSU (or the ground), bring knee up, tap foot to floor on the side, bring knee up, tap foot to floor behind. Repeat for a minute or so and then do it on the other leg.

The wave is optional of course, but makes it that much more fun. Ha. This repeater transitions really well into some one-legged squats. Gotta love those.


Some random recent discoveries over the past two days.

I work better during my afternoon office hours if I make myself actually work IN the office (and with coffee and kabocha).

I’m usually at the kitchen table with a mess of stuff around me and can’t think straight. It helped to be in a quiet place. I should really do that more often.


The boys and I had a little time to pass this afternoon while we were waiting for Grandma to get home from work. (Tuesdays are our days to visit her and for the boys to hang out at her house for a bit.)

We decided a coffee stop was in order. Instead of Starbucks we went for a little Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for a change. I can’t remember the last time I went there.

Um, did you know they have a 32 ounce size?

They also have really cool crushed ice and purple straws. It was a darn good call going there.

It’s always a darn good call having a little coffee date with these guys actually. In case you’re wondering, they got warm plain soy milk. They thought they were pretty cool.


Okay, so the unsweetened frosting type thing. I’ve been making this almost daily. I’m a frosting girl. I love frosting. I always want the piece of cake with the most frosting and in my opinion frosting goes well with anything- graham crackers, animal crackers, pretzels, fruit, etc.

Sometimes you just need some store bought frosting, but most of the time I try to not have it in the house and come up with healthier versions or alternatives.

A year ago I was making these frozen frosting combinations all the time. I loved them, but since limiting artificial sweeteners they haven’t really been happening.

So, I came up with this gem.


I love it because it makes a big serving and it’s just sweet enough that it doesn’t need any other sweeteners or anything. You can add them if you want, but I like it just the way it is. You can use it as a dip or a frosting or just double the recipe and eat it with a spoon like oatmeal. There are so many options.

This is 21 Day Sugar Detox friendly and paleo if you’re into that kind of thing. If your not, well, then it’s still a great healthy alternative to frosting that you or the kiddos might like.

Yep. It’s that easy and that good.

Plus there are so many different things you can do with it.

I like it on apple slices,


on a ginormous no grain plantain cupcake with some SunButter and buckwheat honey,


or just as a little dip for some sweetener free roasted kabocha.


The options are endless.



Mmmm hmm…..

    Favorite frosting flavor would have to be cookies n’ creme. We had it at our wedding and it was so delicious!

    Crushed ice always wins in my book!

    Mmm I will have to try that frosting! Since cutting the artificial sweetener crap I have been doing lots of experimenting! ALSO um I love the crushed ice at Coffee Bean! My favorite coffee however is from a small coffee shop here in Boulder. Last thing: I have a AWESOME bosu move for you I did today. I will have to look and see if I can find it online and send to you, if not i’ll somehow get to you asap haha it was that good!

    So funny – I’m always the one that asks for the extra frosting at any function with a cut cake (only the butter cream kind though – not that whipped stuff). Actually I will open a tub of frosting, put in some sprinkles and have several spoonfuls – classy!!

    I love funfetti frosting, and really all frosting. In high school cross country a tub of frosting was always a staple for our away meets. Very healthy.

    Love the look of those Mizunos. I wish they would’ve worked for me, but after the Elixirs, they just didn’t feel the same. So cute though!

    Philz Coffee (in NorCal/Bay Area) is the best coffee shop! Their coffee is simply amazing.

    Anyone remember Dunkaroos? They were these funky tasting graham crackers with frosting packaged together that I ate as a kid. I think that might have ruined frosting dunking for me. Haha. Crushed ice all the way. Everyone in my tiny town debates where the best crushed ice can be found. My favorite coffee shop is a local spot that has almond milk! Love it. I try to limit soy and dairy. They are the best and have the coolest atmosphere! You just hang out and play board games and listen to live music.

    Fun bosu move! I really should incorporate the bosu in my classes more. Frosting flavors? There isn’t a bad one in my book! 🙂 Just give me the corner piece with the most frosting. Better yet, I’ll just scrape all the leftover frosting from what others left on the tray!!

    Favorite frosting flavor (say THAT five times fast!!) is anything buttercream! I love it on cake, brownies, ice cream, graham crackers, cookies….they are all basically frosting delivery vehicles. 🙂

    Crushed ice….definitely! There’s something about it that just seems so….cool! (ha!)

    I say crushed ice, Peets for me & that frosting in coffee flavor would be nice! 😉
