Thursday Confessions, Kitty’s Challenge Update and Purina ONE For You

This morning’s run was another early one and was a little tough to get going, but it felt so good to be done.

2014-05-19 07.57.09

A little over 11 miles. A 20 minute warm up with 10 minute intervals ran at AT pace (6:40). I did 3 of them and then another shorter one for about 8 minutes and slow jogged in between the intervals for 3 minutes.

Then ran for a little bit as a cool down.

2014-05-22 07.25.55

Right when this little man came in and asked if I was done, whelp, I was (hence the random 11.34 miles).

2014-05-22 07.26.47

We’ve got some big plans today so it was darn fabulous to have that run done. And I have to say, the speed work wasn’t as bad as I thought. Sure I stepped off the treadmill a few too many times, but maybe the more you do it the easier it gets.

Last night the boys, Turk and I went for a walk with our Mizuno Baton.

2014-05-21 19.06.142014-05-21 19.11.00

We earned about $.70 or so. Not much, but every little bit counts and it’s fun getting the family involved. We’re up to $4.00 now. If only treadmill miles counted. Ha.

I got some questions about the campaign. Once you start you have a week to log your miles. I’m not sure how long the campaign will last.

Our post walk dinner looked a little something like this.

I discovered you can drizzle a little olive oil on those Costco raviolis, sprinkle some parmesan cheese on them and then bake them.

Today’s breakfast was delicious.

I used to have something similar all the time. Remember the ultimate breakfast salad?

Anyhoo, I made an egg white cinnamon and apple scramble and put it on a boatload of organic spinach. I cooked the apple slices first in coconut oil before adding the egg whites. Then I drizzled some molasses on there and added some homemade blueberry chia jam.

My new thing is NuttZo and cinnamon whole grain sandwich and a Flatout wrap with cinnamon and coconut butter. I use the cool sandwich maker to make them warm and toasty.

Random confession time:

We’re running dangerously low in the house with toilet paper and hand soap. Something needs to be done pronto.

Sometimes I leave clean clothes in the dryer or the laundry basket for more than 2 days before I actually put them away.

The whole Post-It thing yesterday made me laugh and although I can’t specifically remember any Post-It situations, I was once let go from a job by email. Nice.

The only time I usually use our house phone is to call my cell phone because I can’t find it.

I just threw out a kabocha squash. I’m in shock. It had been sitting in the pantry too long and got a little weird looking. I haven’t had sweetener free roasted kabocha forever. I might need to get a fix sometime soon.

I just registered for two marathons. This summer is going to be awesome! Race-cation time friends! Can’t wait.

Kitty and Nala update time.

If you remember, four weeks ago Kitty and Nala started a little challenge of their own. They’ve been on the Purina ONE Smart Change 28 Day Challenge.

They started on the Purina Indoor Advantage mix, but we switched over to the Salmon and Tuna Flavor once they polished off the first bag.

IMG_3498IMG_3499

I have to say, I have noticed a difference since they’ve been on this food. Physically both of their coats look shinier and healthier. Yes, even the little peach fuzz/random hair Kitty has.

IMG_3501

Also, and this might be too much info for you, but Kitty usually has some pretty bad breath, but with with food it’s definitely improved.

Temperament, well, Nala only comes out when the house is quiet and/or everyone is sleeping and Kitty is generally kind of a snob, but I do think they’ve both been a little more energetic and youthful lately. Kitty has even taken up more huggling and furniture scratching. We’re so lucky.

He’s not a morning cat and was not a fan of the camera this morning. He did perk up as soon as I filled his bowl with food though. Ha.

I think he’s still feeling bad for the little incident that happened last night.

IMG_3495

Yeah. Someone’s demonstration of how to properly carry Kitty didn’t go so well. Just a little scratch.

This was my first feline challenge, but if you’ve got cats I would say heck, join the Purina ONE Smart Change 28 Day Challenge. You can join here.

Now that we’re on the good food (instead of the cheap stuff I used to buy), we’re not going back.

So, I have a little something for you cat loving friends out there. For participating in this challenge I received some coupons from Purina ONE. In addition to the ones I received, I have a few extras to pass along.

IMG_3500

I have three to give away. Each one is for a package of Purina ONE® SMARTBLEND® cat food (up to $15.99 value).

Pretty cool.

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment here.

Tell me a random confession or something fun about your cat or cats (if you have any).

Giveaway will be open until 11:59 pm PST Sunday, May 25th. The three randomly chosen winners will be announced Monday on the blog. Open to US residents only.

I’m glad your cats are doing well on the new food. I’ve been changing it up and buying Blue Buffalo, instead of Nutro for my dogs and they seem to be doing well. I’d like to feed my dogs mostly raw food and I definitely would if I just had one dog, but its harder with three.

  3. 3

I have a kitten who would love to try some of that food 🙂 He loves just about everything, and is half dog I swear with the amount of begging he does for our food.

