Just Another Reason, Ratio Bar Review and a Little Help Needed

Happy Saturday!

Oh my gosh, not sure about how the weather is where you are, but it’s totally feeling like spring over here. I feel bad being excited about it since I know there are so many dealing with unfortunate weather this year, but spring is in the air.

Yesterday was a full rest day. I haven’t been running much since the marathon last weekend, but I didn’t really get a chance to slow down with teaching my classes and everything so yesterday was a rest day.

It was also a special day and all and we had some things to do.

Not on the list, but we also stole some toilet paper from Papap and Grandma since we were down to our last roll in the house. Just another reason to love that they live only a mile away from us.

Our planned activities included a trip to La Jolla.

Good times.

We’ve actually had a couple low key birthday celebrations at home also.

2014-03-13 20.30.04

Another reason to order take out sushi is so you can have a cold beverage and eat sushi on the couch.

2014-03-13 20.45.02

It was actually the first time we’ve ever done that, but it was awesome.

Our second night of birthday celebrating didn’t turn out so well.

I like to blame Kitty for a lot of things, but this time it really was his fault.

He not only knocked over the wine glass, but somehow managed to leave a red wine trail all over the house. Yeah, good times.

Andrew and Kitty do not get along, and well, this was just another reason why they are not friends.

I got a beautiful shipment of colorful produce from Frieda’s the other day.

I’m super excited about the cauliflower. I have to confess though, I think those are potatoes, but I’m not 100% certain. Can anyone help me out? I’ve never seen them like that before, but I need to know.

Mmmm…. can’t wait to roast those up and I might try to make some cauliflower tortillas. I saw a recipe somewhere. We’ll see if I can find it. Yes, one more reason to experiment. Ha.

We got some Ratio Bars sent to us to review and sample recently also.

I’m pretty picky about the bars I like and will eat, but the fact that these are gluten free, non-GMO, don’t have soy protein and are made with hormone free whey protein made we want to see what they’re all about.

They come in two sizes and the whole “ratio” thing is the protein to carbs ratio in the specific bar. (It took me a little bit to figure that out, but it clearly says it on the package. Ha.)

I was quick to try out the Cake Batter flavor.

(You can get the full nutritional information on their website here.)

It was okay. Not exactly the cake batter taste I thought it would be, but it wasn’t bad and it had a lot of protein packed in one little bar.

I did really like the Peanut Butter Cup one though.

Yeah, I had some helpers with the taste testing

and the four of us fought over that one a bit. It was like dessert. Yum.

I have a couple other flavors to try out, but I’m saving them since I really don’t do bars on a daily basis.

While I’m talking food though I might as well show you my breakfast.

A chicken apple sausage egg white scramble with spinach and a grain free apple muffin made flatbread style in the microwave just because.

I forgot how good and easy this is.

I also forgot my coffee on the counter and now it’s cold. Beavis. That happens at least once a day over here.

But hey, just one more reason to be thankful we now have a new working microwave WITH a handle.

I know, right? Moving on up.

Okay, I’m off for a little run. That’s the thing about taking easy weeks and making sure you get rest days, then you get that much more excited to go for a run and get back into training. I love that.

I also love this Mizuno video. Seriously, it just doesn’t get old. Just another reason to get out there and run (or walk, or whatever). It can transform you.

Just do it!

I’ll leave you with this reading from the boys’ devotional last night.

The boys never want to wash their hair. We do, but there’s always a reason why they don’t want soap in their hair every night.

But….. what I really like is how it says to take care of your body and eat food that is good for you because this is the body God gave you. He wants you to take good care of it. Sometimes I forget to think of it that way. I feel like if I make bad decisions about what I do or what I put in my body, it only affects me, but truth is, it doesn’t. Our bodies and the things that our bodies can do are gifts, so we better treat them that way. It’s our job to take good care of them.

Just my deep thought for the day.

Have a great rest of your weekend!

If you could so kindly help me out though…..

Are these potatoes from my Frieda’s shipment? Someone please help me. Maybe they’re a special kind or something?

Please tell me I’m not the only one who either has to steal toilet paper from her parents and/or has to warm up the same coffee at least twice every day.

Just curious- do you prefer to eat sushi at home or at a restaurant?

  3. 3

Those are potatoes! They sent me the same ones. They are a really dark purple/blueish inside!

  4. 4

I have no idea what those are. My guesses would be potato, rutabaga, turnip or jicima. clearly i’m not very helpful. Poor Kitty, I know you were probably not happy about the wine tracked through the house but at lease kitty was okay and wasn’t hurt on broken glass or anything.

Hmm, those don’t look like potatoes. I could be wrong though.

That cat cracks me up. Poor kitty, did he roll in the spilled wine?! He always makes my day…even if he was being bad….:-)

Those are Okinawan Sweet Potatoes!!!!! THE absolute bestest sweet potatoes in the world!! Can you tell how much i love them? They look similar to the purple sweet potatoes you like to eat but based on my experience, they taste sweeter. Inside they are generally light purple to pure dark blue-purple– the yummy antioxidants!

i bet ya they are purple on the inside! :) You will love those sweet potatoes!!

I don’t drink coffee but Chris does and he is constantly leaving a cup sitting somewhere and then reheating it later. Glad you have a new microwave with a handle – much easier to operate!

Here in my hometown, it snowed last night. It was a pretty sparkly fluffy snow, but really, getting tired of cold. It’s 25 out at 7:30 am. Ick.
I just started a couch to 5k get started running program, so I gotta face the cold, hopefully for one of the last times this year :-)

Totally have to warm up my coffee at least 2 times every day! I haven’t had sushi in a long time, but I enjoy eating it out, but if someone brought some over I would be 100% okay with eating it on the couch. ;)
