The Post-It, Apple Cider Vinegar Benefits and Supplement Chat

I posted this picture of my new recovery drink on instagram and got a lot of questions about why I put apple cider vinegar in it.

First of all, I don’t have this recovery drink every day. I do like to have it on days with tough workouts or long runs or when I have to teach later on in the day after I run in the morning. It all depends. I do really like it though.

I don’t remember if I ever wrote about the benefits of apple cider vinegar or why I like to add it to my drinks daily, so here are just a few reasons why.

It has been used for centuries as a health remedy and cleansing agent. Some of the benefits of apple cider vinegar are that it helps with digestion, supports a healthy immune system, helps control blood glucose and insulin levels. There are a few other claims out there of different ailments, etc. that apple cider vinegar helps with also.

I like adding it to drinks and drizzling it over popcorn and making salad dressings with it like these ones.

While I’m on the topic, I guess I’ll just show you the other supplements I take too.

I’ve always taken vitamins, but I’ve been especially diligent about it since my injury. Also with the amount of training and exercise I do I think it’s important. Again, these are just the supplements that are working for me. I’ve been taking the same ones for quite some time now.

I take the GNC Women’s Ultra Mega Active and Triple Strength Fish Oil with Joint Support.

I started taking this Dona Glucosamine after my prolotherapy doctor who treated me for my hip dysplasia recommended it.

He pretty much miraculously cured me, so I do what he says. Speaking of, I did recommend him to my friend Kendyl who had a similar hip issue. After the same number of treatments she just got cleared to start running again after months of not running. I’m so happy for her. Yes, the treatment is expensive and there aren’t that many doctors who do it, but it changed my life.

 

The last thing I take daily are these CocoaVia supplements.

I used to use the flavored packets and added them to different drinks and such (like this summer citrus tea which also has apple cider vinegar in it). I just take the capsules now though.

Cocoa flavanols have a lot of benefits that promote healthy aging and cardiovascular health. I’m a big fan. Here is a graphic directly from the CocoaVia website.

    I put vinegar on my salads every day, my favorite is white balsamic.
    I don’t take any vitamins or supplements, but I use the vega recovery accelerator and rice protein most days. Do you know any thing about BCCA aminos? Have you ever used them? I tried a couple BCCA powders, but I don’t know if they are worth buying or not?

    I love ACV for digestion!!! I take it before meals. Must look into that Vega recovery!!

    OMG, I used to put a splash of ACV in my smoothies (heard it from blogger fitnessmeetsfrosting). Love how the taste was undetectable! Not sure how much of the benefits I saw, but it didn’t seem to hurt to add it.

    I have never thought about putting ACV in my smoothies! I used to take shots of it but couldn’t take it anymore, this is a great idea. Especially if you really can’t taste it!

    I do my ACV religiously in my morning cocktail with aminos, and again at night with Natural Calm. It makes such a big difference! Love the idea to put it in a smoothie. Totally trying that. Thanks!

    I used to take it daily in hot water with raw honey. I was doing it for seasonal allergies and it seemed to aid digestion and bloating. It didn’t seem to help the allergies much, though. I need to start taking it again! Just started slacking 🙂

    I LOVE apple cider vinegar. I feel the digestion benefits, and I legitimately really enjoy the acidic, tangy taste. I put it in my salad dressings, and sometimes I just drink a shot of it straight (or mixed with some fizzy water and a splash of maple syrup if I want to feel all fancy). I recently got turned on to filipino food, they make a dish called chicken adobo that is cooked in TONS of vinegar–heaven in a pot.

    I got broken up with by text message in college. That one stung.

    I am really glad the prolo was such a success for you and your friend. I wish it had been an option for me years ago…well, I wish I’d had a solid diagnosis years ago! lol By the time i knew what was up with my hip it was too far gone. People don’t really seem to understand what hip dysplasia is and how it is different from an injury and how you can have it and totally not know for years and years and years. Do keep your hips and core strong! Keep up with the joint supplements! I wish you many years of NO PAIN!!!!

    I’ve tried ACV in hot water as a way to boost immunity and help digestive problems but it was back before I was eating paleo and didn’t notice any positive effects since my system was a mess anyway. Wonder if I’d notice it now?

    I drink a tablespoon or so of ACV in my first glass of water when I wake up every day. I think I used to notice the benefits but now I am just so used to drinking it that I don’t think much about why I am doing so lol. As for the post -it, I have encountered the modern day form of the break up via text message. Yeah, not fun. As soon as it happened to me, I thought of Carrie and Berger and the post-it.

    I started taking ACV to help my immune system and digestion. I have continued to drink it in my smoothies through this pregnancy and I feel great. 12 more weeks to go.

    Thanks for the information, I am going to give the ACV a shot. Speaking of your hip injury…..I am curious what symptoms you had/have and the type of Dr you went to see. I have had sciatic nerve issues for years, surgery, etc to no relief. I wonder if it is more hip related since my hip bothers me all the time. What type of doc do you see for hips? Thanks Kristen!

    I love that SATC episode! My new favorite salad dressing is made mostly with apple cider vinegar. I have used it before just for overall health, I need to start doing that again.

    ACV 1 TBSP every morning in warm water w cherry stevia. I do it for digestion. Does it work? Dont know. But I do it:)
    I take chewable probiotics, chewable vit c, chewable adult vitamin w iron and a raw B complex
    At night, I take magnesium taurate for digestion and relaxation

    I had a friend quit her job as an Administrative Asst. via Post-It Note before several years ago. We had this super anal and micro managing supervisor that use to time everything she did, including restroom breaks. One particular day she went to the restroom and as soon as she went the supervisor placed a Post-It note on her computer monitor asking “Where are you?”…when she returned she was so fed up that she packed all her belongings and replaced his Post-it note with one of her own that read “Where am I?” then she walked out and never returned! LOLOLOL – I still tease her about it to this day.

    I LOVE ACV! I recently read the Bragg e-book on ACV and have been drinking a mixed drink every night or morning. I drink 2tbsp ACV, diluted with 12oz. (or more) warm water and 1tbsp raw honey. It smells a little funky, but tastes amazing! Unfortunately, I still suffer from adult acne, and drinking this once every day has cleared my skin 100% (which is claims to do). I am an addict now 🙂

    I have read over & over about the apple cider vinegar but never taken it.. 🙂

    I am curious about your joint support – Dona – will be researching that more!

    I used to take Cocoa Via but no money for anything extra right now. I would take the capsules too – the packets have an ingredient in them that I am not thrilled about.. 🙂

    Did your doctor recommend that specific brand of glucosamine? I feel like I’m always getting injured and im really tired of it.

      Yes- he specifically recommended that brand that is not easy to find so I have to order it from Amazon. 🙂

    ACV is the bomb!!! One thing I have recently discovered is that it is an AMAZING deodorant!! I’ve been trying to stay away from antiperspirant and using more natural deodorants and nothing seems to really work or I react strange. I read about ACV lowering the pH and helping with BO and by golly – IT WORKS! I’ve been using it now for two weeks and IT IS AMAZING. I literally can go all day, workout and when I come home, its just a typical smell from all that and ONLY if you stuck your nose in my pit. Otherwise, you wouldn’t smell me at all! I’m sold! TMI on my BO – but had to share!

      A cotton ball will work. I just use a paper towel and less is more. Paper towel over the top, flip over once, wipe. The vinegar smell stays for maybe an hour but you are probably the only one that can actually smell it.