Cat confession? I have 4 cats. 2 I rescued from a car. 1 I adopted & the last one, the little terrorist that is about 6 months old, my husband brought in the house.

I also feed 4-6 strays in my neighborhood. I’ve gotten 2 of them fixed, I need to work on getting the rest fixed. But it’s hard when I’m the only one that gives a damn.

I feel the kitty scratching pain!

Yes! I have two cats who could totally benefit from the change. Rascal and Snowball. Although they are getting up there in age, they both still chase their tail (have yet to catch the dern thing), and could use upgrade in in cat food I am sure!
Flat Kitty travelled with me to Europe last summer-I need to send you pics of Kitty’s adventure, awesome stuff.

We have two precious kitties who would love some new food! 🙂

Random cat fact–our cat for into a fight several years back with another cat. She now has two holes in her ears (one in each ear) that look like she had her ears pierced.

So what two marathons did you sign up for??

My cats are so bi-polar. The one will be purring/rubbing on you then full on attack you. The other one only comes out when it’s just me and my BF. She hates all company!

My cat that I have now is mute! He opens his mouth to meow and nothing comes out! It’s crazy!

One of my cats has agenesis of the upper eyelids. In short, his inner eyelids never properly developed and he’s missing half on one and 1/3 on the other. The lack of inner eyelids mean the eyelashes (for lack of a better term) rest on the cornea. He’s also slightly cross-eyed, but sees just fine. I used to feel sorry for him, but he doesn’t know any differently 🙂 He sure has no trouble finding the food bowl (17 lbs)!

thanks for sharing about the Mizuno Baton. I had not heard about that but have now uploaded the app to my phone to start to use. Thanks for the inspiration!

I think my cat is the cutest kitty ever- but don’t we all? I clipped her nails and brushed her, so she was a little grumpy. Maybe free cat food will cheer her up. I also think it would be hilarious if someone entered the contest that didn’t have a cat. LOL.

    Laura says:

I have two cats. The female steals socks, gloves, underwear and brings them into the living room. I never know what I’m going to wake up to. She can open drawers and even drags pillows and stuffed animals around. When she’s feeling generous, she’ll bring the dog one of his toys and leave it in front of his bed. Weird.

    Melissa S. says:

Mabel, my 16 year old princess, used to drink out of the toilet like a dog! Now, well, she’s old, but still runs around like a kitten but definitely sleeps more than your average cat. She still enjoys eating melon, yogurt and pudding. And still plays with this red rabbits foot that I bought for her when she was a kitten. I find it all over the house!

I do notice a difference if I switch her food. I tend to stick with Purina or Meow Mix.

I’m so blessed to have a “grand kitty” – no grandchildren but a grand kitty. She comes to Nana’s house everyday while her momma works and I spoil her rotten.

Cat Confession — I have two, one of which has now decided that her ideal time for lovin is an hour before my alarm goes off. She hops up onto the pillow next to my head and smacks me in the face until I turn over so she can repeadedly head butt me and smoosh her face against mine.

  20. 20

My cat ate playdoh that my kids left on the floor once. He got so sick and it created a blockage and had to be surgically removed! He is fine now, but I will never forget the most expensive play doh ever. Needless to say that was the last time it was allowed in the house!

  21. 21

No need to enter me – no animals. BUT I love your posts – so fun & funny!!!! On the confessions – I get it… things don’t get done & I don’t even have kids & animals!!! 🙂

    Lindsay says:

Gah will this food make my cat normal? He’s so weird! Don’t get me wrong, I love him like he came out of my own womb, but he’s weird. For example, he will only drink water out of a CUP in the BATHTUB. What?!? And every night he sleeps right on my face (he’s 13 lbs). If I’m sleeping too late for him, though, he’ll jump up on my headboard, dive bomb onto my chest (see aforementioned 13lbs) and run off like I’m just going to think I woke up naturally if he’s out of sight. But, alas, he knows he has me wrapped around his little paw!

Ha, ha….I have a kabocha squash confession too. After hoarding way too many (my housemate was shocked when she found them) I sorted through them recently and found two completely rotted to the point that I had to scrape them off the shelf and there were seeds and kabocha skin still stuck! Depressing but I still have a bunch that survived…woot, woot!

    Lynn Pronger says:

I have an orange cat Stella that also spends most of her time ” hiding”. The other 3 make up for it tho. I had a fellow ( not a cat liker) tell me the number one reason seniors fall is tripping over a cat. I do a cat “dance” constantly as they are always right in front of me trying to trip me up.

My housemates in college used to have a cat that was totally crazed (maybe because she had to deal with the five of us in a 2 bedroom apt!

She used to race across the apt. and leap onto the screen door and then just hang there…probably trying to escape. This all ended when she reared back, leapt and realized too late that the glass door was closed. She became even more deranged but we loved her to pieces (:
